I like underload exercises better. Not as hard to recover from and if you get stronger on an underload exercise you pretty much ALWAYS get stronger on the regular lift as well...in my humble opinion.

I'm with you on this one💯💯 My preference tends to be to use as little weight as possible as long as it still allows me to progress. In my experience, it's just so much better in terms of risk mitigation for injury!

Just put pin-squats in tonight after my deadlifts. I went as low as I could without knee pain. I felt irritation but not enough to classify it as pain. I missed squatting and this video was so helpful. I’ve used pin-squats in the past but not as a way to train around injury. This was eye-opening. Thank you so much man!!

That's awesome that you were able to implement these, I'm glad it helped!! Sorry to hear about the knee pain though, that's always a difficult one.. but I'm glad to hear you're working through it and still getting work done💪

Got me with title haha. I’ve had great carryover from board presses and spotos in the past. Last time I hit a bench PR in comp I couldn’t bench full ROM for 8 weeks, and the last 4 weeks I was only benching full rom once a week. Also my 2-board, floor press, etc aren’t really much stronger than my comp bench. I think I really rely on the speed generated of the chest for normal rep work.

Hahah yes, admittedly went with a bit of a click bait title 😅 But yes I think it's a nuanced conversation for sure and you have been a great example of successfully making progress with those board presses etc. So there's a case study in and of itself in support of some of those ranges! My thoughts tend to be that lifters with longer arms may benefit more from board presses etc because of that stretch reflex that they get off of the bottom maybe?

@@RodsStrengthTraining I think that’s a likely reason why. I think if you’re already well leveraged for bench probably should just stick to full rom all the time. Generally speaking. Although the only way to know, or sort of know, if it works for you is to take an Emerging Strategies approach. Use it as an assistance movement in conjunction with comp bench and see what happens.

Exactly 💯 That's the fun of it all it seems, the best answer of if it works is to try it out haha
