When Cruijff joined Barcelona as a player and later as manager, they never won the Ec1/CL. There were a club like Espanyol. He as a player started the change with Michels, the famous Dutch coach. Then he won as a trainer the EC1 in 1992 with the dreamteam he build. Without Cruijff, Barca would have been just an ordinary club.

Then as a coach he kept revolutionizing the approach to football, to tactics, technical training, the triangles approach (what we call tiki-taka now). The video illustrates most of this, but people always forget that Cruijff also revolutionized the professionalism of football and financial aspects of the sport. He refused to wear club sponsor clothes because he had a personal sponsor, one of the first. He argued with the KNVB that internationals should be compensated. He argued for more bonus incentives for players. We can argue all day who was the absolute best player and never agree...but no single player has meant more for football as Johan Cruijff. I like the video. Great job. However the 6/10 for Speed phisique is incorrect though. His speed makes up for his phisique he was unstopable in his time. And there is no evidence that his phisique made him less strong. Tha would be an assumption.
If cruyff played in the modern era of football then he would be like one of them players who could play any position winger, striker, midfielder and perform well
I believe that people should start crediting him more as a player too. In the era he played, for me he's the greatest ever. The only two players in the same league as Cruyff are Messi and Maradona themselves.
Messi and Ronaldo are the monsters on the ball. Cryuff is the greatest of all time in the beautiful game when it comes to the sheer intelligence of the game.
There must be more video footage of Cruyff out there ,ready to add to this player's legacy. Certainly top 10. Maybe top 5. He retired too soon from international scene ,he spoke about the game being too violent for his style and we really need to see more of him to categorise him. Cruyff was the first football superstar in the 70s.
Its crazy how much football has evolved over the years. The fact that a player as legendary as Cruyff would be a substitute player for West Ham in today's football is a true testament to that. Respect!
Football has not evolved. It has merely changed. To say he would be a sub for West Ham is plain stupid. Football has 'evolved 'into a non contact sport. Most of today's players would have the legs brutally kicked from beneath them if they tried their showboating skills before the premier league era. Football only evolves (ie changes) through rule changes, whether changes to offside rules or changes to fouling like slide tackling, tackling from behind, etc. This started in the 19th century and is continuing today. Do your research.
I LOVE watching your videos man. Watched your for the first time about a month ago and I’ve agreed with everything until now lol I have a problem with 6/10 physically & speed.. deserves a couple more points I believe.

This isn't about statistics. If you look at Cruyff as a player he was different. He did a lot more than he needed to do. The role he had as a coach is far different. His coaching ideas far exceeds his playing abilities. I don't care how he played. Cruyff is the model of a coach and of a style of play. The only thing that matters to this is that you see how he can prove what he says is right. He says I can shoot with my right left pretty much... not 100 right but he does say how he can shoot with the inside of each foot and the outside of each foot and that makes him better than anyone. HIs coaching ideas and his philosophy and how he sees the game is the path to fun. Have fun. I pass to you I move you pass to me.. if I think I cant score I pass to you and you can score.
his coaching did not exceed his player abilities. this is the cliche. as a player he was electric, sensational, erratic etc. according to lineker he was when he was already a coach at barca the best player in training always!! his football abilities (in the broadest sense of the word) and scope were unmatched by anyone uptil now. and that from a country of only 15 million people compared to italy, germany, argentina and brasil!
Well, it's simple. There is this Special group and these names are in it, Cruijff / Pelé / Maradona / Ronaldo / Zidane / Ronaldinho / Eusebio / Messi / Cristiano / Best / Beckenbauer, these guys were and are in my opinion something special 'in no particular order' and maybe i'm forgetting some players but not much i'm pretty close i think.
I like your comment. These are all players who changed the game. But I think players like Pelé, Cruijff and Maradona made a whole team play better no mather what team they were in. I dont care how great people think Messi is, for me he will never be the greatest. Off course in my opinion he is one of the greatest. But I am not convinced that Messi can carry a team If that team is not built around him. But i love your comment. People like to discuss who is the best. But there is that special group!
Personally, I would ditch the fat druggie, Maradona, from that line up and replace him with the exquisitely-gifted Alfredo di Stéfano, who walks into an 'all-time' XI.
@@alangeorgebarstow for sure Di Stéfano is one of them, but i want to mention many more players like, Alessandro Del Pierro or even Paul Gascoigne.(2 different worlds) For me what they (Maradona and Gascoigne) did to ruin their own lives is not relevant on how well they played football, so Maradona is 100% on that list.

