Judy,I love your singing as well. This is a question: Did you ever want an opportunity to be able to sing in a scene of The Waltons? What is your preference, singing as a solo artist, or in combination with a character, such as in a musical, in a team along with other actors? I always have respect for artists in musicals, you have to deliver your lines well,as well as be good at singing, which also brings the character to life.
When I was a Lions Club member, We were in charge of maintaining the gates on the Portage County Charity Horse Show Events that were held at Sun Beau Valley Farms in Ravenna Township Ohio. Unsure if you or your horses participated in that event before or not.
Hello Judy, thank you for another great segment of Ask Judy! I think it was wonderful that you were able to go to the prom. Do you have pictures of that evening with the dress your Mom helped you to make? Would love to see it. Have a great week, and thank you again!! Kathy 🥰
Hi Judy, sounds like you had a very good childhood and teenage years, with lots of fun memories. I had a special childhood also, mostly because I had an amazing mother, growing up in a beautiful neighborhood in Illinois. Then, right before I turned 13, my dad moved us to Southern California, Mission Viejo in Orange County, and that was a really nice area, but what a change from the Midwest!!! Sunshine every day and everyone was blonde and tan, lol. This was in the 70’s.
Barry Livingston from "My Three Sons" has said they would get 12-15 scripts at a time that they had to learn because of Fred MacMurray's shooting schedule. Did you have to learn multiple scripts at time or did you basically work on a "week-to-week" schedule? I can't imagine having to work multiple episodes at a time.
We had one at a time week to week - or every 6 ½ days. For My Three Sons, they would still only shoot so many pages in a day, so it would still be about learning maybe 8 - 10 pages of dialogue for a day of filming, then the same for the next day.
This was fun! I really enjoyed hearing about it, especially your discovery of and affection for musical theatre. Thanks for sharing. (Great dress too!)
Hi Judy, last week my wife and I were in California and got to go to Warner brothers studio. It was very exciting to see how movies and tv shows are made! We saw the church/ school that was on the Walton’s! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, I enjoy it very much! Ken
While growing up I loved watching those Battle of the Network Stars and Circus of the Stars shows. Sure beats some of todays very often negative reality programs. Wish they'd bring them back! It's nice your prom experience was rooted in the romance of Camelot. I got to play Merlin once...great show and score! Thanks Judy! ✨🧙💫💖
I was raised in a large family of 13 on various farms in Southeastern Ohio and later in West Virginia. I was also raised in a very strict Christian family, where dancing was considered sinful. I was very bashful in high school and never had a girlfriend or even a girl friend until my adult life. Since my family moved from Ohio to West Virginia during my senior year, I was part of two high schools and two senior classes. I never went to a prom; junior or senior. I was just too bashful to even talk to a girl, let alone ask one to a prom. Since I didn't dance, I wouldn't have been comfortable there anyway. After graduating, I enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in California, where I met the first lady who even paid much attention to me. I was already 21 years old by that time. I ended up marrying her and bringing her back here to West Virginia. We have a son who is now a journalist and 42 years old. I wish I could have been a little more outgoing, but it wasn't to be.
I love horses but I wish I was brave enough to ride. To me to sit on a horse I was too high up and afraid I'd fall off. Roller Skating I learned when I was 6 and skated every weekend until 28 yo. Then I fell on the rink and fx my pelvis. Lol
Did you have any extensive equestrian training prior to or during The Waltons? You handle the horses very well when you were in the horse race and when you were a rural nurse.
Yes, I started learning to ride and jump when I was 15 thanks to a costumer I was working with. I’ve been riding and jumping ever since and still do :) Glad it showed!
Judy, I think the reason that you had a balanced childhood was the example that your parents set for you and the guidance that you received from your co workers on The Waltons. I would like to see a segment to see what goes into producing your podcast. For example, how do you get guests, what permission do you need to show clips etc.I hope that you have a wonderful day.
My wife and I love your channel. Question for you. When filming the movie theater scenes, were they shot in one of the screenng room theaters on the lot or one of the sound stages?
Hi Judy, I’ve always wondered if the budgets for each episode was the same? It seems like some episodes were more expensive than others, particularly if filmed on location like at Frazier Park or if the studio needed to rent special props like a Ferris wheel. Thanks.
