Good lesson. “Had” to take my high school sweetheart to see these guys back in the day. Guilty pleasure, I guess. 😂
This band wasn’t quite a one hit wonder they had at least three, but I know what you mean.
    Thanks Kelly!

    Outstanding, KDA!
My best bud, the guitarist who got me into recently learning to play the instrument myself, was an Outfield fanatic. I was dragged to around 11 of the 'fielders' gigs across the U.S., including a couple of nights of debauchery afterwards with the band themselves in Port Huron, MI & Orlando, FL. RIP Tony & John - You guys rocked!
Learning this one definitely will benefit me when ensemble noodling with our band.
Thanks much and keep 'em coming!

I have to say great Tutorial.... the first time I heard the Outfield the week the 1st album came out, I bought it that day after work.....I played it so much it got to a point where after playing it so much I stopped listening to it.....and did not think about that much till maybe 20 yrs later.....now I can hear it and still enjoy the music.....

Great lesson. However the outfield were far from a one hit wonder band, this track hit number six on the US Hot 100, but they scored with four other top 40 hits in the States “all the love in the world” “since you’ve been gone” “voices of Babylon” which actually charted higher than “your love” on the US Rock chart and “for you”.
    This is a great song.

Yeah, when I think one hit wonder The Kings - Switching To Glide comes to mind. The Outfield really did have some other good songs like Say It Isn't So, All The Love. Were they hits .. maybe but not as big as Your Love.

@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar That's funny you mentioned that because up until a couple of years ago, I used to assume the same thing about a lot of good bands. That's the nice thing about RUclips. Now when I rediscover a great song, I do a search for their other works and I'm often amazed how they actually have a number of solid albums (and of course other times I discover they really were one-hit wonders). 90% of the songs you feature are familiar to me and I always explore the other 10% since we have such similar taste. Are you familiar with The Good Rats? If not, check out songs like Does It Make You Feel Good, Ratcity In Blue, Taking It To Detroit, Victory In Space, School Days... Tons of great guitar!

Oh man, thanks so much for this one Kelly. Played this to death when it came out, I loved the singing as much as the guitar.

Man you are an awesome teacher! This is a tune that I happened to already reasonably well. But still, I find I pick up a little nuances so readily from your explanations. Always a treat! Much appreciated!

I’ve been listening to them since they hit the scene in the 90’s. Very talented musicians, it’s a shame the guitarist passed

very cool. that album did have several really great songs. The Outfield sounded to me, like the Beatles meet the Police. Mystery Man?..I think that was another great tune

Lesson suggestion: something by Big Head Todd and the Monsters. The rhythm is straight forward and catchy. And solo work is full on Rock Blues. KDA Love your style of teaching and that you do the entire song!

I remember reading about the release of Play Deep from the perspective of the band. The thought was that the guitar in 1985 was dead as an instrument to produce hits. At that point in the 80s it was all about keyboards. Play Deep had 4 songs that charted in the US: Say it Isn't So, Your Love, All the Love and Everytime You Cry. The album was double platinum in the US and showed guitar based songs could still chart based on the strength of the song and the musicians. They wrote some very catchy music!

They had a lot more hits than just Your Love. The whole album was amazing, but sadly they never played the rest of them. The song Cherry really showed off his vocal chops. I still own all of their albums, one of my fav. bands.

Never heard anyone say these guys sounded like the police. The singer sounds nothing like Sting and has a way higher voice than Sting (Jon Anderson high type of voice). Also the guitar riffs sound nothing like Andy Summers would play and the rhythm is straight ahead rock which the Police did not do as much.
