@@okgo8315 You do not like the color. That is your prerogative. My reasons for liking it are many and varied, taking into consideration the aesthetic of the period, the purpose of the Pantera itself, among other things.
Hey Jack. Those are not necessarily "low compression" pistons. Your Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads have 60cc chambers. I'm actually surprised they don't have fly-cut valve reliefs in them. In any case, I had to use dished pistons (-16cc) on my 351C with the same Edelbrock heads to get the compression down to 10.5 to 1, although I stroked my engine too. Be sure your engine builder checks combustion chamber volume and piston to deck volume. Anyways, I was friends with Jim and I'm glad to see you resurrecting his Pantera - take your time and do it right! You won't be disappointed. And I can assure you, you'll fall in love with the car as soon as you start driving it! Cheers!
These are the videos I love to watch Jack. Much prefer them to the road tests you do on other cars. I really love watching your skills in rebuilding the ‘unloved!!’
It's a 70's car, they didn't shy away from a bit of colour back then and so shouldn't you. It fits a contemporary spirit. Better than all those cowardly, keep the depreciation low, dark colours of today. It's better for everybody, streets look much better when all the cars have different bright colours.
As a fifty odd year old mechanic I always loved the pantera and it should be loud and brash I have built a few engines from over the water and it always amazed me such big cubic inch and little BHP but torque wins big torque moves the world ,,,,, PS love the colour screams 1970S ....
For a 70s engine you could achieve pretty reasonable power comparatively to most motors of that era, with out taking in cubic capacity, there heads are known for being able to breath pretty well, and with the right combinations you can get horsepower that is competitive by today's standards all from a naturally aspirated engine, obviously to detriment of fuel economy
TY Jack! 🙏🙏 I think Panteras look a bit more refined than Lamborghinis of the time, so they can wear bright or darker colours well. The shape of the car will never disappoint anyway! Your green looks great Jack! Looking forward to the next episode!
I think you made the right choice! DeTomaso's only look good in this color, the burgundy, and black! We don't have enough green ones so thanks for putting one back into the world!
Jack… your channel is a lot of fun to watch. Somehow you manage to consistently stay happy and positive even when faced with bad news. Well done! Love the Mean Green Pantera Machine!

Love the colour! You should call it Limey as a nod to its American past. Good luck with the engine rebuild! Check how much the equivalent parts would be for the influenzo and the Pantera will probably seem like a bargain! 😂
Hello Jack, nice to see the update of the Pantera and also glad to see that you are happy with it. Of course I will follow it to the end of the project as your videos are always interesting and fun and informative, and humorous and generally a good time.
Great colour choice! Regarding that engine, it looks like the short block is a junkyard pull. Why it has those expensive alloy heads on it is puzzling; however, the short block may have been intended as a placeholder for a serious build, or simply to deceive the buyer.
Great original, bold, attention-grabbing colour choice, love it. Bad news about the engine but fortunately parts aren't as prohibitively expensive as our Italian favourites. When I was choosing a specification for a Ford 347 stroker (Windsor) I was amazed at the amount of options available and equally surprised at the relative low prices. I've seen Panteras on the street in that color. I was driving when those cars were introduced and saw them living in the NY metropolitan area then. I think the green captures the era perfectly.

