Honda has a recall for this engine (2017-2018 I believe) where they say the belt tensioner is the culprit behind the belt degradation, so it is nice to see that your kit included a brand new tensioner
This engine fitted to one vehicle the mk10 civic. Honda have stood by their product and covered the majority of repairs on these engines outside of warranty regardless of shoddy service histories. Its worth noting that all the belts that I've done on these that have been serviced correctly there is zero belt debris in the gauzes.
Honestly, even though I have the FK8 for the last few years I maintain it in line with the recommendations service intervals and runs fine. This look like it's been poorly maintained. A car is only as good as you maintain it at the end of the day.
Wet belts sure are notorious and Honda moving away from them is a sign they agree. They shouldn’t have used them in the first place. I’m not buying a 1l civic for this single reason.
Thats a fair bit of oil discolouration inside that engine, my '99 Accord V6 is quite a bit cleaner than that. Anyway, excellent standard of work and attitude.
LOL I play with 2k and older cars/trucks and didn't know of "wet belt" systems. Such an introduction of a premature failure from previous dry belt designs. And potentially destroy your engine from oil starvation. PERFECT hahaha
Old Peugeot 505 diesel had a wet belt for the injection pump. They never have any problems either. But the belt is a completely different material, it's transparent.
You are a Master of your Art - and just shows how needlessly complicated and expensive the modern engine is. Once it is out of warranty, it is someone else's problem (and your mortgage payment I guess).
Back to basics i think. I'm going to upgrade my car this month, but may go back to a old car. You guy's are great pitty all garages are not. Well done you lot.
Thank goodness they don’t sell this engine here in the states. The only Honda engine they sell here are the K-series, J-series V6, the L-series, & R-series. All of which do not have a wet-belt system… thank goodness.
Global quality has gone down before like now and all boats move up and down together. So if we are in an era now of shit quality its still better to stick to the better shit quality. 😂
@d.p.9567 At least honda have ditched this engine now meanwhile ford and stelantis cars are still coming with wet belts ford changed to timing chain but still a wet oil pump belt so still the same issues will eventually happen just a smaller belt so it will be slightly better all for saving pennies or 0.0000001mpg/0.0000001g co2
What because one of their engines happened to be wet belt driven. It’s still the best of its type! Non of there other engines depliy this system. So stop being so accusatory and premature in your condemnation!

Good video, good methods in general for new engine maintenance, the only thing I don’t agree with is the use of the wire wheel on an open valve train. High risk of contamination.
We are back to the days where cars don’t last 100,000 miles anymore. The amount of carbon these late model engines have is what it was like in the pre PCV valve days when engines used a simple road draft tube to ventilate vapors from the engine. One of those things that worked in theory, but made more of a mess since the blow-by gases would react with the oil creating lots of sludge, ultimately led to oil starvation at 50,000 to 75,000 miles.

Well done. I remember when i was this good at my job, but it was 35 years ago :)
Nobody likes a big car repair bill but if you saw a video of this chap working on your car and using the parts he uses it would somehow make it a bit easier to live with, excellent work.
Great watch, keep them coming
I enjoyed this video, your a top man. Great knowledge and thanks for explaining things in great detail, why you do this and why you do that. Very informative.👍👍👍
Thank you for watching 😊👍
Honda has a recall for this engine (2017-2018 I believe) where they say the belt tensioner is the culprit behind the belt degradation, so it is nice to see that your kit included a brand new tensioner
This video was awesome dude
Thank you 😊👍
This engine fitted to one vehicle the mk10 civic.
@@Casper-dl2runot buying a 1.5 earthdreams Honda either due to all the headgasket failures also... Plenty of these failing too..
@@alstirling69I don’t think so! Where’s your evidence. Hi and buy a piece of French/Getman or Morean crap then you’ll know what crap engineering is….
I would let this guy work on my accord. Great job and explanation.
Thats a fair bit of oil discolouration inside that engine, my '99 Accord V6 is quite a bit cleaner than that.
Anyway, excellent standard of work and attitude.
amazing job, thanks for the video
Thank you for watching😊👍
Incredible mechanic! Sad to see this Honda need so much work at 75k! Crazy!
Don’t be so harsh on the car, definitely a lack of maintenance here. Look after it or pay later!
If you bothered to listen you’d hear it was a result of little/no maintenance you idiot!
