Nothing beats the shine and depth of some shell. It's absolutely hypnotizing.
Hey, Mario! You are so right! Shell cordovan is awesome
@@TheElegantOxford Would you say the dark brown is the closest color for color 8?
Amen👞
I have become an expert at shining my shoes thanx to you and the coronavirus.I have a lot of time on my hands now to shine my shoes.
I really appreciated your comparison of Calf and Shell Cordovan to "Pizza and Ice Cream". You always have a way of describing how stunning how each shoe is in such a warm, down-to-earth, and inviting way. I think it also helps others who are just getting into shoes, shining, buying, and etc. to do so without the fear of snobbery and intimidation.
P.S. - Now every time I apply leather conditioner to a new pair of shoes, I chuckle at the thought of you saying "like water in a desert". Thank you for being so genuine with your viewers.
What a beautiful shine. The magic hands.
Thank you!
I have some Alden shell boots and I was a bit worried because the cap looks a little bit lighter than most of the shoe, now I know it’s perfectly normal, thanks , always learn something new and also very relaxing to watch your videos
That high quality leather creaking ASMR. So good 🥰
I learn so much from this channel. Every video there is something I find that I can improve myself on. Please keep posting these!
You're beginning to change how I feel about Shell! Beautiful shoes!
The AE is so tempting right now
interestingly, every shoe you shine turns out reddish at the end. this one started from a solid chocolate to now a slight color 8 appearance. 😃
It's a color 16 now lol
Wow, you do great work, you have a passion for this and you've shown me that I've a lot to learn in keeping my shoes up to par.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and sharing your knowledge.
Hey, Barry
Thank you for watching! I really appreciate it
Beautiful workmanship on that restoration! 😍
I did a part time gig as a finisher for a small shop that did journals and bags. We would occasionally get Cordovan (from Horween here in Chicago) and even Antelope leather from Europe. Both of those leathers are very expensive. Maybe up to 200 dollars or more a square foot. A pair of Allen Edmonds, as example, is about twice the price for the Cordovan pair. I have a Cordovan journal cover that was made for me by the company as a gift from a piece of scrap. The color is gorgeous. That leather generally has a rich, red wine color, and feels supple, smooth and durable.
Preston, each video is better and more informative than the previous. May you never stop changing the world one shine at a time! Bravo to your content! (ps - would you please add APO/FPO/DPO addresses to your website so us folks serving overseas can support you?)
Hey, J MK!
Thank you for your support. That’s coming soon so thank you for that recommendation. Stay safe out there
love brown shell .. it shades nicely.
I love my Shell Cordovan Boots. Definitely my favorite Boots in my collection. Great Video my friend. As always!

Superb job. You are a true craftsman and have a great attention to detail. Your videos are terrific. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Love the color on those
I was right. They look amazing!
Hey, Ted! Thank you so much!
Amazing transformation!!
Well done Preston😎🤘🏻
👍😍Absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you!! 💝
Nice one bro watching from 🇵🇭
It would be lovely if you can show us how to shine grain leather shoes😄 I suppose they require different treatments 🤔
i use the "Minyak Bubut" to make Mirror Shine.
Good for Skin & Good for Leather
Never heard of it but I’ll look into it

Beautiful and very good, thank you very much. I wish you health and safety greetings 💕💕💕💕💕
Great video as usual👏🏼 can’t wait for the next one! Hope you and the family are doing good, staying healthy and safe during these hard times.
Hey, Eli!
Thank you for watching. We are doing great here at home. Stay safe
Wow!! Another shine beautifully done Preston those look phenomenal . 😎👍🏼
Thank you, Frank!
Elegant shoes
Preston I would love to see a Shell video that compares a wax shine to a no wax shine. Also, the same for calf. Mirror shine vs a nice matte finish. There are situations that call for a dress shoe without mirror shine.
Preston that was great! This was a full Masterclass. Thank you very much. I noticed you didn't use the Saphir Reno'Mat to assit you removing the old wax in the shoe, was it because it was Cordovan leather?
