I recently replayed far cry 3 and what really speaks volumes about how good Vaas is as a villain is the fact that I'm always surprised by how little he is in the game, he's so impactful that i seem to remember him being everywhere all the time...
@@DaveMc1996 That's the point of Joseph. If you play Far Cry New Dawn, he realizes this himself after Farcry 5, has this huge epiphany, casting himself out of New Eden (sorry, spoiler) and then when he comes back, he becomes your ally and helps you defeat the antagonist of that game.
I believe the developers were surprised and struck by Michael Mando's Vaas. They kinda wanted to make Hoyt Volker a worse guy later on. By concept he is, but not by acting.

Mark Hamil definitely shares the number 2 spot with Nicholson in best joker portrayals. And only because of my huge respect for Nicholson's performance because Hamil pretty much set the standard for every portrayal of the joker.

I’d say Ted Faro from Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West should be on this list. He lead the entire world and all life to being wiped out, destroyed all human knowledge that was to help the next generation to grow and flourish then tried to become immortal to be the god of those people a thousand years later.
farcry 3 and 4 were some fantastic rpgs, just enough in the world to make it fun to explore while also making it feel meaningful. I actually enjoyed Pagan Min more than I enjoyed Vaas but i think thats because he had more screentime and his story came full circle with the decisions the player makes. Great story, great gameplay, rewarding, fun, and compelling.
Grey Digital Target has a pretty boy but in some war that humans made technically. It's verry hard set in War and suffering for no reason. Imagine making true AI and then it misunderstands something or becomes corrupted. It plays at War like a kid with plastic soldiers. The Tan and Green ones. Makes people become soldiers just to make them citizens of this elusive city the computer "invented," meaning we burned it long ago and forgot. The remains of this elusive city the computer talks about in the anime does not exist and is ruins now. Sex and War. (Early 90's era late 80's) Mad Bull 34 and a view of corruption of police versus The System itself. Titties and the deaths of street punks in sprays of blood (90's era) then what we got now (Heard good things but I do not trust Netflix) Cyberpunk 2077 anime. Black Butler Season 1 and 2, Book of Murder, Book of Circus. (2000's era and first iteration of the Xbox 360 anime.) You'll have you mind blown what got passed the censors of the early years of anime and TV. It was the 80's after all. MTV was the thing and Coke was King. (Not the soda specifically but the Coke Kids discontinued made Cocaine soda and then the actual drug too.) It WAS the 80's after all. Genocyber, MD Geist, Akira, Knights of Ramune, Elven Lied, Angel Cop (SICK ass music too) I think you get the point.
People say The Joker lives in Batman's head because of the magic(?) blood transfusion. I just figured Bruce knew the Joker so well that he'd know what he'd say and do in certain situations. And I think that makes it all the more effed up.
That mid-game twist had me wondering if I had done something wrong at the time... like the bad guy had literally just smashed up the world.... it was mind blowing at the time.
Wilhelm "Deathshead" Strasse from Wolfenstein The New Order. His presence can be felt everywhere in the game. He also does some horrendous stuff in the game.
I've looked through the timestamps and I don't need to know more about the Joker from the Arkham series. What he did to Jason Todd for example is more than despicable. And he keeps doing these terrible things like it's nothing. Never wanted to kill someone more even though I know I shouldn't. Props to Batman for being able to withstand that evil.
In a sort of weird twisted way, I feel like Batman can’t let the Joker go. Like, well they are “DeStinEd tO dO tHis fOrevEr” I feel like Batman kind of likes the thrill of the chase with Joker. Maybe not specifically in The Arkham games though.
💯% love the Luca Blight choice, brought back so much hate I had for the guy. Well established at the beginning and end though I wish I saw a bit more of him in between.
it took us 3 whole battles back to back just to corner and finally killed him and he's not even a final boss with multiple forms, just a human but wow, that whole sequence was so satisfying
I was busy with the game when this video came out and then I saw that judgment was in it so then I immediately played the game (while taking my time, that is really important with these games) and now I’m in the credits watching this
Personally I would've put Luca at No.2. The guy kills his own allies to kick off a war, kills his own father because he hates him, sacrifices hundreds, if not thousands to activate a True Rune and is such a beast in battle that it takes getting peppered with arrows, fighting off eighteen heroes, getting hit with more arrows before finally getting into a one on one with the MC to be stopped. And even then he shows no remorse, reveling in the atrocities he's committed.
Pretty good list, ma peche ;) By the way it's General Leo that Kefka murders. Cid can potentially die too though if you don't save him as Celes ^^; I feel like Ardyn also deserves at least an honorable mention for the insane lengths he goes to for revenge.

