I grew up in England saying Lorry, my brother is a 'Lorry Driver' but after living in Oz for many years I now say 'Truck' but when I hear someone say Lorry it makes me smile & I think it sounds quaint. As for straps I was always told to put the ratchet on the nearside, so that if you need to stop & tighten them, you're not standing in the middle of the road. Enjoying travelling with you.
I’ve always been a lorry driver because ai drive a lorry , a truck is the bleepy thing that unloads me 😂 P.S . I HATE being called driver or even worse drive ☹️
Nice to see you back on the road 😂 hope you had a great time the vlogs from oz were spot on lots of good content enjoyed this one too thanks sherralin take care drive safe 👍
Greetings from Ireland...☘️.. Many thanks for the wonderful and informative video...Your a wonderful narrator and also a wonderful driver...Keep the coming their much appreciated ..Thanks again...Patrick...☘️☘️
Another great video, recognised the airport at Sttutgart, that you passed through at night. My son worked at Porsche in Sttutgart and used to visit him on a regular basis. Agreed the Black Forest is beautiful. It looked like you unloaded in Augsburg. I used to visit Ulm in the 1980's which is quite close and drove through Augsburg to get there. Couldn't believe in the Magirus factory in Ulm they had vending machines that dispensed small bottles of beer. Agreed Germany is a very efficient country, the language is a bit mechanical though. Another couple of words you can learn in German is Krankenvagen ( ambulance), Krankenhaus ( hospital) and the town hall is called the Rathaus. Crazy language but fun
Just to add a bit to my comment, I've watched loads of Inside the ambulance programs and others and several of the crews have even called their emergency ambulance "the truck". Why? It's an ambulance.
Dear Sherallin thank you for a thoroughly relaxing and informative video diary, I really enjoyed watching your journey whilst learning and observing the cultural differences. Your narration I find to be calming, well done. ❤
Nice to see you driving in Germany. The place you crossed the Rhine, Iffezheim, is actually the last lock on the Rhine. From there on the Rhine flows free all the way up to the Netherlands. You have been to Augsburg, a very beautiful city - a pity you couldn't stay over night and have look at the center. LKW in German is a short form for "Lastkraftwagen", in coloquial German we say "Lastwagen" for lorry and the driver is a "Lastwagenfahrer" or in your case, the female form "Lastwagenfahrerin". You could say: "Ich bin Lastwagenfahrerin" (I'm a lorrydriver). Greetings from Offenbach/Germany!
Onya Sherralin. Did you manage a small holiday to get over the holiday. I guess you were happy to be back with family. Great vlogs as always. Stay safe, travel well. The Ol' Fella Greg.💝
Hiya, great holiday thanks. I’m single, my so & grandchildren live 4 hrs away, so it was, sort clothes & washing, a good night or two in my own bed, then back to work. I’m not good at sitting still! 😂😁
As everyone else has said welcome back, and "vielen Dank" ( many thanks) for this Germany jaunt . Yes Garmisch P is a very nice place to visit, Germany is well worth visiting by train as well as road. Auf wiedersehen
Hi Sherralin. Thank you for the latest vlog I do enjoy your work. Hope you had a great time in Australia it’s seems like you did. Flat work can be hard work but I must say satisfying. Take care.
Great to see you back Sherralin hope you had a great holiday really enjoy your vlogs, still waiting for my chance had my class 1 for over 12 months but still no luck with a job yet but will keep applying for jobs, 14 years class 2 driving but it counts for nothing in this industry, experience is a massive stumbling block for new drivers stay safe and take care
Welcome back, didn’t mind driving in Germany. Lots of night driving there but the facilities are spotlessly everywhere. Used to load yogurt in Wurzburg and if you had to finish your break they had spots to park with a plug in. Plenty rules and regulations which as a Paddy I struggled with but not half as hard as the Polizei struggled with me . Ah good old times and love the sound off the Scania your driving now. Old joke with the lads on the fish was , you drive a lorry if you don’t drive a V8 Scania. Over here in the States a lorry can be a truck, semi, 18 wheeler, Large Car and Rooster Cruiser. Trailers are Reefer for a fridge, Skateboard for a flatbed and a Can for a Container with a car transporter being a Portable Parking Lot. The list goes on and on.
