I havent watched the whole series yet but if you havent already, I would love a video about how to memorize the different types of wraps and count your outs quickly! For instance one hand im always looking out for pre-flop is a rundown with 2 gaps on the bottom end (ex. 68TJ). When you flop your key cards (in this case 79) with a hand like this it is the absolute mther of all wraps and you have ~80% TO THE NUTS on an unpaired rainbow board
I do cover pot odds and calculating equity quite a few times throughout the series…. Generally speaking unless your on the button, straddle, or get a bunch of callers 68TJ is not a good hand pre…… sometimes any 4 will do! Ty for watching and Ty for the comment!
@@ploprofessor Im not saying i want to get it all in with that hand pre but its one to keep an eye out for that either hits the flop hard exteremely hard or doesnt at all
TY good sir! LMK also if there are any specific topics on PLO you want me to cover - the first 10 episodes are going to focus on Live cash play, the next ten will focus on Tournament PLO play and hi/lo and big O.
not trying to nitpick but by definition it is more variance. Common misconception is that variance means size of wins vs losses. It just means frequency. In omaha you are guaranteed to see more variance because the increased optionality brings equities closer together so its harder to dominate other hands. In holdem AA dominates KK and AK but in omaha a hand like KKXX usually has at least 30% equity against AAXX. so given that the max bet is Pot size, the pot odds are close enough that a call is not a huge mistake. that means hands can realize their equity more often which just leads to variance in the sense of frequency of wins and losses. If you play super tight you can reduce losses but you also reduce win streaks. you can reduce the effect of variance by decisions but you just cap your win rate along with reducing losses
Equity is what I discuss in Episode 2 and 3! Good points! The key to Omaha is understanding Equity and being ok with losing a hand even though you've played it correctly! I hope you tune in for the rest of the series of videos! Ty for you comment
Just played a big O hand yesterday where a cautious player who limped Preflop started blasting on AK9 rainbow board and potted again on 7 turn… I had a set of kings KK1010x suited and overplayed it ran into Aces… need to learn to fold middle sets like you say in the video… painful $1200 lesson

Hey! Sorry for a potentially dumb question. How valuable are good wraps with or without a backdoor or frontdoor flush draw on a flush draw flop? If you see a pot bet and call in front of you or a pot bet raise in front of you, when if ever are you folding? Great content!
I love all questions I do think this is one I answer in episode 15? Or somewhere around there! But SPRs do matter, so does position and table dynamics - but it’s pretty rare for me not to see at least a turn with any kind of wrap - player depending I can do that with 679 on a 8TA board - but very player specific…. Good question though! Ty for watching and Ty for the comment

