Awesome goal scorer and overall, a superior forward IMO. But in terms of pure finishing genius, I rate Romario better. I've seen him deflect the ball into the goal every which way, from impossible angles. Just magic.
This is very topical. I saw Michael Owen say the other day that there has been a huge shift towards athleticism in football recently and that the skill level is not as high. I totally agree with him. Romario is a classic example of this, not a good trainer but an incredible level of natural ability and skill.
It's definitely true. I was watching the Real Madrid-Man City and Barcelona-PSG champions league semis and I couldn't get that out of my head. Everyone saying they were amazing semis and I was just thinking football was looking unimaginative. But I trust the talent will return to the top eventually. It's not the first time this happens, but talent always makes a comeback.
Romário is my spirit animal when it comes to fútbol. I always felt, even as a kid, that a lot of fans, journalists, and players love overcomplicating the game, where they forget the whole point of the game is to kick the ball into the net. You don't need Messi's moves to be lethal. I'm glad I'm not the only person that thinks this as Romário has displayed.
The hardest way to play football is to make it the simple way by Johan Cruyff. If you say Messi do not play like brazilian player with all those tricks move and somehow you say messi can not be great. Then see what cruyff said about it and many legends of the game with the same mind. Is more difficult to play a simple football than those tricks you talking about. What i mean is that Messi with speed body faint or just a simple move of the leg body or even your eyes to make enemy go fall or get pass is more difficult rather than tricks move. If you are or happen to play the game (football) then you will understand how hard it is to make it work in the game especially in high professional player level. I am not a messi fanboy but what is true is tru what is wrong is wrong... Even myself is so in love to brazilian play style jogo bonito, sometimes i try the trick many times. 😁 Thx u
@jaydee8926Yet he had a more successful and better career than them. If you think that doing tricks is what makes you the best, you're outrageously incorrect
I had the privilege to see Romario plays. He was something completely out of this world. This video makes real justice for the legend! And it isn't arrogance, if he had 10% of the care Cr7 has. We would see him with a crazy number of ballon d'ors and Fifa Best. In an era that has legends everywhere!
We are not... haha Romario is one of a kind. There is a classic story, where Ronaldo fled the "concentration" (I don't know if that is the right name in English, but it is the days before match, when players are only allowed to stay in the hotel and practice) and went partying with Romario one night before practice, and he tells this story laughing hard. When they came back, and went to practice, Romario was flying, scoring goals and dribbling, while a 19 year old Ronaldo was dragging on the field. He said that was the moment he realized he could never fill Romario's shoes in this area... haha Partying was Romario's potion of longevity.
Fun fact: Romario and Bebeto both became politicians and are still enemies and in the opposite sides, Romario called him a traitor recently and Bebeto said that Romario doesn’t act like a true man.
I know Romario is a top 5 all timer however, I didn’t realise he was a one man match winning machine everywhere he played! Not only that, he told the President’s when he’ll train, how many goals he’d score the next game - while partying like the Rolling Stones on tour in their heyday! I don’t think I’ve seen any ‘baller demonstrating such planet sized cojones! What a guy 👍🏻
What a legend he was (is). All PSV fans will remember him forever, he was a true magician on the pitch. Pure talent. Him and Gomez will never be forgotten in Eindhoven.