We might need some top 10 most heroic characters that did some most dangerous heroic moment or even sacrificed themselves into saving the world or any important situation. Another worthy mention, I think, would be Algus from Final Fantasy Tactics. He believes the noble class to be above the rest and he's just an all around jerk. And a murderer...
Another villain to mention here is Dr. Weil in Megaman Zero 3 and 4. Destroyed 90% of the Reploid population and 60% of the human population, corrupted the Mother ELF, made Omega what he is... All before his first appearance. Then he takes over Neo Arcadia, branding all dissenters as Maverick regardless of whether theu are human or Reploid... Oh, and tries to wipe out the last pocket of resistance with an orbital laser, and when he's thwarted tries to colony drop the device onto it as a last act of hate and spite.
2 other villains I would add to this list: Zoran Lazarevic from Uncharted 2 and Raphael Drake from 007 Nightfire. We hear a lot through the game about the various war crimes and atrocities Lazarevic committed and he even routinely murders his own soldiers just to further his ambition. Raphael Drake (no relation to Nathan Drake), tried to nuke the entire world from space.
Go play them again as an adult, you'll come away with a different opinion. The character momo is just disgusting, all the little school child androids are disgusting. Everytime they are on screen the camera points right up their skirts. These are like 9 year old girls
That albedo reference got me personally. I was able to get the OG unedited version where you see all the violence. Seriously underrated series and character.
I'm so happy he mentioned Albedo!!!! No one ever mentions Albedo. Guy deserves an award for traumatising any little girls who were playing that game, myself strongly included. Then they had the audacity to give him that evil boss fight in the second game where you finally think you're getting the upper 'hand' and he just regenerates. Man, what a villain.
The loathsome dung eater is interesting. In Japanese mythology the soul of a person is in a small round stone that’s in the rectum. So it’s insinuated by his name that he is devouring peoples souls also.

So the Japanese thought it was an aquatic creature that was taking something out of the body. This led to the mythological Koopa, a turtle like demon that rips your soul from your body if you entered their waters. Bowser from Mario was based on this (King Koopa). So yeah, there's a lot of things revolving around this in Japanese mythology and urban legends, like ghost hands that come out of toilets and poop demons.

Awesome video. I think a video of bad guys/ antagonists that are the most likeable as apposed to the most vile would be a good watch too. I know it's not common but sometimes there's bad guys that actually had good intentions and just went about it the wrong way. What comes to mind for me would be someone like Caius Ballad from FF13-2. He's definitely a bad guy but the more I played the game the more I came to understand his motivations and even sympathize with him. By the end of the story I even found a part of myself wanting him to succeed.
You could've put Handsome Jack on here no problem. The guy tortured his own daughter, that's just scummy. Also, Joker's intro in Arkham City(12:25 for those not paying attention) is easily one of my top 10 villain intros of all time.