I had totally missed that you & your ol’ No27 were part of that group. I didn’t know the reasoning behind the name for your car and this channel. It all makes sense now. i remember panteras, miuras, 911's, even MG's, painted crazy colors from the factory back in the day - lime, fluorescent orange, purple, fly yellow...totally appropriate.
In the 70th a lot of Italian cars which was build for export to USA was painted with thermo laquer. I bought a Dino 308GT4 from USA from 1976 and i had to remove all pint until to bare metal. My specialist told me, its nearly impossible to avoid the spider cracks when you paint over the thermo laquer.
Sad to see the rear spoiler delete..that makes it look so damn raw and cool but when i saw you change the color to the best color.. i i'm so glad you did spoiler delete cuse it looks so much better without in that color! Really great choice of color and great video update!👍
It looks MEGA! I know the engine rebuild is pricey, but the peace of mind later will be worth it, knowing you've upgraded, strengthened, and modernized your engine. It's going to be your dream car, and something to be very proud of. ✌️
Looking forward to more episodes of you building this! I love black on a Pantera but let's judge when all the trim and wheels etc. are on the car I'm sure it will look amazing.
Your last Pantera video is what motivated me to get one after years drooling over owning one! Mine's a bit rusty on the surface and needs a new front fender, but being 25 I've got plenty of time to fix it :) Mine is originally red, though I'm leaning towards olive green or grabber blue. Exciting stuff!
Fantastic video, as always. I really enjoyed the footage you captured of all the work being done. Love the choices you've made with the car. Very interesting to hear the details of the unfortunate engine issues -- so sorry you have to deal with that. 👊
Thank you for the update. It's nice to see you getting your hands dirty again. It sounds like you're getting very wise counsel on the engine spec. I am afraid you're in for some more expense, as the suspension is unlikely to handle the HP unless you're only planning on driving in a straight line.LOL. love your channel
You have confirmed my US experience with so-called restored cars. The paint job looks OK at 100m and the engines are built using a lot of relatively cheap (at least in the US) performance parts - however the body is loaded with lots of bondo and inappropriate layers of paint and the engine's 'foundation' is in a poor state. I'm sure there are some top quality panel beaters/painters and engine builders in the US - but I suspect there are many more questionable types - which is really sad.
Jack, I really like the lime paint job, it’s of the period and perfect. I can’t remember if this was the shade I liked with the choices of green you showed in a previous video, but either way it’s green which would have been my preference too, and it works. I love your channel, a great video. Thanks for making!
I think it looks perfect in the lime green and it's a fun colour for a fun car. As others have mentioned, those colours were very popular in the early 70's, ie: cars like the Plymouth Roadrunners. Very cool and looking forward to seeing the progress and how it turns out!
Love the video. I need some love for the restoration of my 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano! Thats definitely a lot going on! Take your time and do it right! My car is a beater at best. But im going to get it as best as i can ( Afford ) Good luck and as a subscriber I'll definitely be watching the progress! Much love from St Louis MO USA!
Hi Jack. Love the colour! Get the skirts of the forged pistons Teflon coated. You won’t regret it. Otherwise, you run the risk of piston slap. Don’t ask me how I know 😢 Cheers!
Hi Jack, yep, been there done that. My Pantera engine was basically ....****. Cracks in the block everything worn out and only 18k on the clock. The thin walls were so inconsistent that when the local engineers welded them up more cracks and holes appeared. Sadly, in the end, due to finances, I gave up and sold it for £6k to a dealer from the UK De Tomaso club. That was early 2000's mind you. Wish I'd kept it now as the prices are way up high. Love the lime colour. Perfect for the madness that is De Tomaso.
It really doesn't matter what I, or anyone else thinks, it is after all Your car. The question is, Do You Like It? Personally I think it looks Fantastic, and paired with the original wheels it will look absolutely Stunning!!! Now, that engine. What a disappointment that the bottom of the engine and the pistons had not been touched before you acquired the car. It sounds to me like you are on the right track for the rebuild just so long as there is enough meat there for you to use when the over boring happens. Worst case you may have to have the liners ground down to block bare metal and have new cylinder walls put in (a procedure I have only seen once on an old Stingray Corvette and it did wonders for the car) Again I'm not a mechanic, I just grew up twisting spanners (we call them wrenches) here in the middle of nowhere in Canada. Good luck, Jack and despite surviving on a fixed income, disability fund, I will try and budget my next month's income to include joining your channel, yours will be the first!! I think it's the least I can do for the entertainment and educational value you provide us!! Cheers Jack, all will be well with the Pantera, no matter what has to be done to get her there!! I just can't wait to hear you snickt through those gears after she's all done and on the road, and the amazing sound of a Ford powertrain built for racing, but put in a road car!!! - Dave
I remember watching a 1990 Clint Eastwood film with Charlie Sheen called the Rookie. The plot revolved around a violent car-ringing crew. One of them had a Jalpa in Lime Green and Clint Eastwood opined that anyone with such bad taste as to paint a car that colour "ought to have his ass removed!" I think he had a point even if the colour were a Lambo stock colour.
The colour looks brilliant, once it gets some bumpers and window trim etc on it, it will balance out nicely. Engine rebuild can add up, but you seem to be doing it properly, however imagine the costs if it was a 70s Ferrari or Lamborghini!!
It’s looking awesome Jack. Back in the day one of my pals had his Pantera in that very colour. Obviously disappointing about the engine but in the long run better to get it done now than later. And you know if you do it properly you will definitely get your money back if you sell it.
The lime looks fantastic, absolutely the right choice for such a beautiful car, one of my teenage and still my dreams! I wish I could help you with the engine work but funds deny me. Very best wishes from Ellan Vannin/Isle of Man.
I think the colour is awesome. Sorry to hear about the engine woes. Really not ideal but at least once it's rebuilt you will know for sure that the engine is in top working order.
No Jack you didn't go mad, I had a strong feeling that you would choose this colour. It was my second choice but as I said before it is your car and of course if you ask a committee you will get any number of opinions! It is a shame about the engine but that is not something you can skimp on so a top job is required. It is fortunate that you found the problems now though I suspect that you being quite a thorough person would have examined everything anyway. I agree with you on the time scale, just take your time and it will be done when it is done. Thanks Jack for the update.👍👍
Good choice Jack - I always loved the Miura in green - the Pantera will look awesome when its finished. Maybe some gold or bronze accents to finish it off? Good luck with the engine 😎👍🏻
Jack the roller lifters are a great idea as they allow for a better cam profile but run solids rather than hydraulic ones. The only advantage hydraulic lifters have would be if you ran anti pump up hydraulics as they would allow you to run the bigger cam that would be tamed in the lower rpm range by the anti pump up lifters and then when the revs rise the anti pump up lifter pumps up and transfers the full cam profile to the valve gear. Anti pump up lifters are in effect Vtec for pushrod motors
I am so glad you went with the original lime green so no I don't think it is over the top. It is great that you are generally taking it back to a more original condition. I have to say tho , I did like it in black....
I thought the lime was really bad.... then i saw your trousers 😂😂 the lime looks ok 👍
😆
Why don't you swap colors between the car and the trousers. As you sleep you won't see the green anyway ... if you get to sleep at all.
🤣😂🤣
@@Number27 Why did you paint that Pantera the same colour as the phlegm that I coughed up the last time I had bronchitis? YUCK!

