      Seriously, and it would be nice if they'd commit to that. It would also drive adoption, because nobody wants to be left in a lurch when their browser just suddenly goes away.

    • @zehph
      @zehph 2 месяца назад +12

      Of course they won't do that, if they don't make it they are just going to sell the IP for someone that will create a subscription and still do all the data mining crap on top of it

    • @theherk

      True, but sometimes taking a risk is warranted if the benefit is substantial enough. So, if by doing so they made many more people adopt the platform it could be worth such a commitment. Not to mention, I know many including me are jaded by the current state of corporate greed, but it is possible to act with ethics in mind.

    I founded a startup with a team about 6 years ago, we have and are doing things in a very non-typical way. We have been blessed year by year in crazy ways to keep our company going and growing despite all odds, and typically at the last minute, God comes in and says "I am not done with you yet" and somehow, miraculously, the journey continues every time and better than before.What you all are doing documenting your journey and being open about it, is very cool and myself and probably so many others wish they did this when they weren't in the place they wanted to be. I think we are all thinking, we will tell our story when we make it, and later we realize there is never and end just more growth and new battles that we are hopefully more equipped for.
    I guess this mellow dramatic short story of a comment is to say, I love what you all are doing, both in product and in story. Rooting for you all for the journey to keep going.

    I gave arc a try after I ditched chrome for safari. I'm a developer who uses vim (btw), and prefer using the keyboard whenever I can.
    i feel the way arc organizes profiles, spaces, and tabs, makes it very keyboard friendly to switch between stuff, cmd+s to show the sidebar, ctr+num to switch between spaces, etc...
    air traffic control is also a great feature.
    some arc max features are neat but I don't use them that much.

I guess there’s also some people around here that could come up with some power user features that you could paywall which wouldn’t use regular users.
    I mean, we all spend so much time in a browser in any week, that it would only make sense to pay to get a better and more efficient experience! I barely touched any other browser for so long already, and whenever I do they all feel ancient now!

    Two cents as a long term user of Arc - I have absolutely ZERO interest in AI / Talk based interfaces until the Tab interface problem is "solved". Right now I feel like I have about half the tools I need to manage tabs as an information worker.

    • @mascot4950
      @mascot4950 2 месяца назад

      My use case might be very different from yours, I don't know that we share a common definition of "tab interface problem", but for me it was solved by Vivaldi's vertical tab bar and workspaces. The vertical bar makes it so much easier to identify tabs, and workspaces keeps everything nicely segmented into logical collections instead of cluttering up my default workspace where I spend most of my time.
      It should be said that I've only casually had a quick peek at Arc. It not being widely available on Windows yet makes it a non-starter for me, as I use both operating systems. But from what limited experience I have with it, I didn't "get it" at all. Whatever its killer feature is, it was not obvious to me.

    • @tx7300
      @tx7300 2 месяца назад

      vivaldi's vertical tab bar is pretty cool but for some reason after some months of use vivaldi has gotten excruciatingly slow. there is lag when typing on the address bar.
      i am now back at firefox even though i consider vivaldi better feature-wise. it's like every single browser has something wrong with them that is very obvious and no one is fixing it.
      hope arc windows comes out soon and lives up to my expectations because im tired

      Take a better look then, because Arc has spaces, and vertical tabs. It does not have stack tabs, like Vivaldi, but it does not matter, really, but it has something better: if you enable the AI, Arc categorise automatically all the open tabs for you. You don't have to create stack tabs, Arc does it automatically, and you can eventually convert them in folders. Also Arc support bookmarks per space, and they are always available for you.@@mascot4950

It's a call to action for those involved in design thinking and empathic design to immerse themselves fully in their environment, understand the needs and shifts within it, and be ready to act when opportunities arise. This proactive and anticipatory approach is key to creating solutions that are not only innovative but also deeply aligned with human needs and experiences.

    Things you should do:
    1) improve the traffic control, because it is too basic, you need to be able to create rules, and inside the rules you add routes;
    2) add the preview of all the tabs for a space, like Safari does for a group;
    3) add the ability to use the TouchID on macOS, and the keychain, please;
    4) do not add things there are not browser related, I don't want an email client like in Vivaldi, Arc is a browser, let 's keep it like that;
    5) I love the AI integration, make it better, for example changing almost immediately the tab name of a website I just opened, and further improve the automatic categorisation, which is the feature I like the most.

      The AI can run locally, and a free model can be used. There are plenty good enough to do what Arc is currently doing.

    Really looking forward to whats to come. Couldnt imagine going back to Chrome. However I have also thought about the future perspective. I am using a browser for free, not even by paying with my data. I would be perfectly fine by paying a small subscription fee for example

    I think I've talked to all of my friends about how Arc's business model doesn't seem very sustainable, and the whole charge companies and teams to use Arc is a really optimistic look into the future and a gamble that Arc is good enough for that. I just hope that if the company goes under, Arc will be open source because I can't really go back to other browsers...

    Well, EVERY Start-Up (and grown Companies, too!) has to answer the one most important question at one point in their early lives: "How can I make money for a living with the product or service I am about to offer?!"
    So, as long as this (pretty) simple question is unanswered, the company has no chance of survival!
    And if it comes to a Browser, the only possible answers are:
    1. We sell (or use them for personalized ads) personal information
    2. We provide a "Pro"-Version with a more or less high monthly payment, which will be presented to the user as a certain number of "Cup of Coffee".
    BTW, I could never drink that much coffee. I already have spent money on other companies' monthly payments (collected once a year)...

    When will there be some kind of Business subscriptions? We wanna make Arc sustainable! Even tho I'm quite poor at the moment, I'd love to pay to use Arc. It cannot stay completely free forever. Don't be afraid to involve your users in the way you could make it sustainable.

    Staggering to think this but honestly its almost a toss upp between LLMs at large and Arc as to what has improved my day more. Going back to a pre Arc Browser is unfreakinthinkable - but i'm grateful for your honesty about the odds. Between you and me, if it came down to it I wld pay a shit-ton of sub rather than go without this entirely suprerior browsing modality. And i am semi-retired, poor, in a country with a not great exchange rate. Please just stay the course One Way Or Another, for the sake of y'know… civilisation.

    Was terrified when I saw this. I cannot go back to a traditional browser. Please do not terrify the community like this lol! Seriously, I cannot go back to browsing in a traditional browser, and my entire company now uses Arc for work. One thing, we need a full fledged browser for iPad. Right now there is only the iphone version. Please support iPad os and VisionOS. Your browser has made all things better.. all!
    Thank you, we appreciate your effort here!

      I’m not an Arc user yet, can you help me understand why it’s worth $10/mo as a user for you for a browser?

    •  2 месяца назад

      @@NoahHayes because they care about the UX and that's hard to come by. Also you get used to separating/easily switching based on work/personal/project stuff.

    • @NoahHayes

      @ I can already separate bookmarks and tabs in Safari by different categories like work/personal. I’m not sure what makes Arc a better experience that’s worth $10 a month. I’m *not* saying it isn’t worth $, but I have yet to meet someone who can articulate what they like about it that made them switch, let alone willing to pay for it.
