I happen to do everything by mass - kitchen scale gets used multiple times of day, just how our household happens to work. I took your recipe and basically assumed that the NPK and Calcium Nitrate are 1:1 by mass, then made sure to use half as much epsom salts. I've introduced the nutrient blend to our NFT system today - keeping the EC around 1.0 because I'm waiting for some seedlings to catch up with the strawberry crowns. Thanks for getting me started - I sincerely appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

What an excellent teacher Dr. John is. It is so much easier to whip up a half liter or liter of stock solution every few weeks instead of measuring out 2 gallons or 5 gal. worth at a time. Man kratky lettuce grows fast. Your students are blessed Dr. John.

Great simple easy to find and easy to make solutions! Pre-mixed solutions are mostly water for @20++ per container. Yours are a few percent of that! Thanks!
A good video, hydroponics is going to be increasingly important to provide food for the future of humanity. For example, this would allow people to thrive in desert environments as it uses 10 times less water than conventional horticulture. Also the parts of the plants which were not eaten could be composted, and used as part of a de-desertification programme.

There is a different ‘vibe’ to these videos than the Covid ones. Dr C seems to be more relaxed. However, the messages from from both channels are consistent in the facts that the content is clear, concise and can be easily followed by lay persons such as me. 👍☮️

I am a beginner....but I have an engineering degree...did not do well in chemistry. this was very easy to follow. So Cal has terrible hard tap water. I will get at Ph meter to help manage the balance. thank you so much! my goal is no more grocery store lettuce!!!!

This doesn't work so well for hydroponics as the calcium isn't immediately available from egg shells (it's Calcium Carbonate which isn't water-soluble. It needs to break down in the soil first).
I don’t have Miracle grow products or Masterblend product here in Australian, the closest I found is Yates Thrive All purpose Soluble fertilizer which is NPK/25 - 5 - 8.8 with trace micro nutrients, miracle grow is 24-8-16 and masterblend has 4-18-38

@@allanpeter5812 hello there buddy, im not really a pro when it comes to this one but i think, if you want, you can use npk with higher concentration of nitrogen in the early stages, like seedling stage. Dpending on each stage you can use npk which contents the plant needs the most as of the moment. Others also use npk of 20-20-20 so that from start til fruiting stage they dont need to adjust or change the contents of the nutrients since its already complete.

I'm just too Scottish to pay a fortune for the ready made A & B solutions. One thing I can't seem to glean from the video, is the ratios in your NPK fertiliser, so if either your good self or some kind soul who reads this would care to clue me up, it would be really appreciated.

The most clear cut explanation on RUclips. So grateful. One thing though: diluting an 8 mil solution in 1000 mil of water makes a ratio of 1 : 125, no?
Very good presentation in my opinion. I have a question regarding ratios: namely for 1 litre of water you add 4ml of A and 4ml of B. Together these make up 8ml of stock. Thus, the ratio to 1 litre of water in terms of stock would be 1000/8=125. It is said earlier that this ratio should be 250. Perhaps I have misunderstood. Thank you.
You only count one of the 4mls when determining the ration. This is because adding 4mls of solution A and 4mls of solution B to the 1000mls of water, is the same as if you had added all three components (NPK, Calcium Nitrtate, and Magnesium Sulfate) to solution A (so there is no solution B at all), then taken 4mls of solution A and diluted it in 1000mls water.

I grind up my used Egg Shells for adding Calcium into my soil works great also thanks for sharing etc.

This is because adding 4mls of solution A and 4mls of solution B to the 1000mls of water, is the same as if you had added all three components (NPK, Calcium Nitrtate, and Magnesium Sulfate) to solution A (so there is no solution B at all), then taken 4mls of solution A and diluted it in 1000mls water.