If it’s an original color, which it is…, there’s no way to have gone too far. In historical context, it is genuine. No matter how audacious. And I think it looks great.

Awful... sorry.

Audacious, perhaps. Great, in any case. This jewel of a car will be the absolute eye-catcher on the streets when finished.
Don't judge the color without all the trim and the right wheels. It will look amazing!
Exactly!
Spot on. It looks so bare & the colour more garish with nothing to break it up. It'll look great when back together.
Yes my thoughts
Hey Jack. Those are not necessarily "low compression" pistons. Your Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads have 60cc chambers. I'm actually surprised they don't have fly-cut valve reliefs in them. I think it's fabulous!
The car itself is outrageously attractive and that colour means no one will ever miss it as it roars by !

I must say I've been missing the car project videos. Love the review videos but I started with you on the 308, 306, 205 etc.and loved that series.
I think the colour is awesome. Sorry to hear about the engine woes. Really not ideal but at least once it's rebuilt you will know for sure that the engine is in top working order.
great choice with engine re-build - ARP Head studs , super good idea - good luck and thank you .
Jack, love the videos and love the colour...looks great...
You never let us down with the quality of your video's Jack, perfect colour for the car.
Thank you Paul!! Glad you’re still watching!
That colour is perfect! Stunning. Great choice
Good choice Jack - I always loved the Miura in green - the Pantera will look awesome when its finished. Maybe some gold or bronze accents to finish it off? Good luck with the engine 😎👍🏻
That lime says Welcome Back to the '70s and I really like it. The '70s were like that. 😀
Luv the colour, car looks fantastic. You will have a fabulous car at the end of this
Perfect nice original colour Jack, it looks fantastic.
Perfect Pantera paint! Wonderful colour!
I am so glad you went with the original lime green so no I don't think it is over the top. It is great that you are generally taking it back to a more original condition. I have to say tho , I did like it in black....
