Both sound fantastic
How is the noise level for the JCM800? I have had a Mesa Dual Rect, a Peavey 6505, an Orange Dark Terror, and now Ive had my Orange Thunderverb since 2015. It's EXTREMELY quiet, even at max gain without a noise gate through the loop. The Mesa and Peavey were super noisy. Is the JCM pretty quiet without a noise gate in the loop?
@@josefpdx my combo is very gone through and well taken care of, and it doesn't much self noise at all.
But at this age, it'll be a case by case basis depending on a bunch of factors, one being how well it's been maintained.
My 2203 had more low end and my 2210 had more mids (both in a good way).
Both amps sound great, although I much prefer the 2203. I don't know how so many players get such good sounds out of their 2205/2210 amps. I have a 1989 2210 and no matter what I do it sounds like a solid-state amp with a phony/bloated bass, flat mids and spikey treble. Not even close to my 1984 2204 and 1972 Super Lead amps. I'm curious about the settings you use on your 2205.
Thanks man. The 2203 sure sounds more open in the room, the 2205 has more compression to it, probably because of those diodes in the preamp. I keep the treble and mids under halfway at all times, 3 on the dial is the sweet spot I think, else it sounds very trebly and flat indeed.
@@InDecemberOfficial Yeah...those dastardly clipping diodes! I can't put the bass over 2 or 3 at the most or the amp is nearly unplayable and the presence also seems to work on a different frequency compared to the older Marshall amps. I know the switcher amps' tone controls run off the plate as where the older amps' tone controls are cathode baaed. That probably makes a difference too. I wonder if there's a way to bypass the diodes. It's funny...I've found that 3 and 7 seem to be the sweet spot for a lot of Marshall amp models.
