  • Rex Grossman's sophomore season at the University of Florida was one of the greatest seasons a quarterback has ever had. www.sports-refe...
    Grossman passed for over 300 yards in nine consecutive games. He led the nation in passing efficiency, passing completion percentage and yards per attempt. A consensus All-American, Rex was voted the AP Player of the Year and came in second in the Heisman voting. At the time his 55 TD passes through his sophomore season were the most in NCAA history.

    Grossman should have won the Heisman that year.

      He got robbed. Crouch had a very unspectacular year, but backed into the title game after they got blasted by Colorado. That was back when they simply didn't give Heismans to sophomores. Such a shame.

      Florida lost 2 games by 5 points! Auburn 23 Florida 20, Tennessee 34 Florida 32.

      Grossman was the best QB Florida has ever had. He was a legit talent, not noodle armed like Palmer and Johnson, undersized like Leak, or a gimmick like Tebow. Crouch won the Heisman because of the plays against Missouri and Oklahoma. All Rex had to do was beat Tennessee, and he had it AND they would have gotten to play Miami for a championship.

    This is back when the Gators had the best wide receivers in the nation, hands down. Nobody was close when it came to consistency..... I miss these days. But hey, rebuilding for next season. GO GATORS!!!!

    @knoeful This 2001 Florida team was the best two loss team in the history of college football. I'm a South Carolina fan, and we were a good team in '01 and Florida absolutely destroyed us in our house in front of 85,000 rabid fans. I'm not sure this wasn't Spurrier's best Florida team, even better than the 1996 version.

    • @michaelschaefer1904

      Spurrier said it was his best team, but I'm not sure they beat Miami that year. If good Rex showed up, it would have been an epic game.

    @bull864 I remember that "Black Out" night in Columbia, such excitement when the Gamecocks took the lead but it didn't turn out the way the home-folks intended as the Gators scored on something like nine straight possessions. The 2001 Florida team sure was fun. I've continued to be a Spurrier fan.

  • @bull864
    @bull864 12 лет назад +2

    @flashbang11 Actually, that year Florida lost to Auburn in a tropical storm and somehow lost to Tennessee. They were every bit as good as Miami, and I don't think Clarett arrived at OSU until 2002.

    3:06 it's amazing what an accurate QB can do for your team. A lot of guys could get the ball there on that play but WR would have to adjust resulting in the safety making a tackle. Grossman hits him in perfect stride which lets him burn the safety

    @bull864 You're right, Miami beat Nebraska & Eric Crouch in the 2001 championship game at the Rose Bowl. In both of their losses that year the Gators were without running back Ernest Graham. Nebraska, like Alabama this year, played in the national championship game without having played in their conference championship game.

    Spurrier leaving had nothing to do with inability to win at Florida, albeit with the most talented roster he ever had. It had much more to do with his toxic relationship with Jeremy Foley, which went completely under the radar. Foley would never stand up for the OBC when the latter needed him to.
