I used to drive Rick in my limo back in the 80's. It makes me sad to think of the delayed consequences of an excessive lifestyle. He was such an incredible musician and human being! Yes, he did stand on the trunk of my brand new stretch limo, like Charlie Murphy described he did to Eddie's sofa! LOL. RIP Rick...you left a lot of groupies behind without somebody to FREAK them!

Man I can really relate to this last year I spent 5 days in my house before my brother in law found me on the floor and I couldn't even talk. I really thought I'd die before anyone found me. My cell phone had died on me and not begin able to get up I couldn't even get up to plug it in. I spent all of last summer in the hospital. Had PT for 3 hours a day. Then they sent me to another hospital for more PT. I still haven't fully recovered from it. I'm still having to go through PT for the past 6 months. Still can feel a BIG difference. If someone were to ask me how far along I was I'd say about 80%. I had no idea it would take this long to recover. I how ever was blessed to meet Rick in person 2 years before he passed. I got to see him live twice in 2002. Once in NC and the second was in Philly got him to sign my Fire It Up album and Process and the Doo Rags album..........

He was a college educated man but also had street knowledge as well. My Dad lost his battle at age 46 on 2005 to high blood pressure, alcohol, gout, severe osteoarthritis, severe edema, an esphogaus that closed up twice, many knee and cancerous growths on his eyes and ribs but after he died the doctors said there wasn't any alcohol in his system. They said he died of dialated cardiomyopathy. Heart disease is the number one killer in African Americans.
