Not judging, just want to give a suggestion. I’m working on a video on chimney flashing as well. Just wanted to say- when you cut your shingles that butt your step flashing, you wanna cut them around a light quarter inch from the chimney. This leaves room for water to flow which basically makes it a self cleaning system. If there’s any debris there the water can wash it out. Also the shingles can buckle just a little bit if they’re cut to tight with the temp change. When they are cut tight, the snow can work it’s way up under them and spread out past the flashing over time. Also debris will soak up water and it can kind of cause a catch and it will spread. I’m not saying it will leak, but I have seen it happen. And it is recommended by manufacturers to leave a little room for the water to flow. When you leave a little gap the water doesn’t hang around, it flows down fast stays on top of the flashing. Washes out any shingle grit etc. just a tip! As you know, always watching and glad to see someone doing good work. Also, this is the same around any obstructions - boots vents etc. just leave a small gap for the water to flow easily.
Also also, you have my number, hit me up if you need a couple good roofers to bust out some bigger jobs. You know our quality is there. We’re super busy but would love to break away for a day and bust out something nasty. 🤘

I have seen some shabby work done over the years from roofers and siding and have even worked for a few of them that will take all sorts of short cuts just to get paid and get out. But those same people I worked for ended up shafting me end the end too. You can always judge a good man to work for by his work ethic and you have a good one...
I step flash up the roof along the chimney and then grind or cut a new kerf parallel to the roof about an inch above top of step flashing. Make a L shaped counter flashing the will slide in the new kerf and over the top of step flashing. It’s a very clean look.

here in the UK we use lead, much quicker and easier to use. You should watch a video and see for yourself.some thing like what you did would probably only take 20minutes or less to do in lead. I enjoy your vids keep up the good work 🇬🇧🇬🇧
We personally step flash up the chimney as normal and cut down the length of the chimney with a grinder so you just put a bend on a piece and silicone and masonry nail it in
No but I sliced my knee if you look closely! Went to the hospital 2 days later lol hooked something I wasn't supposed to with a dull hook blade and my leg swelled stiff by the end of the day

@@maximilianoramos9268 Step flashing doesn't rely on sealants that inevitably fail in a few years.. a good step flashing, mortared in, as was traditionally done, will last as long as a shingle roof.
No need for a tape measure, pencil marks, mistakes, etc... bring up a roll tuck it in mortar, roll it down and slice it. You can also weave the lead under the shingle.
I also cut 1/8 strips of lead and fold it until slightly larger than mortar joint, then tap in lead with punch. Friction fit with a little lexall on top!
I think it would look better leaving the metal all one height, set against the chimney and mark it, then cut a grove in the chimney. I t would be easier and look better, at least I think so..
If I ever redo mine, it will be a straight one like that. My current flashing that the original builders did is just resting flat on the brick and the gap painted with blackjack tar. I have no idea how it hasn’t leaked yet.
The bend you put on is making it harder for you , you only need to follow your mortar line with a straight edge , then add 20 mill for a fold into you brick work
Our gutter guy does free delivery if you buy 100' or more of gutter, seems like we only ever need 90' though lol cue 10' of gutter for $ -50 lol long story short we make the ground guy cut them up into flashing
Funny how you guys use imperial but come up with sums like 7.06, you are working it out in inches, giving the answer in metric and then using inches to lay out the flashing 🤔
Do not flash your chimney this way lol. This is called sharks tooth which is great but the side piece of metal should have com around 4” down to where the bottom of the front flashing is as a kick off for water. Also your back pan (back piece of metal) should also have a 4” kick out ensuring you are keeping water away from your chimney. Also if you choose to do sharks tooth it can all be done with a flat bar (a 12” or 18” flat piece of steel) and it is not as difficult as what this man is trying to explain.

yea I have a good chimney wrap video but i was too slow in it to make it worth a watch. I will be more efficient next time and have enough time to show it to you guys. if you look closely at the thumbnail you can see what it looks like. also at the end of the video I believe.
