Every time you give us a thumbs up a Narwhal gets its horn! (maybe..)
Who is your favorite Disney Princess?!
Mulan
Jasmine
For a second, I thought this was your least viewed vid. I was wrong. Mine is belle.
Youuuuuuu
I love mulan
And I also love Cinderella
No, Belle doesn't love Beast for his Castle. She loves him for his Library.
Thank you i was looking for that
And who can blame her?! Endless books!
Thats true!
actually it's just stockholm syndrome.
I dream of having that library myself at least once a week!
There's a little Disney children's book that tells how Jasmine got Rajah. She was lonely and needed a friend, so her dad got her a tiger cub. She named him Rajah and basically raised him. That's the story. I read it when I was a little kid.
I was about to type this down too. I had the book myself when I a kid, but I can't remember if it was from the leap-frog or an actual kids book.
Oh. I remember the name was from a story her mother used to tell her.
"My daughter needs a pet. Let's get her the largest most dangerous cat there is"
Rajah came from a circus and Jasmine being young beloved him to be a gift from her mother. Thus promoting her to name him Rajah after the stories they would read.
When it comes to sleeping beauty, Maleficent’s curse is that she’ll die when she touches the spinning wheel, but the blue fairy changes it to that she’ll fall asleep instead
Wanted to correct this one, this is so difficult to remember, for a lot of people.
Thank you. I only saw the movie years ago and whwn he answered I was like "Wow, did Disney really change that from the Grimm's version?" but now I am relieved
Yes!
I was like, Maleficent wanted to expire her, not put her to 💤.
And as a curse, it works really well, as it basically forces you to love someone you know will die soon. They would spend 16 years knowing their daughter was doomed to die, and honestly the merriwether's fix doesn't really fix it. She would still fall into a "death-like sleep" and be unreactive to the world.
and furthermore, the "Only spinning wheel" is an an enchanted one of Maleficent's doing, if I'm not mistaken
I think Mor'du is there as a physical representation for Merida on what can happen to her mother and quite possibly her siblings but that never really gets brought up
And the prince that Mordu was before wanted to break the tradition and do his own thing. Similar to Merida, but he never made up with his family to fix the curse. So he's almost the mirror of Merida but the bad way
@@MisunderstoodNeko1 Yeah, I basically see him as the moral of the story. He made a mistake and didn't own up to it or try to fix it, Merida learns from that and corrects her own mistakes.
@@toschiworlds7212 yeah she learned from the past. Quite literally why my teacher says learning history is important
Who else just REALLY appreciates the fact that when the part of the video shouting out the sponsorship, they put a little timer to tell you how long they will be talking about the sponsorship for!?!???
THANK you yes no one appreciates this the way they should!!
@@ducktaledudette FR THO!!!! Like, you have to skip like 30 seconds of the video, only to find out you skipped so much in the video that you have to go back, and then the RUclipsr is still talking about the sponsorship
I'm never actually able to see the time on the timer so I can't really appreciate it
@@earthbloodelf5289 but you just skip 10 seconds until the line is almost gone. That’s more than other RUclipsr can say
i always just skip ahead anyway. my trick is to look for the link and then click that since the link always means the shout out is almost done.
12:37 okay lemme address this real quick. Belle kind of has Stockholm syndrome, but not in the way everyone thinks. Cinema Therapy here on RUclips just did an AMAZING video about this, explaining the thoughts behind it.
To put it shortly, people always think Stockholm Syndrome means falling in love with someone who keeps you captive. Belle doesn't do that (technically). She feels compassion, sees him as a friend, but she does NOT love him romantically when he held her as a prisoner. It was only after he freed her and she chose to come back that she saw him offering himself, not fighting Gaston that she fell in love with him. Go watch their video, it's awesome haha
.ruclips.net/video/p54tpokHrpo/видео.html
It's also not a real diagnosis and is widely rejected as a genuine condition by both psychiatrists and psychologists. It's not in the DSM and was made up after a botched hostage negotiation by incompetent cops.
It's a normal survival strategy to empathize with a human you have to be around constantly, especially when doing so may mean the difference between life and death.
Furthermore it's often used as a sexist label, predominantly against women; so there's that.
Better to not spread it as if it's real - cause it isn't.
@@MasterCrander Agreed. Reducing survival tactics to Stockholm Syndrome undermines survivors' credibility. The initial "study" that characterized the "syndrome" was not based in science at all and was quite dismissive of the survivors' experiences.
