This game right here has to be one of the signature moments in Florida football. Everything looks bleak in the first half. Then both our offense and defense put on a clinic in the second half. Manning was supposed to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated following this game. Instead, Sir Danny Wuerffel took those honors and rightfully so lol. What an amazing performance.
Sports Illustrated followed Payton all week long in preparation for this game and sent a bunch of photographers on Saturday. Danny ended up on the cover that next week with the title, "Attack of the Gators - Danny Wuerffel and Florida Swamp Tennessee." Love it!
Only Steve Spurrier would point out the way the Tennessee Band could not wait until after the Alma Mater to start playing. I sure do miss him as the Gator's Coach. God Bless SOS!
Those were the days when every time Florida touched the ball you expected a score. I don't care what happened after college, Wuerffel was magic and his supporting cast was epic.
Not just warfel was magic. He really was a great college football. That team was so stacked especially on offense but our defense was good too. Anthony, Hilliard, Chris doering who I had the pleasure of coaching in high school. Fred Taylor, Jackson and a crazy good offensive line. If you notice every time warfel is in the pocket and pressure starts he can step up and that is due to that great offensive line. As the great Steve Spurrier said pitch-and-catch
I remember this game. I called this one the "The Tail of Two Cities". Knoxville at half time: "We totally got this, Final will be around 62-37". Knoxville after the game: "I can't believe we lost by 25". Gainesville: "Well, You did".
This reminds me of growing up in the 70s and 80s. My team (Ole Miss) was so bad we were never on tv. Radio was all you had. And great broadcasters like this had your brain working to visualize what was happening. Back then the SEC had the greatest.
It was live on ABC but Sunshine Network did a broadcast of the game which was shown on Sunday mornings. Sunshine had David Steele (former Voice of the Gators until he left for the Orlando Magic) and the color analyst was a former UF player in the 70s who played for the Miami Dolphins and I can't recall his name. The other audio heard was Mick Hubert on the Gator Radio Network. And at the very end, the guy interviewing Spurrier was Steve Babik, the radio sideline reporter. A few years later he was busted and sent to federal prison on a child pornography conviction. Babik was a Penn State graduate, for the record.
5:45 is the reason I loved playing defensive back instead of wide receiver. Its much better to be the dude doing the hitting than the dude getting drilled. As always Giant Gator, thank you so much for taking the time, over and over, to post these games for us. Tennessee is our bitch. The quite literally have the worst colors in the history of sports teams uniforms.
Had this been played in more recent times, the game would have been suspended for the lightning strikes. So who knows how that would have affected things. All that said, it was one of the most fun games I've watched at the Swamp. I was in my junior year, had a seat in the northeast corner of the stadium, about 20 rows or so up. I must admit when it was 30-14 I was not confident in a comeback. But the Gator boys absolutely crushed Tennessee in the 2nd half. When it started raining that was some really serious rain. Everything on my person, right down to money in my wallet was soaked! I will never forget this one! And neither will Lawrence Wright or Joey Kent. 🤣
Lol, you've gotta love Spurrier at the end there! And how about Mick's call @ 11:10 for Wuerffel to Anthony...God I miss that Mick Hubert natural enthusiasm.
I always thought that family dinners for the Mannings must have been interesting, since, IIRC, Eli Manning DID beat the Gators, something that the vaunted Peyton never did. LOL. Eli definitely had the bragging rights there, even though Peyton was overall better.
Haha..One of my favorite wins over the Vols [besides the 2000&2006 games]....We were so loaded in 95....luckily that rain didnt start falling until the game was outta reach though....I think Manning would of won a title if he had more around him....Thanks 4 the upload...[still waiting for that 2000 South Carolina/Florida game...haha]
Shit, those teams Peyton played on were loaded as much, if not more, than these Florida teams. He would've won a title if he didn't have to play us every year. I wonder which team had more talent and which team was better between the 95 Gators and the 96 Gators?
In short , the west coast offense cost Tennessee dearly in their reign of dominance. There o line was good , but you have to be dominant and pounding the ball short distances to make a run at a naty. Florida always has great athletes with speed. Nebraska showed them both what football IS ! The SEC will always be running game and defense. Great Quarterbacks are good. Just don't forget the basics.
You think it would? You are probably right, although its BS because he clearly hit him in the chest, where you are supposed to. They say not to lead with your helmet but that is almost ALWAYS what you lead with when tackling or hitting someone you know? There is no way around that and I understand the need to try and eliminate head injuries but still.
Steve Spurrier was like George Patton. He may have been an ass. However, when the chips were down and you need a tactical genius to save your bacon. Who you gonna call?
I have a friend. (James Wood) who was a QB at UF during 90-91 season. The Players Loved Spurrier. He was'nt an ass... His mouth was not born with a filter for his thoughts.lo.. Everyone has 'ass like' thoughts. Spurrier just did'nt know how to keep them in his head rather than on National TV. lol.
Manning and Wuerffel came to the NFL with old school coaches Jim Mora and Mike DItka. I Manning made it more of a point to study and master the game on his own, because Mora used to really get on his ass. Wuerffel didn't have Spurrier anymore, and Mike DItka wasn't really about throwing the football so much.
Funny thing about watching these games so many players on defense would be thrown out of games today with the hits. Also catch by florida in end zone refs didnt see player never got feet down he landed out of bounds would not count in todays game
I bet you SEC coaching legends such as Bear Bryant, Shug Jordan, John Vaught, and General Neyland were all either rolling over in their graves or cringing (In the case of Coach Vaught, who was alive at the time of this game) at the sight of this game.