I was going to make the same point. It was 1-0 to East Germany, as I recall, and both German teams qualified for the next phase, which aroused suspicions that the result may have been agreed upon in advance. In my mind the Netherlands definitely had the best team in the world in 1974 (and in 1978) but unfortunately they didn't make it official by winning a final. Johan Cruyff is the best player I've ever watched in the flesh and I've seen a few top candidates - Eusebio, Pelé, Bobby Charlton, George Best, Franz Beckenbauer, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and others. JC is everything I would have wanted to be if I could have been a professional footballer.
@@gerrycoogan6544 I find myself reacting with heavy jealousy that you got to see even ONE of those legends in the flesh 😂 Johan is the greatest thinking footballer of all time and it’s not even close, very very strong candidate for the greatest player to ever live
@@cristiandelvillar3121 I often consider the merits of a footballer in terms of, "how good would a team be if all eleven positions could be filled by clones of this guy?" In my mind, a Johan Cruyff XI would beat any other "clone team" home and away every time!
Great video I always said he wore number 14 because he was as good as two number 7's put together. Genius player. Has a pre FIFA signature move named after him. Then became the coach who changed football for decades. Could you do Paolo Maldini next? My favourite defender ever.

Great post! I would add "Two-Way" player to your ratings. This separates the offense players when they play more defense. Although, it's hard not to count goals for - which is very important to most forwards.

I like the video. Great job. However the 6/10 for Speed phisique is incorrect though. His speed makes up for his phisique he was unstopable in his time. And there is no evidence that his phisique made him less strong. Tha would be an assumption.
Totally agree. A 6 is ridiculous. He speed was one af his killer abillities. His overall score should be somewhere in the 90's
Thank you for making these videos.
In football, there's a pre-Cruyff and a post-Cruyff. That's how relevant he was to how the beautiful game is played, even today.
Yes but Rinus Michels and Ernest Happel were important for the developement of Cruijff as well.
Seriously anyone who doesn't like your vids shouldn't get the pleasure to watch !!! They are awesome!!
Glad to see you kept going brotha
If cruyff played in the modern era of football then he would be like one of them players who could play any position winger, striker, midfielder and perform well
I respect this guy so much as a player, as a manager, and as a person.
I believe that people should start crediting him more as a player too. In the era he played, for me he's the greatest ever. The only two players in the same league as Cruyff are Messi and Maradona themselves.
Thanks! Best Cruijff compilation so far!
His motoric skills fitted perfectly with Newton's Laws. So stunningly beautiful to watch.
Messi and Ronaldo are the monsters on the ball.
Cryuff is the greatest of all time in the beautiful game when it comes to the sheer intelligence of the game.
No
Ronaldo is a goal machine but in terms of beautiful football Messi and Johan are on the same level (maradona was closest to them).
@@top-on-dus10 no lol. Messi never revolutionized football, neither did Ronaldo.
You make good football videos I've watched a few so far. You deserve more views
Thanks man!
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT good job!
My 2nd favorite player of all time, after George Best
My top player ever! I was a kid when he was at his best, glad I was able to watch his great Dutch team of 1974....
There must be more video footage of Cruyff out there ,ready to add to this player's legacy.
Certainly top 10. Maybe top 5.
He retired too soon from international scene ,he spoke about the game being too violent for his style and we really need to see more of him to categorise him.
Cruyff was the first football superstar in the 70s.
first together with lev yashin. Only players who left such impact on football.
He was the best , football has seen and ever will see
He transformed football. Barca is Cruyff’s team still today. Transcendent as a player, transcendent as a football thinker.
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it man
The Legend of the Foootball!!! Great Backnumber 14 Johan Cruyff
The great footballer of all time.
Cruyff was a genius .....one of the best ever .....
In the top 3 all time alongside Best and Pele!
Not one, but the best ( that's what I think)
@@yousef6063 agreed. Jopie was the best
@@johnhughes8466 I am happy that you mentioned Best. It's a shame that not many know how unbelievably good he was.
Remember, without Cruyff, pep would be playing a 442 in the 2nd tier. There'd be no xavi, Iniesta and Messi.
its so crazy how much you changed during the last 4 years
So elegant and ahead of his time, truly wonderful player.
For sure
for me the greatest footballer I have seen!
Cruyff was a maestro , a wizard . 14 was his number . A legend .
R9 is the greatest genius to have stepped onto to the football pitch
i think based on your categories and how you explain them i might have given him more an 85/86, but great vid!
YOU ARE APPRECIATED.🤲🏼
Its crazy how much football has evolved over the years. The fact that a player as legendary as Cruyff would be a substitute player for West Ham in today's football is a true testament to that. Respect!
Lay down the pipe crackhead. He would be still considered world class today.
@@tulyar57 If you think Ronaldo or Messi wouldn't have slaughtered players from the 40s you are mentally challenged
Tusiquetienes un problema mental no tienes ni puta idea de futbol
I LOVE watching your videos man. Watched your for the first time about a month ago and I’ve agreed with everything until now lol I have a problem with 6/10 physically & speed.. deserves a couple more points I believe.
Thanks man, that's why I dropped the ranking system, it's impossible to get it right every time
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT of course, I understand that.. especially when you’re reviewing and doing research on so many legends it’s impossible to be accurate all the time..
Just a comment I wanted to put out there I’m glad I got a response from you 😬