Good video . My brother and his wife were in OZ and NZ when you were there . He got a speeding ticket in NZ , 50 down to a 30 even though he was slowing down . Got home and a fine was waiting for him .
Thank you. Yes I had a great time, definitely recommend it. Johno is a great guy. I also went with another driver. Janine was also very interesting, unfortunately we were talking so much I didn’t record it! 🤦🏼♀️
hi Sherralin great see you back from holidays seeing family in OZ back to wet weather here in UK i had issues also with bleeping going off in truck when turning left or passing people on nearside when turning left do not have button to turn it off in the cab till next vlog take care on road 👌
Welcome back. Hope you had a fantastic holiday, and now back with a bang🤣. I'm also back with a new desktop. I've had to watch your videos of NZ and Aus on my tablet, which isn't very good. I've been to Germany many, many years ago, in the early 1980s, as my hubby was based in the Army over there around Celle, Belsen Bergen and other places. Have been to the Black Forest as well, but I did find northern Germany far prettier. I also drove over the Rhine when we visited Arnhem (A Bridge Too Far) in Holland, over to Germany, then Belgium and back home. I actually picked up some of the languages when over there, and what I do, is learn the very basics, eg, good morning/day/night, how to ask for things, thank you, etc. The easiest was Oo Ar... when asking for something. Can't spell the words, just how its prounced🤣. I picked that up from Manchester United fans when asking "where is" Eric Cantonar. Don't bother about the idiots who try to correct you on words. To me, they're just ignorant. After all, English came from England🤣🤣🤣, so actually, we're the ones that are always correct
Holiday over, back to reality. 🤣🤣 Must have been a shock to the system, coming back from the beautiful weather in Australia to a wet and windy Dover.😞😞 38.00 " You say potato I say potato, " that doesn't have as much impact written down, but you get what I mean. 😂😂 Funny the things some people feel are important, ho hum. Thanks again for a really interesting video, I really like the longer ones. Safe journeys.
Enjoyed your Oz adventures, I live in Qld Australia after emigrating from Yorkshire in 1986 did 26 yrs driving a wagon lol see I am an old old Trucker then did 18 yrs driving a Truck in Oz. Happily retired now 82 yrs old, but still enjoy watching Wagon, Lorry,Trucking videos. Keep up the good work.
Hi sherralin welcome back to the uk my late wife came from Lancashire and she aways told everyone I was a wagon driver and the family up north. Still say are you sill driving wagons so that’s another one for you good video with John o stay safe regards bob
Hi Sherralin. Good to see you got back from Oz ok. That bridge at 25.43 has only recently been completed and is part of the ongoing massive building project for the high speed rail link between Stuttgart and Munich. Also, in addition to the info that that other chap gave you, the phonetic pronunciation of LKW is "EL CAR VAY" (Might be useful when you`re trying to get a Lithuanian to shift his lorry sometime in the future :-))
There are no yellow lines on roads in Germany, no single, no double yellows. The signage is sufficient. LKW stands for Lastkraftwagen but it's generally called Laster and some folks even call them Auto
Love the tips and details in this video , The world would be very boring if we all used the same description for everything and all vehicle's, i know folks are trying to be helpful when I'm securing loads maybe it's weird i have to go to a quiet corner in the yard and work by myself, keep safe.
Nice to see you traveling to Augsburg. The buildings near the Bahnpark (a railway museum) you commented on are all quite old. Mostly late 1800s. Know the city well as some of my family live there though I’m U.K. born and bred.
hi , welcome home. Totally agree about Germany go there every year. Changing the subject ,whats the history of your unit ,I noticed it was issued with Edinburgh plates. Keep the vids coming.