I kind of equate Stockholm Syndrome to "female hysteria" which is another outdated term that, thankfully, we know better than to use nowadays.
Glad somebody said it! In addition to what others said here about the term "Stockholm syndrome" undermining survivor credibility, it also erases any complexity in the fictional story of Beauty and the Beast and reduces it to a joke. It's a lazy way to think about stories.
May I add that the Beast is more likely to have Lima Syndrome, where the captor cares for the captive. When Belle was freed, she did not hesitate to leave, but the Beast was devastated.
im not sure i could be wrong tho...
Oh! Someone already brought up Cinema Therapy too, guess I should've checked the comments before. It's annoying when people say it's stockholm syndrome.
6:42 I always thought that Mor'du had just been a bear for so long due to the spell that he eventually became feral / savage (like we see happening to Queen Elinor gradually during the movie). And maybe one can throw a nice classic "he had grown to envy and hate humans, because he could possibly never become one again, which then motivated him later on subconsciously as a bear". Honestly, I have no freaking clue.
I agree with this, but I want to add that he also stands to be an example of what Eleanor will become if Merida does not mend the bond (which was not the stitching of the tapestry, but admitting she was wrong and asking for forgiveness, as well as forgiving her mother.
@@desiismeroko Thematically, yeah. Nice catch. I clearly focused on the "in-universe" view, it seems. Thanks for the assist! :)
Yeah I thought it was part of his curse, to roam his home for years, feral, not dying of old age, waiting for the right person to put him out of his misery. I think it's funny that the Carlin brothers forgot why he was in the movie.
I thought it was important to have him in the movie, seeing the consequences to action in the past that still affect the present, which Merida has to face in order to get her mom back to normal and save her kingdom from falling into war. Mor'du's story is a great way to warn Merida what will happen if they don't correct their mistakes.
My head-cannon for the Disney merfolk is that little fin around their waists is actually external gills, kind of like axolotls.
You guys are really helping other guys embrace loving Disney princess’ and not having to pretend they don’t, so awesome!
i feel like bronies broke that wall down YEARS ago: if grown men can like talking ponies then they can also like princesses.
Per Brave.. The tapestry quilt thing was meaningless.
Merida took the curse's rules to literally. "Mend the bond torn by pride" is referring to the bond of mother and daughter, and what ACTUALLY broke the curse was Merida's apology and acknowledgement of her mother's efforts and love.
Yes thank you! First of all, it was a tapestry, a historically significant and particular craft chosen for the time period, so not a quilt. And the fact that they don;t know that the relationship was the point not the tapestry makes me mad.
Also, her literally stitching up the tapestry is significant of her admitting she's wrong and wanting to literally mend the bond with her mother. She's fixing her mistake.
@@Orion_TheyThem yes, this! And Mor'du wasn't just random. He is the example of what happens when you don't mend the bond. Its all about family disputes, and if you don't apologise and/or fix the initial argument, then it will just get worse and worse until you have a whole rift in your relationship. So like, the mum turns into a bear, but is still herself. But the longer it goes on, the more animal she gets, and they'll never be able to fix it. soz, i waffled.
Yes. I came here to say this too. They need to rewatch.
Actually, regarding the questions of why Belle loves the beast and why she doesn't love Gaston. Cinema Therapy did a very interesting video on that recently. Also Johnatan Decker, who is a licensed therapist, addresses Stockholm Syndrome and what it means for this movie, which is not as simple as "Belle falls in love with her kidnapper".
Love Cinema Therapy!
Yes, I just tried to comment this!!
@@stephanielim7967 sameeeee
Yas! I wanted to recommend that video as well!
Also Lindsay Ellis did a great video on why it’s not Stockholm syndrome. I love Cinema Therapy as well
I had always assumed Malefacent had magiced the spinning wheel into existence.
That's basically how it happens, the wheel was either directly created by her (original animated version) or the curse itself (live action)
9:40 Folks! Apparently J is not far off regarding Rajah, which is hilarious. :D According to Disney's 1995 print book called Tales From Agrabah, Rajah was originally a circus tiger as a cub and was found by Jasmine who thought - GET THIS - a gift from her deceased mother! And "Rajah" was the name of a star her mom told her stories about, so she named the tiger after said star. And the sultan eventually came around to letting Jasmine keep the tiger and bought it from the circus.
