Can't wait to watch this spiraling descent of Nate growing increasingly disillusioned with the franchise, slowly losing his mind as the hours drone on. Oh wait, I just made it to his song. He's already lost it just minutes in.
I always find it weird that you seem so well put together, and everyone else in the room could pass for a drunken homeless lunatic. I respect that you can keep it so classy and so trashy at the same time.
I'm a little disappointed that you skipped over the lore reason why FF14 was remade to be better: Bahamut just blew up the old game and now we got the new game.
So for anyone curious about the lore of 14, I'm just going to comment it here so people can actually see it. Haven't beaten the entire game because holy crap, it's an MMO, but I've finished at least the first two expansions. Basically, the big plot is that Bahamut is a big bad motherfucker who wants to just wreck stuff and he keeps coming back, so stuff happens to speed up his return. Because in this world, Summons are also technically gods because when enough people pray to the same thing at the same time, it becomes real. So nobody really knows why Bahamut keeps coming back, but if enough bloodshed and stuff happens then it'll come back faster which does a bunch of stuff that I don't have time to get into. Long story short, the evil empire wants to bring Bahamut back to use as a fuel source, they win, and then a badass mage named Louisoix uses his powers to save a bunch of people along with your player characters from the original 14 before taking Bahamut on by himself by channeling Phoenix and becoming a primal before literally killing Bahamut with his fist. It's a freaking rad cutscene where the fight is revealed in a big raid chain in a later expansion, everyone should see it. So Bahamut destroys the old game and A Realm Reborn comes out, and it sucked but it was also cool. You just start up in one of the big towns based on your starting class and you get roped into joining the hero group called the Scions, which are a bunch of mostly pretty fun characters that go around fighting Primals because when a Primal is formed it screws up the environment because they drain the area of magic, so we have to shut down those believers and kill their gods because they need to solve their own problems and stuff, so there's a lot of political conflicts and information gathering about, say, why is Leviathan a thing? What does Leviathan do? How the fuck can we arrange things so we can fight a water dragon? Logistical stuff like that. Eventually, things start happening and it turns out the evil empire is back, they're called the Garleans and they want to cause summons to appear, so you fight more Primals and do a bunch of terrible fetch quests before you see that the Garleans have basically repaired The Ultima Weapon, which is an ancient war mech that has the power to eat Primals and become more powerful. It's fucking cool! After that, you need to get things together to fight Gaius and his big superweapon because you're the Warrior of Light and you're the only one who can do it. You've been chosen by a being named Hydaelyn and you get the ability to see things that happen in the past, which is super conveneint for some solid lore dumps at times. So you fight through Gaius's men, you fight the Ultima Weapon, and turns out Gaius is being controlled by this evil wizard in a black robe called an Ascian, and the Ascians are basically people who use the power of darkness and become so strong that they can just come back after being killed. Like Ascians look at normal death and they're like "Look at these bitches, you guys should just make a bunch of Primals so we can do our evil schemes and stuff." So you beat him, but he comes back later. The day is saved, friendship saves the world, etc. etc. And then you get some post-plot missions where turns out there's some political turmoil going on and you get swept up in it, so the leader of a country gets poisoned and the Scions are blamed for it, so everyone has to flee the country and it's super cool and interesting. Several characters seemingly die and it's all really neat. Then Heavensward happens. Following A Realm Reborn, everyone has to escape, so you, Alphanos, and Tataru flee north to Ishgard where everyone is busy fighting the dragons. This expansion is great, go play it. 14 is a good game. So your group goes to Ishgard and get refuge, but you quickly get roped into political matters because the head of the church is a crazy old man who wants to play mind games by helping the Ascians so he can betray them, and everyone is just like "You can't screw with those people, this is a terrible idea". But you keep going and you meet up with Iceheart, who is an enemy of the state that has been allying with the dragons and using her body to summon Shiva and all kinds of crazy shit. So Iceheart is like "Hey, help me negotiate