Charlize Theron's performance was amazing, as always. Not being religious myself (anymore) I have a bit of a different perspective on Lucifer as a literary character. A very difficult character to portray well, but Pacino gives us one of the best versions, ever. He has that laid-back sense of not really giving a crap about any of the drama, because he doesn't. Knowledge is power, and the Devil knows almost everything. Pacino puts out that kind of energy every second he's on the screen.

I was 26, she 34 and we looked the same age in Dec 2003. We were so hot, we were regularly approached by swinging couples, 3 times in a 6 month period. We always said no but were flattered & stayed in their orbit loosely. I have few regrets with her as we gave it all when we were in our prime. 7/29/23 miss you!

70s Pacino is definitely my favorite Pacino ('Serpico,' '...And Justice For All,' and 'Scarecrow' are MUSTS), but 90s Pacino said "f*ck subtlety" and created a whole other iconic era for his career, playing larger than life characters with a level of intensity (some people would dismissively regard as "over the top") that most actors would shy away from, but that he embraced with every inch of his being.
This film is 90s Pacino at his wildest 😂❤

This was the first movie that made me realize just how short Al Pacino really is ~ and yet he still dominates the entire movie. Just one of the most charismatic actors of all time.
I don't give a damn what you tempt me with, I'm not neglecting Charlize Theron after she's married me.... and that charming southern accent she adapted for this role just makes her even that much more endearing. Then to keep gaslighting her throughout the entire movie..... that's the real horror of this movie. I can deal with the demons, I can even face off against the devil...... but not a chance in hell I'm betraying the woman I love. Might as well put a dagger through my own heart.

    "Vanity, definitely my favorite sin."
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Nikita Ager.
That's Hot Fact: Charlize Theron thought long and hard about appearing fully nude in the film, having turned down Showgirls (1995) for precisely that reason. She finally agreed because she loved her character.
Art Before Ego Fact: Keanu Reeves accepted a lower salary so the producers could pay Al Pacino's asking price. When Pacino later heard about this, he donated the same amount of his salary to charity.
Subtle Storytelling Fact: Keanu Reeves's suit gets darker as the movie progresses. It starts as a light color and then goes through increasingly dark shades of gray. By the end of the movie, his suit is black. This is indicative of his character's decreasing morality throughout the movie.
Boxing Enthusiast Fact: Lomax (Keanu Reeves) and Milton (Al Pacino) run into Don King at the bout. King was in attendance that night, because one of the fighters he promoted at the time, Oba Carr, fought on the undercard of the Roy Jones Jr.-Bryant Brannon bout. Carr lost a 12-round decision to WBA welterweight champion Ike Quartey.
Location Location Fact: The outdoor patio in John Milton's (Al Pacino) office was actually on the 50th floor of a New York City building. The actual stage was eight feet away from the edge of the building. President Donald Trump's private residential multi-level apartment at Trump Tower was used as Alex Cullen's (Craig T. Nelson) home. Trump's landmark gold decor, and classic view of Central Park, provide a familiar New York City backdrop. Appearing on the WTF podcast, writer Tony Gilroy said: "We needed the ugliest, most garish, horrifying real estate developer apartment you could possible have and Trump threw his apartment at us."

When a priest is to made saint or not a court is called, while a side tries to convince the passed away priest is to be saint for several reason, one priest tries to convince the council he is not to be made saint for other reasons. just to have an impartial judgement (it's never impartial). The priest convincing the guy is not worthy of ascendancy to sanctity is called "the devil's advocate".

Real Life Fact: The Devil's Advocate is a real position in the Catholic Church when they create saints. In the past the church was making too many saints, so they tried to vet the process and Advocatus Diaboli was born. Basically one side gives arguments in favor of making the person a saint and the opposing side, the Devil's Advocate, gives reasons against.

I don’t know about that but Jeffery Jones is an actual child predator in real life. I don’t want to mention what happened to the little boy. You can WIKI it he’s a sick monster that should have got more time. Not probation.

You’re right, Don King is the Devil. That’s why he styles his hair that way, so you don’t see the horns.
I’d love to see you do a reaction to Insomnia, it’s another great Al Pacino movie with Robin Williams costarring in it.

    "He can rewind time."
I think that was God. There's a sound cue at the start of the movie at that exact moment (it's overlaid with the toilet flushing.)
The whole point is we are all under the test every day. Any number of things can tempt us and twist us. Even in just small ways. "It's you, you're a star!" Appealed to his ego, and got him on the wrong path again. Now Kevin will turn into a media sensation and get involved in money, drugs, and other women.
What makes this movie so great to me is I think its probably the single best break down, boots on the ground, depiction of what sin is, how it works, and why we all have to be careful of it. On the religious side, it shows exactly why we have to stay close to Jesus Christ. For the non-religious it works as a great morality play about the fallibility of man. Temptation is powerful, subtle, and tricky. It is the Devil's domain.
The movie does a great job of dialing the nob on the supernatural element as well. Things are very subtle in the beginning. That odd sound cue in the bathroom, the oddness of Milton's office and the water in the sky vibe of his tower... then the first case, with voodoo used to silence the other lawyer.... Until we are in full fever pitch with premonitions, nightmares, visions, and outright supernatural stuff going on. It hits you hard on that first time view, but rewatches let you pick up so many wonderful details.
I love this movie. It's my favorite depiction of the Devil hands down.
EOM, I know you got a patreon who no doubt have you loaded down with movies to watch, but I strongly suggest "A Simple Plan" from 1998. It is one of my favorite Hitchcock inspired movies... Sam Raimi, in between his Evil Dead-Darkman phase and his Spider Man phase. It's a great movie that gets almost no love at all.

Loved watching this movie with you...but you let me down. Rewatch the scene where Charlize kills herself and pay attention to Keanu's acting. It is brilliant. I know the critics enjoy slagging him off but directors like Bertolucci have praised him. People might not like his style (he is a reactor, not an actor, imo) but to suggest he has no talent is inaccurate and unfair. If you can find him believable as Ted Logan (Bill & Ted), Neo (The Matrix), John Wick, and now this character, then that proves he has acting chops.
