He may be forgotten amongst the casuals but true fans know that he was Mr. IPL during the early IPL seasons.

Now whenever I see CSK struggling with top order, I remember how Mr. IPL used to save us from collapses! The Backbone of CSK batting lineup!!💛

If he would have played for himself, he could have easily scored 600+ runs in 5-6 seasons like others but he always tried maximising the damage in the middle overs. He provided base to other batsmen, I have personally seen that over the years and I have always idolised him as a true team-man who plays for wins not for records!❤️❤️

The problem with every match is people only remember the people who completed the game , but not who made the hard yards through the middle, same like how people only remember Dhoni 97 but not Gambhir in the World Cup final which according to me was same if not more important than Dhoni , even in t20 World Cup when irfan got player of the match in knockout he said Gambhir should get it because he made runs on a tough pitch , people tend to forget that and also the fact that each player has a role in the team and he needs to play that instead of serving their own agenda, probably one the reasons why India never won a tournament after 2011

Raina is truly a special player
    * Can bat anywhere from 3-7
    * Can be explosive when needed
    * Can play slow if there is an early collapse
    * Handy spin bowler who can chip in a few overs when necessary
India is definitely missing this kind of player now, the closest we've got to this profile is Tilak Varma but nowadays India rarely give the ball to part-timers anyway

Probably the most underrated batsmen ever. I'm glad someone took notice besides me. Thanks for the video Jarrod 👍
He was extremely good at no.3 when his career began but was brought down to 6 to promote Kohli to no.3 because he was struggling at no.6. His batting average took a hit due to that but he'd always ensured played the role Dhoni had for him and that selflessness had rather become a curse for him 😕

I would argue he is one of the greats for indian team as well, whenever i used to watch an odi match where india was in a tough situation batting wise he always played the supporting role to other batsmen, always getting those crucial 30-40 runs quickly that takes off the pressure, was a lighthearted team player that also contributed to the environment in the dressing room, he is someone india is missing right now a batsman that doesn’t take pressure no matter what the stage of the competition is playing the same in groups as well as knockouts, Rinku is a little bit reminiscent of that in him, he would have thrived more if he was used up the order. A lot of people forget he was yet to bat after yuvraj singh and dhoni in that 2011 WC final he used to bat that low.

    • @dashmeetsingh9679
      @dashmeetsingh9679 2 месяца назад +4

He Saved Ind in Semi-Final of same WC. Where both Yuvi and Dhoni struggled, Ind would have bowled out under 200, he was the reason, Ind ended with 260.

Bro people talk about Void Yuvi left but As an Indian I know Raina is also one who always used to take pressure of MSD in both India and CSK.
MSD wouldn't have been so much bigger finisher if Raina and kohli don't do all the hardwork upfront and in middle overs.
Tilak Verma idolizes Raina and plays like him with part time bowling and gun fileding, I hope both MI and India sees the vakue Tilak Verma brings who puts team requirement above anything and give him long rope.
India really in serach of a player like Raina who can bat anywhere from 3 to 7, can roll the arm if need and absolutely gun fielder in any part of the field.

that innings of 87 of 25 balls against Punjab kings by Raina was unbelievable. .... he batted like a man possessed ....even csk fans were like wtf just happened here, 100 up in just 6 overs !!! Ironic we lost that match.
today in 2024 everyone is going mad that teams are scoring almost 100 runs in 6 or 7 overs (with impact player rule).... that Raina innings happened 10 years back when 180 used to be a match winning total most of the times

Even though I am a bowler I always liked him. People don't appreciate the fact that he's played an equally important role in the csk franchise along with Dhoni. This man showed what 'intent' meant way before everyone. BTW loved this video man!! Ur channel is as underrated as Suresh ig 😂😂😂 Keep up the good work hope to see you at greater heights 👏🎉😅

I don't think he was as underrated as you think Jarrod. He was nicknamed Mr. IPL. The crossing 400 mark was always in the conversation. Fans knew that he was the backbone of CSK batting, and he was often hailed as the best IPL batter. It was also well known that he is very good at batting for long time while striking at a good rate. The only thing that was lesser discussed was how good he was against spin in comparison to everyone else, and how little he was paid. But that is probably because he never went to auctions after season one, right? He got drafted at Gujarat Lions when CSK was banned so there was a fixed price.

Never realised what a crucial mistake India made trying to have Dhawan and Rahane work in top order in t20is.
Just imagine Rohit and Kohli opening with Raina coming in at 3.
Vk would have had 5 t20i centuries by now and India might have had the t20wc for the 2nd time.

I would say he's one of the best cricketer india produced in 21st century. He was a reliable batter, had bailed us out many times along with MS, good part timer you can count on and above all a top class fielder. You don't see many guys like him nowadays, or as consistent like him. If Kohli wouldn't have started opening for RCB and played at No. 3, I would pick Raina over him because he knows a thing or two about winning trophies in critical situation, casuals haven't seen him play so they can't understand why I'm saying this. There have been players who made tons of runs for their franchise and others who saved their teams in crunch situation and won them trophies, Raina was a mixture of both.