for peace" and your group is like "You know what? Fair enough, take us to the dragons in charge of this war and we'll see what we can do". So your group goes on a really fun little adventure with Iceheart and Estinian, who is a dragon-hating Dragoon that carries a big evil Dragon eye in his pocket, dude's great. You get to the elder dragon Hraesvelgr and he's like: "Yeah, I fucked Shiva, what of it? It was great, we magically fused and everything. But hey, Iceheart? The Shiva you turn into isn't the real one, it's a fake, idiot! Do you even know what this war is about? Those Ishgardians stole my brother's eyes and used it to gain power, so we won't fully have revenge until every descendant of those people is dead! You mother-fuckers gotta pay for that shit! But hey, I'll be nice, if you can get my brother to stop then we can end this." So your group heads off to meet Hraesvelgr's brother, Nidhogg, and it goes even worse because Nidhogg just immediately tries to kill you, which is nuts because it means he has an eyeball and can see you, so Eistinien murders him and takes his other eye. Then your group goes back to Hraesvelgr, where it turns out Nidhogg lost both his eyes and then Hraesvelgr just gave him one of his own eyes so he could keep fighting. But he seems cool now, so you give Hraesvelgr his eye back and he's like "This sucks, but well, fair enough. Nidhogg was out of control, maybe there's hope after all." But before you can keep peace going, turns out the Garleans are back! And they're like "Hey, we're working with the Ascians again! Stop us or we're going to destroy Ishgard with our new super fortress!" And then the Ishgardian pope is like "Don't get involved, I'll handle this crap by becoming a Primal and doing what the Ascians want." Which means you have to get involved to stop him because that's not great. What this all leads to is that you go to the superweapon and beat the Garlean comander, and then the Ascians attack and you manage to BS some magical nonsense together to throw a crystal out as you kill him so he gets trapped into the Crystal, and the other Ascians are like "Oh shit, we can die now! But we'll be fine since you need these cheap tricks to do it." and you fight two of them that merge together. But then the pope guy appears and he brings out an effing massive sword with Nidhogg's other eye in the hilt and he uses it to become The Knights of the Round! Like he becomes the main Knight from the summon and his desciples become the other ones, and you fight them all at the same time, it's a super rad fight, great song, it's fucking cool. So you defeat him and Estinien gets the other eye, but then their power is too strong so Estinien just becomes Nidhogg and he's like "Hey, fuck you! This guy couldn't keep up with my hatred! Time to destroy Ishgard!" So you run off to stop him and Hraesvelgr fights Nidhogg for a bit, there's a cool Dragon fight, then Nidhogg wins but you go to fight him and he's using Estinien's body, it's playing the main theme of the expansion, you're dodging crazy attacks... just really sick boss fight happens. You beat him and then your group is like "I dunno, throw the eyes into the fucking lake! That should work!" So you do it and your names are cleared and everything. But then you get a bit further and it turns out that whole thing with the empire and the Garleans... that's still a big thing. So you go to a place that's like on the border, big plot happens, and the Garleans fuck up a city so badly that it summons a Primal and you have to activate the Omega Weapon to stop it. After that happens, you find a samurai washed up and they're like "Hey, the Garleans, right? I hate those guys, we should kick them out of my country." FF14: STORMBLOOD
@@meatykyun5981 Honestly, haven't beaten Stormblood or Shadowbringers yet. So far in Stormblood, you go to not-Japan, where the Garleans have taken over and it turns out the army there is being lead by a massive actual weeb who just saw a katana and was like "Yeah, I want to be all about these things now!" So you go to fight him and he wrecks you because the katana is the most powerful weapon ever invented. After that, you start journeying towards the empire, so you go to the land of dragon people and the Dragons are all like "Hey, you're nobody here, do a bunch of chores and beat the trial all our warriors go through." Also, maybe it's because I was playing a female character, but the head of the dragon people was like "Yeah, I don't want to fuck you because I want an 'etherial' beauty" and you get the option to be like "Well you try chasing sheap 'etherially' ", which is kind-of great. I got to the point where you beat the trial and some Garleans show up, so you just wreck them and all the dragon people are super impressed by how cool you are. Also, there's some crazy kimono woman with a pipe going around being super sadistic, so that's been fun.
