      Well , Tank mostly used as a shield for troops to take charge . Landscape in VietNam is had for a tank battle , maybe ATGM will be a good solution . In 1979 , when Chinese brought their tanks to fight Vietnam , only with RPG-7 Vietnamese destroy 80% of Chinese tanks in only 4 days . So buying too costly MBT in VietNam is not a good idea

      Well, modern MTBs aren't designed for short range combat, such as a jungle or forest and uneasy terrain, but much older tanks from the 60s all the way to WW2 are perfect for the environment.

      when facing other contemporary MBT like Leo1, Centurion or M48/M60.... the T55 is NOT a good tank and was already obsolete and no longer competitive.

      during Operaton Desert Storm, upgraded T55 of the iraki army got destroyed without even being able to detect the M1, Cr1 and Leo1 shooting at them from distance.

      Can be brief like this. China’s politician Deng Xiao Ping want to teach VNC a lesson, VNC main battle army is on their way to kick Polpot ass since they cross the border, invade 6 VN province and killing more than 30.000 of VN innocent people, Polpot Iengsary genocide is fact used to be communism who fought side by side with VNC but after 1975 when American left South VN, Polpot Iengsary started to leave VNC for CCP. They learned the Communism way from CCP by CCP model concentration camp and force labour which lead to 2.2 million Cambodians die. Thats will be not a big deal since we all communist by that time (VNC,CCP, Polpot genocide), Polpot have the right to do what ever he and his genocide want as long as inside his country (UN not allow other country to interfere other country inside matter) but Polpot try to invade VN. Since Polpot is backed by CCP at that time then Ping decided to “teach VN a lesson”. He start a war of 60 division (roughly 600000 mans) all across VN border and China border claim that “breakfast at Lang Son, Lunch at Ha Noi, dinner at Saigon” which indicate that China will take VN in one day. But fact that after 14 day they only move 0.9km per day. When VNC start to take things seriously and move the main battle forces from Cambodia to North VN (thankfully we have our trustful Soviet Union that time provide us air-transportation) Ping claim that he win the war and achives war course then retreat all his forces. But it took 13 days after Ping announcement for PLA to fully out of VN land. The war is also to test Soviet reaction if VNC is under attack, thankfully SVU is still huge that time and they deploy about 1 millions troop to the Far East apply lots of pressure on CCP that time. According to expert SVU is willing to attack if CCP commited full invasion on VN. That summerized the conflict

    One thing which seems conspicuous by its absence are ERA panel covered skirts covering the hull sides and top half of the tracks.
    The upgrading of the fire-control and sighting systems would be the most important of what the VPA has done, I would hazard a guess that they've figured that sustaining a single hit from a modern Russian or Chinese tank would at least be a mission-kill and there are limits as to what appliqué ERA panels can help protect from with plain RHA (not composite, like would show up with the T-62) backing it up.

Recalling before 1975, Mig 17 aircraft of the Vietnam People's Air Force did not mind American aircraft, before Mig 21 appeared. No matter how modern the weapon is, if you can't master it, your spirit is weak, and your discipline is not high enough to lead to failure.

    I have been watching MasterMilo's refurbishment of a Type 69. One of the notable difficulties he has faced is excessive engine smoke. Similar amounts of smoke appearing at 2:26 here, perhaps this is a feature and not a bug.

    • @boocomban
      @boocomban 2 года назад +1

      it is a Diesel engine, used a manual timed fuel injector. It is a bug as well as a feature as all of the tank has a function to produce the smoke cover by inject more fuel into the engine to produce the thick smoke screen. on the Soviet tank like T-54, it can produce 15 minutes of Diesel smoke before your engine go toast and everyone has a shitty day to maintain after it. But yes, all of the Diesel engine tanks will smoke when they rev high so saddle due to the fuel is not burn fast enough (diesel is more dense than gasoline), this is even worse in a cold climate as diesel harder to ignite at that time. this is Challenger smoke, as you can see even when its engine idle, it still produces white smoke, and when it turns on the smoke generator, as you can see the smoke thicker as it rev this can say it is a diesel engine bug and a feature as well. /watch?v=goLNmcmYcA0

Everyone else is getting rid of their T55's and would be ecstatic to get more than scrap value for those parts. Also, Vietnam has an entire industry supplying spare parts for, or modifying their salvaged American equipment _without_ the aid of the country of origin. Making/procuring/modifying spare parts for a T55 could only be easier. Secondly, I imagine they will address thermal signature during the refits, as there is only so much you can do for that before you wrap the whole thing in a thermal blanket, old equipment or new.
      Lastly, it will not be used for frontline service, just infantry support and the like. On paper at least.