just discovered your channel really enjoyed the cruyff video. Im not sure about the music you use though, sounds like im in an elevator! a tiny criticism, on an otherwise excellent channel, thank u
I see what you did here, posted this video on the 14th
Messi and Ranoldo aint near this mans level, leaving teams and building up weaker teams..increadible
Keep it going dude great content !!!
The differents between Johan Cruijff and the rest is that he make other football players better on the field.
awesome vid
@@cicerio1875 you are 100% right, i have the same opinion.
Great players all of them. Cristiano and Zidane should be a step lower in the ranks and Messi is easily ahead of most of the mentioned players.
Greatest European footballer
To the maker of this video - you are doing amazing work that shall be viewed for centuries to come... Keep grinding ! Maybe try changing your titles. As a young man I didn't even know these legends till I watched ur videos !
A suggestion - Try making such videos for upcoming talent too ! Cheers.. Love the rating system btw !
For some reason when I title them something else RUclips hates it and they get no views, its tough being a small channel. BTW regarding the upcoming talent thing: you're gonna love my next video, haaland!
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT Looking forward to that !! Keep it up budd !
Just because of him i want netherlands to win the World Cup its sad that a country with so many talented footballers never won it
Quick correction: you said West Germany beat every team, that’s incorrect. They very controversially lost to bitter rivals East Germany
@@cristiandelvillar3121
I often consider the merits of a footballer in terms of, "how good would a team be if all eleven positions could be filled by clones of this guy?"
In my mind, a Johan Cruyff XI would beat any other "clone team" home and away every time!
Great job! Keep up the hard work
Thank you! Will do!
Had to cut out a bit at 3:31 where I described his incredible goal vs atletico, google it for real its insane
Bro make a video about rudd gullit plsss
The best ever JohanCruyff...Beckenbauer was a standing Football Player. but Cruyff was a Ferrari...Greetings from Dortmund
Great video
I always said he wore number 14 because he was as good as two number 7's put together. Genius player. Has a pre FIFA signature move named after him. Then became the coach who changed football for decades.
Could you do Paolo Maldini next? My favourite defender ever.
He is my favorite player of all time
The only thing Cruyff couldn't do with a football was make it talk, he could do everything else with it. He belongs in the elite group of footballing greats.
He roasted Leeds 😂😂😂😂😂
Had to be done 😂😂😂
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYT dont blame you. how times have massively changed
Great post! I would add "Two-Way" player to your ratings. This separates the offense players when they play more defense. Although, it's hard not to count goals for - which is very important to most forwards.
The impact he had on society after WWII, in terms of following a rule set, was unmatched…it’s hilarious and proper how militaries converted their ambitions into becoming a European FootBall team, which is a much better way of determining your worth… 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

3 Balon d'Or and 3 European Cups in a row is a unique trophy cabinet.
Thank you
In Europe in the 1970s he was considered no. 1, by far. Gerd Muller was the top efficient goalscorer. No comparison.
That's where you see the briljance of JC. Ajax had no need for him so he made Feyenoord champion. Seems easy, but it was epic. For the first time in 10 years. JC, everybody should have one ;-)
So good that Ajax would still be a small club and Barcelona would still be looking for their first European succes.
Fantastic retrospective! Succinct, but gives a true sense of the J.C.’s life and his immense contribution to “the beautiful game”. Many thanks...and much luck with your channel.