One interesting thing about FF11 is that there's a metaplot about the shutdown of the servers. Playing the game more or less canonically pushes back the apocalypse, and you can push it back more by buying the expansions and continuing to play.
@@BreakBarrier the youtuber Just Stop posted a 3 hour video on Fairy Tail recently, so I it'd be cool if he could come on as a guest lecturer (though he's also around 16 or 17 so it'd be hard to organize something like that without waiting a year or 2).
I hope you guys improve the mic setup in the next lecture. I really enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts lecture and was really looking forward to this one, but hearing the audio get scuffed so often really hurt my enjoyment of this. :(
Side note for those of you who would like some background music to go along with this Lecture ruclips.net/video/PlfGch8mGhg/видео.html. That's the OST for FF7 running in at 4 Hours and 34 Minutes so that should fit in here near perfectly.
Yeah, but with Vocaloids the character is just a way of selling the voice, Aki didn't come with a voice. So it's kind of like trying to sell the first aircraft based on how it handles on the ground.
Oh the near-constant audio clipping hurts so bad. But the information being taught here hurts so good. Edit: At least the audio gets fixed after the first piss break.
53:18 one of my favourite parts of this whole lecture is how everyone starts singing in different keys, but through his sheer chad P O W E R Nate forces them into his key
Funny thing about the first Final Fantasy is that most games at the time ended with you saving the princess but in FF1 instead it was just a prologue that in a way increased the scale of things.
I don't think he'd ever give a One Piece lecture since he actively wants everyone alive to read One Piece, and giving the lecture would ruin the reading One Piece experience.
Holy crap, DEEPGROUND has been hinted at from the very first game! It's in the goddamn titles! Dinal Fantasy Einal Fantasy II Einal Fantasy III Pinal Fantasy IV Ginal Fantasy V Rinal Fantasy VI Oinal Fantasy VII Uinal Fantasy VIII Ninal Fantasy IX Dinal Fantasy X
I love it but my god munchie was annoying -_- but I think I felt it was Sea since I liked the thing so much and just wanted Nate to keep talking ! :D Waiting for season 2
Irvine does try to tell your party a few times about 3 times I think but it became awkward because they didn't remember and one time he was about to tell you and then you got whisked off to dream land. You'd only notice upon replaying the game and looking for it. I think when I re-played the game a few years later it was like HOLY shit he did try to tell us. When you first meet Irvine there's an awkward moment, it only makes sense within the context of the memories, but you'd think it was just bad/awkward writing if you didn't know about the memories. Same thing with the Edea thing when he choked on shooting her. Also this is somewhat complex but they do explain why Ultimecia wanted time compression, but only through optional dialogue with Odine, Edea, and Laguna, and then at the very end of the game after you beat Ultimecia and while you're fighting her, her dialogue while she fights you, there's a weird cut scene, and then after the credits. It's definitely complicated and the years since I have beat it make it even more fuzzy but basically Ultimecia was too powerful, her body was going to die because it couldn't handle her magic power. Dr Odine explains all this when you talk to him about the Sorceress Adel, and then Rinoa getting possesed in space. Odine actually made items for Adel to seal/control her magical power so that the magic wouldn't destroy her body. Adel's power was growing out of control because she was growing too powerful, Laguna would convince Odine to work against Adel and use this power to seal her entirely. The reason Adel was so powerful though was because she had forcefully possessed new/young sorceresses over centuries whereas Ultimecia was just born extremely powerful/gained so much power as a response to seed eradicating her people/fellow sorceresses. When sorceresses die they have the ability to transfer their consciousness and magical powers into another sorceress it's like an instinctual/traditional practice for them to retain and advance their magical knowledge. In a way it's sort of like fusion from DBZ how Nail can join Picollo but Picollo retains control and Nail sort of just becomes a background voice in his head and also gains his power/knowledge. The problem comes when you have an evil Sorceress like Adel who can can be an immortal tyrant by constantly possessing new sorceress' which is why they sealed her in space. Which is also why SEED was created by Laguna and his friend Cid (because Edea was slowly being possessed by