The answer to question 8 is: Maleficent put a curse on the spindle, and Aurora was supposed to die, yet one of the fairies put an alteration on that spell, so Aurora would just sleep, but true love's kiss would awaken her
I agree that the princess and the frog is underrated. It is one of the best Disney princess moves ever made mainly due to the music.
ya,the princess and the frog is pretty great (i'm not a fan of some of the aspects like "princess of mardi gras" being a legit was to become a princess" because that's nonsense but it's overall pretty great and dr.facilier is hella fun to watch).
I love the return of the Google Autofill videos, they are such light hearted fun, and very entertaining. I like that both of you are involved in the video now, it’s a nice change.
But… couldn’t believe you didn’t find a way to sneak in “I know what a nickname is” quote for the Lottie question, haha!!
Seriously! I said the same thing. I mean, Lottie makes more sense as a nickname than Roonil
I grew up obsessed with Ariel (born in 86), but as an adult- Moana hands down. A modern classic in every respect of the word. It’s a near perfect film and I hold it very close to my heart.
Mulan (2020) has a lot of problems, but I’d honestly say that Mulan having superpowers is definitely… in the middle of that list: yes, it is a problem, but the worst it does it add to a much larger problem. That problem is how Mulan isn’t challenging the system: she apparently says “I know my place”, a line that Mulan’s father says in the original, who is disproven in that philosophy, but Mulan (2020) praises her for it. Here’s where the chi midichlorians factor in: as they’re “rare in women”, it doesn’t highlight the issue with not allowing women in the army by treating Mulan as an exception. That means that she likely had very little impact in changing the system, compared to Mulan (1996), who demonstrated how different mind sets allow for more effective combat, will have meant that women would be much more likely to be allowed in the army.
EDIT: Belle does not get Stockholm Syndrome. I would explain it, but Cinema Therapy did a great job of it and you should watch that video (in fact, watch their entire channel; it’s great stuff)
Yeah, the 1996 Mulan was best because she wasn't training to be a warrior all her
life. She was just a brave woman who risked everything for her father, and when she went to war, skills she hadn't used previously before came to the surface.
And YES. I am tired of people saying Belle had Stockholm Syndrome too.
Also, I like the 1996 version of Mulan because of Mushu, because he brought a lot of comedy relief to what could’ve been a too serious movie, whereas the 2020 version had absolutely no comedy relief, which kinda made the movie not as enjoyable for me or my family.
That one spinning wheel was created by magic. In the animated version it was created by Maleficent herself, but in the live-action version it was created by the curse. Also in both movies, Maleficent wasn't mad at not being invited (mistakes do happen), she was mad that she wasn't wanted.
In the original Grimm version of the story, she wasn't invited because the royal family didn't have enough ornate cuttlery for all fairies and had to exclude one of them. Why they didn't just invite her and then apologize for the inconvience is beyond me though.
@@toschiworlds7212 because she would have been insulted either way in the original. That’s just how fairies work. They either had to invite all of them and give each of them something or not invite any of them. That’s how it works with fairies.
she was mad at the lack of respect: she's a VERY powerful fairy, yet wasn't invited to the biggest celebration in the kingdom and that was pretty much the same as spitting in her beautifully green face so she retaliated by making it all about her via cursing the baby princess to death (pretty hard to ignore THAT).
I thought in the Maleficent movie she was mad because she got betrayed by someone she thought loved her and held a grudge.
No in the original movie according to the villain series Maleficent was mad because she wasn't invited to her daughter's christening yes daughter and she only cursed her daughter by making her daughter die so that way she wouldn't have to go through the hardships in life that she went through but still she's a bad mom
6:37 by telling her mom how much she loved her and telling her what she was doing was out of love. 7:09 Because mor'du is an animal
The entire concept of a fairy godmother was introduced by Perrault (French court author who wrote down many fairytales a couple centuries before the Grimm brothers) and seemed to be a combination of the classic fairy helper/divine helper with the concept of actual godparents, who are traditionally tasked with offering help and support to their god-children. His version of Cinderella (the version Disbey used to adapt his) features one (along with a pumpkin and glass styles slippers) but an older version had a fairy tree and the later grimm version had a tree with the spirit of her dead mother. In other less similar variants (like Thousandfurs or Catskin) they don't get help from anyone.