Thank you for this. For a long time I considered Romário as the best finisher I had ever seen in my life. Made goal scoring effortless. So smooth. Even when he went back to Brazil and played with Edmundo he was pretty lethal. Appreciate this content as it all happened when I was a young kid and I had no idea Romario and Bebeto were rivals. I remember them both scoring in that world cup.
Romario made me interested in football. I grew up right by Eindhoven but never really followed PSV, until they signed "the best player of the olympics" out of nowhere. This was a huge upset in transfer-land. And to keep him there for five years is unthinkable now. Half the locker room hated his guts too, but he was just so good that he was always forgiven. He called Linskens - the right winger - "a good horse" and Stan Valckx - the defender, and the one player in the team who spoke portuguese - "a blind camel"...people underestimate how sweet he could be too though, once you were his friend he would die for you. He still visits Eindhoven every once in a while and is revered as a legend, an icon. One of the absolute best players to ever play for PSV for sure. Obrigado Romario.
Maybe nothing, not every psicology is the same. He say it clearly he need to be happy to play his best. Same as maradona, ortega, dinho or ronaldo. For some people is better this way
How about Jorge Gonzalez? The most talented football player to come out from the Concacaf region to this day. Few people know about him to this day and he hardly trained. He almost scored the best goal of the 1982 World Cup tournament by leaving 4 belgian players in the dust (Belgium were european runners up at that time ) and knocked Mexico from going to the 1982 world cup despite having Hugo Sanchez (Mexicos best footballer of all time) on the mexican squad on his prime. Diego Maradona once said Gonzalez was more of a natural talent than he ever was and highly admired him because Gonzalez made some moves he could never do.
The best finisher I’ve ever seen. No one finished with so much style - it’s not just putting the ball in the back of the net, it’s how you do it. R9 was of course an incredible striker but he didn’t have the style or finesse of Romario. The greatest striker of all-time for me.
I had the privilege of watching this guy play with my own eyes and I can tell you, my friend... he was amazing! Ronaldinho appeared right after him and perhaps, because of this, his fame may have been a little diminished for the global public, but for the Brazilians, my friend... this guy has always been and will always be a legend.
Everyone remembers the story of when he asked Cruyff to miss two days of training so that he could go to the rio carnival. Then Cruyff said that if u score two goals the next match then he will get two days rest. You know what happened next...
that story is kinda fake btw, I didn't have the time to explained it in the video but a lot of pages claim Cruyff allowed him after 20 minutes, not true, not only did Cruyff not say that he let him leave mid match in his original story but Romário never even scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of a match for Barcelona, so Cruyff exagerated that. I think the actual match was the one vs Zaragoza in February 1994 and even then, well 6 days later he was already back in Barcelona, so he either hurried to get back from the Carnival or maybe it was never anything to do with the carnival at all, since even Cruyff only said "it must have been the carnival or something" implying that he wasn't sure
As a brazilian i have to say: no one after him was so fcking decisive, Romario was a monster ! Even ronaldo, or ronaldinho, or even Adriano wasn't so fcking goal scorer as him.
It's nearly 2 am. I just clicked the video, not wanting to watch it entirely, but to keep it in the watch history so that I could watch later. They was a great partnership the 94 World Cup was the apex of that Bebeto reserveness was the reason Romario could flourish My little brothers middle name is Romario no guesses for what year he was born That Brazil team of 94 wasn’t the best team of the tournament Italy had the best team in the world that year but the solidarity of the Brazil team along with bebeto and romarios partneship got them over the line Absolutely Epic Memories that will stay with me for life
@@thisisobviouslynotmyrealname It crazy they had the best defense ever because 2 of our best defenders ever were injured that year and missed the tournament. Ricardo Rocha and Ricardo Gomes! It just goes to show that the collective is more important than individual talent.
That World Cup goal against USA was the stuff of legends. Such a cagey match, Brazil down to 10 men... Then Romario assists Bebeto, Bebeto plants a kiss on Romario's his cheek, and at that point the lifelong rivals were the perfect duo. I was 8, and I saw football History unfold before my eyes.
After his return to Brazil, Romário's biggest rivalry was with Edmundo. They played together for Flamengo, Vasco and Fluminense, but their personalities always collided.
Right he focused a lot of the video on his rivalry with Bebeto and nothing was said about Edmundo. Them playing together is one of the reasons why Flamengo's Dream Team in 95 didn't work
Romario is barely 5'5'' tall and yet most of his goals in Holland were headers... which is insane because the average height of a Dutch defender is 6'2'.
If you watch closely most of these crosses or lofted passes were aimed at neck height that he didn't need to jump to hit the ball. It's not that he did crazy leap like Cannavaro or Puyol. Or otherwise they were rebounds.
There are some good stories about Romario's time in Valencia. Good stories followed him wherever he went. An absolute legend, and my personal favorite of the old class of legends.
1994 started as a really sad year in Brazil, with hyperinflation and the death of Senna. Roberto Baggio, during an interview, said Senna made him miss that penalty. We really needed that title, perhaps Argentina felt the same way last year.
Its a bit sad that people today don't get to see real football. Just re-tread sprinters with zero feel or touch. It blows my mind that between 1989 and 2010 we had so many amazing players. Each one a legend!
As a young boy from the Netherlands, I'll never forget his time at PSV. Even though being an Ajax fan from a very young age, Romário was something special. And his interviews from that time are legendary. 'Romário is een beetje koud' (saying in his funny Dutch that he was feeling cold as an excuse to not train). What a player
@@IgorCapablanca. Has to be Ronaldo. He was only 17 when he joined PSV and from the first moment, he was phenomenal and unstoppable Btw Ronaldo was going to Ajax but at the last moment the managers of PSV convinced him to change his mind
We still won the 2002 though, but it would’ve been great to see him lifting the trophy a second time. As for the 98, he def. could’ve made a difference. It’s beyond me why someone would choose to not let the best player be in the team out of ego.

