    I am a 70 yr old widow, one person household who has begun to explore countertop hydroponics and very limited patio hydroponic gardening. Can I reduce the amount of solution preparation to a single gallon or even 2.5 gallons, pour it into ice cube trays, and freeze. Does freezing destroy its value

    • @healinghobbies
      @healinghobbies  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching! Yes , this solution can be reduced to a gallon ratio of 2g NPK, 2g CN & 1g ES. I am not sure about the freezing method however the solution can be kept in a dark cool place until the next use or refill. Other alternative, is to make a liquid concentrate solution. The solution can make a smaller amount by liter. Here is the link for the liquid concentrate ruclips.net/video/SJr1vRVJzvI/видео.html. I hope it helps. All the best! Keep going and Keep growing!🌱🙂

    How often should the liquid solution be replaced?

    • @johny9101
      @johny9101 3 месяца назад

      When the plants start showing signs of distress or a bad smell in the solution. It really does depend. I usually refill my reservoir and rarely change out the water. I change out the water twice a month but that's only because I like giving them a fresh batch of water and nutrients, the water never smells funky or looks odd. I could probably get away with once a month since I grow indoors.
      Edit: Another factor to consider, if your reservoir has no water pump, nutrients will build up faster at the bottom.

    Is it ok to just plant lettuce and pechay bokchoy. Without changing it's ppm and ph level meaning i will use it as is. I dont have any tools to measure ppm and ph. Just a backyard raiser for home use.

    • @healinghobbies
      @healinghobbies  Год назад

      I do not recommend it but if you do not have access to the tools/devices. Don't let it stop you from experimenting and understanding the growing process of hydroponics. It's fun to learn and experiment and yes you can! I'd like to keep it simple too. I've grown most of my veggies without checking ppm and ph level. One thing I would suggest though is use rain/tap water. Using hard water would be critical it has a high mineral content that would affect your nutrient solution. I hope it helps!🌱🙂

    Hi thanks for the great video! So I'm filling a jar with this that I'm using as a container for the plant. When I refill the jar, should I throw out the existing solution or just fill top of it from the bucket again? Like how long does it generally take for the existing solution to be drained of nutrients?

    • @healinghobbies
      @healinghobbies  Год назад +2

      Hi Adam, It depends on what type of vegetable you are growing. If leafy greens and herbs which has a short growth cycle. You don't have to replace the existing nutrients just add the new nutrients in. However, fruiting vegetables require the refilling and replacement of nutrients, especially when they are grown in small containers. In my personal experience using the Kratky method outdoors, where I typically grow tomatoes, eggplants, and other fruiting and root vegetables in 5-gallon buckets, I make sure to clean the buckets and replace the nutrient solution at least 2x throughout the entire growth process. I also refill the solution as needed. It is important to leave a gap of 1-2 inches between the root base and the nutrient solution when refilling to allow air roots to grow and prevent the plant from drowning. I hope this helps!🌱🙂

    How do I know if I need a stronger mix of my nutrients?

    • @healinghobbies
      @healinghobbies  2 года назад

      Here are two of the charts I use as a guide on the type of plants I grow and check the PPM column. howhydroponics.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/EC-pH-and-PPM-Reading-Chart-by-howhydroponics.pdf. and homehydrosystems.com/ph_tds_ppm/ph_vegetables_page.html. I'd like to keep it simple so Lettuce & Tomato nutrient formula is my base. Lettuce ppm range is 840-1260, say I'd like to grow basil, mustard or pepper since they are within the range of lettuce. I use lettuce nutrient formula. I apply the same concept with Tomato. Tomato ppm range 1400-3500, eggplant, radish, beetroot etc. are within the range so I use tomato nutrient formula. If you'd like to be more specific please use the ppm meter. But those measures works for me and less complex. I hope this helps🌱🙂

    • @healinghobbies
      @healinghobbies  Год назад

      It depends on the system and the size of reservoir. Like the simple kratky 5 gallon bucket growing with tomatoes. The nutrient refill after 4-6wks from seedlings is at least 2x a week when they start to flower and set fruits. Yes you can add nutrients upon germination. I tried and experiment the 3 methods : half or full strength and when the seeds started to sprout or even when true leaves are set. There is no much difference. To me is more for convenience and what works best for you. I hope this helps! Keep growing!🌱🙂
