Dryya is one of the Great Knights, the legendary defenders of Hallownest. She served the White Lady, and can be found dead outside of her cocoon, serving the best she could until her bitter end. And that's all she is now... but she used to be a lot more in early drafts of the game. Enjoy :)
I am making a series of Hollow Knight Shorts that go over some fun facts in the game, some basic tutorial things, and just generally interesting details of our favorite Metroidvania. Let me know if there is anything I should make a video on!

It would have been a cool fight for sure, but I think that lore-wise, it made more sense for her character to get the death that she received in the game as we know it. Maybe they could have made it a dream nail fight. I just prefer the idea of her dying to protect the queen; Traitor Lord is already "possessed by madness" as it were.

I like this too. And the Queen didn’t even know she was gone - I love the vague, subtle and tall tale approach to their lore building. We sort of had to put these pieces together ourselves and the rest of it is truly something of myth and legend -
Very much like our own history in a lot of ways. It’s just brilliantly done.
Its clear that she got replaced by the Traitor Lord. The Traitor lord was infamously underdeveloped on initial release, needing to be reworked in one of the major DLC updates. I think the Traitor lord was added pretty late in development.
The way they describe her canceled boss fight remind me of how Lace's fight looks like in Silksong. They probably recycled some of their old designs

Makes sense. Imo the Traitor lord was one of the less interesting bosses- basically just a mantis traitor with a bigger hit box, two extra attacks, and dealt heavy damage.
So like the mantis lords, she doesn't just randomly assault you and she actually offers a challenge
the mantis lords have class. she would have had class. hell prehaps that forth seat was meant for her

I know it's not the same as official TC content, but a mod adding bossfights to all Great Knights is on the working (and hopefully release soon) under the name of pale court
I was also thinking about this mod while watching the video.

I wish we could have fought more of the five great knights instead of just the dung defender, definitely sounds like a tough fight too and would be awesome to see her fight against hornet or maybe she trained hornet before her death

The sheer amount of will she must have had to still accepts duals while driven mad is just wow. She must have stayed there protecting her queen for ages but even after that she still wanted to fight fairly.

This was one of things that I was hoping was going to be a part of the Godmaster update.
On a lighter note, I recall hearing that there is a fanmade mod in the works that seeks to introduce all 5 of the Great Knights as boss fights. I forget how long ago I first heard about it, but I assume it’s still in development, so perhaps we may still get the chance to fight her and the others.
Imagine an addition to Godhome where you can fight the five knights as a sort of separate pantheon

Started exploring the queens garden last night. Just showed me how NOT prepared I am for the path of pain. 😅
so there's a new mod that came out which stylizes itself as a fan-made DLC, called The Pale Court, which can be installed via the normal means (that mod loader I don't remember what it's called, i think scarab?), and in that mod you can fight dreya, as well as zemir (the grey mourner / delicate flower lady), isma (tree lady), and hegemol (the false knight stole his armor, so it's the same character design as false knight, but a very different fight)

ahem. good news. the new pale court DLC (mod) has been released. you can now fight all of the five great knights. even some new charms. best mod ever.
im convinced the pale court mod only exists to give dryya a fight, and it eventually became what it is now.
The origin is: one of the creators made a young Ze'mer sprite, and they just kept going. But that would have been funny.

i think it makes sense because it'd be hard to make a "nail against nail" fight that teaches you the mechanics of the shade cloak as well as traitor lord

saying "maybe we'll get (something like her in) silksong" was your mistake
Another missed boss opportunity is in the spirits glade where I think it would have been cool if dream nailing a spirit would start a boss fight instead of just killing you.

Yeah, every time I hear stuff like this I always go “Damn, I wish Team Cherry just kept throwing whatever ideas they wanted into this shit and never stopped” - like…..the game could update and this just get randomly added and some dialogue reworded or whatever and keep this thing going. It’s a game I could potentially play forever lol
I also love how tc said they might return to HK add ons and more dlcs after time off to do silksong and (1 or more) other games. So Def not a while but could come
Bro this is such a missed oppurtunity, she could've still been alive and try to protect the White Lady from us, not knowing we are related to her. (We're not sure if the five knights knew about the Vessels, or if they only knew about the Hollow Knight, so it could still work)
In the main game, they should have kept her as the boss instead of the traitor lord, They should have put the traitor lords somewhere in the fungal wastes, and after beating the mantis lords, they give you a quest to go and kill the traitor lord, and maybe give a mask shard or vessel fragment or pale ore as reward
Its still funny that the 5 Great Knights end up the way they do. One lives in dung, the other living one is depressed, one got killed by a magot, one died and the person they were protecting never found out, and the last one turned into a tree with unresolved feelings.
If only there was a mod being worked on that added all the great knight fights, and a ton of other stuff.

They have absolutely no reason to fight, maybe she would tested his skills like Hornet, but I dont thinks so because you just killed Her enemy and besides she would reconize one of the Vessels bearing the mark of the King.