I always call a lorry a lorry. Regardless of whom I am speaking to. Simple reason, that is what we say in the UK. Interesting fact is that here in Japan, regardless of whether rigid or an articulated lorry, they are commonly referred to as 'trailers'. When I first came here back in 1991, artics were few and far between. Limited to petrol tankers, which interestingly enough are called 'tank lorry' here. The other variant was a car transporter. That was it. Private trailers behind cars were non-existent until the mid-nineties, even though Subaru had manufactured and sold a caravan briefly in the early seventies. Nowadays, artics are commonplace as well as dolly trailers and centre axle HGV trailers. Consequently, the terminology is also starting to change. Private trailers, goods, caravans, boat and jet-ski as well as car transporters, are now common and increasing year on year.
Hi 👋🏻, that’s interesting. My sister visited Japan a couple of years ago, I don’t know where though, think one of her sons was snowboarding. She said it was an interesting place, full of old fashioned charm and modern style. Maybe that could be another adventure for me 🤔
Well that was a treat seeing bits of Germany. You are right it is a beautiful country. We call lorry's trucks in Canada aswell probably because it is a lot like the USA here. I hope the rest of your trip to Aus was good and i really enjoyed this video.
@@GBtrucklady That's a good question. Quebec is a big french speaking province though a few of the small provinces like New Brunswick also speak some french. I would imagine they say Camion over truck being its a french word.
ooh how i miss that times, 2005 to 09 every 2 weeks Friday after work at dover around 9 pm on the ferry to Dunkirk and arrive in Aachen Germany around 4am visit friends and family and 2pm head out back to Southampton, was always a great time. but now no more just driving east coast Ca to west coast US and back. but safe travels in GB and D
Hi just joined your channal , I did enjoy it but the Americans call their Trucks (Semi's ) . I am also a UK truck driver . Keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing some more of your Channal . Drive Safe
Welcome back to the lovely EU Sherralin, once again thoroughly enjoyed that trip to Germany with you, a bit of a change for you. Spain next? Missing the Volvo comfort yet? (Haha)
No, they’re not used much in UK or Europe as overall length is restricted. Articulated truck and trailer length is 16.5 metres and road trains are allowed up to 18.75 metres, which means if the bonnet is longer then you loose payload space. To be honest, they’re just not practical here as we don’t have as much space, our roads, towns and industrial areas are not designed for them.
Great to watch from Aussie one question what’s the payload max sorry 2 question with all the costs how does it pay also are the French Les routes still good food
As a general rule, the maximum overall weight permissible in Europe is 40tonnes. In UK it’s 44tonnes. I believe in some Nordic countries this is higher and obviously there is provision for “special or abnormal” transport. Most of the Routiers in France are good but again they get busy early. The problem being, people parking but not using the cafe which blocks parking but doesn’t help the cafe stay viable. The German autohof’s are now charging to park but giving you the same amount off your food.
Just came across your videos enjoyed the watch! A question i have for yourself is what advice would you give for someone looking to get into European ? would you say jump straight to a HGV or would vans be a better place to start ? what's your pro's and con's to doing it working for someone else of running your own vehicle
Lots of questions! Firstly I just went straight to artics when I past my test, then when I started European work I was straight out with artic too, don’t see the point in going with a van, unless you already have a job doing it. To get any job it’s a case of replying to ad’s or knocking on doors I’m afraid. There’s lots of pro’s & con’s to being self employed. You make your own decisions. You choose what work you do. You choose when you work. You choose what lorry you buy. You get to see the whole picture. You enjoy the buzz, that you never switch off. but If you don’t work, you don’t get paid. No holiday money. You have to find work. You are responsible for all tax etc. You do invoicing. You chase debts. You are responsible for up keep of equipment. The buck stops with you when a job goes wrong. You never switch off. And that’s just a few things.