Loved this first video ... I want to start working on my PLO game, but even a 1/2 table is a little too rich for my blood with the variance. Are there any online sites in the US that you would recommend to get experience at low stakes PLO?
Not any specific sites in particular…. If your in a state where online is legal I really like WSOP. Otherwise there are club software (like gg poker, pppoker, or pokerbros). I’d recommend low stakes on any of those - don’t get tempted into the 5 card PLO.
I get how to play these hands when you hit what is intended, or if you miss.... But I would like to know your thoughts on this situation, which I find all too often. If you are playing a rundown like 9876 and you flop two or three pairs, how much equity does that have? Let's say an average table, medium stack, in or out of position, disregard flushes for this conversation, and let's say I did raise pre-flop (like you suggest) and I got 3-4 callers. If I hit my straight, I am not holding the nuts at that point. On the flop... Do I bet or check? Do I call a bet, fold or raise? I could hold out for the boat, but should I?
Great quetsion; when in doubt bet it out. So if you have 9876 and you flop top two pair like 87 (on an 873 board), super strong hand...top two and open ended. On the other end, if you flop mid straight, like flop comes 786 - you only lose to one hand at that moment, and you still have top two pair as a back up. In general if you hit this type of a hand even if you are out of position its good to bet it out, if you have no one raising, just realize that they should be drawing to something!
i like to check raise in this spot. A lot of times you will get folds, and if anyone calls there you know they have a set 90% of the time, so you can either catch up or give up at that point. (Im talking about top 2 pair here)
I play a local game where there is just a $5-$15 button straddle. It's a pretty crazy game and one situation I find myself constantly in is facing a $15 straddle. Question: if you have say just a suited Ace or a pair of Tens do you raise the $15 straddle or just call?
Excellent question! It is dependent upon the table, players, and position. I’m not folding…. If the table is passive I’ll bring in a raise (in position). If I’m early position I’ll flat. If the table is super nuts - I do tend to do a blocker raise preflop. I know that sounds strange but there are a lot of PLO players who like to raise pot pre but they don’t want to 3 bet pre. So…. In a situation like that I may do a small raise so I don’t have to call a pot size (100 bet) pre. I hope that helps. If you haven’t yet watch the episode regarding crazy tables and how to handle them. Ty for watching and Ty for the question!
Any chance covering 5-6 card Omaha? From playing them I have noticed they play quite a bit different from 4 card. In 6 card, because you have 15 hand combinations. You'll most likely have a VPIP of 80+%, because you simply do not know the value of your hand until you see the flop.
I do cover 5 card - primarily online - I don’t cover 6 card Omaha - I have played both. And I agree with 6 card you really don’t know the value of you hand till the flop but as a general rule in 6 card you always want at least 4 of you cards to be above 8…. Biggest leaks for most players in 6 card is not being able to fold full houses that aren’t the nut full houses.
@@ploprofessor 6 card also has a lot more bluffing opportunities, with 55/TT and even AA being excellent blockers to straights, as disciplined players will be more inclined to fold 2nd nut hands. Also, even the best starting hands are only 52-53% favourite against most random hands pre.
@@ploprofessor thank you, played my 1st live session of $2-2 PLO at Hard Rock Hollywood. felt a little uneasy bc the pots are so much bigger than NLH $1-3 but I felt pretty good playing a tight range per your suggestions on opening hands when you are beginning PLO... Generally speaking 99xx should still apply. That doesn’t mean you can play hands like 5566ds - but I would only play these hands in position, or against very specific opponents (some opponents once you play with them a lot you’ll know their tendencies - and try to exploit them when possible). Ty for the comment and ty for watching!
I just remembered there was a hand I got it all in pre for 1k (in a 5-5 game) with 5577 suited and got so much flack from it. All in pre 3 ways - thought I was up against AAxx and Axxx - neither opponent had AA - and I was still a 37% favorite 3 ways…. Again, it’s situational. Ty again for the comment and ty for watching!
I'm currently working on uploading video number 2 - I expect to have 1-2 video's per week (Please note I've already recorded Episode 3, but still need to edit it). Once Episode 2 comes up, if you are subscribed you will get a notification!
I think my next chalkboard video may be on plo6. I’ve been playing it a lot more - so I didn’t put out a video yet until I figured out the best strategies (which I’ve been working on for quite some time).
In a 9 handed game, the following is true (give or take 4%) If you have Kx suited and the board has three of your suit, no Ace, someone else was DEALT the nut flush draw in that suit about 27% of the time. So.... when you decide to draw to the 2nd nut flush, you are drawing dead (at least for the flush) a third of the time. I don't quite know how to adjust your EV calculation, but you implied odds are bad. This is even more so if players in your game will make large bets with the bare ace as a bluff. In limit Omaha, you can have sufficient pot odds to call, but in PLO, it is probably not so good. Even in limit O8, the presence of a low or low draw is a disaster for your second nut flush draw. About the only time you can play that draw aggressively is when you have other value, such as nut low, 2 pair, a wrap, etc. But frankly, even then the best part of this holding can simply be the fact that you hold some of your opponents outs. My best guess about your EV calculation is to simply assume you will only make the best hand 70% of the times where you make a flush and don't pair the board. So your equity for the flush alone is roughly 20%, with the second nut flush draw But with the nut flush draw, it is probably 30-35%, depending on the presence of sets and 2 pair hands. But as I said before the 2nd nut flush draw also has awful implied odds. You struggle to get paid and avoid paying off better hands, but with the nut flush draw (or even the dry A) it is YOU who will big difference between these 2 hands. In other words, second nut flushes should really only be a backup part of a hand that has fairly decent equity already.
Getting it all in pre? Yeah - kind of like JJ…. Nice thing in PlO is when you 3 bet and the. Get 4 bet…. You can call because your equity is still high!
@@ploprofessor understood and thank you sir for reply and your content. How about rundown? Is it a fold or play if the starting hand is 2,3,4,5,X? For PLO 5 cards
Any suited ace ? You cant be serious. Calling raises preflop with suited ace and 2 rags all night will eat your stack away. Really need to be more clear here
