This is such a great song. I was 11 when this came out, and I remember making my parents BLAST this on the radio whenever it came on. The bridge she sings with Leesa Richards (starts at 2:10) was kind of a mind-blowing musical moment for me when I was a kid, the whole major/minor harmony key changes and all of that, plus the slide guitar, killer bass hook, great drumming...the whole thing still hits hard even in 2023. A timeless song from a great artist.

Where have all the great black pop artists gone today? There were so many incredibly talented black artists that contributed to pop music culture in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Pop music is dominated today by hip hop and a few pop artists. I feel strongly that pop music from the 60's through the 90's brought us together of all ages and races and created a common connection. I see this video and think, is the lack of pop music part of the reason we are so divided today?

I have always had MAD RESPECT for any black FEMALE music artists like this who think OUTSIDE the box and SHOW the black community we CAN do MORE than just the typical R & B and rap!
The sad thing....these record companies act like they DON'T know what genre to put us in AND the promotion for artists like your Dionnes', your Corinne R. Baileys', your Ledisis', your Andra Days, etc... are SEVERELY lacking and if you think about it, doesn't make sense!
The interest IS there....the support is NOT! We need to somehow start bombarding these companies with comments like ''hey, how come this person isn't promoted on THIS radio station?''
