    Beautiful shoes! Congrats to your friend. I've bought 2 pair of used (very old) shell cordovan online and restored them. They look a hundred times better, but I've been slathering the cream on. I think that's maybe why they're dull and rough feeling at the end of the day. I will just brush for a while and use it more sparingly in the future. Thanks for the tips! Btw, I have an Indy hat and a polo leather jacket that looks similar to his, so now I'm going to have to find those shoes! Haha!

    Dear Preston, thanks a lot for your videos! I really enjoy watching them especially when I am stressed after a long day, it helps me relax a bit and concentrate on good things.
    I have a question, would be great if you could help. I've been recently trying to find out how to clean the insides of the leather dress shoes, but unfortunately unsuccessfully. Could you please advise? Is it ok to use saddle soap or any other standard cleaning solutions (e.g. liquid ones)? I am mostly interested in getting rid of stains that appear on the insoles after wearing the shoes for a while.
    And my second question is if it is ok to use saddle soap on shell cordovan shoes? Or would you rather suggest anything else?
    Thanks a lot! :)

    Recently I got new shoes for a wedding and the leather looked good and I was tight on time so I didn't treat the leather with anything. The day after the wedding there were a lot of creases and now I had to buy an expensive shoe tree and just maybe, with a lot of work, I'll get them looking new again.

    I am very inspired by you. A couple questions. Aside from Alan Edmonds, what brands should I be on the lookout for in thrift stores, have you done a comprehensive guide on how to shop those places?
    I am very broke and picked up a pair of Cole Haans to shine up. They look way better than they did but nothing like the shine you get. Granted I have only done acetone, moisturizer and a couple coats of Kiwi cream. What else should I try? (Remember super broke, lol)
    Thanks for getting me started! I am beginning to love shoes in a way I never thought I would and I have already gotten a few compliments on the Haans, which feels great.

    A pair of shell cordovan shoes sell at about $600 - $1500 new. I love shoes, but you could seriously go pick up a nice table saw and start making things for your house that your wife is going to love. You can still have a couple of hundred bucks to get a pair of Thursday boots ad then end of the whole shopping experience.

    • @TheElegantOxford
      @TheElegantOxford  3 года назад

      Hey, Lohengrinknight,
      If $600-$1500 is out of your budget or if it seems like that price is too steep, then I do not recommend you buy shoes at that price at all. But remember, high and low cost is relative and so is value. $1000 is a lot for some and not a lot for others.
      I don’t want to but another pair of Thursday boots, I already have a pair. I want shell cordovan so I will spend my money on what I value. You’re free to spend your money on whatever you value.

    • @lohengrinknight

      @@TheElegantOxford, I understand. This was not addressed to you, but an idea in general. If someone can spare the money to buy she'll cordovan and that's going to make them the happiest ever, by all means, go buy those shoes. I'm just thinking about what I can get out of the amount of money spent on either a pair of shoes or a table saw. I can spend the same amount of money, and the latter will give me more things in return in the end. I could buy shoes at that price, but I'd rather buy a tool that's going to generate me savings or income. But that's just me. If someone also has the money to pay for everything in their life, get the shell cordovan shoes, get the table saw, get the furniture you can make with it, take the wife to bora bora, and the like. Lol.

    I must take issue with something you stated about three minute into the video. You pointed out some white residue that might appear on the shoe and said it was just blooming and that if you had blooming then you had Cordovan . When I was a teenager more than 50 years ago I had several pairs of shoes that often exhibited this blooming effect. Let me assure you I have never owned a pair of Cordovan shoes. I asked our local cobbler about it when I was brining in a pair to be resoled . He explained that it was due to heavily perspiring feet and the salt content of that sweat. He advised me to always use wool socks and never to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. He also suggested I cut down on my salt consumption . I did as he suggested and rarely had the problem again.

    • @TheElegantOxford
      @TheElegantOxford  4 года назад +3

      You don’t have to brush for 15 minutes but it will look better if you do.
      Shell Cordovan is a status symbol at the end of the day. There’s only enough to make 1 pair of shoes per horse and are not as common as normal calf. It’s produced by Horween, a legendary tannery that’s been around for 100 years and it does not crease like calf does.
      Value is purely subjective here.

    They're super easy to maintain but I also have to spend 15 minutes brushing per shoe after each wear? Bruh

    Beautiful shoes, but Shell Cordovan is horse leather. Call it what it is and that’s where I draw the line. I would equally not wear dog leather shoes no matter how beautiful or stylish.