@@GBtrucklady Thanks for the reply some good tips i used to do long distance sameday stuff in a van always dreamed of driving abroad doing the it but covid happened i ended up selling my van and been looking at getting back into it but quite nervous about taking a class 1 over water as seen on some videos it can be quite rural and tight in places so my thinking was that be good to learn in a van regards to ferrys/tunnel paper wrok customs etc
@Joe-bj9qr If you take your test, unfortunately the biggest problem you will have is getting experience. Most firms want at least 2 years experience. There seems alot of new drivers struggling to get work because of lack of experience but they can’t get experience if no one gives them a chance, it’s a vicious circle I’m afraid.
@@GBtrucklady I do hold a class 1 had it for 18months or so not had many issues getting work locally but I live on a farm so working away for 2 weeks then home for 2/3 days then away again isn’t a option for me unfortunately so hence the thinking of a van to begin with see if I actually like it abroad (I have driven abroad for holidays 1000% loved it ) diffrent ball game when your working doing it though with the customs etc and possibly look at a unit of my own further down the line like you said pick your work etc
Germany has its fair share of potholes too i see Shiralynn, have been to my German friendsxwedding in Kelkheim not far frim Drankfurt and have also had a,weekend in Berlin, English is therex2nd language there . Count me in for your next vid, take care
Hello , Did Johnno show You how to Tarp a load , very old school , talking about Trucks/Lorries , I always think of a rigid vehicle , articulated truck is a Semi , and articulated truck with more than 1 trailer , a road train , but who is right ????? , Cheers
No John only tarps when he has too! 😂 but my brother showed me many years ago, although I’ve not done it for years so I’m sure it wouldn’t look the best. My boss is very good at it and his young sons are brilliant but they do it week in week out.
From one former lorry driver to you who's still enjoying the life, I have just one thing to ask....... Do you still chuckle at the German "Exit" signs?
It's new generation 😂😂 ,my old man was a Lorry Driver, and myself. if I had left something in the cab, I sometimes say I've left it in the Wagon 😂. now my son, he's a Truck driver. We must be showing are age lol. PS. love the videos.
@carelfreijters4406 Yes there’s a lot of room but the space is not utilised well. There is only 3 cupboards, 1 large with microwave in, 2 small ones in the roof corners where the spotlights are so the back of the spotlights make the cupboards half sized. There is no option when buying vehicle new to have cupboards in the back, you can only have top bunk.
why are the roads shinny whats that wet stuff .when i get to the P&O box at 1pm and she gives me a ticket saying 5.30pm.i always drive to the queue thats loading and squeze on at 1 pm ive only been refused twice . saves me hours .And i lived in fussen and garmische p and i worked in Neuschwanstein schloss 4 times .lkw is a waggon. pkw is a small van 7.5. A spuler is a kitchen assistant . A schwooler is a rent boy .i spent 3 months telling people i was a schwooler in garmisch
🤦♂️🤷♂️🇫🇷 them TOTEM POLES and THOSE ROUND BALLS plus THEY HAVE TRIANGLES and all DIFFERENT colours 👍🤦♂️🤷♂️. THEY R SO U DONT LOOSE CONSENTRATION on the roads at DUSK ( know that SINCE THE 1980S 🤦♂️🤷♂️👍👍👍👍 ). safe travels now YOUR BACK from AUSTRALIA. all my family is in ADELAIDE and KANGAROO ISLAND ❤👍😍. Been 4 times between 2017 And 2020 ❤😍👍. it's a beautiful country. ❤👍😍
yes that happens to me too, rental car from Brussels Airport to Aachen and at the border at the time they were controlling the border and the police spoke to me in his broken English and didn't want to understand where I'm going to, eventually he found out I could speak German, he said, why don't you say you can speak German,. I replied, you didn't ask, and your English needs brushing up.at the end it doesn't matter, truck, lorry driver, in Germany you're a bad LKW Fahrer.