It's quite amazing how you managed to transform the look of the shoes with just a regular polishing session, I mean with no dyes or anything other than wax and polish.
Also thank you for the link for that article of that Australian site.
Hey, Chato!
No Reno’Mat this time around, Shell is delicate so I decided against it. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you like the article.
You do amazing work. I just want to say thank you for these instructional videos. I've learned much from you.
Those shoes are just beautiful
This was awesome, thanks!
Great video as usual. My dream shoe is a shell cordovan wingtip blucher by Carmina. That particular shoe sold me on cordovan. That outdoor footage just solidified it. Amazing
Great choice! The shell Blucher by Carmina is an awesome choice
So lovely
A different approach from the regular calf skin but the results are the same. A great pair with beautiful patina.
Thank you!
Wow, they look awesome, have to try this with my own cordovans.
If succeed in letting it look half as good as these I would be delighted.
Hey, Jakob! They will looks awesome I’m sure
@@TheElegantOxford
Tried it, now they look awesome.
Wish you happy easter hollydays and stay safe
Wow! Speechless
Awesome stuff as always. Why did he choose not to use acetone or renomat this time?
Because those'll ruin the finish on shell cordovan.
Maybe u can add tutorial how to make wax and etc for us 😁
Perfect!!
Thanks 🙏
Wow! That color just looks awesome ! I am going for one ..
Hey, Amit! They are on sale right now on the Allen Edmonds website. Park Avenues in Dark Brown Shell Cordovan
The Elegant Oxford Thanks Preston!!
Another homerun, Preston! I’m glad you added the last step with applying wax. I always get streaks. I have two pairs of shell cordovans. I’m currently looking for a pair of 13E or 13 3E AE Cambridge. Again, great content! Looking forward to your next video.
He, Doc! Allen Edmonds just started their anniversary sale yesterday. You can get some Cambridge for a good discount. Hope this helps
The Elegant Oxford That’s right! I’ll check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
Pure perfection! 🔥
Thank you Jon!
I love your videos, they're very relaxing. My only concern is your hands. I can only imagine how tired they must get at the end of the day. I hope you're doing some kind of hand therapy between shines.
Hey K,
Don’t worry my wife takes care of me 😏
Love hearing that you can't live without 🍕 and 🍦. We're kindred spirits! 😂
To buff the mirror gloss wax what cloth were you using? Obviously it wasn't a t-shirt, was it?
Hey, Robert. You know I can’t live without either of those. I used a Shine Chamois by Saphir. Link to it is a description of the video if you want to see it.
love the new music! very relaxing! :) at 7:45
Thanks, Brian! I’m looking for more new stuff to implement
youre an artist!
Bro I’m looking at this shoe like it’s beautiful women!😍
Hi Preston - this is off topic, but congratulations on getting a shout-out on Justin Fitzpatrick's Shoe Snob Blog! Haha
Thank you SO much
Hello friend, I am a fan of your beautiful works. I would like to ask you a question, how can I only finish the shoe with an airbrush?
Magical!!!
Thank you, David
Lmao "hair second" coming from my man Preston
Same thoughts as others. It looked really bad at first, but get an expert involved and it's perfect again! It would have been a shame if the owner thought they were trashed and rid of them!
Hey, Jed! For sure man. I’m glad these were sent my way. Shell cordovan is truly awesome
Seen one shine seen them all
A horse is the provider of materials for this shoe? I was truly surprised and had no idea that beautiful horses were used for shoe leather. That will take some time to adjust to...
I know I’m sounding like an AE hater but they need up their stitch density on the soles! Looks like a Norwegian welt!!
I think this is the first video that Preston has done (that I recall) where he didn't mention the manufacturer (and model) of the shoes. Which shoes were these?
Wow, such a nice and unique color. Are these color8s (after a few days of sunbathe)?
I put my Florsheims to the sun for about 4-5 days and now they look very similar. (They were very purple color8s originally, such a surprising difference)
Hey, Attila
These are dark brown but have patina’d nicely over time
Beautiful. I’m always afraid to do that on my Shell.
