This guy is a national treasure. He could schoo Jayl Leno on so many things. It would a fun meet up. They're both funny and chill dudes. Somebody make that happen!!!!
I did this when I first bought my Miata. The AC and Heater smelled AWFUL like mold, then I remembered Scotty had a video on doing this trick. after one can of Lysol, it fixed it and it hasn't smelled since, almost a year later.
Scotty's advice is perfect for killing microbes after they have grown inside your ventilation system. If you want to minimize the growth of NEW microbes inside your ventilation, get in the habit of turning off your air conditioner 1 to 2 minutes before shutting down the vehicle BUT leave the fan running until the air blowing through the vents is close to ambient temperature. You will not get much condensation forming on cold surfaces inside the ventilation system and therefore there won't be much microbial growth fed by said condensation.
Love your channel. Did this on my 2007 Honda Accord EX. Set the fan to MAX and set the climate control to 70 and immediately smelled that awful musty smell. Sprayed the Lysol as Scotty said to do and now my car smells pleasant. I also shared this video with three other people.
This is the second video you’ve made on the topic but you should probably advise people to remove the cabin air filter or the antibacterial properties of the Lysol won’t make it to the end of the line(the vents).
That's why I use lysol before I change the cabin filter, taking the old one out before that, naturally. By the way, he mentioned lysol in at least half a dozen videos.
One of the best tips ever. Was changing the filters, using all sort of AC cleaner products that didn't really work. Just plain surface spray cleaner on the inlet and also under the dash when recirculating mode is on and my AC is fresh for months now!
I used to have a 2008 Corolla, and I found out that they are notorious for having problems with their AC condensers growing mold and bacteria (which would smell if you ran the AC, and then turned the car off without running the blower with the AC compressor turned off to dry it out). I think it had to do with how condensed they were building their cars. I sprayed Lysol through it like he did, and it worked like a charm!
What cleaner is that? He is covering the label and doesn’t say the type just whats in it, love this guy though he explains everything so well, learned my first oil change from him, breaks, and more! Thanks Scotty!
Also remove the old pollen filter and replace with a fresh one, preferably one with a carbon anti bacterial filter. Also completely clean out the pollen filter housing with something like this product Scotty is using here! The pollen filter collects microbes and bacteria and is an ideal warm, moist breeding ground for them, that's what causes the smell. Doing this also helps to prevent misting windows when it rains! ⚠️😲👍
Great tip Scotty also don’t forget to mention to change out your cabin air filter underneath the glove box usually about 14 bucks makes a big difference also
Hey Scotty, I used AC Pro vent and duct cleaner exactly as said in its instructions, but i noticed that after doing the treatment the ac compressor started making a noise every time i turn ON the ac. On fan there no noise. The noise is coming from outside so its def the compressor. Is it possible that these cleaners can mess up with compressors? I did it today so may be tomorrow the noise will go down after i drive around and the liquid will dry off... but just condering if these things are good or bad for ac evaporator coil and compressor and the fan motor which has electrical system. This thing does get to the cabin air filter area so I had the filter removed during treatment, but I am also wondering if this can harm the fan motor ? Thanks !!
@@biblicallyhazed well looks like the noise is suppressed after a while. Honda crv makes such a loud cvt noise that when car is running you won't notice compressor noise anyways. So far fan motor is doing fine no signs of issues. Looks like it is safe to use but I will recommend don't keep the AC on when doing such treatments, just turn the fan on with outside flow option ON
I have this problem in my home, I'm gonna spray Lysol on the filter at my air return filter. I hope it works. Eventually, I would have to get it done professionally in home ventilation. Thanks for the car dash tip.
Most cars have a cabin air filter. Pull it out and spray it with your favorite whatever, febreze perfume cologne whatever. Car smells good for months and can quickly get rid of those certain smells produced on this wonderful holiday. Happy holidays, smoke em if you get em!
I have tried Lysol, Kool-It Cleaner, and taken it to the dealer for a cleaning with their own foam/spray to clean the evaporator but it never gets rid of the mold. How do I really sanitize my car's AC for good? I don't want to spend $2000 for a new evaporator which may or may not solve the problem. Thoughts?
I've also been told in the summer time. Before you stop your car, let it run without air conditioning. Running the hot air will prevent Mold and Mildew from growing in your system is this true?
well, i found if i turned on the temp to max but with the blower on low when i got home after using the AC for about 2 minutes, it would totally dry out the hvac ducting, then turning off the car.
The evaporator comes first, so even if your AC is on blasting heat won't work since the air is cooled first then heated up. The evaporator is still damp and cold. Just use Scott's advice. One can of spray will last you a couple of years anyways.
We had foam we would spray in the outlet tube under the car. You use half a can to clean it, then the other half to flush out any debris. Worked great. New filter with some of that disinfectant spray, smells perfectly clean.
I've sprayed Lysol into my air vents also works. But also as he said you need to repeat every few weeks in the summer. If you can remember turn OFF your air conditioner about 2-3 minutes before you arrive at your destination so there's less moisture in the air ducts
Thank you, Scotty. I never knew that. I just have been changing my cabin and engine air filters. Here's hoping that might help the horrid cigarette stench from the previous owner.
@Laura-dn4nw definitely change out the cabin air filter if you haven't done that already and also do this lysol trick I'm currently dealing with a heavy smoking car right now and it's been a battle but I picked up the febreeze heavy fabric refresher and I've been spraying the interior lightly and letting it air dry over the past week
Scottys trying to solve the cause without the problem 1. check to make sure your AC condensation drain line is not plugged easy to see if you run your ac and no water comes out or little. 2. Take out your interior cabin filter and look for debris. 3. take a leafblower or high output device and blow back up from the filter location to blow out blockage you can also do the opposite from the top down but make sure you have the circulation set up on max vents not just floor or dash..3. when you spray keep those vent selections open and vary them when spraying otherwise you are just spraying into one system. 4. spray some into the cabin filter area. 5. replace cabin filter his solution is half baked at best
this won't do a thing unless you disable recirculating air, most people never switch to "fresh" mode since that's harder to cool down and clogs up your vents faster
Scotty has another video on fresh vs circulated which i wish i could find, but the point is he recommends fresh due to less chance of co inhalation if I remember correctly
You've got to keep an A/C system clean. A lot of people don't keep their central air system clean, then it gets clogged and you've got a flood on your floor.
I don't know, most of these anti-bacterial sprays are toxic and not intended to be used to spray into the air (which is essentially what you are doing here). I thought about doing this in my house by spraying into the cold air return while the A/C was running but I was concerned it would get on food or food preparation surfaces. Houses develop mold also, you know.
I thought the air intake for aircon was inside the car. However the ventilation fans take the air from outside. Replacing the cabin filter and cleaning the air intake eliminated bad smell for me. Which only occured when aircon was off and fans were running. There never was any smell from the aircon.
Can you help me I have be touran 2017 yesterday I switched on my car ac and then I saw water coming out of air vents would you know what could be the problem or reason let me know thanks
