    Hi, Dr. Westie. I’m nineteen and currently battling with extreme insomnia for the first time in my life while also having the weirdest period ever. It was actually a month late and as soon as I started bleeding I couldn’t sleep through the night. I’m not a person who can even stay up until 2AM let alone pull an all nighter but my body has been wired the past three nights to stay up the entire night. Even weirder part is, I didn’t get any sleep last night and am yawning but actually feel pretty alert and okay right now. I’m trying not to get myself worked up over this. Dealing with some insurance issues so I can’t go to the doctors yet. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for being so generous with all the information you put in your videos. ❤️

      It’s really hard to say. There are so many things that can impact hormones, so I would look into some of those things (stress, change in environment, nutrition, etc).

    Hi there! Randomly reaching out because I’m at my wits end and you seem like such an approachable and accessible resource for truth. I’m 22 and haven’t had my period for around 8 months.. I was sleeping great last month but the past few days have been awful. I haven’t been able to sleep AT ALL. And am tired during the day. I really need to get my period back but have tried so many things. I am not underweight, but have extremely low estrogen.

      When is the last time you’ve done a comprehensive hormone test to not just check your levels but to also see how your system is functioning and processing hormone? That is really where you want to start.

    I do understand all the points about sleep hygiene and healthy routines (reading, turning off our phones etc), but I feel like hormones are way too strong and doing all those things never help me one bit. Same with skin issues... I have a great skincare routine, but hormonal acne cannot be fixed with skincare... I wake up to 15 times a night and it lasts a long longer than a few days. My sleep is best for a few days during follicular phase. Most of the time it is bad, starting around ovulation... I know my estrogen builds up a LOT (I also have very high progesterone), and I figured Calcium-D-Glucarate might help my liver and phase 2 detoxification... Would you consider that a good and safe option to see if it might help my sleep? It has worked before with bringing my estradiol levels down, so I figured I would give it another go. I just ordered it myself this time and I really hope it might help my insomnia... because chronic insomnia is NO joke 😅

      I would recommend digging deeper to find the root cause of the insomnia instead of just guessing with supplements. Most times with insomnia it’s a much deeper issue. This is what I use Dutch testing for! drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/

      I agree how to you go from sleeping like a baby and then you have such bad sleep problems. I don't agree with sleep hygiene if you haven't changed anything. Found out my progesterone is low and ratio to estrogen is very low. Perimenopause at 37!

    Hello doctor, I am so glad I came across your video. I am currently under holistic care this is my third week taking all the needed supplements and vitamins and my doctor has me on natural progesterone. I’m 3 months postpartum. The trouble started 3 weeks postpartum, it started with depression, then severe anxiety which lead to insomnia. I’ve had insomnia since. Only get 3-4 hours a night. I went on Zoloft for 10 days the end of February and weaned off because I hated what it did to my brain and body. I definitely feel the adrenal fatigue. My organs are not functioning properly since things spiraled downward. I know it’s my hormones and adrenals. So now that I’m on natural progesterone , what do I do to get my estrogen up because my acupuncture doctor said my estrogen is low?? I’m currently waiting for my follow up appointment with holistic doc. I’m very curious what you think. I need help, please I’m only 25 years old. I have a 3 month old baby and my husband is out of town. I have the help of my mom but I want my mind and body back so I can care for my baby husband and myself. I am on week 9 of extreme fatigue each day, insomnia, (depression and anxiety has gotten better since), but still lack of emotion, and feelings of out of touch and , feelings of going “crazy” or not in my right mind. Lots of irritability as well.

    I switched from a combination pill to the mini pill. Within a couple of months my insomnia and fibromyalgia pain where terrible. A very drastic change!! I figured it had to be the bc change so I went back to my combination pill. Within days my sleep and pain level improved. However, I am having severe acid reflux and I think it’s the combination pill causing it. Idk understand why if I didn’t experienced this before. Any thoughts?

    I had a hysterectomy 12 years ago & still have my ovaries. I’m 52 and just had a blood test. My estrogen, FSH & LH all looked normal (non menopausal). But I’ve had so much insomnia & moodiness for a couple years. Do you think progesterone would help? TY

    • @DrBethWestie
      @DrBethWestie  4 года назад

      So a blood test is just going to give you a look at hormone levels at that exact time, not necessarily how they’re functioning in the body. So while levels may look “normal” that doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem. I have some videos on the DUTCH test you may find helpful!

    Hi Doctor, I have a question. Does low DHEA cause chronic insomnia. My lab results show low DHEA. MY primary cant explain it to me. He referred me to am endocrinologist. Your so knowledgeable please let me know if you have an answer. Gentle hugs xoxox

    • @DrBethWestie
      @DrBethWestie  5 лет назад +1

      It can, yes! DHEA affects hormone levels, so if it’s low it’s throwing that natural cycle off. Which is responsible for also regulating sleep cycles.

  • @acfierros73
    @acfierros73 5 лет назад

    Great video. Quick question is anxiety and menopausal insomnia caused by low estrogen or not enough? I had a hysterectomy in 2012 due to endometriosis. I had a doctor tell me I could have an ovarian remnant explains why I never had symptoms. So I may still be getting natural estrogen. Even though the ultrasound didn't show an ovary remnant I'm wondering if it's in there somewhere. My other doctor has me on .5 estradoil. I've been on it for 11 weeks. My sleep has improved but there are still those nights I can't fall asleep and the next day anxiety hits me hard. My doctor says I could go to 1mg but I'm afraid.

    • @DrBethWestie
      @DrBethWestie  5 лет назад

      There are other organs in the body that produce estrogen and progesterone, so even after a hysterectomy your body will still naturally go through a hormone cycle. Sleep disturbances can be linked to an irregular hormone cycle, but can also be fixed through whole food nutrition.
