- It took a while and a lot of editing, but here it is, at this point, the copyright check is all clear. My review of the second rebuild of Evangelion movie, You Can [not] Advance, far longer than the first movie review because this movie strays heavily from the original series.

Rei with the knife is a gag, it's showing that her attempting to cook is as big a deal to her as preparing to murder someone would be to a normal person. Or at least that's how I see it.
The Tenth Angel really was a huge difficulty spike. Was that fight even playtested?

Neon Genesis Evangelion nearly drove me to suicide.
Seeing Shinji suffering is like seeing myself suffer, because at one point in time I was almost exactly like him, especially back in 10th grade when I was bullied to the brink of suicide. I simply cannot tolerate watching Eva. I felt forced to relive my trauma upon viewing it. I’m deathly afraid of it. Twice I had a nightmare where I saw myself as Shinji choking Asuka and starting the Third Impact. I’ve been struggling with this newfound depression ever since.
I was obsessed with the series for over a year to try and outwit the isolation of the Coronavirus pandemic. It only increased the burden, and kept the memory of my friend’s recent suicide alive.
Watching the End of Evangelion was like peering into a broken mirror, and I was viewing the hell I would’ve put myself through had things turned out differently, had I decided to give up living. It still haunts me to this day.
Sometimes I hate myself because I fail to appreciate what so many have claimed to idolize, and I beat myself further for failing to worship what they call praiseworthy, I forced myself to watch a show that reminded me of nothing but pain just so I wouldn’t be alone anymore, I was willing to sacrifice my individuality for some company amidst the isolation of the pandemic.
I sought emotional refuge in the Evangelion fandom on social media, hoping they’d understand me and provide me with answers that would grant me peace of mind. Instead, they downplayed my trauma, going so far as to spread a rumor of my past to shame me of my mental illness, spiraling me deeper into depression, which I’ve been struggling with for over two years now.
I just want Shinji to be happy, so this past self of mine can be laid to rest once more. I’m afraid to decouple myself from him after losing my friend to suicide, which Eva made me feel responsible for, especially when I saw Shinji kill Kaworu, of which I fail to understand how anyone can call it praiseworthy. Until then, I feel nothing else matters.
There’s a reason why I keep coming back to Evangelion; something that reminds me of nothing but pain.
I want to prove to myself I’m not crazy for feeling this way, that Evangelion really did force me to relive my trauma, that my depression is not just a figment of my imagination or another anime plot point. I want to feel that my fear and resentment towards Eva is justified.
But the fact I’m the only one I know in existence who’s been traumatized by an anime makes me feel like I really am crazy.
But finally, with 3.0+1.0 released, I can rest easy knowing that Shinji has finally reached the light at the end of the tunnel. Evangelion is finished, and I want it to remain that way.
But if things hadn’t turned out that way, I wouldn’t be here today.

i really love your "i dont f*cking know what happens" humor. It is so hard to understand every single aspect of Evangelion.

Hilarious and honest evaluation. Do you think Anno gave these characters - especially Rei and Asuka - better arcs primarily for creativity or because he wanted them to connect with the audience better than they did in the anime?
I think it's because they wanted Rei and Asuka to have more of a relationship than just Asuka thinks Rei is a doll and then Rei acts like a doll.
Asuka's arc in the show was way better. I agree on Rei though.
I really like your style of reviewing Eva, you have a unique perspective of not having seen the original show first so it's entertaining to see how different the show appears to others. Thank you for hard work.
Shinjis pullout game so strong it almost ended the world
That moment when Rei was cooking 🔪 kinda reminded me of that scene in NGE were she just floats above Kaworu and watchs him almost start the third impact
But I still don't understand why kaworu wouldn't have merged with lilith, if rei can absorb lilith and be conscious to make her decision, then why couldn't kaworu, after all he is an angel, he should've known something like this, but still how could he not have known that Adam wasn't in terminal dogma, he is an angel he should've been able to track him down or be omniscient about Adam's whereabouts.
I know that the authors just wanted a reason for kaworu to give up, but still, Eva after all had some pretty bad writing

Actually, his angelic instinct would just compel him to contact with Lilith, but he actually believed that those who were born of Adam should return to Adam, even though just right before he prepares to merge with Adam (which is actually Lilith) he has shown doubt in his belief. Also apparently Kaworu merging with Lilith would just be as bad as with Adam, there is virtually no possible differences.
Kaworu may have interpreted Seele's line as meaning that Gendo had become one with part of Adam. The Evas are already of the same body as Kaworu and Adam, couldn't the thing that Gendo had absorbed be similar?
@@ratansu9081 that's not bad writing, that's you making baseless assumptions then criticising the plot for not operating under those baseless assumptions.
You don't know that kaworu fusing with lilith would have the same effect as rei doing it (in fact it definitely wouldn't, rei is able to fuse with lilith in the way she did because she is lilith soul placed into a human vessel, whereas Kaworus soul came from adam), and there's no reason to assume the angels know where Adam is and aren't just drawn to lilith instead.
I've watched 2.0 several times. Went into details as well.. but here for the narration hahaha.. just loving how you express everything with a curse. 😂

Fuck me. I've just realized I love your reviews. The same scene from 2:58 got me awesomized and the same scene with Rei holding this killer knife made me terrified for a second in a strange way. Mari Makinami is probably one of the most useless characters I've ever seen. She is basically Captain Phasma of the Rebuild of Evangelion.
That might be one of the best ways to describe her I've seen.
Yeah but at least she gets better fight scenes? They gave her some more for 3.0 onwards, not much but hey I think at least a bit better than Phasma. I can't remember anything about Phasma but you bet I remember how Mari is an unusual polyglot that likes reading books with a memorable entrance.

To me she seems like one of the few characters in EVA that knows what she wants and knows how to go about making it happen. After she comes out of the entry plug she let's us know that she was the one using Rio not he using her. Idk I like her, and I like rebuild Rei especially her line - It's a secret I'll tell you later. A 180 from anime Rei.

Also im highly guessing at 15:01 Shinji actually pressed his Entry Plug closer to the core (Kind of what happened with Unit-02) causing their synchronization ratio to skyrocket