Brilliant video/tutorial.
great work watching some one who knows his stuff 👍👍
Thank you 😊👍
Some new info for me, tnx guys! Keep up the good work!
Thank you 😊👍
Good job!!!🙌🙌🙌I thought the head gasket was broken but I was wrong!!! 😅 Happy Holidays!!!🎄🎊🎉
Thank you 😊 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎄
YOU ARE MY GUY LOVED THIS, SUBBED
Thank you 😊👍
LOL I play with 2k and older cars/trucks and didn't know of "wet belt" systems.
Awesome video, even as a non mechanic it was really interesting.
Thank you for watching 😊👍
really great video
Thank you 😊👍
You are a Master of your Art - and just shows how needlessly complicated and expensive the modern engine is. Once it is out of warranty, it is someone else's problem (and your mortgage payment I guess).
Seeing similar comments about why Honda also use a wet belt. Knew Stellantis and Ford did, another engine to avoid!
Great stuff, well done.
Thank you 😊👍
Great video ,so pleased i drive a 22 years old jazz
Love seeing the Launch scan tool. Makes me feel better about dropping a little money on mine.
Looks like that car was well serviced, once!
Back to basics i think. I'm going to upgrade my car this month, but may go back to a old car. You guy's are great pitty all garages are not.
Well done you lot.
Thank you 😊👍
Premium Job, excellent. 😊
Thank you 😊👍
Welcome 🙏
Ohhh but everybody gives crap to ford for a wet belt when we all know they arent the only manufacturer who uses it. Great video friend.
Brilliant video , shame honda went down this road , well done car edition top work 👍
Thank you 😊👍
Happy with my freshly rebuild 91 crx
watching this was great
Thank you for watching😊👍
If you could fill a garage with guys that work like this, it'd be the best in the country. As rare as hens teeth unfortunately. Excellent work.
Thank goodness they don’t sell this engine here in the states. The only Honda engine they sell here are the K-series, J-series V6, the L-series, & R-series. All of which do not have a wet-belt system… thank goodness.
Honda have really slipped down the league for quality.
An exact copy of the ecoboost it even comes with the same 125ps/123hp power
HONDA RT TECH HERE:
I NOTICED YOU DIDN’T SHOW THE OIL FEED PIPE CLEAN OR REMOVAL, THIS IS A MAJOR MUST!!! THIS HAS A FILTER IN THE LOWER SECTION OF THE PIPE THAT BLOCKS WITH RUBBER AND KILLS THE TURBO.
PLZ PLZ PLZ
Get that car back and get that filter checked. Otherwise turbo will go bye bye
*Its in the 90* part on the block where it bolts up. Can remove the exhaust support and undo and pull from bottom.
👌🏻✌🏻
Thank you for your message 😊 we replaced both, oil return and feed pipe 👍
Alright buddy we has are belt done on recall we drop the oil 2 times a year could you tell me is worth taking the sump of to clean that filter inside is there any way of cleaning the turbo uptake one with out stripping it all down don't have a lifts only on the drive
@@Richard-f2z take exhaust support bracket off, undo 10mm and gently bend it out. Filters tiny round can pull out with a pick
@ 🙏
@msc_uk cheers for your reply thanks so just mainly do the turbo little filter and leave the sump filter till next belt change just ease out the turbo intake slitly and hopefully I can pinch it out hopefully know since I'm picking up these little tips we can make it to the last of the petrol s until we forced we still pay for honda warranty we have to let them service it once a year we do the other service at home so this is when I'm going to take the turbo uptake this summer the civic is not bad drive sticks to road family of 3 kids and dog we get in fine. Thanks again @msc_uk
It good to see the Younger generation mechanics who don’t just Bolt on new parts 😂
I need that silicon looks easily applied 👌
Awesome video 🙌🙌👍👌😀🍀🍀🍀💪
Thank you 😊👍
Good video, good methods in general for new engine maintenance, the only thing I don’t agree with is the use of the wire wheel on an open valve train.
I have this car with same engine, 165000km and everything works fine😊
I just adjusted the rocker arms of my Honda Jazz GD 1 yesterday coincident , it has 183k miles on it. I checked the intake valves, all super clean. indirect injection is my bet, I avoid direct injection, I dont care go slow lol. good video thanks