Ultimecia and was aware of it, Ultimecia was so powerful she could project her consciousness into the past and temporarily control weak sorceresses. So seeds goal was to wipe out every last sorceress, that was their original mission, not mercenary work. SEED had wiped out every Sorceress except Ultimecia in the future/original timeline, they were basically like vampire hunters, Ultimecia isn't even necessarily a bad girl she was hunted down her whole life since she was a child that's why she hated SEED so much so she pretty much used her immense power to destroy SEED and her world, when you travel to her world you see this. So she realizes it's her time to die/ and she's in a dead world, but there's no sorceress' to pass her powers and consciousness into and she got greedy like ADEL because of her resentment and really didn't want to just be a voice/pass on her powers she wanted to physically possess another sorceresses body. She can temporarily project her conscious/will into other sorceress in the past because of her immense magic power but not permanently. So she wanted to use that window to manipulate the past sorceress' to compress time so that she can essentially travel to any point in time, possess Rinoa or another weak/new and easy to control sorceress and live forever. I think Adel was sealed/and too strong for her to posses. It gets confusing but basically YOU and Ellone had injured Ultimecia and fucked up her time compression plan. Ellone's power wasn't to change the past, she realizes she had misunderstood it, I think her real power is to change time by compressing it, which is why Ultimecia as Edea and also Adel wanted her. Adel was aware of Ultimecia and saw her as a rival/threat. Ellone compresses time but only for an instant so you can travel to the future and beat Ultimecia changing the current timeline. Ellone tries to compress time to bring you back but fucks up and drops you in the past, and Ultimecia weakened tags along. But because she is weakened and has little time/magic left Matron/Edea sympathizes with her and willingly takes her power and consciousness, Ultimecia doesn't have enough strength left to posses her or doesn't have the evil will/desire to so it's a peaceful transition like how Sorceresses were originally supposed to when they died of old age or whatever. But it seems that in another world/timeline that you are originally from Ultimecia had succeeded in defeating you and forcefully slowly possessed Edea over years. If you listen to Ultimecia's dialogue as you fight her, you realize that you've been in a time loop, she talks about how SEED destroyed her world/life and also how time is repeating. You see hints of this earlier when she summons Griever, your ring, despite meeting you for the first time. So basically by defeating her for the first time you were able to change the past/future, you broke the looping timeline/time compression by weakening Ultimecia and/or making her see the error of her ways through Edea's compassion for her weakened state. If you watch the cutscene after you beat Ultimecia and then after the credits it all sort of starts to make sense, how Squall broke the time loop by defeating her. The loop was like a nightmare for him. Or at least that's what is strongly hinted at as happening in the credits/post credits that Squall broke the timeline where Ultimecia succeeds and posseses Edea and instead Edea willingly absorbs a repentant/weakened Ultimecia. But there's always that doubt, did you really change history, or did you merely just re-enact the timeline again and Ultimecia possesed Edea. The post credits/celebrations seems to show that you resolved it. Sorry I know this was long, but I re-played the game a few years later when I wasn't a kid and pretty much talked to everyone multiple times really helped me make sense of the story line that I didn't fully grasp as a kid. Basically they explain everything but it's not obvious/buried in optional dialogue. Like the White Seed Ship, if I remember right they were SEEDS from the future, Ellaine had compressed time and sent them to the past to watch over her past self or something like that. But you wouldn't know that unless you talked to everyone multiple times/strung it together. I also think they led a failed assault on Ultimecia. Like I said it's been years, but they definitely do explain almost everything it's just convoluted/requires digging and connecting dots. Like Ellone was originally at the orphanage too, which is why Ultimecia possesed Edea, she wanted to manipulate ellone into compressing time for her. But the White Seeds/Laguna sheltered her before she could.
I get the impression that it's a recurring motif in the Final Fantasy series that the writers/the developers are very bad at communicating the ideas that have gone into each game.
