Saw this on stream, and it's still pretty mind blowing. Never thought I'd ever see this series on GDQ, and now I've seen it twice in a year. Amazing work, Vaxherd.
To this day I consider the Cave on the Necrogond to be one of the hardest RPG dungeons ever made. Anyone else been like 2 or 3 steps away from completing it...at full health...and ambush attacked by five Frost Clouds which proceed to cast five blizzard spells and kill your entire party before you even get a turn? Or had 4 Shadows cast 4 defeat spells? Or 3 Skeletons numb your whole party? I have. All of the above. Many, many times.
Happened to me recently in DQ4… 6 enemies that are recolors of the Chapter 1 boss “wielded Lightning staffs” at once and instakilled Ragnar, Maya, and Kiryl… while we were OVER-leveled.
For me the hardest part was the cave south of the village of elves. 5 Deadly Toadstools all breathing sweet breath in the first round putting everyone to sleep, lots of deadly toadstool battle encounters.
I was not even 10 when this game got out, and couldn't even speak or really understand english well, mostly looked at my mom play this game and i just repeated it. Learned english playing all those games. Fun to see it sped run.
This is amazing! Mad props to the runner and the couch for that crazy. This game, no kidding, took me about a week straight to beat about 2 decades ago!
These videos are like taking an online college course..... can learn so much, i don't quite understand it but it's interesting as hell! Guess you could call it old SCHOOL nintendo :)
Pixel perfect platforming skill honed to a vorpal edge are cool and all, but this shit is my jam. I love all the esoteric RNG manipulation and save file fuckery that really breaks games.
Eu gosto de herois de RPG porque muitos deles dormem empunhando a espada e escudo xD Talvez devesse fazer isso na vida real. Quem sabe viraria um heroi também? xP
@@SickInTheHeadINC Obviously doing what I did in my playthrough and spawning in 114 int seeds is. Really I should've gone with a word like normally or "In Typical Fashion" But Legitimately was already in the autocomplete bar. Oh well.
Actually fell asleep during this run despite it being in the middle of the day. Don't get me wrong, having such knowledge of the game is pretty impressive and the execution has to be top-notch to pull off those glitches...but it's a good 45 minutes of cycling through menus and running back and forth. Not exactly high-octane viewing. :^)
It's all in the soup: I fell asleep during the second Transformers movie, while watching in the theater. Something about information overload makes the brain go "eeh, let me know when it's over."
Runner introduction starts at 00:07. Run starts at 1:38.

You have no idea how much I appreciate these little things, very thoughtful and convenient.

44:56 That Metal Babble surprised though.

Ahh, memories.
Now imagine doing that, in a solo playthrough.
its not hard if you know where to go. Plus it relies on cheap tactics (enemy spamming) to make itself hard. Infact the entire game does

I learned a lot of English as a kid from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest 😂
When there's something strange
in your gaming code...
who you gonna call?
Ghost party.
Wit and Courage have served thee well, Thou hast watched many a level up...

This explanation proves that Baramos is an absolute savage. "Trying to RNG manip me?! Mess up and I'll send an INFINITE SWARM OF MONSTERS!!!"

Puwexil! Much love to my favorite runner!
how the hell do speed runners figure out the RNG??? it blows my lvl 1 mind.
Usually it involves looking through code. People who make TAS usually help figure out RNG
A combination of trial and error and reverse engineering the game’s code.
My ring tone for text messages is the level up music from Dragon Warrior III.
Everything about this was completely bonkers. I salute you.
Fantastic run! Very informative and fun to watch, thanks!
Please God i am so excited for this gdq. Dragon Quest games? sign me UP!!
This game is my childhood. Excellent job beating it in such a short time.
This is mind blowing, I’m amazed at your skill in destroying my third favourite dragon quest game, great job!
I wanna see a DQ2 speedrun! Maybe i'll be more usefull.
Ok So funny story, at one point in the story my prince of Cannock actually did more sword damage than Middenhall lmao

My favorite DQ game, my boy NesCard on the couch, and a great run by vaxherd!
Now I know where Final Fantasy Mystic Quest got the idea of making the final boss weak to heal from...
Programming for the impossible is a great thing.
All star lineup from runner to couch to commentator, damn dude.

Awesome stuff as always Vaxherd
it took me almost a year to beat this game as a kid.
I keep sitting here thinking I'm going to get used to puwexil's speech patterns, but it still sticks out
Would this mean one of these four brave slimes goes on to have their own game in Rocket Slime?
I saw Ortega win that battle, but it was on an emulator.
Ok, I'm impressed. Very interesting.
I loved this game
Command?
Command?
Command?
Command?!
Command?
Command?
That was amazing to watch! Now do it with Goof Offs.
This game kept me busy for weeks. It was really satisfying to watch it get a whuppin.
upon command my mind was blown away!
Was great, minus time spent on that leveling screen ;)

did he ever explain why he set the message speed to slow
I've been wondering what RNG meant. thanks
Nerds.
Fear them.
Badass
medical herb on zoma? lol wtf?
Can you actually remain ghosts and go through the game dead?
Holy shit, what a way to destroy this game.

I think that’s awesome, how did you feel hearing it on stream
COMMAND?
Command? Go up to the next level. Repeat.
wait you can speedrun this game?
Nice run by Rimaru ;)

Teria que ficar sem banho, também
I'd rather see a non-glitch speedrun.
Then go watch a glitchless speedrun.
Still easier than playing legitimately.
What defines legitimate play?

Fair enough. I had many arguments prepared for other answers. Have an excellent day.

While this is impressive, I completely agree with you.