My understanding is that the budget was the same for each episode, but if they didn’t spend it all on one show I imagine they could spend extra on another one. Ralph Senensky has said that he sometimes negotiated to shoot a day shorter to have the Frazier Park location so that was a trade off.
Judy; you were the ‘Wonder Woman ’ of your time! Besides being the prom girl you were jumping horses, you were a flyer on a trapeze (Tony Curtis played one in a movie with Burt Lancaster, did you ever meet either of them? ), tennis - is there any names you could drop here about that? A gamer against other show participants, softball - for some reason I immediately thought of ‘The Catcher In The Rye’, and of course your theatre live shows, that takes no small amount of courage to step out on a stage in front of an audience, and I like that one a lot as it was at one of them that I met you and you autographed my credit card slip. I doubt many of your fans can say that! Would be thrilled to meet you again now 😚 As always I love to see you in different uh… outfits? Costumes? Uniforms maybe? 😇
Very curious - is that bamboo real? Are you a big into houseplants? And if it's real, how do you keep it growing? Also, the little copper birdhouse is kinda cool. Thanks for this show. Hope all is going well.
The bamboo is not real :). I do love house plants. Love to have green in the house. The little bird house is part of a set I have that are made by an injured veteran. I loved it and wanted to support his work.
I had a surreal experience recently, a friend of mine told me that his cousin was Elle Macpherson. Now this friend is to be honest pretty homely. My point is the it was an example that celebrities have normal lives.
Hi Judy. Thank you so much for your wonderful channel so that we can enjoy The Waltons ,as well as all the other fascinating information, behind the scenes, that you share with us,fans. This is a question from Tamara from The Netherlands. I can remember from my experience as an extra in this film that I did way back in the 80s,that there was an incredible amount of waiting time for the extras. Some people read books to pass the time and others talked to one another. So my question is,what do actors do to pass the waiting time? I guess off the set, actors read, converse and perhaps, now, also use their cell phones to google or text, tel, etc.? Or would this be considered too distracting,in case an actor could be called upon to film his/her part in the scene,or to be called upon, suddenly,to do a scene (or part of a scene) that the director has made a last minute change to?
I imagine it’s changed a bit over the decades, but reading a book, hanging out and chatting were still common. If I had heavy emotional scenes to do, I’d tend to sit on my own and focused more on the character and scene.
Hi Judy my wife just found your you tube channel we have just watched the car episode with Johns blue car. We watch it in German language in Switzerland. Great idea with this behind the scenes channel. Thank you for this and the Walton's Have a lovely day Martin
Kami is a huge college football fan and perhaps some other sports. I have always watched some sports. Not a lot in the cast, but definitely in the crew.
Thanks Judy. I have a question about your siblings. Do you have any? Were any of them interested in the business and did you get along with them since you may have had more attention than them?
I remember the picture you showed of you in your roller skates when you did that promotion. The film Shakespeare in Love shows what early theatre productions are like but they must still be similar to what you have done. If TV and film ever come to an end i think things will go back to those kind of productions. Never been to a theatre production. In tennis news...novak has hinted that he will retire soon. He's won everything and wants to spend time with his family. I would like to live in the beautiful Herefordshire Castle Eastnor...that kind of thing, majestic staircases, but I also like certain Palm Springs houses...very different from the Walton house...but I would need the Walton Mill to help build them....and tennis courts, and other things....
Theatre does give an option to do various types of shows - not necessarily the big spectacles, but all of it has become so expensive to do that it’s a shame it limits things. A castle sounds lovely - but I wouldn’t want the heating bill! lol
I love how grounded all of you seem to be. We hear horror stories about some other child/teen TV stars about their unfortunate lives after the end of their shows whether it be drugs or criminal activity etc. But all of the Walton actors seem to have escaped all of that. I am sure you have all had problems to deal with but compared to some former child stars, you all seem pretty grounded. Why do you think that is? Good parenting? Good on set role models?
Thank you. We have been fortunate. We feel it had a lot to do with having each other. We banded together and so never felt alone in whatever the pressures were. We always had someone else who could completely relate to what we were experiencing so didn’t feel isolated.
Judy was wondering if you ever were jealous of another cast member because they got a part that you wanted or they got more lines than you did etc? If so how did you handle it?
