  • Welcome back to AAMC. For the next few weeks we're in Texas! My Uncle Tom lives here and we are going to be checking out some of his projects around the property while having a lot of fun.
    Today we're taking a look at his 1978 Ford F7000 truck with the CAT 3208 engine.
    Sit back, relax, and enjoy spending some time with this old jewel.
    Story of truck begins at 20:17

    Reminds me of my uncle from SW Mississippi. God rest his soul. Was an oil man too. I reckon Uncle Tommy has forgotten a lot more than most people will ever KNOW in their lifetime. Truly "the greatest generation". Thank you for sharing.

    Cool truck! Definitely have never seen one before, especially the crew cab. Cannot believe how rust free this truck is, here in Illinois these trucks are long gone(maybe an occasional fire truck). Never even the F7000 existed, much less with a 3208. Thanks for sharing!💪👍

      @markdanielczyk944 10 месяцев назад +1

      Question: why are they called dentsides?

    • @DanEBoyd
      @DanEBoyd 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@markdanielczyk944 Because of the inset cove running down the length of the body. Bumpsides have a bump along the side of the body, which sticks out.
      When I was a little kid, I thought they were the same truck.

      @@markdanielczyk944 I neglected to add that Bumpsides were produced here in the US from '67 till '72, and the Dentsides ran from '73 till '79.
      Bumpsides were produced into the '90s I believe, in South America.

    Very cool truck! Never seen a crew cab conventional Ford that large, though I did see what I suspect was a fire engine conversion C8000 in upstate NY done up as a work truck with crew cab. The big F-series trucks were tough, I had a 1969 F-600 and 1971 F-600 (old videos of them here on RUclips) that we ran for the five years we were in upstate NY. The '71 went to work on a farm near Binghamton, I don't know what eventually became of the '69.
    I helped drive a Bluebird bus from Poughkeepsie to Chicago and back twice, that is basically a F8000 chassis with a coach body on it. Lots of the chassis bits were Ford marked. It was 3208 powered, naturally aspirated, but had an Allison 4-speed automatic behind it. Top speed was around 63 MPH if it was flat. GVW was 33K IIRC. We had the fan pulley mount come off near Upper Sandusky, OH once. Fortunately it did not eat the radiator! Put it back together in a NAPA parking lot next to a grain elevator and finished driving in to Chicago.

    Your uncle put in some serious hours into that beast and it did justifiably as much work and she shows it. Glad to see it still chugging along after all these years, but her age is definitely showing. It would be amazing to give it a good refresher mechanically and get her welding systems up to new standard. It would be sick to see a company like Lincoln help sponsor it. Your uncle put in so much time, he deserves to see it back to its original glory.

    There was always an overlap in Ford’s truck lines between the LN600 and F600 and the F700/7000 and the LN700/7000. The LN7000 got the shorter LN8000 hood and a shorter turning radius in 1987.