This may be one of my favorites all time.I live in Knox, and at half the whole population on me.Whole city of Knoxville was a library in that 2nd half
Sports Illustrated followed Payton all week long in preparation for this game and sent a bunch of photographers on Saturday. Danny ended up on the cover that next week with the title, "Attack of the Gators - Danny Wuerffel and Florida Swamp Tennessee." Love it!
Mad genius Spurrier. Totally the right coach for Florida's talent set.
Only Steve Spurrier would point out the way the Tennessee Band could not wait until after the Alma Mater to start playing. I sure do miss him as the Gator's Coach. God Bless SOS!
One of the best games in the Swamp ever. Classic.
Steve Spurrier will always be a Gator!!!
Those were the days when every time Florida touched the ball you expected a score. I don't care what happened after college, Wuerffel was magic and his supporting cast was epic.
Wuerffel was an all time great collegiate QB.
Not just warfel was magic. He really was a great college football. That team was so stacked especially on offense but our defense was good too. Miss these days when no matter how much some other team scored you always though Florida could score more.
I was there in the student section - right behind the Tennessee band. Boy did they love us! ;)
This reminds me of growing up in the 70s and 80s. My team (Ole Miss) was so bad we were never on tv. Radio was all you had. And great broadcasters like this had your brain working to visualize what was happening. Back then the SEC had the greatest.
In this game Florida showed tennessee how to come back from a large deficit. The following year they showed them how to hold onto one.
I never knew there was an alternate broadcast of this game. I remember watching this back in ‘95 on ABC
It was live on ABC but Sunshine Network did a broadcast of the game which was shown on Sunday mornings. Ike mfin Hilliard!!! 4 touchdowns??? For a wide receiver that's insane against a top 10 team that's also your rival
The king of halftime adjustments.
Well, don’t over analyze it that much. The two fumbles by Jay Graham were big time individual defensive plays… offensive miscues
That 4th quarter run by Jackson would have been reviewed and called a TD in todays game. He rolled right off the defender and into the endzone.
An SEC game with 99 points in 1995 is CRAZY!

OMG yes! I've been waiting for this game forever. I've searched high and low with no avail until now. Thank you for posting!!
I love how many points the OBC put on all those overrated Manning-led Vol teams.
HBC
That hit on Kent by Wright would still be legal today.
1:55 and 8:45 is the pass play that Florida ran SO MUCH under Spurrier and no one seemed to ever have it covered. That and the Fade route.
Well, I really dont think it was possible to cover/defend the 'Florida Fade' with DW's uncanny accuracy on deep balls.
@@leekeyser1968 Weurffel and Spurrier were like Jordan and Pippen together.

This is when Peyton looked like Frankenstein Jr
Great upload! One of the best Florida-Tennessee games. Keep them coming!
Lol, Spurrier played Fulmer like he was chasing a dollar on a hook. Almost had it. . .
5:44 Mr. Kent meet Mr. Wright
One of my favorite hits
This was manning best team in his 4 years! Only 1 loss team he played on.
What a great comeback! I was hoping you would post this game.
Lol, you've gotta love Spurrier at the end there! And how about Mick's call @ 11:10 for Wuerffel to Anthony...God I miss that Mick Hubert natural enthusiasm.
Can you possibly do a video for the 2006 Outback Bowl between Iowa and Florida?
I sold cokes in the stands this year. That stadium was LOUD!!!! Go Gators
Those were my favorite tennessee uniforms !!
Manning never beat the Gators.
And Waffle sucked in the pros, funny how things turn out
@@BAYAREA-kd1ig Which, as a Gator fan (not a Saints fan) never has bothered me. Go Gators!

What's funny is Tennessee won the Natty the year after Peyton left.
Wuerffel was 2-0 vs Manning in the pros .
the good old days

I was there! Those were some fun days.
Manning used to shout "Spurrier" during audibles, at least during practice lol in the NFL.
Sucks that the hit at 5:45 would probably be considered "illegal" today

I remembered Florida gators had a very good passing game. Florida would put it to you
62-37? Jesus Christ, 99 points scored during that game!
thanks Neil oh my
Who is the commentator in the first part of the game? He sounds familiar but I can't figure out who it is.
When did Spurrier get coined as THE OL BALL COACH?
The 90's, then he said he didn't like it and offered Head Ball Coach or HBC to replace it.
@@mikeschmidt4800 Thank you kind sir
Fun -n- Gun at its best..
My uncle nicknamed Spurrier the evil genius

hate to see spurrier retire.

Manning's teammates use to take a dump on him. I remember that. Always letting him down.
Is this what Peyton get from Tennessee not a good record. But who's better wuefferl or manning
Destini Jenkins College wise Wuerffel NFL wise Manning

Fulmer Fudd
Another example how Spurrier was 10x the coach Fulmer was.
6:17 Al Wilson ha
55 fumbles no wonder Peyton never best Florida
It would be great if we had the entire game or less edited
Make one yourself you ungrateful pud

Why the Fuck did I just watch this whole thing? Go Vols
… only loss Tennessee had that year.
Vols return this weekend with run up score on florida go vols
Manning just couldn't never do it
60+ burger
Peyton Manning was 0-4 against the Florida Gators 👍

You know The Bear called Florida a sleeping giant in the 1970's I believe.
Steve Spurrier had a horrible NFL career