I never got the impression that there was any consciousness transfer with the sorceress powers; the various sorceresses' possessions was the result of Ultimecia using Odine's machine that replicated Ellone's power. Not sure how much say the recipient of a sorceress's powers has in the transfer; I got the impression the transfer requires touch contact, and that Edea was willing (and mostly-dead Ultimecia wasn't in a position to argue* if she hadn't been) but never thought Adel offered Rinoa a choice, just that Adel was dying and Rinoa was within reach. Also worth noting: there was only ever one sorceress, but the sorceress can't die until she passes on her powers. Putting Adel on ice (in orbit!) should have ended the sorceress threat; then time wankery happened. * Okay, Ultimecia couldn't die if she didn't pass on her powers, so she could have kept moaning for help/release literally forever. But if Edea wasn't willing, the piteous yowling was about all Ultimecia had in her arsenal at that point. At least until one of the orphan girls ran into her. Also also: The White SEEDs weren't from the future; they were pre-NORG, pre-Garden SEEDs. Likely, NORG wouldn't have agreed to funding the Gardens without the White SEEDs as a proof-of-concept.
One of my favorite "theories" about FF8 that I am surprised you did not mention is the whole Rinoa is Ultimecia. The theory mostly relied on a couple of things, being that Ultimecia's Castle hangs over the spot Rinoa and Squall promised to meet one another. Additionally at some point in the game you are allowed to name the keychain Squall ggives to Rinoa. So building on this, when you fight Ultimecia she summons a GF named whatever you named this keychain. She has been junctioned so long with this GF (whom I presume she willed into existence as the strongest sorceress and lost her memories and sense of self also she gained immortality cause fuck it why not right?). The reason she wants to compress time is because in some timeline, Squall died and she wanted to reunite with him although she doesn't know exactly why or who he is anymore because of being Junctioned with the GF for many many years. I personally don't care if this has been debunked or not but god damn this theory made the end of the game so much more enjoyable on a replay. That is all, I hope you see this @BestGuyEver
Here's the lore on the FFXII logo. One may have noticed how wild and loose the art is in comparasson than it's counterparts. This is due to the fact it was painted hastily, approximately 10mins. The artist had already painted a refined version and was expecting the director to come and visit the studio to OK the work. During the director's drive over the artist decided to doodle the logo. When the director reached the studio he saw the more wild render and decided to take that on instead, it captured something far more exciting. Out there somewhere is the clean version, perhaps lost to time and obscurity.
I love the theory that Rinoa is Ultimecia. They look eerily similar & in the ending credits theres a picture of Rinoa with her face hallowed out. But anyways the theory is that Ultimecia is the version of Rinoa after Squall promised but never returned to the "Field of Flowers" in an alternate timeline.
44:04 "You have braved the bowels of Hell to reach me. But the hand of man, which deals in false justice and forsaken love, can never hope to defeat the lord master of Hell!"
"Noone cares about the story of FFXIV" uh my man you are mistaken. It's honestly one of the best ff stories to date, and as a side note the music is awesome
Still loved the vid lmao. I understand to someone who's never played it that it would be super confusing, but I think it does the game a bit of a disservice. I think the video might have gone on for about another hour if you did kek
I never knew the plot of Final Fantasy 1 was so convoluted and stupid. From this I learned that nothing happened to Final Fantasy, it was always like this.
Bill Volk Yeah, FF5. A warlock attained the power of the Void, waged war, lost, was sealed with some weapons, his soul fractured, merged with some tree. There's also interdimensional travel involved. Crazy shit.
"Who even cares about the story of FF14" Quite a lot actually! I think it's the only MMO in the market to actually put effort into its ongoing plotline, it gets genuinely good when the expansions roll in (they were still getting it down in the vanilla pack)
After hearing the story of FFV I now realize why Shadowbringers is the way it is. I never knew the “Warriors of Darkness” concept was used in the past.
5:02 Dragon Quest was actually released in May of 1986 in Japan, not early 1987. 6:23 Final Fantasy I first came out in America in 1989, not 1988. So far so good, though. If I notice more errors, I’ll point them out.