Maleficent cursed her to die, but Merryweather still hasn't given her gift and changes it to sleep.
Also as I remember it in an older version of sleeping beauty I think maleficent isn't invited because they don't have enough gold plates to serve one more person.
Love your videos but 1 correction:
Maleficent was (seemingly) mad for not being invited to the christening party for Aurora when the whole rest of the kingdom was (Didn’t see the backstory movie. I’m sure there is more to it) She decided to still give a ‘gift’ to Aurora hence the curse to DIE if she pricked her finger on a spinning needle. One of the 3 fairies changed it to making everyone sleep instead. Also, I think the remaining spinner wheel was either magically created, built by Maleficent (or a minion) or was left over where no one thought to look (like an attic?)
i believe the reason she wasnt invited was because she already had a ...reputation.
The Take did did a great video on Cinderella suggesting that The Fairy Godmother is the personification of her self parenting and that Cinderella actually makes the things happen for herself using her resources, creativity and optimism.
the take is wrong and that is a really dumb theory.
@@JT5555 say what you like, people can have opinions
Technically out of the 12 official princesses at this time, 6 of them have living mothers during their movies (Aurora, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, and Moana) It's mostly the early princesses who have dead moms. If we count Raya, then the stats go from 50% with living moms to 46%, but that's still a lot with moms.
7:14 It was my understanding that Mor'du was a bear for long enough that he just when savage and insane, and so he just attacks basically anything he sees.
Ariel sings Part of Your World before she meets Eric, so he wasn't the main reason she wanted to be human!! Also I highly recommend Cinema Therapy's video on Beauty and the Beast. They break down the love story and how it's not Stockholm Syndrome in the way we would think.
Fixing the quilt isn't what broke the curse on Merida's mom. Merida THOUGHT that was how to break it but when it didn't work she broke down, finally admitted what happened to her mother was her fault (something she'd been denying the whole movie) and apologized to her. That's what 'mended the bond' between them.
i think giving him a break when he has 15 seconds is fair imo. but good catch
SO much fun, good answers! As for Mor'du, I believe even in the movie they hinted at him being a cursed human of royalty, I think for one, he's a savage bear, and two, he some-what remembers the curse that was laid on him and not broken, possibly taking it out on Merida because she herself incidentally laid the curse onto another human! Also my mom works with wildlife, he totally looks like he has mange disease or distemper, which can cause such behavior. Also commenting on Rapunzel's hair weight, I'm a hair stylist and took a stab before you did, I guessed between 90 and 100 lbs! Proud of that, I cut a bunch off of my friend's hair recently, she had dreadlocks and we weighed them in at 3 lbs, only the top section(her sides were and back totally shaved, undercut) and only to her shoulders. Hair weighs a surprising amount. You guys have the best fan feedback! A lot of the fun is reading the comments, many many good points made!
For the animal sidekick question, It is also a great exposition dump, without it being too obvious.
You talking about the scenes in Moana gave me chills.. just you talking about it
OH, and on the topic of weird nicknames. Most of them stem back to ye olden times when 8 out of 20 people in your village were all named Richard after the king. There's a whole series odd nicknames like this. And it's very often a rhyme scheme thing.
Seeing J rant about live action Mulan just makes me happy 😂
“Because castles… be cool!” CASTLE CON!!!! 😂
Now why was Pocahontas so akwardly drawn? She's gorgeus, but whenever she's seen from the front her nose is not outlined, thus giving her the appearance of Voldemort-style nostrils.
In brave: the other bear is someone who lost his humanity and has become a ferocious wild animal just as people assumed bears to be. He is the image of what will become of the queen (in essence a monster)
As far as Moana making you cry, I honestly believe that the music plays a huge part. I'm sure I've read somewhere that the tones in music can seriously effect your emotional state, which is why scores and songs are so important to movies. (You'd have to look it up because I don't remember where I heard it, so I could be wrong. But personally I get effected by music in movies more than anything else, so I believe it 😊)
I postponed watching moana for so long i only watched it this year and it was so amazing i love her and could feel like i was her with the whole wanting to explore the ocean thing
I think that Esmeralda from The Hunchback should be on that forgotten princess list. She stood up for Quasimodo - that was a heroic deed.
The original "Brothers Grimm" version (in which most of Disney films are based from aside the more modern ones) is way more darker.
