When you look back at this game it’s hard to believe the odds makers had a #4 ranked Tennessee team that had the following players (all drafted in the first 3 rounds of the NFL) on it as a 17 point dog: - Jason Witten - Donte Stallworth - Kelley Washington - John Henderson - Albert Haynesworth - Kevin Burnett - Julian Battle - Will Overstreet - Fred Weary I might even be missing some. Just a team filled with NFL talent. Oddsmakers got to caught up with UT’s struggles against UF when setting that line.
This was definitely the peak of the Florida-Tennessee rivalry. The final head to head meeting between Steve Spurrier and Philip Fulmer. The crazy part, despite Tennessee winning, they were upset the following week by LSU and lost out on a BCS Bowl altogether, despite getting this win here. Florida, despite coming up short, still got to go to the Orange Bowl in Spurrier's final send off which was drubbing over Maryland.
Big Gator fan here, I was at the game and mad as HELL....I give Tennessee big prop not by winning but going to the SWAMP with 17 points underdog .....like I said, I was mad as HELL
I am also guessing this past “2022 Season” has also made you madder than HELL. Losses to both Kentucky and Vanderbilt within the same season. Looks like the “Ron Zook 2.0” Years have begun at UF.
The SEC Championship defeat against LSU was brutal considering the stakes, but ruining the gators' shot at a natty at their house was the sweetest Vol victory in my lifetime. Nothing is better in this world than crying Florida fans and a frustrated Spurrier. And we did it running right down their throat and suffocating defense, brilliant football.
@@DT-un3bu Until they lost to unranked South Carolina. I have a feeling Tennessee’s big return to glory is going to be short lived along with the beginning of a brand new losing streak to Alabama next (2023) Season.
If we want to discuss poor officiating, perhaps the inclusion of the two clear fumbles by Grossman (yet Florida was allowed to retain possession) would be worth mentioning.
@@justinwashington7076 Okay Washington I'm going to give you that... But that was 1st down with 27 seconds to go. Not one play for the win. I love how Tennessee fans try to act like they would have won the game if Gaffney was called incomplete. Guess you forgot the worst offensive PI call on the play just before that.
@@justinwashington7076 So the refs should hand Tennessee a game because of one bad call. No they should have done they're job. Like I said Gaffney gets called incomplete.. 2nd and goal from the 3 yard line with 27 seconds. I like Florida's chances of scoring the game winning touchdown.
Travis. Stephens. Too bad I didn’t get too see this since I was born in ‘03 😂. As much as I would love to see this Saturday I know that’s not realistic.
@@justamaninTN I was born in 94, so I remember Clausen and the general feel of vol football for that time. Remember being a fan my whole life, but the first win I remember was in 04 when Wilhoit kicked a 50 yarder to beat the Gaytors. I was 10 obviously, but I didn't realize I would be 22 the next time we beat them.... I remember the 06 and 07 teams. They were good. Kiffin brought hope. then Dooley zapped all life. Butch was a farce. It was nice to be 5-0 in 2016, but the last half of that year KILLED ME. Hardly watched in 17 and 18. Now im as orange as I can be! Pruitt is gonna do it!

Greatest win the Vols have had this century. That Florida team was absolutely elite. Definitely could’ve won the title if we didn’t upset them.
IceMan nobody was beating Miami hurricanes in 2001
SavagetigerFBfan We don’t know that. Plenty of supposedly “unbeatable” teams have gotten smack around in NC games.
@@joshg2350 I'm a Vols fan and I have to say Miami was to loaded with NFL talent Fl or TN was not gonna beat them.
They didn't win the title.
@Timothy S. EMERY
Some guy named Nick Saban won his 1st sec championship. In hindsight I don't feel as bad about that loss as I used to.

Me too…this one really hurt…Spurrier should of won a title with this team
Where in the world could we ever find another big Jon Finleyson?? This Tennessee team brought the beef.. one of my all time favorite Tennessee teams..

Lost because Robert Gillespie is one of the worst running backs in UF modern day football. Guy couldn't break a tackle to save his life.
I wish Tennessee was still this competitive
Finally are and in haply(not a Vol fan but good for college football)

Gaffney got held! Should have been a call! lot of holding Florida wide outs in this game!
Shed me a tear

This was a great year for the Vols. Well, except for stinking up the SEC title game which they should have won.
That game was so awesome Tennessee hadn't beat Florida in the swamp in and It was a great win for the vols