It's a deficiency in football knowledge not knowing how great Romario was, 90% who know what a phenomenon he was comes only from South America, that is, almost the entire Globe has this deficiency knowledge about football The rare ones outside South America who know are the Dutch and Spanish fans of PSV and Barcelona As he preferred to make a career in Brazil, he ended up being underestimated in history Inside the penalty area on the football field he was the greatest in history, this part of the field he dominated, it was the essence of what it means to be a center forward , Striker, goal machine
Even though he has cost my club 2 titles and kicked my country out of the World Cup, I still love Romario. Sometimes football need players that break the fitness / tactics / discipline monotony. And remind this multi billion $$ industry that 1 or 2 good passes, a well timed run and some brilliant touch are all it takes to score.
Romario actually enjoyed great longevity. Part of that is actually because he didn't train as much. The trainers were all meatheads back then and had all the players do the same kind of phisical training. Why would a scorer run 10km? He needed sprints. Romario was actually ahead of his time and knew the right training he needed.
Lmao Romario I love that quote about pele at the end hahahaha. I didnt know he said that about pele ahahahah. Thank you for bringing back those last few memories when he was older. I wish i could have seen him when he was younger but i was faaar too young at that point.

Man, for me Romario is the best ever!! When I was a kid I always wanted ''to be him'' at football games we played in our neighborhood. Romario, Stoichkov, Bakero, Guardiola, Zubizaretta, Koeman, Guardiola, Sergi, Amor, M. Laudrup, Ferrer, Nadal... What a squad 93/94 Barcelona was!!!
Brilliant montage of the GOAT striker. Natural genius is so, so rare - he had it in buckets. As a 50 year + Ipswich Town supporter, if Sir Bobby Robson gave him the nod of approval that sealed it. TBH, and I stand to be corrected, if I had to think of one U.K player who had that 'natural genius goal scorer , it would be Matt le Tissier of Southampton FC - just look at some of the goals he scored (for fun it would seem at times) in his career, and they're not that far from Romario.
Bobby Robson, who managed him at PSV (then Ronaldo at Barcelona) discussed him in the Observerr before the 94 World Cup and said that despite his aversion to training, Romario was a magician that you couldn't leave out of your side. He likened him to a leopard, who would do nothing for most of the match, but when the right ball came along he would instinctively pounce on it, race to the opponents' goal and then put it in the back of the net in a flash - without fail. Sir Bobby rated Brazil's chances of winning WC94 very highly because they had Romario. He was right of course, as usual. I agree about Matt Le Tissier, who was incapable of scoring anything but extraordinary goals. A natural genius but not nearly as prolific or as lethal as Romario.... nobody was.
Maybe in Europe, but not in South America or Brazil. IF you ask 10 People if they prefer Romário or Ronaldo, 5 or 6 will tell you that Baixinho was better than Fenômeno.
Romario is the greatest player I ever see. If he said he was going to score goals, he did. Decisive, controversial and goalscorer. No one was the same.