Ty for watching and the question. Keep in mind every table is situational…. And yes, even on a tight table I’m calling any raise preflop with any suited ace (if there is a 3 bet or 4 bet I may fold but for a standard open where the most your opponents can make it is pot…. Assuming we are 500-1000 deep I’m calling with any suited ace.)
Great question - sorry it took me a while to answer - Sort of? I'm going to cover tournaments soon! Tournaments will be broken up into 2-4 Episodes... So I think my map has tournaments starting in Episode 16! Good question and Ty for watching...stay tuned!
I’m not sure that’s the best decision. Poker isn’t for everyone….. it’s definitely a grind! If you are properly bankrolled with experience and dedication to do it it can be worth it! Most people start off playing recreationally at first! Ty for the comment and Ty for watching!
Don't play a hand with four spades. Don't play 2345. The way you broke down pre-flop starting hand selection was good, dividing hands into three categories: big pairs, suited aces, and rundowns. But there absolutely are exceptions. 99xx is generally garbage unless your side cards connect somehow. Suited aces with more than two of the same suit are also not hands you should be looking to VPIP. And finally, low rundowns are often not drawing to the nuts, so you should be cautious VPIPing those hands.
I agree with most of what you say, keep in mind this is a good stepping stone for people who are making the transition from NLHE to PLO! When a newer player who is transitioning watches all my videos they should have a much greater understanding of PLO... and they should be profitable.
@@ploprofessor why do you say they should be profitable? The vast majority of poker players are not profitable, especially in raked games. My advice for new players would be to be as tight as possible preflop.
@@grossing89 that’s not bad advice to start…. But average plo players will pick up on how tight players are and push them out of pots or bluff them too often. And the statement about most poker players aren’t profitable is very true… 19 out of 20 players are not profitable.. it’s something that I honestly wish more of the poker community would talk about but we like to keep quiet about that!
Yes. I sometimes prefer the old school dry erase board! Some other videos' do have powerpoints; they tend to be a little more dry - less personality (just personal preference really). TY for watching though! Episode 6 should be out soon!
Man it s dificult to have worst strategic conceptions on rundowns as you have! 2345 is one of the trashiest hands you can have... and J986ds is a mandatory 3-bet in any average player with a decent strategy
I appreciate the feedback! I always tell my students everything is situational! Keep in mind these first couple of videos are designed for people who are first learning to transition from NLHE to PLO! I had a bunch of people complain to me about telling players to play 99xx (keep in mind for Pocket Pairs that's the min. NLHE should play while transitioning).
I usually tell new players it’ll cost ya about 30k to properly learn plo - or watch my videos and spend 500-1k hiring me as a coach - I think I could still use any of my students as references! It did cost me a lot of buy ins when I first learned plo! Ty for watching and Ty for the comment!
It does. 99xx is the MIN. I would start calling with pre. The point I want to make to most players transitioning in is to stop playing 44xx and flopping bottom set of 4's and wondering why you keep losing money! At least with 99xx and above (for pocket pairs) - you are flopping middle set or top set enough that it pays off for you! Always proceed with caution with middle set!
How can you honestly tell people with a straight face that playing 99xx because you can flop a set is a good strategy. If you plug in 99xx in a range explorer the average rank in a full ring game is 39% while KsJs7c7d is 36%. Both hands play poorly and the pair of nines doesn't really add any value. Playing this hoping to hit top set is a losing propistion. When you flop a set with 99 it only flops top set a third of the time. Your vlog was proof of this as you lost 400bb playing TT73 just hoping to flop a set and getting piles in with middle set and no redraw only to run in to top set and nut flush draw PLO is a 4 card game and your teaching people to essentially disregard side cards and play any 99 + hand. Giving out poor advice to new players who will implement these poor strategies is quite offensive. You are costing people thousands of dollars.
I always appreciate the feedback! On the contrary if you listen to what I’m teaching players (particularly in episode 1)- is how to transition to play PLO from NLHE. The purpose of 99xx was so they get in the mindset that flopping bottom set with 66xx usually puts you in a position where you have no clue if you’re ahead! Keep in mind 99xx, suited ace, and rundown are all the bare min hands you want to play. As you continue to watch the episodes on PLO strategy you’ll see where I go more in depth on hands (and I tell my students always proceed with caution on middle set or even middle or bottom wrap draw). I appreciate your feedback! As to the TTxx hand I honestly didn’t think I was behind - just called a simple bad read - it happens! Ty for watching
I stumbled upon your video randomly but I thought after watching it that it was satire or something. I dug deeper and found this video.. Dude you're going against your principals.. Now you're just gambling... 9327R? idiot end of straight draw? I don't mean to be rude but you're just gambling at this point. Most of the sessions I see you winning are coming from sucking out while putting in at least $500 of your stack. Also, double barreling against 3 players.....
I always appreciate the comments both positive and negative. There are spots where I certainly do gamble on - not sure which of my live vlogs you were referring to but I’m sure you’re not wrong about what I was calling with or raising / betting with! One of the biggest things I try to stress to my students and viewers is that plo is a great game because the dynamics of the game or the dynamics of the players can so easily change! Not sure that you’ve observed most of winning sessions either (there happens to be a game im no longer allow to record / comment on that is highly +EV this past year)…. That and I don’t do too many live vlogs on Limit - which as any grinder knows - is a bankroll builder! I appreciate that you stumbled upon my videos and watched several of them! Tyvm for watching and Ty for the comment - I appreciate all feedback!
Well, folding a set, specially middle set, i wouldnt be so sure of it at low stakes or micro stakes online. Assuming that low stakes live and micro stakes online is pretty much at the same difficulty, people there are betting and pushing action with way worse hands than your middle set, for ex: top 2 pair or even better - bottom set. Yes, you will get some setups while you run into the top set, but overall, i am making money from going with my mid set all the way, ocasionaly folding, depending on a player I play against.