A villain people tend to forget which I still hold as one of the greatest game villain ever is Kane from Command and Conquer series. He has destroyed an entire planet using a deadly crystal named Tiberium that spreads rapidly across the world(if one don't count one of the endings where as he nukes the entire planet with it) Also manipulated leaders throughout our timeline like Stalin. All this....while still being a charismatic leader that his followers and even poor people actually still love and sees as a hero.
We need more villains like this as it’s missing from today. Villains are meant to go too far, makes for a better impact and impression. Handsome jack is a good example. Always taunts you through out the game and kills a loved character from the first borderlands. Handsome jack does so much more but it’s best to find that out. You hate them of course but you love how good they are as the villains to push you to kick their ass, all the better if the voice actor nails it.
Watching this video as an old gamer: I wonder if they'll remember Kefka. Falcon: We could never forget his atrocities!!! That dude also poisoned Doma, 10 seconds after being left in charge!!!

some other honorable mentions are sephiroth because of his connection to cloud making him unique and Wesker from RE because until the 6th game he is a major villian and mastermind of many events in the whole series
What? David in The Last of Us does not have a monotone voice. Even in the clips you showed his voice has inflections, as well as tempo and pitch changes.

I was hoping Luca would appear on this list. Man, I think I've never hated a game character more than him. JRPG's of that time had a thing for over the top villains.
I just realized how funny the plot of MW2 is now, in light of how poorly Russia executed a land invasion on Ukraine. They couldn't even successfully invade their much smaller neighbor. Imagine them ACTUALLY trying to invade the US the way it's portrayed in MW2.
I'm surprised there was no bioshock ending in this. I mean he kills little girls to increase their powers... I'm surprised you didn't include it. Bioshock is such a great series.
One can argue that you can beat him only by speaking (speech-checking) and proving to him that his whole crusade is lost from its beginning (no spoilers) providing facts he ignored. Not sure the greatest villain can be defeated this way. Somehow, I do get and share a bit of your pick, nonetheless.
When I saw FF6 on the spoiler list, I immediately heard laughter in 16-bits.

Final fantasy 6 is one of my most favorite games. It's always nice seeing it in list's.
FF7 is more famous but FF6 is, by far, the best FF6 there is. Best story, best villian and best characters.
If you've played the two Final Fantasy 6 is definitely the better game. And that's saying something.

Oh man, Albedo was just a flashback. His character was insane. The Xenogears/Saga games were soooo damn good back in the day. Really miss those games.

@@bernardoheusi6146 This old myth started because when a dead body would be found in a river or lake and it bloated, the rectum would be puffed out like something had been pulled out of it. So the Japanese thought it was an aquatic creature that was taking something out of the body. This led to the mythological Koopa, a turtle like demon that rips your soul from your body if you entered their waters. Bowser from Mario was based on this (King Koopa). So yeah, there's a lot of things revolving around this in Japanese mythology and urban legends, like ghost hands that come out of toilets and poop demons.

Awesome video. I think a video of bad guys/ antagonists that are the most likeable as apposed to the most vile would be a good watch too. I know it's not common but sometimes there's bad guys that actually had good intentions and just went about it the wrong way. What comes to mind for me would be someone like Caius Ballad from FF13-2. He's definitely a bad guy but the more I played the game the more I came to understand his motivations and even sympathize with him. By the end of the story I even found a part of myself wanting him to succeed.

A villain people tend to forget which I still hold as one of the greatest game villain ever is Kane from Command and Conquer series. He has destroyed an entire planet using a deadly crystal named Tiberium that spreads rapidly across the world(if one don't count one of the endings where as he nukes the entire planet with it)
Also manipulated leaders throughout our timeline like Stalin.
All this....while still being a charismatic leader that his followers and even poor people actually still love and sees as a hero.

We need more villains like this as it’s missing from today. Villains are meant to go too far, makes for a better impact and impression. Handsome jack is a good example. Always taunts you through out the game and kills a loved character from the first borderlands. Handsome jack does so much more but it’s best to find that out. You hate them of course but you love how good they are as the villains to push you to kick their ass, all the better if the voice actor nails it.

I just realized how funny the plot of MW2 is now, in light of how poorly Russia executed a land invasion on Ukraine. They couldn't even successfully invade their much smaller neighbor. Imagine them ACTUALLY trying to invade the US the way it's portrayed in MW2.

The Master from Fallout 1 will always be the most gruesome to me
One can argue that you can beat him only by speaking (speech-checking) and proving to him that his whole crusade is lost from its beginning (no spoilers) providing facts he ignored. Not sure the greatest villain can be defeated this way.