I remember watching a vid from Cinema Therapy that dig a little bit into how Beauty and the Beast isn't exactly stockholm syndrome.
Sewing up the tapestry, very pointedly, did not undo the spell in Brave. Mending the bond between Merida and Elinor did. It took Merida apologizing, recognizing her part in the conflict, and honestly reaching out to her mother.
Mor’du was under the same spell as Elinor, but he brought it on himself out of greed. He was consumed with rage that had built up over centuries and caused him to attack everyone he saw. He was specifically targeting Merida in the end because she had gone into his home and drawn his attention
Thank you for saying the weight of Rapunzel's hair also in kilogramm, much appreciated :)
Number one snubbed Disney Princes: Eilonwey from The Black Cauldron. First Disney Princess to get HERSELF out of trouble, saves the main character, stands up for herself, is absolutely precious. FIGHT ME
Are we likely to see more Disneyverse Theory videos soon? (I so want to see it all come together) 😆 I love the video!!
Elsa is my favorite Disney character, period. I didn't get 2 Frozen II tattoos for nothing! And yes, I am the eldest sibling in my family, as well. Lol
I think I remember Jasmine getting Raja as a present from her dad. I just remember reading it in a Disney princess book I had as a child.
THE FACT THAT THESE TWO DIDNT DO THE DIALOGUE FROM HALF BLOOD PRINCE WHEN HARRY STARTS EXPLAINING WHAT A NICKNAME IS TO SNAPE MAKES ME SO FREAKING UPSET! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
(Regarding the “why does Tiana call Charlotte ‘lottie’” question lol)
Not sure if this has been commented yet, but I always found it really dumb that they brought Sleeping Beauty back on her birthday, because they literally could have avoided the curse thing entirely if they’d just kept her in the woods one more day. Wouldn’t even need to burn all the spinning wheels, just keep her away from them. Maybe put her in a room and always have someone watching her or something idk.
From what I remember, they successfully burned all the spinning wheels, but on the night of her bday, Maleficent creates a magic one that she’s lured to.
Reminds me of the Google Autofill game (Fun Fact Why Does Voldemort Google Autofill was the first SCB video I ever watched)
After your insufficient answer about Mor’du, I really want you to do an in-depth discussion on brave now!
Interesting content today! You actually nailed answering the questions! 👍🏻
Another reason the princesses don't have mothers I've read is Walt's deep grief and guilt after losing his mother due to a faulty heating system in the home he bought her after his success with Snow White. However, many of the characters had absent parents in the original source material.
I recommend reviewing Sleeping Beauty to catch up on a bunch of important details.
I really enjoy these videos!! I think they're a good idea overall and I like hearing the different questions people have that I would never have thought to ask or didn't know I needed answers. Please make more if you're enjoying them too!!!
I'm happy that when you showed the mulan clip it was from the good one.
Yes! Justice for Pua! He was in the trailers way more than Hei-Hei
am I crazy or am I interpreting Brave wrong? (genuinely wondering - they also may have said this as a joke so just ignore me if so)... Like I've heard this opinion a couple of times now by other people, but it wasn't the quilt that was the issue, it was her bond with her mom? the prophecy was "fate be changed, look inside, mend the bond torn by pride"....
her saying she loves her mom right as she was (dying from being crushed by the rock/turning fully into a bear?? haven't watched the film in a while), is what mended the bond torn by pride... Merida is the one who confused mending the tapestry as the actual solution...
I don't think you're crazy, that's how I interpret it to. The tapestry is symbolic mending, but it's the relationship that really needed to be healed :)
That’s how I always saw it too!
My theory as to why Mulan is a princess is that the Emperor gives her the royal seal at the end of the movie, symbolically making her a member of the royal family.
My favorite Disney Princess... being a "retired" cosmetology instructor, I'd have to say Rapunzel!!!
Although she is not a princess... being handicapped (and the fact that I'm her Fairy Godmother... no, "Bibitty Boppitty Betty" is not the only Fairy Godmother) Qusimodo's daughter, Querida is my favorite!!!
Since when does Qusimodo have a kid?
Actually you could argue that they have become worst role models by replacing kindness to others with following your own selfish desires.
I do love how live action beauty and the beast fills out the plot holes and gives beast a song. Beyond that, I think they really overused their musical motifs to the point that the rest of the new songs kinda just sound like the same song.