That new break is sweet like butter kid👍🏻chimney flashing looked good. What’s up with the knee bro? Cartilage problem? I had both knees done. I know that pain. Take care bro
nah lol dumb story really. I was using my hook blade to pull the caulk off that chimney and a big ass fat butt spider crawled on my leg...I tried to cut his ass in half but hooked my knee with the blade lmao swelled up bad by the end of this video and I couldn't bend it at all by the end of the night. took an ice bath though and elevated it, took ibuprofen and I was good to go in the morning. still can't bend it all the way though. pretty swollen at the moment.
Lots of math there boss! Prob. All day to make that piece, schhhaaaazzzzamm! Nice new toy and where’s your glasses boss?
Safety squints lol and nah piece only took a little bit. Getting the film right took a few tries
Just a question how come your short angle cuts are not straight up and down to match the mortar joints I think it would look more uniform
honestly not sure, i've always seen them work backwards, probably has to do with water shedding
i would have liked to see how you did your step flashing corners
here in the UK we use lead, much quicker and easier to use. You should watch a video and see for yourself.some thing like what you did would probably only take 20minutes or less to do in lead. I enjoy your vids keep up the good work 🇬🇧🇬🇧
You should have bent the top stiffened bend the opposite way. Then you would would be flush with the brick. Much easier to lay the level.
We personally step flash up the chimney as normal and cut down the length of the chimney with a grinder so you just put a bend on a piece and silicone and masonry nail it in
No sliced fingers! Well done
No but I sliced my knee if you look closely! Went to the hospital 2 days later lol hooked something I wasn't supposed to with a dull hook blade and my leg swelled stiff by the end of the day
@@NWIVeteranConstruction Ouch Get well soon.
Awesome
Did you seal the step flashing to the chimney before you installed the counter flashing?
No I did not, and I usually do
@@NWIVeteranConstruction 🍻 my dad's been roofing 45+ years and I've been showing him your videos. He likes your spirit but he's coming for your record! 🍻🍻🇺🇸
Looks sharp man 👍
I appreciate that thanks
@@NWIVeteranConstruction thank you for the video I learned a thing or two might step up to the plate next time we need to do this 😎
There you go! Glad I can help
Not the first time man seriously ur videos have helped me in the past I appreciate them and also thank u for ur service and starting ur company
Good job on the video!
I tried to edit out a touch more nonsense than usual. Thanks
@@NWIVeteranConstruction here's that video you requested of my boss. Just a heads up on the little joke at the beginning. 😉 ruclips.net/video/Ovr4FXJ5138/видео.html
Ive always ran the "baby flashings" in the top groove as a counter flashing.
Yours does look real clean though. Liked the rivits to hold the metals. together.
Thanks! Definitely lots of good ways to get it done
Definitely can tell that Zach does not wear the pants!! Big boys would tell her NEVER will you call me while I'm working.....PERIOD!!! BTW...., Those words are said to her ONCE!!! Words of wisdom for young men(zach).....A man's work is THE most important thing!! Stay focused Zach, you will be much better off for it!! Still waiting for a video where we all can hear you speak those words to her!! Now THAT'S a challenge boys!!
You should keep a hand seamer/brake in the truck for those 7"bends
Use lead it may be expensive but it sure looks alot better and lasts years
For your marks on flashing why not put layer painter tape over tin to draw on then just peel off when done
Quick question, is that way more cheap than buying the pieces already made?
I would assume so. Its also custom so it will look nicer
English roofer here we use lead but same principal on step all you need to do is cut width an length draw line like inch higher then centre all way through then take your level or small timbre run it long the top of brick mark it cut perfect would save u half the time
Sorry obviously then add an inch for tabs on the brick line u drew
Also if you mark a line on chimney to match the line an inch higher than centre makes chasing out motor a lot easier
Sorry for poor explanation really high and just got of the roof but seriously man would take me 20 30 mins todo that
lmfao yea same here if I did it again tomorrow. but filming takes a bit.
Wasn't saying you couldn't just saying there's a easier technic to it every roofer does it there way I watch all your videos as maybe one day I'll move out there and have a crack
How come you didn’t just copy their metal and go back into the same grooves on the brick
I would have done a few thing differently
You're doing something that's called having common sense!
Hey zack how do you secure it to the Chimney?
Color match rivets.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction oh okay I was kinda wondering I seen you putting rivets in it but I didnt know if they was holding it in place or what. I need to tell my boss man that's what we need to do cause we use dry pins and it dont ever look very good
Please post this on BitChute which has no ads. RUclips ads are popping up every few minutes. Plus YT bans people for no reason.