I’m freelancing. Doing more individual projects. Like this YT channel. Planning some fund raisers for the arts which will be concert based. Mary has a couple of film projects she’s done recently. Jon is often working on music projects.
@@judynorton2598 Awesome. I'd love to see all of you on screen together again, but I'd settle for individual projects fir each you. You are all so amazingly talented.
Hi Judy,Just love your channel with it's variation in topics, guest appearances, etc. These are two questions from Tamara from The Netherlands. Is there a limit as to how many takes a director can do to perfect a scene, and does it vary if it is on a television show, like The Waltons for example,or on a film? And the second part of my question is: do you remember of any instances when there were so many takes done, that the actors on the set, started to get silly or tired from the exhausting shooting? Either on The Waltons, or any other show you have done?
Maybe you answered this question before, but how did the filming crew deal with reflective props such as mirrors, cabinet doors, picture frame glass,or glossy car exteriors to name a few. On some programs I have watched I have seen camera reflections in mirrors, and china cabinets.I have even seen shadows of equipment on walls I haven't noticed anything like that on The Walton's,but I have on other tv shows and movies.I bet that can be a bit complicated, especially on scenes when someone is looking in a mirror.
Sometimes they take the glass out of cabinet doors, or use a dulling spray. Sometimes they use “flags” on the lights to block light from hitting something and reflecting. If they can angle something to avoid the reflection they do that also.
@@judynorton2598 I never heard of dulling spray,I will be looking that one up tonight! I never heard of the "flags" either, but I figured they must have some way of filtering light. I suppose it would be much easier to remove the glass in most cabinet or window props than trying to keep it from reflecting. There is a lot more that goes into filming than most people think!A lot of hard work!Thank you for answering my question!
Hi Judy. How were night scenes filmed? Where any scenes actually filmed at night? I have noticed that in some scenes, it is only dark in certain areas where the actors are, and what looks like sunlight in other areas of the same frame. Thank you, Doreen
Some were shot at night like for The Burn Out - the night fire sequence was a Friday night so we could film late. Many times night scenes were shot later in the day, but not dark - these were “day for night” ie: shot in the day for a night scene.
Wow no wonder you talk about lighting so much!!! I just started my youtube channel and let me tell ya lol Loved this segment of your page, always do..................❤ when will your Christmas CD be ready.....

What a FUN and sweet prom story!!!!! Thanks for sharing. What a good Monday tale!
For a second, I thought it read, something other than "prom." 😯
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wanted to see you all when you came to Pennsylvania about a month ago but I had to work. I love this show so much!!
Several of the cast will be in PA the first weekend of Oct. - so not too late :)
Ohh nice!! Thank you!!
I have often wondered if you ever thought of playing another character on "The Waltons such as Erin instead of Mary Ellen. After watching the series and movies about 10+ times, I realized that NO ONE else could fill the shoes of Mary Ellen but you Judy. Thank you so much.
I loved playing Mary Ellen. She was the best fit for me as I was a tomboy myself :)
Love that picture of you on the Jeep!❤
Thanks :)
Hi Judy
I’m back, I’ve been though open heart surgery pneumonia all kinds of sickness. But I’m much much better now. Came right back to watch you. I’ve missed a lot of
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your health issues. so glad you are much better now. Welcome back!!
Thank you for your interest. I’ll try to take this up soon.
When I was a Lions Club member, We were in charge of maintaining the gates on the Portage County Charity Horse Show Events that were held at Sun Beau Valley Farms in Ravenna Township Ohio. Unsure if you or your horses participated in that event before or not.
I’ve never competed in a horse show outside of Calif.
@@judynorton2598 oh wow
Hello Judy, thank you for another great segment of Ask Judy! I think it was wonderful that you were able to go to the prom. Do you have pictures of that evening with the dress your Mom helped you to make? Would love to see it. Have a great week, and thank you again!! Kathy 🥰
Glad you enjoyed this. I do have some snapshots but no idea where they are.
👏👍
Hi Judy, sounds like you had a very good childhood and teenage years, with lots of fun memories. I had a special childhood also, mostly because I had an amazing mother, growing up in a beautiful neighborhood in Illinois. Then, right before I turned 13, my dad moved us to Southern California, Mission Viejo in Orange County, and that was a really nice area, but what a change from the Midwest!!! Sunshine every day and everyone was blonde and tan, lol. This was in the 70’s.