Another interesting video Sherralin. How pathetic people have been "correcting" what you call your "work vehicle". As you quite rightly said 👍you drive your "lorry" and each country has their own name for their lorry. People need to learn to be more tolerant and not so critical. I wish you happy and safe travels in your lorry Sherralin. Best wishes, Gail, Czech Republic ❤️
37:48 LKW stands for Last Kraft Wagen, a bit like HGV Heavy Goods Vehicle in England 😊 LastKraftWagen, don't try to say in English haha, this wouldn't be correct.
Hi Sherralin nice to see you are back from Australia. Just one thing i did notice about your trip? not nit picking lol , Buy why do companys run mismatched outfits ? i could / would not let a vehicle out of the yard looking like that, but then againg i have pride in what i do. That trailer was at least a foot if not more out of alignment ffs.Had it got an air problem ? if not it looks like a pikey setup lol, All My vehicles run level ( there is a good reason for that ) i even check trailers with spirit level from time to time lol, its easy to readjust air suspension if you know what you are doing, I wonder what the Germans thought of it lol? some micky mouse English Operator over here maybe, With your professionalism in euro work surly then can give you the right equipement to do the job with ? What i will say you are to Good to work for that unprofessional outfit thats for sure. (As i said Not Nit picking, but i don`t think a blind man would be glad to see that serup )
Bang! Back to reality! How did you cope with the sudden change in temp? Mr Nesh ere. I would be still stuck to a hot radiator with a hot water bottle! To Mr Pedantic sub; I am 65, my dad described himself as a wagon dvr, I described him as a lorry dvr. Nowadays they call themselves truckdrivers. Language, like vehs, just rolls on.
😂😂 I must admit it was a bit chilly when I got off the plane in Birmingham in my shorts! And to make it worse, I put my jumper down in Dubai somewhere 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Welcome back, there are no grey areas when driving in Germany. You are either right or wrong. x
Totally agree 😁

Great video as usual really good info too

Amazing looking at other parts of the world seems very busy at the border. How long are you away for each trip. Very interesting cheers

Love the tips and details in this video , The world would be very boring if we all used the same description for everything and all vehicle's, i know folks are trying to be helpful when I'm securing loads maybe it's weird i have to go to a quiet corner in the yard and work by myself, keep safe.
😂 I know exactly what you mean 😁
Nice to see you traveling to Augsburg. The buildings near the Bahnpark (a railway museum) you commented on are all quite old. Mostly late 1800s. Know the city well as some of my family live there though I’m U.K. born and bred.
Thanks for the info.

hi , welcome home. Totally agree about Germany go there every year. Changing the subject ,whats the history of your unit ,I noticed it was issued with Edinburgh plates. Keep the vids coming.
Hi, thank you.
Sorry I don’t know much about the lorry, I know who had it before this company but I think it’s a midland firm.
Thank you. Doesn’t some of Canada speak French? So do they still call it truck or camion? 🤔
@@GBtrucklady That's a good question. Quebec is a big french speaking province though a few of the small provinces like New Brunswick also speak some french. I would imagine they say Camion over truck being its a french word.
😁👍🏻
The taco looks like a casio from the 1990's. Nice trip 👍
😂🤣😂 Thank you
ooh how i miss that times, 2005 to 09 every 2 weeks Friday after work at dover around 9 pm on the ferry to Dunkirk and arrive in Aachen Germany around 4am visit friends and family and 2pm head out back to Southampton, was always a great time. but now no more just driving east coast Ca to west coast US and back. but safe travels in GB and D
I’m thinking it would be a bit warmer in California than Germany though 😂😁
Good to see you back in EU . Nice video good to see germany again . Thanks Sherralin
Thank you 😁
Great video it's just today I came across your channel am a new member in the house 🏡🎉🎉🎉
Yay! Welcome 😁 Hope you enjoy the adventures. 😁
@@GBtrucklady yes I did and am going through some of your videos, good job 👏
Hi just joined your channal , I did enjoy it but the Americans call their Trucks (Semi's ) . I am also a UK truck driver . Keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing some more of your Channal . Drive Safe
Thanks for subscribing. You might find some of the past videos interesting too 😁
Welcome back to the lovely EU Sherralin, once again thoroughly enjoyed that trip to Germany with you, a bit of a change for you. Spain next? Missing the Volvo comfort yet? (Haha)
Thank you. I’m happy with the Scania 😀
I think the buildings on the right after border control, I'd park on the left and do my customs stuff in there, Ashford wasn't in existence.
