As you will see in the upcoming review, I was absolutely blown away by the 458. That being said, no car is perfect so here are 5 things I hate about the Ferrari 458!

LOL... i had a datsun 280 zx in high school. I now have multiple exotics and muscle cars. One being the 458. I figured you only go around once in life, so i became a doc. and made one very smart investment on top of it. You can go from Datsun to whatever your heart desires. It's how bad do you really want it?!
I've personally rented a 458 spyder out in the UAE twice, driving for 2-3 days each time and I find the car brilliant. The craftsmanship, the leather, the exhaust note and the driving experience in general are more than great! None of the things Parker points out bothered me. I think that out of all the supercars I have owned and driven I would place the 458 Spyder in the top 3 easily.
This is a very old comment. But, I wanted to ask, how much did it cost you to rent the car? I’m in the UAE too.
@@stealth1384 No problem. As long as I can remember it was in the neighborhood of $2400 for 3 days. The longer you rent the car, the better daily rate you get.

Yeah you shouldn't be shifting if you're turning the wheel far enough to be off the paddles.

I've had them both and I prefer column mounted shifter paddles to the steering wheel mounted paddles. If you shuffle steer paddle shifters aren't good. Also, you should't be shifting gears while being hand-over-hand deep in a turn in the first place.
You're going to need a bigger lemonade stand for this thing.
Hold the Back/View button for the big speedo (3rd button on the right set of infotainment controls). It changes the entire right screen to a huge speedo
I love having the paddles on the column. It would bug me if they moved around as I turned the wheel.

something huge that's fun is missing at any price:
a clutch pedal and the seven-speed manual transmission that goes along with it.
that's (the only reason) why the 458 (italia) would not be my first choice. here in 2023, my first choice would be a manual 992 GT3.
i'd even roll with a manual C5 or C7 Z06 (as a daily) before the 458.
that being said, the 458 italia is the sexiest car ever built. i've never owned an automatic, so... i'm very much locked into manual transmissions.

Caraholic King No camera is what surprises me, you'd think the screen for it would be in the rear view mirror like the Veyron.
Gmanmovies09 there is a camera in the later models but not in the earlier ones like this car and for a car like this i totally love this thing but there should be sensors atleast

But wait, little confused about point #2. I raced one of these at ExoticsRacing on the track. I didn't notice the paddle problem being mounted on the column, because aren't you not supposed to shift in a turn that dramatic anyway??
He's right on #2 for sure. You can get replacement paddles that are longer (go down further) for more coverage.

The horn on the Countach is located on the turn signal stock, or at least what looks like a turn signal stock.
1. that is how a car throttle pedal is SUPPOSED to work (not as you described with an amount of freeplay slack) 2. your hands are too BIG 3. many cars don't have a centrally operated Horn because of airbags, Ferrari speedos have always been traditionally smaller than the tacho gauge 4. the extra weight and less structual rigidity cannot be felt, Spider (retractable roof) cars have ALWAYS had the engine hidden traditionally 5. The price of exotic car ownership, most "real" owners actually love this about their cars.
I learned to drive in a 1983 Ford LTD wagon. The horn was located on the turn signal stalk. You pushed the stalk in towards the column.
I HATE paddles that are mounted to the wheel. Just imagine if an old column mounted manual shifter MOVED with the wheel! I want my shifter to be in the same place for muscle memory consistency, period.
If you're down shifting your wheel should be mostly straight, and if you're up shifting then using your left hand only on the wheel turning while reaching for an upshift with your right hand should be second nature for anyone who's used to a left-hand drive manual car...

I drove the 458 at Exotics Racing in vegas and I didn't have any trouble shifting with the paddles fixed to the column. I have a Subaru Legacy and I get confused with the paddles when I'm turning. (my hands don't stay on the wheel in sharper turns).
It should have a heads up display with a speedometer so you don't have to look away from what you're focused on

The speedometer can be on the right and in very large font. You just had it programmed differently.