Awesome goal scorer and overall, a superior forward IMO. But in terms of pure finishing genius, I rate Romario better. I've seen him deflect the ball into the goal every which way, from impossible angles. Just magic.
@@owenhershey13 Thank you for explaining your perspective
@@anuragchakraborty8766 I appreciate your good question Anurag!
@@owenhershey13 My pleasure :)
It’s funny to see players like him.
Thx u
@jaydee8926Yet he had a more successful and better career than them. If you think that doing tricks is what makes you the best, you're outrageously incorrect

A true spirit of Brazilian football .Best one on one with the goalkeeper finisher of all time ..
One of the most underrated players, not talked about enough
Something no ones talks about, Diego Maradona and Romario have the same style on the pitch. Amazing!
I have talked repeatedky. Romario is Maradona of the box.
When you watch the 1989 Copa between Maradona and Romario you see the ressemblance
Romario has a great deal of respect for Maradona, one of the players that inspired him in the yourh.
Brazilian Maradona
“The night is my friend” 😭 Nah Brazilians are built different
We are not... haha
Romario is one of a kind.
Fun fact: Romario and Bebeto both became politicians and are still enemies and in the opposite sides, Romario called him a traitor recently and Bebeto said that Romario doesn’t act like a true man.
hahahhahahahahhhaha... this is soooo much funny! thanks for sharing hahahhaha

Thanks for speaking on my behalf too cos I was literally speechless!
@@feliperaicherthleite8633 I dont rate R9 higher, maybe in terms of talent, I think more like 1. Pele 2. Zico 3. Garrincha 4. Romario 5. R9
What a legend he was (is). All PSV fans will remember him forever, he was a true magician on the pitch. Pure talent. Him and Gomez will never be forgotten in Eindhoven.
Romario sir is a living legend despite his partying lifestyle but his legendary status mainly at Vasco Da Gama and PSV Eindhoven and his goalscoring prowess made him an icon of the sport to be existed, good friends!!!LONG LIVE ROMARIO SIR!!!🏋♂️
Romario was so incredibly unbelievable, thanks for making this video about him, love you daily dose of football! ❤❤
Romario was genious. If he was more professional, we have no idea what he could earn, but we wouldnt have so many funny stories. ; )
Maybe nothing, not every psicology is the same. He say it clearly he need to be happy to play his best. Same as maradona, ortega, dinho or ronaldo. For some people is better this way
@@german18072Ronaldo is still the second best goal scorer at the world cup with 2 world cup trophies at only 27 years old. What a talent.
At this point Bebeto needs his own story

Romario is, undoubteky, the greatest football player I´ve ever seen. Every defense lines trembled when he was with the ball.
Romario is a freaking legend!!! Thx for this video!
Even Cruyff used to Tell that story. Witch is weird because it never happened
that story is kinda fake btw, I didn't have the time to explained it in the video but a lot of pages claim Cruyff allowed him after 20 minutes, not true, not only did Cruyff not say that he let him leave mid match in his original story but Romário never even scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of a match for Barcelona, so Cruyff exagerated that.
@@DailyDoseOfFootballYTAh, ok . Thanks for letting me know

As a brazilian i have to say: no one after him was so fcking decisive, Romario was a monster ! Even ronaldo, or ronaldinho, or even Adriano wasn't so fcking goal scorer as him.

Them playing together is one of the reasons why Flamengo's Dream Team in 95 didn't work
Romário is an enlightened genius, with a beautiful Heart!... 😎👊🙏💖
the goal scoring capability of this man is out of this world
I love how you weave every phrase with so much passion.

But nowhere near as many
@@SCARAMONGER_ True .. which shows again that Romario was in a league of his own.
A natural genius but not nearly as prolific or as lethal as Romario.... nobody was.