Are there 3 holes in the top chimney flashing?23;35 You can train men to also wear safety goggles when using power tools
Nicest flash job I've ever seen..But could you jus lock your tape out when your making multiple measurements.
Thanks man I appreciate that. And yes I could but it always depends
Id be a material handler for you for a day just to observe your knowledge of roofs, ha.
That chimney flashing on the high and low side of the chimney is rough. Looks like you buried the bottom corner flashing?
Why wouldn’t you trace the existing piece of counter flashing?
Great work nonetheless! Love the videos.
To show you guys how to do it from scratch! Plus the other one was 2 pieces. Thanks for comment
Nice job the stair step flashing always look sweet but guy rarely take the extra time to do it...
Yea it scares a lot of people including me! I was very happy I attacked it though and got it right. Feels good
@@NWIVeteranConstruction definitely a challenge much easier to saw cut a straight line and bend it up haha
Fuck that good job making it right for the customer. We would have put the L flashing in and counter flashed it down here in Florida. Would’ve been I’m and out 20 min lol but good job.
After u mark the metal with ur square lightly scar with ur knife then bend it. Then the flashing jus break off.
I can’t believe I watched that whole video and you cut it off before i could even see you put your caulk in it. Smdh. Sweet looking flashing tho!
I trace the old piece or snap a line 12" up and run a straight piece
Yea I do the straight one often as well. The old one was 2 pieces and I wanted to show how to do it from scratch for the viewers
Good work
Now we got a guy for around $200 he comes in and does all our metal work
@@roofking2314 that's awesome
I think straight its look much better then step flashing
@@maximilianoramos9268 Step flashing doesn't rely on sealants that inevitably fail in a few years.. a good step flashing, mortared in, as was traditionally done, will last as long as a shingle roof.
I grind in and add lead. Much easier. I also use a drop cloth for dust.
I watched a guy on RUclips use lead. Rarely see that anymore these days by me. Is the preference just because it's easier?
@@NWIVeteranConstruction I was taught that mortar has chemicals that can corrode aluminum. Lead does not.
@@chrisclark2017 that's what that guy did too
I think it would look better leaving the metal all one height, set against the chimney and mark it, then cut a grove in the chimney. I t would be easier and look better, at least I think so..
Yea I do that one very often too. But i do think the stair step looks fancier and this is a nice house. Replaced what was there you know?
@@NWIVeteranConstruction I hear that brother, you did do a nice clean job, it shows..
If I ever redo mine, it will be a straight one like that. My current flashing that the original builders did is just resting flat on the brick and the gap painted with blackjack tar. I have no idea how it hasn’t leaked yet.
Yeah I think so too.
What brake is that?
Tapco 10 ft 6. The Deep one
Just cut into the brick with a mason blade and install a 1/2 x 5 counter-flashing.
The bend you put on is making it harder for you , you only need to follow your mortar line with a straight edge , then add 20 mill for a fold into you brick work
could you not use a t or drywall t sq
That would work too
Our gutter guy does free delivery if you buy 100' or more of gutter, seems like we only ever need 90' though lol cue 10' of gutter for $ -50 lol long story short we make the ground guy cut them up into flashing
I am surprised you sliced into brick to install the flashing. I would just lay a huge thick bead of geocell versus weakening that brick
Have the same tapco but mines 20 yrs old I've rebuilt it 3 times mine came with a vhs tutorial lmao it shows the same as those stickers
Fucker!! He beat me lol glad to see ya moving brother
lol moving pretty slow with that damaged knee
First Buddy!
Nicely done
I think I have the exact brake but like 20 years old
I just run a 1/2x5 counter flashing straight and save WAY more time
Yes sir I do them that way too.
Nice
Funny how you guys use imperial but come up with sums like 7.06, you are working it out in inches, giving the answer in metric and then using inches to lay out the flashing 🤔
You gotta watch your help sometimes they get to rollin and they don't wanna rip the shingle up so they try to cheat it or they don't care
Are you DHBC certified
Lmao dude I didn't see it was you at first and was gonna screen shot and send to you. I am not though