      Keep in mind Vietnam's focus is on defending against Chinese aggression, for which these modernized tanks are aptly suited.
      Lastly, ANY tank facing down infantry that are out of anti-tank weaponry is a formidable foe (the Germans discovered this when overrun by hordes of Soviet tanks), so even these old modernized vehicles have a purpose in Vietnam's doctrine.
      They are very much the AK-47 of tanks in my mind.

      @Bruh Moment It can, just depending on the situation. A cheap tank anyone can get means that in small conflicts, the side with just a handful of outdated tanks will have a huge advantage over the side that doesn't. Also remember that they still pose a threat to all modern armies simply because of how common they are. Even modern MBTs can be knocked out by them if they're not careful.

  • @RigepFroggit

    a 100mm gun is still a 100mm gun and it still kills. Vietnam doesn't need a bunch of new multi-million dollar western tanks. Update the fire control, the sight, slap on some new reactive armor and it works. New engines would be nice but not necessary what they've got works and you can make replacement parts in any machine shop, maybe upgrade the suspension to deal with increased weight.

    something that might not be considered about the engine of the T-54/55's.... they are old fashioned motors. In other words they don't need shielding from electronic bursts. They can start up without expensive shielding and replacement of electronics that would be knocked out by any EP blasts either atmospheric or localized. Sounds to me like Vietnam has made a very sound investment

      Fact that VPA Airforce and Navy is widely popular since the threat from China on East sea rising every day. We have about 4 Gerpard 3.9 from Russ, 6 kilo sub also from Russ, about 30 Su30MKII jetfighter (4 generation) and whole bunch of Su27 (which considered old and not usefull as well). Other than that with navy we also have 8 Molniya type of attack missle ship. Since China is a “wrose neighbor” one can have, the VN government tent to show most of Navy and AF to indicated that we still can fight back (even that fight is considerable hard lose) and they might suffer some lost aswell

      @@briancavanagh7048 Im not eligible to anwer such political question. But as far as I know, VNC ideology for resolving international conflict is by multilateral negotiation (of course, what choice do any smaller country have against a big bad bully like China?!). But VNC’s war philosophy is totally difference, VNC determined not to unite with other country to go against another country. That concept was one of three main war philosophy for very long time since recently, VN’s Defences White-book has added one more concept which allow VN to collective defense (but still not joining any War alliances). The thing that China was and still constructuring these island is inevitable, most of VNese awared that. But difficulties is that all country claim they have right in EAST SEA dont want to recognized other right on that sea. If a joining forces between them is really take place then who gonna benefit from that? Who really own the part they claim? That a really hard international problem which one cant never slove! As a VNese one thing i can make sure is VNese and VNC will never give up on EAST SEA, truth hurt that is only heaven come true then we take back Hoang Sa island which China took from us more than 40 years ago but with Truong Sa and what remains we still have, VNC and VNese will do what ever it take to defences it. @Bao Thuy bigger doesnt mean better! The bigger it is, the harder to sustain and manage. What VNC need to do right now is took advance of international community! The VN economy is pretty small and it’s hard to maintance a large army, defense budget is reaching around 3% GDP and still growing is not a good sign, the last thing we need is armed race.

    • @trunganguc732
      @trunganguc732 2 года назад

      @Bao Thuy and no matter how big the navy is, it’s not wise go toe to toe with PLA navy. Compared to what VPA navy has, PLA navy is about 15-20 times bigger (only Nam Hai fleet) and 3-4 times more advance! That not inclued air forces which the number is way aboved navy. Just look at the fact and try not to day dream that we might never reclaim our island loss in CCP hand, just try to keep what we still have!

      @@Rose.Of.Hizaki I do not think collector items would help vs. China. They will be replaced by slightly younger T-55s. There are plenty of potential buyers. Even T-34/85 is no longer "cheap" it costs more then T-55 (!) Su-100 / Su-76 or even M-48 are all more then a T-55. The tanks in storage are worth more then the tanks that are newer and about to replace them. Part of the high resale value of this historical collection is excellent condition. Where else would you find a battle ready Su-100? You can try North Korea but I doubt they are selling or even capable with sanctions of a sale. Also US stuff - cannot get that from NK (they do not have enough themselves). Where can you get for example early M48? Granted M48 is equivalent to T-55 but there are far more T-55 so value of M48 is higher then that of T-55. Too bad Vietnam did not fight the Germans, Panzer IV in mint condition is up to 3 million USD. Famous Tiger - if one was for sale (British will not budge) would easily go over 10m - more then a brand new Abrams. T-34/85 should sell for about 25% more than a nice T-55 - or at least 150,000 USD.