It is nothing short of a crime that such a magnificent road car has only 1400 miles.

Porsche puts the shifter paddles on the steering wheel, they move with the wheel. Why Ferrari has never done this, boggles the mind.

1999 Honda Civic horn the same. I hate small cars and have little experience in sports cars but hope they have almost as much driver room as full size sedans.
3. You can change the speedometer to take up the full screen in large letters.

My 1990 Iroc-z has the horn buttons in a location similar to the 458's. It's really weird...

Dunno if someone has already mentioned, but you can get a huge speedometer to show up on the right screen. U just gotta know how to do it.
My Range Rover Sport has two long vertical buttons to honk the horn, definitely took some getting used to when I first bought it.

#3 - a 1998 Ford Falcon we used to own had its horn on both sides of the steering wheel. APparently to get out of the way for the airbag

I have a Honda prelude and the horn is not in the Center but has 2 smaller buttons to the left and the right and yes it can definitely be a problem in an emergency situation.

Parker, I can think of another car that has a horn that isn't mounted in the center of the wheel. 1990 Miata. They had little buttons on the side.
My 95 Dodge Ram has horn buttons towards the sides of the wheel where you hold it. Not the center.

Pagani cars also have the horn located on the side of the steering wheel.
Reason why the paddles are on the column and no the wheel is because anytime you go into a turn you supposed to have all shifting done before the turn so if you shifting in the middle of the turn like you explained then you're doing it wrong and should probably get a Prius instead!
4) Capristo sells a glass engine cover for the spider. Although I agree it should've been like that to start with
Parker, the Land Rover discovery 2 has its horn buttons located at 9&3 on the spoke, then the LR3/4 have two thin bars located on each side of the airbags, by the way could you review the new velar or the newest LR4
About speedometer display you are wrong when you said it's not visible because reading is too small we can select speed display wether on left and right taking the whole screen and becomes very visible then
Yeah that throttle response problem is the same with a tuned GTR lol. Jerks around a lot. I don't mind it though.

If you're driving hard, and you're turning, you're supposed to be in the gear you're supposed to prior to the turn anyway. My 02 Kia Spectra also have the horns located on buttons and not the center of the wheels.
Work through the settings, there's a way to get a large digital Speedo.
A lot of cars have the horn mounted other than the center....I own a 1st gen Miata and there are buttons for the horn next to the air the air bag

My Miata has the horn is at 9 and 3 and to be honest it is very confusing when you're not used to it.

Hmmmm yea try doing that 2-5 more times and having your points slowly accumulate over the 20 range of your driver's license = you won't be driving for a another 3-5 years...yea nice try but that would be a big waste of time of your life without driving.
I have an Infiniti m37x and the eco mode makes the gas pedal kinda push back when you're not giving it much gas

Biggest problem is the drivers side AC vents don't actually hit the driver. Theres just cool air brushing your shoulders all the time
Forever will I say the horn should be right in the middle of the wheel, so if you need to you can slam your hand on it. As writing this, I can say that earlier I had to and I am glad it was there. You can say in an emergency situation you could remember its not there, however, the amount of time you would drive this car is far far too little than the amount of times you'd need that horn. Along with that, the time it would take to then move your thumbs to the horn is a precious second or two you need to safely stop, if possible. Safety equipment used in emergency situations should NEVER be replaced with something to replicate a race car.

The Pagani Huayra has the horn in the sides of the steering wheel as well.
It’s kind of funny. I have an Aprilia Motorcycle. And they decided to put the horn button in a non standard place on that one too. It’s literally dangerous. Well... it was. I replaced the whole left hand switch assembly with a standard switch assembly so I now have my horn situated where my thumb automatically reaches for it... like on all of my other motorcycles! I don’t claim to be smarter than them BUT.....
2nd. At speed (as you are reffering to) there is no way that you have to turn your wheel more then 90°. The pedals are easily long enough.

The paddles are column mounted almost primarily because you're not supposed to be shifting mid-turn. That's a bad driving habit as it can upset the car.