FFX spoilers, don't read this if you might still play it, it's honestly an amazing story: He kind of glossed over how the dreaming works in FFX, the summons are called aeons and the aeons are the dreams of the Fayth. The Fayth we know at the start of the game each sleeps in their own temple which is why Yuna has to travel to them all on her pilgrimage to get those aeons. She gets to the final summoning and the ghost Yunalesca tells her that she has to sacrifice one of her guardians, and they become a Fayth to summon the final aeon and defeat Sin. They find out later that Yu Yevon is a bad guy who lives inside sin, so when sin is destroyed he takes over the final aeon and in time that becomes the new sin. That's how Jecht became sin, he was Yuna's dad's guardian and sacrificed himself. So we don't actually know what previous sins looked like, they likely looked different and had different abilities, but it's never mentioned. This dream-magic thing that's going on is also what powers the fake Zanarkand that Tidus is from, because Zanarkand was destroyed a long time ago the people of Zanarkand became Fayth (not sure if they're actually called Fayth, but essentially) so they could dream up all of Zanarkand so it could live on. This is why Tidus had to disappear, he was a part of the dream Zanarkand, but all the Fayth had to sacrifice themselves in order to defeat Yu Yevon, and with no dreamers left to dream Tidus he disappeared. I've stilled glossed over a lot of cool stuff like the war between Bevelle and Zanarkand, Yu Yevon and the Yevon religion that mistakenly believes in him, and how the Yevon teaching of machina = bad ties into it all. The lore is actually fantastic in that game, and it's all actually explained in the game! Looking at you FFXIII.
I love this lecture I watched it more than 6 times after finding it 6 days ago it helps me sleep every time I cant sleep (not saying it’s boring but I like hearing stuff I like while falling asleep)
Yo I had this exact problem until I started listening to my favorite chill comfort streamer, KillerEmcee. His Frog Detective videos are my favorite. After that I moved on to his FF6 streams! ruclips.net/video/GYtfQ1LG1Ro/видео.html
Wow great video, and serious props for your thorough grasp on FFT's plot. I always just understood the broad strokes but could never fully grasp the intricacies. Although I did only play the original with terribly translated dialogue, never played WotL.
It's really not a spoiler relevant to the film at all until the final 5 seconds, in general knowing that would probably just give you some interesting context to maybe theorise a bit more while watching it (rather than getting that experience on the 2nd watch)

About Angeal and Zack, I think Angeal's presence makes sense though, and a lot of sense. If Cloud had only received the buster from Zack, would he not be questioning the sword's origin? Now if he believed himself to be Zack, he could mistake Zack for Angeal and just know where the sword came from anyways... Zack is Cloud's Angeal.
I just wanted to point out how genuinely amazing and inspiring the behind-the-scenes saga of the entire series is: A traditional Western style RPG made by a thoroughly Japanese team allows the creation of *the first JRPG* which itself is inspired by traditional Western style RPGs, which then goes on to be way more popular in the West than in the East, while the first mentioned game becomes an integral part of Japanese culture based primarily on its perceived uniqueness in the country due to its unrepentantly Western visual, musical, and dialogue beats, to the point that the company that created that game ends up having to buy out the company that created the game that became popular in the West so that both series can ultimately survive throughout all regions. Now that you know this, you can also realize how much sense Kingdom Hearts actually makes as a concept. ;D I am primarily an archivist when it comes to games, but I also try to be a historian. That's why I share summaries like this, it's important for me that the essentials of what happened can be presented in a way that people can appreciate and naturally remember without having to do a lot of studying or research.
@@Pwrplus5 That's what I was calling "A traditional Western style RPG made by a thoroughly Japanese team". The very first Dragon Quest was an RPG of Japanese origin, but as for genre it had more in common with Western RPGs at the time.
Your explanation of FF2 took me back to the hours of grinding…by literally just attacking myself and healing until everyone’s HP and MP were depleted, then resting at the inn
Re: why the it was called Final Fantasy, I went to a Q&A with Nobuo Uematsu last Summer and he seems to recall it as the company not doing so great so they thought it was the last game they'd ever make. I'm not sure if there's disagreement between the creators but I'm happy to go with that if it's from one of the horses' mouths. :)
FFI was released in America in 1990, that's why 2 and 3 never came over, the snes and ff4 were right around the corner. They actually were working on FF2 and 3, but just stopped and moved to 4. FFIX was still fully composed by Uematsu
I miss Spoony. I feel like he fell into drugs or something, but, drama aside, as much as I really want new content again I just hope he's alright at this point. Also ff9 is great.
