Kevin Lomax never was forced into any situation. He did it all of his own free will. He was even told by John that he can step aside to take care of his wife. He chose his path.
And John's speech about "god" in the final scenes is fantastic. Showing a strange juxtaposition between God and Lucifer. Such a powerful movie.

@@BossMovieReactions What's shocking about Keanu's performance in that scene is it actually predates the death of his girlfriend/wife Jennier Syrne. Watching it you would think Keanu was pulling real grief. In 1999, he had a stillborn child with Jennifer. they had met just a year before. She later died after crashing her jeep while under the influence. The amount of pain Keanu went through from 1993 through the early 2000s is something. He lost his best friend, River Phoenix to a drug overdose, a daughter, a wife... A lot of that paint would later be used as inspiration for John Wick.

this is one of the great films! "Call me dad", one of the best lines; and the Devils speech when the ghosts are chasing Eddie Barzoon is up there with Quints speech in Jaws. The fact that you were both speechless at the end i think, shows what a brilliant film this is. It acts on many levels, morality, greed, freewill, spirituality and capitalism. Pacino stole the show on this one. Theron did a great job carrying the sub-plot that sold it. Vanity - my favourite sin!

I remember reading that Al Pacino refused this script more than once but ended up doing it, and it might be my favorite performance of his. I felt like his interpretation of the devil was so good because of its complexity. He could be subtle, he could be seductive, he could be antagonistic, he could be manipulative, and he could be enraged. When I watched this movie the first time I felt like he just did a good job, but after you watch it a few more times you pick up on every tactic, every angle of his character, and most importantly, the patience. Not only does John Milton spend the entire movie trying to get his son to make the antichrist, he's failed this many times and keeps on attempting.

Knowing law is the ultimate back stage pass! If you know contract law, lemme put it like this: Ooooooweeee! Study law and you'll be able to tell who knows what they're talkin about and who doesn't way faster than those who don't know law. In The Land of the Blind the guy with one good eye is King.

I watched another channel's reaction and she was joking so much to the point where she got caught up in the seduction of Milton and the decadent party upstairs, not so much defending Kevin and his wife from temptation and divisive forces at work. You two took it seriously, which is refreshing. And as one manly crier to another, good to see deep emotions being felt and expressed on your part. The church scene with Mary Ann, suicide scene, and final confrontation with "Dad" all are still to this day profound when I view them. Cried again while watching with you here. IMO: This might be Keanu's finest acting of his career, Charlize and Al are Oscar-level in their roles, the latter hitting it out of the park in that final office scene. Honestly, it still is the best depiction of the Devil in any film/movie I've ever seen. Writing it around his heading up the most powerful law firm in New York is brilliant. And the first time I watched this film, when that art piece came to "life" at the end? Freaked me out!

Hey Mike, really appreciate your willingness to show and share your emotions with us. It's weird, I notice as I've grown older (54 yo) the emotions in my heart overflow more than they ever had when I was younger. I don't know if this is a natural thing with aging or if it's a result of my growth with God over the years because the emotions that over flow and bring on tears are always associated with love or witnessing selfless courage or sacrifice. It can be embarrassing or even slightly irritating (because I'll be in public) but I wouldn't change it. Please continue to react to these very heartfelt movies. I would suggest Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai or End of Watch if you guys haven't seen them yet. 😎🙏❤️

I do that same thing....when the films touch me emotionally....my chest heaves just like this fella. I sing in public a lot and certain songs have the same effect.
That monologue by Pachino....the one where he indites God for how he set up the world is amazing and its probably why they chose to name the Devil "John Milton". Paradise Lost is generally read as a defense of the Devil. Its suggesting that Satan did not lie to Eve about the apple but, was infact telling her the truth....that eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.... wouldn't kill her but, make her stronger or more aptly, wiser.
the bible clearly states there are 2 Trees in the Garden. The Tree of Knowledge and The Tree of Life. Christian tradition tells us the Serpent tempted Eve with everlasting life....Milton claims the devil was honest and wanted Adam and Eve to join his rebellion against God.
This is why Pacino screams "I'm a fan of man". Hes sick of being held responsible for all the evil created by mankind when hes actually trying to empower us to help him topple the unjust rulership of Yaweh.
William Blake claims that Milton, in his epic poem Paradise Lost, was "of the Devil's party without knowing it." Meaning that Blake believed Milton was subconsciously glorifying Satan by expressing the story in Genesis, of the fall of man, from the Grace of God...from the Devil's point of veiw.

When a priest is to made saint or not a court is called, while a side tries to convince the passed away priest is to be saint for several reason, one priest tries to convince the council he is not to be made saint for other reasons. just to have an impartial judgement (it's never impartial). The priest convincing the guy is not worthy of ascendancy to sanctity is called "the devil's advocate".

Probably the best performance of the devil. This movie does a good job of revealing the corruptibility of the human spirit, and how easily we can be blinded by our emotions. Although Pacino is playing a supernatural figure in this film, we all know people like him, who manipulate and play other people. It's not just what MIlton says, it's when he lets the silence linger, and he let's the room fill with tension. He knows how to push buttons. That doesn't mean Kevin is absolved, not at all. He's arrogant, greedy, lustful, prideful, and, yes, vain. Watching Marryanne crumble and be destroyed is so true to reality. On rewatches its even more painful because you just want Kevin to stop and love his wife. Just go home, man.

12:52 very subtle bit of acting here by Pacino. He's slightly disappointed in his son. Just slightly. You can detect the twinge. "Yeah... That's the easy part." Throughout the movie the devil is both manipulating Kevin, but also trying to get him to cultivate his full potential. It's weird and twisted in a way, because the Devil can't really "love" in the true sense, but there is some kind of a fatherly element to his relationship with Kevin, buried under layers of distortion and perversion.

Randomly came across your channel last night. Honestly the best movie reaction I’ve ever seen. Watching this I was reminded of a saying I came across recently…Everyone has free will. Everyone makes their own destiny. The devil can only tempt…it can not act. Subbed. Look forward to seeing more reactions from you both. Ty

@10:27 -look at all of that urban blight that people cherish. Imagine that same view 600 years ago without "mankind." I want an office with floor to ceiling windows, but nowhere near any city.

As a Warhammer40k players these kind of movies (with evil, etc) hit me different... 'Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean. It is better to die for the Emperor than to live for yourself.'
