  • I JUST GOT MY WEBSITE UP AND PLANS ARE NOW AVAILABLE HERE: creevesmakes.c...
    As I keep growing and going, I will develop and add more plans to the site! Please comment or contact me and let me know what plans you want to see next! Thank you to everyone for the support! Without you and this community, I wouldn't be able to host and put up this content the way that I do. I hope to make this a more common occurrence in 2019! Thanks!
    Hello everyone,
    Our master bedroom was in desperate need of an overhaul. The main wall had a large mural (of Wrigley Field) on it at one point and the bank, that was selling the house, had the painters paint OVER it. The seams were bad and the paint had run and drip marks everywhere. I made the comment to my wife, that we should just put pallet wood over it. Let the project begin!
    So, here we are. We prepped all the walls and installed 4) LED 3" can lights with a dimmer switch. Word of mouth, and perfect timing, allowed for me to acquire more than 30 pallets to dismantle. I planed all of the boards and ripped them on the table saw to provide clean edges for uniformity in most of the rows. For the light switch cover, I cut a section of the wall board out and routed the back of it out and glued magnets into it to hold it to the switch.
    We chose the best looking boards for the upper section and then we stained a few random boards towards the bottom to keep the color similarity. I used brad nails and glue to attach the boards. After the install was done, we put on 3 coats of water-based poly.
    Enjoy!

      Hey there Doe, we just used Minwax Dark Walnut, Driftwood, and Weathered Oak mixed to our liking. We only stained about 8-10 boards in this whole wall. Everything you see is pretty much the natural wood color and grain. Then we applied 3 coats of Polycrylic to seal it all up. Thanks!

    • @CReevesMakes
      @CReevesMakes  2 года назад +1

      You could use glue but maybe get some small trim nails and a hammer and throw a nail in each end of the long ones. Just to hold them in place so you can keep moving.

    out of curiosity, how will it look like after a few seasons of heat and cold? the wood wants to expand and contract so when you butt them that tight how bad will it start to buckle?

    What was your technique of dismantling the pallets so quickly? Also are you hitting studs with the nails?

    • @CReevesMakes
      @CReevesMakes  6 лет назад

      A reciprocating saw and circular were used for most of the dismantling. I used a hammer and pry bar for the stubborn ones. If you do not want to maintain the long length boards, you can just cut out the good sections with a circ saw. That is the quickest way. They also make tools specifically designed for pallet dismantling, but I did not feel I needed one for this project. Just curious...what was done to make sure the pallets were safe and did not contain any harmful chemicals? Otherwise, looks really nice!

      I only used pallets that were in good shape and from a dry goods shipping company. I planed the boards and then sanded them prior to staining some of them and then adding clear coat to all of them. Not sure that qualifies as guaranteeing their safe but the wood all looked really good.

      For my pallet wood wall I used what ever pallets I could find. I decided to pressure wash all the boards since I left them all natural when I put them on the wall. ruclips.net/video/YSX9awkg2eg/видео.html

      That is just a basic Ridgid 13” planer. There are a lot of great options out there to buy.

    Great job! Agree with others that the recessed lighting really makes the wall shine. What was the last thing you painted on the wood. Was it a wood lacquer or something?

      Will Mendez We used a water based polyurethane to seal the wall. We put on 3 coats with 220 sanding in between each coat. Thanks!

    Did you space the boards at all? Was it 1/2 in drywall back?

    • @CReevesMakes
      @CReevesMakes  3 года назад +1

      No spacing. It was 1/2” drywall on the walls.

    since you ran all your boards through the planer, how come you decided to have them different thicknesses?

    • @CReevesMakes
      @CReevesMakes  6 лет назад +3

      Hey Jacob, the thought did cross my mind, but after seeing how the boards were looking, we decided that we really like the dimensional look of different heights. Being that all the boards were random lengths and widths, I felt the thickness should be random as well. Call it personal preference. Thanks!

    Great job! Interested about what color stain you used? I’ve been asked to make my sister an accent wall in her bedroom.

      I just mixed some colonial maple, English chestnut together and rubbed it into some of the boards. Only a handful of boards have stain. Everything is covered in a satin Polycrylic

      I used a blend of early American, English chestnut, and colonial maple from Minwax and then coated the wall with Minwax Polycrylic.

      Clear Polycrylic finish by Minwax. 3 coats

    What finish are you using? Did you just stain and no oil or varnish over the top?

    • @CReevesMakes
      @CReevesMakes  5 лет назад +1

      Only a couple of boards were stained with some old Minwax that we had. The clear coat is Minwax Polycrylic in Satin

      Brinder, sorry for the delay! I used Minwax Polycrylic to seal the wood after we put it up. Some of the boards got regular Minwax stain.

    Hi, so this work on cemantic walls, would the glue stock well?

    • @CReevesMakes
      @CReevesMakes  6 лет назад

      Do you mean ceramic? I would remove the ceramic tile first and get the wall as clean and flat as possible. You would need to use glue or find the wall studs or framing to attach the pallet slats to. Good luck! Thanks!

      Hey there Adam, we just used Minwax Dark Walnut, Driftwood, and Weathered Oak mixed to our liking. We only stained about 8-10 boards in this whole wall. Everything you see is pretty much the natural wood color and grain. Then we applied 3 coats of Polycrylic to seal it all up. Thanks!