Most people don't have the self control to use drugs effectively and that can happen. However if you find the right combination of drugs and meticulously adjust your dosages you can surpass your brains limiter and become truly enlightened. Its taken me 14 years of self experiments to master them and now I'm as close to being a living God as a human can be ;)
I'm glad ya'll made more of these. I watched the first four several times, and then waited for more. Then, I just recently stopped paying attention due to being busy, and I check back and suddenly there's five more. Can't wait to watch them all, I hope production on this series keeps going.
1. This is amazing. 2. Ultimecia wanted to achieve time compression because she was basically bullied for being a sorceress. She is the only one that would be able to exist in such a world. Well her and the Card Club apparently...
Love what you've got here, my only complaint is about the FFXIV section. The story of ARR in itself is pretty meh but I'm surprised you didn't touch on the fact that they found a way to canonically destroy the old game and make it fit with the lore. That's a pretty amazing part. Can't wait for more lectures
Final Fantasy 5 errata: Enuo lived a 1000 years ago, wielded the power of the Void and was eventually consumed by it (with help from the 12 weapons). The Crystals (and the World) were split, so that the Void could be sealed between the worlds (the Interdimensional Rift). Exdeath has no direct connection to Enuo (or his soul), but was instead birthed from random evil spirits and such. The Warriors of Dawn fight Exdeath in "World 2" and decide to seal him in "World 1" with the power of the Crystals. Once the "World 1" Crystals break, Exdeath's seal is broken. Exdeath then breaks the Crystals of "World 2" to merge the worlds back together. He thus gains access to the Interdimensional Rift where the Void is sealed, becoming much like his senpai Enuo.
Absolutely great but could be better if some of the characters, scenes, weapons or art you reference in the video poped up in the screen as you reference them.

Several hours long lecture on a video game series I've literally never played or have any interest in? Hell yeah!
AnvilPro100 it's not too late
You'll be able to finish the games before the lecture is over.
Actually I've never played any of the games either but I am interested in them so half same I guess
Derek Walter Yeah. It helps that all of the main numbered titles are self contained too.
Go find one you like and play it. They're fun.
I'm a little disappointed that you skipped over the lore reason why FF14 was remade to be better: Bahamut just blew up the old game and now we got the new game.
HavocPioneer
In a glorious cut scene none the less.
You get to the elder dragon Hraesvelgr and he's like:
"Yeah, I fucked Shiva, what of it? It was great, we magically fused and everything. But hey, Iceheart? The Shiva you turn into isn't the real one, it's a fake, idiot! Do you even know what this war is about? Those Ishgardians stole my brother's eyes and used it to gain power, so we won't fully have revenge until every descendant of those people is dead! You mother-fuckers gotta pay for that shit! But hey, I'll be nice, if you can get my brother to stop then we can end this."
So your group heads off to meet Hraesvelgr's brother, Nidhogg, and it goes even worse because Nidhogg just immediately tries to kill you, which is nuts because it means he has an eyeball and can see you, so Eistinien murders him and takes his other eye.
Time to destroy Ishgard!"
So you run off to stop him and Hraesvelgr fights Nidhogg for a bit, there's a cool Dragon fight, then Nidhogg wins but you go to fight him and he's using Estinien's body, it's playing the main theme of the expansion, you're dodging crazy attacks... just really sick boss fight happens. I hate those guys, we should kick them out of my country."
FF14: STORMBLOOD
@@dracocrusher pls, wer da rest?
Is that actually their stated reason for the rework? Pretty based.
I love how they basically made created their own meta-story about the Rose Boys defending the Meme Crystals from Deep Ground
One interesting thing about FF11 is that there's a metaplot about the shutdown of the servers. Playing the game more or less canonically pushes back the apocalypse, and you can push it back more by buying the expansions and continuing to play.

Yeah, but with Vocaloids the character is just a way of selling the voice, Aki didn't come with a voice. So it's kind of like trying to sell the first aircraft based on how it handles on the ground.