Elsa and Mulan are my absolute favorites, along with Moana!!!!!!
you slayed me with that oscars trivia 😂😂😂
My 2 favourite Disney Princesses would be Rapunzel, from Tangled, and Princess Eilonwy from the Black Cauldron ( Though I don’t think she is actually counted as one)
Eilonwy isn’t a Disney princess primarily because Disney is trying to get us all to agree that the Black Cauldron never happened.
@@DneilB007 yeah I thought she wasn’t one.
5:30 They DID actually burn all the spinning wheels (RIP the textile industry). Maleficent magically creates the last one.
In Moana (hope I spelled it right), after she tried to go beyond the reef the first time Pua was with her and the crash from it caused Pua to be afraid of the water.
I like Moana because she is just so relatable. She also is the main female hero. And omg that moment the grandma said "guess I picked the right tattoo" as a spirit I cried......
Wasn’t expecting this one 😂🙌🏻
Princess and the Frog is an amazing film.
Someone needs to create a petition to Disney to get the carlin brothers to become Disney princesses
I misread the title as “Disney Princess Google Autofill” and got very excited. A new take on an old SCB classic
Hey brothers! I think you’d really like the video that Cinema Therapy just did about Belle’s and Beasts relationship! (And idk how you’d do this, but a collab between your channel and theirs would be killer!!! I love hearing your guys thoughts about therapy on the pop, so it could be a cool crossover!) Also, thanks for the video! It brightened my day 😊
Actually, the reason that there are so many dead mothers amongst disney princesses and disney characters in general is because Walt and roy helped move their mom into a new house but it turns out it wasnt up to code and she died of carbon monoxide poisoning and walt felt guilty for it ever since.
:(
I am like 50% sure that there is a book that went with like one of the original 90s toddler dolls for Jasmine talking about why and how she got Radha but if not I would guess you know when you’re a princess and you’re basically locked in your castle all day you start to get a little whiny so the salt and gets a little annoyed and he’s like what do you want and she’s like I wanna tiger
I love the Google questions videos!
Love you guys
The question about Rapunzel's hair made me lagh a little, as there is a related question (or, better, fact) in German/Austrian movie history: Starting in 1955, an Austrian production company made a movie trilogy about the life of Austria's most beloved empress, Elisabeth, born Duchess of Bavaria, and better known as "Sissi" (pet name for "Elisabeth"). The movies cover the time period from Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria meeting Emperor Franz Joseph I. of Austria-Hungary ("Sissi"), her early days as empress ("Sissi - the yound Empress") to her assassination ("Sissi - An Empress's years of Destiny" - I translated the movie titles to the best of my ability).
Sissi was portrayed by German actress Romy Schneider, who had to wear a absurdly heavy wig, as the real Elisabeth had an elaborate hairstyle that reached the floor (when standing). Romy Schneider even complained about how straining it was to wear this 2kg monstrosity of a wig. Romy Schneider was just 16 when she landed the role.
Hair is awfully heavy...
brave was the first disney movie my nephew watched in theatre. :) (with me and my sister)
so it always has a special spot with me. :)
actually, it's not stockholm syndrome for belle. Cinema Therapy recently covered that film and why that doesn't totally apply. Beast sets her free and at that point, she still has him heavily friendzoned. but then she comes back and she falls in love with him when he sacrifices himself against Gaston to save her and she's terrified of losing him, and realizes that she actually loves him.
I love how many comments are about Cinema's Therapy's video! I know I've found my corner of the internet 😁
Yes one of these again!!!!!! (Like the old google autofills)
I think Aurora was originally cursed by Maleficient to die on her 16th birthday. One of the three fairies - Merriweather, I believe - uses her remaining gift to the baby to reduce the power of the curse to just falling asleep. The other two fairies had already given her beauty and song before Maleficient showed up. They sent Aurora away with the fairies and then the king burned all of the spinning wheels, though it was badly done because they weren't all destroyed.
I think Maleficent just made her own spinning wheel…like she just makes it appear and then Aurora pricks her finger on it. Like..she’s the most powerful fairy in the land and you think that burning all the wheels in the kingdom will stop her? It’s so confusing
You guys should check out a novel collection titled "A Twisted Tale" it takes classic Disney plots and twist them in one way, also bringing in more adult themes and a new light to the story. For example and my favorite, "Part of Your World: A Twisted Tale" by Liz Braswell. "What if Ariel never defeated Ursula?"
