Very helpful. Watched this yesterday after ordering my Z5, watching again as I wait for the battery to charge, and will likely watch a few more times, as I'm use to Canon's menu system (and their entry level DSLRs). Thanks!
Thank you very much for making this very pleasant video. I had questions but I figured them out so this is in edit to advise that I no longer have questions. Again, thank you very much!
La Z5 sigue siendo la mejor cámara mirrorless por precio, prestaciones, rendimiento y resultados. Y esta ecuación favorece tanto a los aficionados entusiastas como a los profesionales.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography I would like to thank you because you made me learn my camera!! One question please. Can you please recommend which is the best option for the image quality? For example , I am travelling in Norway tomorrow and i want a setting which secures the image quality and then I can process it. It has RAW*Β , RAW*F , RAW* Ν and I really don't know what to choose. I would appreciate your feedback, thanx!
Good on you for learning your camera 👏👏👏 Norway would be awesome. Choose NEF (RAW) It’s under Image Quality, which is under PHOTO SHOOTING MENU on the menu function (2nd option on left hand column).
About back-button focus: I'm currently trying to figure out whether BBF is for me or not, so I've set up U1 for shutter button focus and U2 for BBF with otherwise identical settings (based on aperture priority). This is one of the things I've found that very few tips & hacks videos ever mention with regard to user modes: You don't have to immediately try and figure out THE final forever "best" setting for the user modes. Oftentimes for beginners, it's more advisable to use the user modes to quickly try out and compare different settings without having to fiddle with the menu in the field.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography I'm not sure that's true. I find that I manage to hold the camera still a lot easier with release button focus. The additional finger movement with BBF often leads to missed shots due to camera shake, especially when I need to be quick.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography If that works for you that's great. I struggle with it, at least at shutter speeds slower than 1 over focal length (e.g. 120mm at 1/125s can be alright, but slower shutter speeds at that focal length usually result in shake). So I try to go for 3-point-stabilization (eye, and both hands, with upper arms pressed against my body). With this technique, I haven't had much success with BBF. I'm probably going to keep my current user modes for the time being. I do see that many possible advantages of BBF, but as of right now I'm fairly sure that I'll never be using it for everything.
Fair enough @@CC3GROUNDZERO I wanted to get better at holding still, so stood in the surf for an hour shooting at night, managed to get to the point where I can hold the camera still for 1 - 2 seconds without shake, you have to use your breathing, concentrate and have a good stance. It's a good thing to practice though, for when you really need it. If you don't have surf, any form of wind is good opportunity to get more steady.

On my budget the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.8 S was best prime lens and what I use to astrophotography . For the D7500, I like using Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC. I do regret trading up the Z5 2 years back, but I like using the Z5 and it does take excellent photos. @@RalphMayhewPhotography
Z5 is a gem for the price. Do you know if there is autofocus settings to allow you to focus by meters/feet similar to zone focusing but with a manual lens? For instance for street photography wanting everything in 10 feet being in focus.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography it’s usually a manual lens based function. However one brand allows you to do it in camera too. Just curious getting close to getting a z5 and foikf to pick up the small primes and a few manual lenses.
Yes of course that can be one of the reasons I do event and portrait photography and that’s all I can notice I do have trouble with the eye detector I miss my shots sometimes that’s the reality . But when I use this camera for landscape or street photography I don’t have a problem mostly super sharp.Oh I just upgrade the firmware yesterday thanks to your video so I’m exited to see the improvements 🎉
That’s a very good question. I have no idea. It’s always the stress of buying a product after it’s been out for a little while. What we can guess though, is that the z5ii if it comes out, won’t be close to the z6. So this means there’s only marginal gains available and there will be a cost bump. I don’t think it would have the top screen display. They may bump up the fps but it’s no guarantee. I am just speculating though.
I agree with what is said in that DPReview link. If they were to make a z5ii with a BSI sensor and better AF, it would make the z6/z6ii obsolete. so the best option for Nikon to do is just set sale the z6ii as a new permanent price point at $1699.
@mayorga4911 would u get the z5 in this period or wait and see? I ever got this issue before with D70 to D80 many years ago as a newbie. Very bad feeling.. don't like it
