No one.....sounded like Rick James...... a true Leader in music and a genius who worked very hard in rock and roll and sprouted into the Funk! His honesty is very very touching he was humbled by the crazy experience.
it was good to see Rick Sober and doing well. Sadly a little over a year after this aired, Rick suffered a stroke and he was never really the same after that. He worked hard to come back.
Man there was nothing like a Rick James, Teena Marie, Stone City Band show. I don’t remember how many times I have seen him. But I had the most fun. See back then in DC @ RFK Stadium (43,500) & Capital Center (38,000) festival seating you could seat anywhere & Fire 🔥 it Up. There were no metal detectors, metal wands or body searches. People knew how to act back then. It was so smoky in there that every single person would have to be arrested it was flowing like that. It was Peaceful & Funky. Some of the fondness memories of my young life. Thank You 👑 Rick James ❣️🙏🏽😔🥰
"I'm Rick James B****!" He truly was very talented, rude, disrespectful, foul mouth, no holes barred type of entertainer who's music is going to be awesome for many years to come.
Rick was one of my best friends... He literally took care of me and taught me the Bible .. I was on drugs I thought it would be sac religious but he said baby girl God knew you were going to do drugs today, he still loves you... would you rather talk about God when your high or let the devil and all the evil in! Then there was his mischievous side from his house on Laurel Cyn and Muholland ( Mickey Rooney's old house) I heard then after he got out of Folsem Prison he gained so much weight .. he lived in Thousand Oaks Estates.. he ended dying at THE OAKWOOD APARTMENTS IN BURBANK! I HATE THE FUCKIN OAKWOODS IVE LOST SO MANY PEOPLE AT THAT PLACE!
ok why do I continue to see Dave Chapelle now when I see the real Rick JAMES. it's scary when someone can imitate you to the point they out do you being you.
once again I am shocked I never knew this video existed, the only other person I listen to as much as rick is Bobby and I never knew they performed together , Thank B Taylor
Wow, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this. All 3 performances and the interview. This man was unbelievably talented. God bless Rick James for giving us the funk. I don't know why I never paid attention to the song with Bobby Womack. It's dope! Probably cuz I was much younger. Aww, wish Rick was still around to receive his flowers. A true legend.
Wow! I remember watching this the night it aired in 97. It was really beautiful to see Rick James(The Original "Slick Rick" by the way) Come home and receive the love that he did from those who stayed true to him. Eddie Murphy. Keenan Ivory Wayans. Just to name a few. And believe me:You Are Truly Missed! RIH. My Brother! Peace!
Kevin Sadler: Wow! How could I Forget Ms.Teena Marie! And. The. BET Awards was there for him. Where He Performed His Last Show By The Way! O.K. Now U Feel Better!
Was there something missing in this or got cut out? I vaguely remember seeing this years back and I feel like there was a huge chunk of the interview left out in this video. Maybe it’s just me?
I love how honest and humble he is.i don't care bout his personal life he was a great musician ,producer, composer and he made great songs. I love Fire and Desire and Teach Me Rick James was true to the game.
I wish he wld of Signed to DeathRow like how Val Young and Unc Charlie did they wld promoted it like hell.Along with Tupac and Snoop still there paying homage too the old skool
One of the trumpet players is playing that small trumpet that is sooo cool!! I noticed the camera kept cutting to him lols as Rick use to say, "HORNS, BLOW!!!"
The might be a piccolo trumpet... they're (piccolo's) prevalent in some instruments (Bass, flute etc...). They have a unique sound. And Amusing to see for sure.
I miss u Rick an teena Marie rip in heaven rip stands for replacement isn't possible never with Rick and teena NEVER🇱🇷🇯🇲🇱🇷🇯🇲🇱🇷🇯🇲🇱🇷🇯🇲🐻🐻🐻🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲❤❤❤💞💞💞💞💞🐻🐻🍺🍻🍺
Rick James is the OG slick Rick. By the way, I love the all female in-house band. I mean that was in 1997 before that bullshit "WOKE FEMINIST RAH RAH!" social medias wave. Why doesn't Keenan Ivory Wayans get prop for that by those twitter feminists?
Keenan’s curl looked good. The Wayans were always clowning the curl. Must be a New York thing to hate on it. Rick was awesome. He looked and sounded great.
Rick James was before his time! He not only be well except today.! He also would be looked at as whatever they call normal. So he paved the way for what is acceptable today for entertainers! Wearing braids, and getting high as hell.! He's one that put smoking weed on the map back in the day...! And didn't hide it.!
I always liked it better when he was on the keys performing this He would go into a solo that was fire. Then go right into Fire it up!. Rip bro. we'll meet again
B. Taylor, I told you in other videos that you posted that I'm a Rick James junkie. Got to have a daily fill of Rick. Thanks for feeding me what I need. It's not a want. It's a need. L.L. Rick James. Do you ever think they will put Live in Long Beach on DVD?
Keenan Wayans is so underated still in a class of his own with comedy from 26 years old that still resignate right now... In 1997 Had a talk show thats a hybrid of comedy, skits, interviews , live music performance, and music this hasnt been matched yet
I only know the face behind the many songs I grew up with thanks to Dave Chapelle. I cannot believe how much other artists were hyped while RJ funk was heard everywhere. You can see all who came after were inspired by this mans music. RIP, mr. Rick James.
Ah yes. Back when comedy was actually very funny and totally enjoyable. I miss those days. Rick man, I would have loved to party with him, but I don't know if I would have been up to it.
No one.....sounded like Rick James...... a true Leader in music and a genius who worked very hard in rock and roll and sprouted into the Funk! His honesty is very very touching he was humbled by the crazy experience.
That bass is driving the whole tune. Salute to all soulful bass players.
it was good to see Rick Sober and doing well. Sadly a little over a year after this aired, Rick suffered a stroke and he was never really the same after that. He worked hard to come back.

I didn't know Keenan Ivory Wayans had his own show which, according to I.M.D.B., lasted only for twelve episodes.