There's about a dozen books out right now and they are all really good. It would be cool to see you guys talk about them.
Love those books!
2:00 there is also a theory that her husband is a distant relative to the emperor
I love this channel so much!
I’ve got a video idea for you 👀 who was the fifth spirit before Elsa? I have this whole.. thing worked out where I think it’s the guy King Runeard killed. That it’s a familial thing, and that guy was also Elsa’s grandfather (iduna’s father? Grandfather?)
What's braver than sewing a tapestry? There's nothing weird about that Haha
Also, cool shirts, J!
Fun fact: there are so many orphans in Disney stories so you don't have to remember all of the characters' names (probably)
4:45 Fairy Godmother states to Aqua in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep that she appears to tho who believe dreams come true
Actually Beauty and the Beast is more an example of Lima Syndrome (where the captor begins to sympathize with the captured), while examples of Stockholm Syndrome (where the victim sympathizes with their abuser) are Frollo and Quasimodo and Mother Gothel and Rapunzel. Both break free from their captors psychological hold while Belle doesn't respond positively to the Beast until he shows her kindness (saving her from the wolves). Before (and after when he growls at her and tries to turn his injuries around on her) Belle is defiant and outspoken against his behavior, valuing herself and her own autonomy above her captor's.
Quick question, do people like Brave or not?
I do. I thought it was different from their normal movies in some ways. Some good lessons in there too.
Without Mordu, Merida wouldn’t have as much danger. Mordu pushes the time limit they still have, since she has to avoid him while also getting what she needs to fix the tapestry.
Disney Princess content again! Les GO!!!
Another reason a lot of Disney characters don’t have moms is because Walt’s mom was dead, and he felt semi responsible for her death because she died from I think some sort of gas leak in her house, and that was the house that he bought her. After that, he couldn’t bring himself to write/draw/create mom characters because they always reminded him of his mom. If you’re more interested look into it, it’s a pretty interesting topic. But of course they answer they gave us also true.
Elena is totally snubbed so are all their kids from descendants
Beauty and the Beast is definitely not Stockholm syndrome. There are key components that characterize Stockholm syndrome and Belle does not show these:
1. Refuse to leave their captors, even when given the opportunity to escape. When an act of violence occurs and threatens Belle’s safety she leaves right away, not caring about the promise she made.
2. A hostage's development of positive feelings towards the captor. Yes, she does end up feeling compassion towards the Beast but only after he stops his abusive behavior entirely and does not return to that behavior. She develops positive feelings when the Beast stops acting like a captor and she isn’t captive. The Broadway musical even says, “You are no longer my prisoner. You haven’t been for a long time.”
Plus, Belle doesn't even fall in love with the Beast until the very end of the movie when she is about to lose him. The Beast lets her go because he loves her, but the spell didn't break... why? Because she didn't love him back in a romantic way. So, in actuality, Belle did not fall in love when she was a prisoner
3. Self-preservation instinct on the part of the captor. The victim avoids triggers that will set off the captor. Belle never does this… just look at the scene where she is cleaning up his wounds, she yells back at him and does set him off, same for the scene when Beast asks her to diner.
4. Power imbalance, in which the captor dictates what the prisoner can and can’t do. See the Beast defines rules and Belle any of does not obey any of the requests. She is seen to hold some power too, especially after she was saved from the wolf attack. The Beast argues but Belle stands her ground and outsmarts him.
5. Negative perceptions towards police, family, friends, and anyone else who may try to help them escape their situation. Belle loves her father and leaves to save him; she doesn’t even plan on going back to the castle because she wants to help her father. When Maurice is about to be sent to an asylum, she stands up for him and saves him once again.
👏👏👏🏅 EXCELLENT breakdown, thank you!
This series of videos is fun.
For sleeping beauty, maleficent actually says Aurora would die but, just minutes later Merrywheather who hadn’t given her spell yet, cast it so that Aurora would fall asleep until her prince wakes her up with a kiss.
Actually you could make a video about what Merryweather’s actual spell would have been had maleficent come after the three fairies were done.
I am so happy they have two sponsors in videos
Given the fact that maleficent is all over the scene with the spindle I really think she just kind of magic it up there weren’t any spindles left but I think maleficent just create that in that moment