Give it a try! You’ll love how they look
@@TheElegantOxford Exactly. I did the unthinkable and wore my first pair of C&J Cordovan shoes in the rain the first time out. I got spotting on the shoe, which is the wax. I decided to give them a good clean and was treated to a brown cloth. Apparently someone had tried to use pigmented shoe polish because the cordovan panels didn't match. The more I cleaned, the lighter the color of the shoes. Some wax on them and wow! Some of panels look almost like a fine brown metallic flake. Some like the bubbly crema on a fresh espresso pull. Some like powdered cinnamon.
One of the toe caps was darker, so I covered the rest of the shoe with a cloth and left it in a sunny window for the summer to get it to fade. A trick I learned from reading an article on Horween.
Bit of a novice here. How do you tell the difference between Shell Cordovan and regular calf leather? Thanks for the tutorials, they’re great.
Magnificent!
Thank you!
Hello,
Great finish add always.
Question about brushing, isn't there a machine you could use for brushing and make life easier and take less time? Or is it always elbow grease that had to be used?
Beautiful shoes. No alcohol in the clean uo? Shell cordovan demands a different polish regimen than cowhide, how so?
Bro tell me, what you use in more shine shoes, i appeciate your talent
Super cool 👍😎. Good job!
#suedeshoes
Thank you, Tim!
HI, PRESTON!!! W😲W, much better! Brown is not my favorite color, but these came out SO nice!!! Hope your little family is doing great? Preston, hope do you avoid getting the colored creme into the threading? And if it DOES get into the thread, how do you remove it? It can you? Like if your shoes have a contrasting thread? 🎩👞
Hey, Angela!
When shoes have contrast stitching, I try to use neutral cream and polish because once pigment gets on there, it’s hard to get off
@@TheElegantOxford DUH didn't think of that! That's why you're the Man!
would saddle soap have worked for cleaning up the old wax layer? I have some Meermins showing exactly that uneven dullness and cracking - pretty much right out of the factory
No, Saddlesoap might damage the finish further. I recommend using a heat gun and melting down any wax and wiping it off clean.
@@TheElegantOxford thank you!
Considering this is also a job for you, have you ever considered an electric polisher? I think your innate sense for calf and shell you'd never overdo it, and still achieve superior results.
Those don’t work unfortunately. Electric polishers are only useful for a basic brush shine.
Would you ever consider trying a western/cowboy boot?
These videos always make me want to try shell ! If I may ask for help.. Last year I bought a pair of double monks from Acemarks and they quickly became my favorite shoes. I recently decided they needed a good cleaning, so I used Reno'mat to clean them up... and ended up removing the factory finish of the color I wanted:/ Unfortunate, but medaille dior brought it back after some mixing of mahogany and medium brown. The difficulty comes with exposing a very dark brown spot that was hidden with factory finish (apparently common with the brand, sadly) that won't take a shine and is notably darker than the rest of the toe, looking very off putting. Any recommendations on what I can do to fix this?
You are the master of shine. Amazing job.
Does cordovan require any conditioning cream like renovateur?
Jasmeet S Bhogal not really, the leather is so fatty and conditioned you just need to brush to redistribute the oils. Maybe after a couple years I’d imagine
Hey, Jasmeet! You don’t need much but reaching a certified consensus about how to treat shell Cordovan is difficult to do.
I personally recommend using wax, popularly known as the Mac method as I showed in the video. Use cream on occasions when you need to cover go up scratches.
Saludos desde México!!!
What's the difference between Bickmore Bick 4 and Saphir Medaille d'Or Renovator? Both say cleaner and conditioner and I don't want to purchase both if they both perform the same function.
Welcome back hope all is safe healthy. Mr. Preston is it possible to use Saphir cream non cordovan to cordovan shoes? Just confused some Japanese videos I also asked said they use regular cream. Thanks
Hey, Jolly Pig!
