Hey Matt ! Loving your talking the trades show !!! I am a retired commercial HVAC-R tech and hope you talk this trade also someday !! Thanks for your wonderful trades and building show !! I used your teachings to build myself a new 2300 sq ‘ house and my oldest daughter a smaller 1300 sq’ Your teachings allowed me to choose and monitor my sub’s building practices while I took care of all mechanicals.

27:15 My step-father was once called "just a plumber" by a woman whose house he was working on. He quickly reminded her that she had to call this "just a plumber" to have a working toilet in her house.

Regarding blue collar vs. white collar jobs, there's definitely a history of white collars looking down on blue collars, but I think it's important to recognize that these days it's a two-way street, and there are plenty of blue collars that look down on white collars, asserting that it's not "real" work. Why can't people understand that you both are necessary in today's society? I've got a white collar job myself, but I am super thankful for all those who choose to go the other route, and do the stuff I can't/won't. I'd be miserable in that kind of job, and I'm sure they'd be miserable in mine, so it works out that we can each do our own thing.

In 2013, we did a home renovation. New heating system. Our plumbing contractor was an instructor at a local trade school. He had his 18 year old apprentice design, fabricate and install our radiant heating system with new high efficiency gas boiler. Had to have the boiler replaced 10 years in. That apprentice took over the business and installed our new boiler last year. Was so great to see this kid come from a high school trade program and become the entrepreneur he’s is today. At 28, he owns his home outright and enjoys high ratings from his customers in the region.

All businesses should make an effort to hire students during the summer break to give them some work experience and help them to consider the trades as an employment option. There once was a time when trades people had a helper or assistant. Now everything is a one man job. Young people need to be exposed to work and the trades while in high school or during summer breaks while in college. Having a mentor even for 3 months teaching good work habits and skills can change a persons life for the better.

American Home Shield makes me think less of you... my suggestion is to not take them as a sponsor.