So glad you had a wonderful childhood.
Thank you Judy for letting us know more about yourself as a person. Have a great week!
Glad you enjoyed this.
It's nice to see that you stayed grounded, never forget your roots, never forget where you came from and keep on doing what you're doing. 👍
Thank you so much.
This was fun! I really enjoyed hearing about it, especially your discovery of and affection for musical theatre. Thanks for sharing. (Great dress too!)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this.
Hi Judy, last week my wife and I were in California and got to go to Warner brothers studio. It was very exciting to see how movies and tv shows are made! We saw the church/ school that was on the Walton’s! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, I enjoy it very much! Ken
That is so great you were able to visit Warner Bros and see some of the sets.
✨🧙💫💖
So great to hear. One of my bucket list items was to do a production of Camelot. Hasn’t happened yet :). Maybe I could play Merlin? lol

🤭 Why not?
There's nothing wrong with being a late bloomer, I'm sure you caught up fast... and with less drama...bless you and family
You found a journey that worked for you. I also believe it’s never too late to make changes if you so choose. :)
You should post your prom pic❤❤
That would take some digging up :)
I love horses but I wish I was brave enough to ride. To me to sit on a horse I was too high up and afraid I'd fall off. Roller Skating I learned when I was 6 and skated every weekend until 28 yo. Then I fell on the rink and fx my pelvis. Lol
I understand. Horses can definitely be intimidating.
I am glad that you were able to go to a prom, even though it was not your own. Good memories.
Sweet memories, indeed :)
Thank you for your interest. I’ll see if I can expand on this a bit.
I’ll see about taking this up soon.

Very curious - is that bamboo real? Are you a big into houseplants? And if it's real, how do you keep it growing? Also, the little copper birdhouse is kinda cool. Thanks for this show. Hope all is going well.
@jd-gp3nf ~😊 I wondered the same? 🪴
The bamboo is not real :).

Very true.
Thank you for this and the Walton's
Have a lovely day Martin
Welcome to our family!
Thank you so much. Welcome! I hope you enjoy more of these videos.
i did like the waltons on family feud.
We got our butts kicked but had fun.
Who were the biggest Sports fans on the cast? Any Football chatter on Mondays?
Kami is a huge college football fan and perhaps some other sports. I have always watched some sports. Not a lot in the cast, but definitely in the crew.
Thanks Judy. I have a question about your siblings. Do you have any? Were any of them interested in the business and did you get along with them since you may have had more attention than them?
Yes - 1 brother, 1 sister. I get along great with both of them. They both did a little bit of work at children but neither pursued it.
A castle sounds lovely - but I wouldn’t want the heating bill! lol
😉🌟💖💘♥️⭐️
It usually balanced out and we were all working together so there really weren’t issues like that on our show.
Great Video Judy👍 Tks❤
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
what projects are you currently working on? interested in? will you ever do another series? what about the other 'Walron's' kids?
I’m freelancing. Doing more individual projects. Like this YT channel. Planning some fund raisers for the arts which will be concert based. Mary has a couple of film projects she’s done recently. Jon is often working on music projects.
@@judynorton2598 Awesome. I'd love to see all of you on screen together again, but I'd settle for individual projects fir each you. You are all so amazingly talented.
Do you ever talk with Melissa Gilbert? I wish she would do what you're doing and tell us about Little House. 😊
I don’t have a lot of contact with Melissa, just some swapped messages here and there.
Fun questions. I’ll try to answer soon.
Judy how old were yoy when you started the waltons im guessing 14 loved your q and a video
Glad you enjoyed this. I was 13 when I was cast in The Homecoming and 14 the first season of The Waltons.
Could u please talk about meri Earle what she was like. She is a true inspiration
I’ve touched on her a bit when I’ve covered an episode she is in - will try to share more.
@@judynorton2598 Thank you!
Judy: When did the shooting (filming) season begin and end?
We usually began late May-early June and ended early Feb.
Wow no wonder you talk about lighting so much!!! I just started my youtube channel and let me tell ya lol Loved this segment of your page, always do..................❤ when will your Christmas CD be ready.....
Yep - lighting can be challenging! Glad you enjoyed this. My Christmas CD was released a couple of years ago and is always available through my website (hard copy signed) or on streaming platforms, or amazon streaming etc.