Note how the tree trunks are planted
in dead straight lines !
Not a bonnetted conventional prime mover (Australian here) in sight! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Good to see you back at it, enjoyed the Aus vids too. What was you carrying over to Germany, if you can say roughly? Thanks
Thank you. 😁 Sorry no.
👋 hola.....welcome home....😊
Hola 👋🏻 thank you 😁
When I went in there I've never seen so many orange jackets sat around doing f all! What a waste of money!
The German autohof’s are now charging to park but giving you the same amount off your food.
merci pour le beau reportage, c'est un réel plaisir de vous suivre sur les routes UK France Germany,
Thank you. 😁
Great video thanks for sharing it. Just a quick question when you get onto the boat, what tacho mode do you use please.
Thank you. It goes on break. 😁
They have moved the Garmisch show to Berlin now not the same.
Oh no! Garmish is a stunning place. 😩
WELCOME HOME
😁 Thank you
Just came across your videos enjoyed the watch!
You enjoy the buzz, that you never switch off.
but
If you don’t work, you don’t get paid.
@Joe-bj9qr Oh I see where you’re coming from. Well I hope it works out for you. Maybe see you on the road sometime 😁

😂😂🤣
It's new generation 😂😂 ,my old man was a Lorry Driver, and myself. if I had left something in the cab, I sometimes say I've left it in the Wagon 😂. now my son, he's a Truck driver. We must be showing are age lol.
PS. love the videos.
Thanks for watching 😁
Reading the comments it seems more of a geographical thing. My Welsh friend is in her 20’s and calls it a wagon too.
Hai Lorry
Hi, thanks for watching. At the moment I’m driving a 530 DAF xg+
@GBtrucklady hoe vind je deze ? Je heb veel cabineruimte , veel rijplezier en veilige kilometers
Back in the day it was common to call them wagons also.
My Welsh friend still calls them wagons too 😁
Larry UK, LKV=Last Kraft Wagen Germani, Lastbil Danish

Sevington a horible inefficient place!
yes that happens to me too, rental car from Brussels Airport to Aachen and at the border at the time they were controlling the border and the police spoke to me in his broken English and didn't want to understand where I'm going to, eventually he found out I could speak German, he said, why don't you say you can speak German,. I replied, you didn't ask, and your English needs brushing up.at the end it doesn't matter, truck, lorry driver, in Germany you're a bad LKW Fahrer.
😂😂👍🏻
Another interesting video Sherralin. How pathetic people have been "correcting" what you call your "work vehicle". As you quite rightly said 👍you drive your "lorry" and each country has their own name for their lorry. People need to learn to be more tolerant and not so critical. I wish you happy and safe travels in your lorry Sherralin. Best wishes, Gail, Czech Republic ❤️
Thank you 😁🤗
The big trucks in the usa is a semi truck and smaller trucks with the box is a boxtruck but its no offense thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the info 😁
LKW-Fahrer......lorry driver in Germany 😊
Thank you 😁
37:48 LKW stands for Last Kraft Wagen, a bit like HGV Heavy Goods Vehicle in England 😊
LastKraftWagen, don't try to say in English haha, this wouldn't be correct.
Thanks for the info 😁
@@GBtrucklady your welcome
Thanks for taking time to comment and share your opinion. Enjoy the rest of your day. 😁
Youre back in the UK? So, you flunked out of road train school?
Dang it.

😂😂 Gives me an excuse to go again! 😁👍🏻