I don’t recommend using normal calf cream polish or water because if some of the solvents and moisture get into the shell, it might cause littler bumps to appear. It can be annoying.
I stick to special cordovan cream or mirror gloss because it doesn’t have many solvents.
The Elegant Oxford very much obliged stay safe
What about polishing bones? Or are they just to reintroduce the oils of the leather?
Polishing bones are another great option to remove wrinkles.
Delicious.
😋😋😋
What BGM at the end of video? I find it very relaxing and kinda nostalgic. And fit well when you showcased the shoes
Hey! It’s by Jonny Easton. It’s called Auroa
@@TheElegantOxford Thanks for the reply. It's a good song, but feels different when you heard this without looking your shoes showcase :D Greetings from Indonesia
Nice job Preston!, under what circumstances would you then suggest shell over calf? And viceversa?, thanks
Hey, Alberto.
Shell is a bit more causal than formal but it looks fantastic with dark wash jeans and chinos.
As usual you started withouy Laces. But, just before putting the wax (6:36), we can't fail to notice laces back on shoes. Is there any specific reason to lace shoes before putting on the wax? 'coz if a shoes has nylon laces they tend to become waxy.
Is it not possible to use a solvent such as Renomat to remove the wax layers?
Do one have to use cedar wood shoe tree for every formal leather shoes when not in use or some common plastic shoe tree can go along?
I’m interested in the use of mirror gloss on the vamp section of these shoes. This is not recommended when shining calf as it cracks when the leather folds in this area. Do you feel that cordovan does not exhibit this characteristic?
How do you repair a cut or gouge on the toe of a shoe?
Why didn’t you acetone in this case, to remove the wax?
I have many different shoes that has various different leathers. Would the sapphire neutral color cream work for all color leathers in terms of shoe shine, or would I have to buy a cream for each shoe color that I have?
Hello, could I use saphir Pate de luxe gloss wax instead of high gloss wax which you are using?
if i use a lighter brown cordovan cream, will it lighten the color of my cigar brown cordovan leather a bit?
Wow
Excellent Information, Preston!! Love your videos! I do have a question. Just picked up some McAllister's on eBay. I don't think I've ever seen shell cordovan. These almost look like plastic. Could this be shell? Thanks!
Hey, Doug. It’s definitely possible but they could also be corrected grain/binder leather which is not high quality. Shell cordovan is rarely mislabeled. Are there any creases? Shell cordovan does not crease
Good to know. Definitely some creases across the vamp. Thanks for the info, Preston!!
So then it's not a good idea to use Acetone to remove wax on shell cordovan?
I wouldn’t personally recommend it
Ok so which is pizza and which is ice cream? :D. Thanks for helping us stay sane.
I love meat lovers and chocolate chip cookie dough
"Cristal clear"
Hey! I was wondering why you prefer stripping wax by hand, or with ethanol, as opposed to specialized products like saphir renomat, or just plain saddle soap? 😂 My polish is starting to get pretty thick!
I use all of them. I don’t usually use acetone unless I’m dyeing the shoe but most times now I use reno’mat.
@@TheElegantOxford Thank you!!! I'll be sure to keep your recommendation in mind in my experiments :')
Are you also Ty Knotts?
is this an Allen Edmonds Park Avenue in shell cordovan brown?
Yes it is! It just faded over time.
Why I watch you and others use water now don’t use water please come clean and state which is best? I’ve use rubbing alcohol and caused one of my truckers to turn dark at same time Sapir is tops 👍
Hello Preston would you consider using Renomat or Acetone on shell cordovan to get rid of several layers of old wax?
Hey, Frantz.
Renomat is an option but acetone may not be the best idea with Shell Cordovan.
I used W5 kitchen grease remover on my shell. Removed all the waxes and didn't ruin the shell. Highly recommend!
Preston how can I send you a pair for a project?
Was the brush you used after applying the shoe cream pig hair or horse hair
Hey Andrew. It was horse hair! Pig hair is very stiff and is best used to remove dust