What is your minimum for double pocket pair hands? Still need 99+ for one of them or do you lower that?
Is A234 considered a rundown ? or JQKA... The later you can get nuts but the 1st seems pretty sketchy
both are considered rundowns; obviously the higher rundown you have the stronger your hand is.
Is double suited double pair good? Like should I play 2255hs or does the 99xx+ rule still apply?

@@ploprofessor that would be good mate got bluffed out of 1k pot not too long ago it still hurts.. all he had was blockers :(
In a 9 handed game, the following is true (give or take 4%)
If you have Kx suited and the board has three of your suit, no Ace, someone else was DEALT the nut flush draw in that suit about 27% of the time. So.... when you decide to draw to the 2nd nut flush, you are drawing dead (at least for the flush) a third of the time.
I agree! Its why one of our principles is playing only suited Aces. If you have a suited King, i'd keep that as a back up plan.
i hope i never see you at my table in a plo game. Thanks for the content!

Nice thing in PlO is when you 3 bet and the. Get 4 bet…. You can call because your equity is still high!

A decent amount. The highest I’ve played was 10/25/50 plo. I’ve never played nosebleed (25/50/100 or 100/200/400).
VPIPing LOL
VPIPing LOL
I agree with most of what you say, keep in mind this is a good stepping stone for people who are making the transition from NLHE to PLO! When a newer player who is transitioning watches all my videos they should have a much greater understanding of PLO... and they should be profitable.
@@ploprofessor why do you say they should be profitable? The vast majority of poker players are not profitable, especially in raked games.
My advice for new players would be to be as tight as possible preflop.
@@grossing89 that’s not bad advice to start…. But average plo players will pick up on how tight players are and push them out of pots or bluff them too often.
And the statement about most poker players aren’t profitable is very true…

99xx ain’t it. Correct theory, wrong range. 99 flops middle and bottom set real often too. Jjxx+
The PLO Professor pronouncing “et cetera” as “ek-cetera” is kinda tilting.
😉
I will try to pronounce it appropriately!
@@ploprofessor 🤗

Now you're just gambling... 9327R? idiot end of straight draw? I don't mean to be rude but you're just gambling at this point. I always appreciate the comments both positive and negative. There are spots where I certainly do gamble on - not sure which of my live vlogs you were referring to but I’m sure you’re not wrong about what I was calling with or raising / betting with! Not sure that you’ve observed most of winning sessions either (there happens to be a game im no longer allow to record / comment on that is highly +EV this past year)….
It’s always player dependent! Ty for the comment and Ty for watching!