Gyahaha AndKyahaha cheers
I gotta know, is this Munchie guy just putting on an act or is he really that big of a manchild?
At a certain point does it matter?
Yes
He was literally a child at the time
@@PowerRUclipsrViewer I agree, acting like a man child is the only prerequisite to being a man child.
Honestly I agree with you but Fuck he cracks my shit up lol I need the time stamp of him screaming.

The logo for FXIV is a wheel that depicts all of the weapons the players can use.
This is rad dude.
It would be amazing to get one of these for Tales Of Series

"Noone cares about the story of FFXIV" uh my man you are mistaken. It's honestly one of the best ff stories to date, and as a side note the music is awesome
Still loved the vid lmao. I understand to someone who's never played it that it would be super confusing, but I think it does the game a bit of a disservice. I think the video might have gone on for about another hour if you did kek
100% this: It's a fantastic setting.
Emperor Mateus Palamecia is pretty epic, taking over both Heaven and Hell after dying.
Theres a lot of audio issues. Hoping for a possibly reupload if they're fixable.
The slow decent into "what the fuck happened with the series?" is obviously going to be the best part of the lecture
I never knew the plot of Final Fantasy 1 was so convoluted and stupid. From this I learned that nothing happened to Final Fantasy, it was always like this.
10 minutes in.
oh boy
Bill Volk Yeah, FF5. A warlock attained the power of the Void, waged war, lost, was sealed with some weapons, his soul fractured, merged with some tree. There's also interdimensional travel involved. Crazy shit.

"Who even cares about the story of FF14"
Quite a lot actually!
FF 2 came out 1988 not 1989
Also FF 1 came out in USA in 1990 not 1989
FFX spoilers, don't read this if you might still play it, it's honestly an amazing story:
He kind of glossed over how the dreaming works in FFX, the summons are called aeons and the aeons are the dreams of the Fayth.
What the hell kind of creepy church basement are they filming in?

It's really not a spoiler relevant to the film at all until the final 5 seconds, in general knowing that would probably just give you some interesting context to maybe theorise a bit more while watching it (rather than getting that experience on the 2nd watch)

About Angeal and Zack, I think Angeal's presence makes sense though, and a lot of sense. If Cloud had only received the buster from Zack, would he not be questioning the sword's origin? Now if he believed himself to be Zack, he could mistake Zack for Angeal and just know where the sword came from anyways... Zack is Cloud's Angeal.

Every time Best Guy slurps his drink (which is very often) a knife stabs my ear. I may need to download the entire video and edit out the torture.
I just wanted to point out how genuinely amazing and inspiring the behind-the-scenes saga of the entire series is:
A traditional Western style RPG made by a thoroughly Japanese team allows the creation of *the first JRPG* which itself is inspired by traditional Western style RPGs, which then goes on to be way more popular in the West than in the East, while the first mentioned game becomes an integral part of Japanese culture based primarily on its perceived uniqueness in the country due to its unrepentantly Western visual, musical, and dialogue beats, to the point that the company that created that game ends up having to buy out the company that created the game that became popular in the West so that both series can ultimately survive throughout all regions.
Now that you know this, you can also realize how much sense Kingdom Hearts actually makes as a concept. ;D
I am primarily an archivist when it comes to games, but I also try to be a historian. That's why I share summaries like this, it's important for me that the essentials of what happened can be presented in a way that people can appreciate and naturally remember without having to do a lot of studying or research.
Hellow fellow archivist/historian this comment was great!
the first JRPG is dragon quest lmao how in the world do you miss that detail
@@Pwrplus5 That's what I was calling "A traditional Western style RPG made by a thoroughly Japanese team". The very first Dragon Quest was an RPG of Japanese origin, but as for genre it had more in common with Western RPGs at the time.
Your explanation of FF2 took me back to the hours of grinding…by literally just attacking myself and healing until everyone’s HP and MP were depleted, then resting at the inn
Oh gosh... You have my condolences and respect. That sounds... Not like a lot of fun, haha
