I use water and soda crystals solution to clean my dogs jacket and collar now and again. Esp when he decides to roll in something nasty.. Leave it soaking a few hours in a large bucket, hang it to dry, good as new! Works great!
So I can't use soda crystals on the heating elements or shiny bits then, is that right? (It would have been good to see a dirty oven being cleaned though)
+Carol Frost Hi Carol - it's aluminium that you shouldn't use Soda Crystals on. You should never get ANY liquids on the heating elements. If you want to play it very safe, you can remove them first. Always isolate the electrics before cleaning. Sorry it wasn't dirty enough initially. With ovens, it's better to clean them regularly. The more spills are continually cooked, the tougher then become to remove.
Would have been useful to see it in action rather than using it on an already clean oven. Usually the proof of the pudding is in the eating? Surely an accurate demonstration would have been better.
The advertising agency missed a trick by not casting a male donning his Marigolds and doing it. It's the only thing we really do with ovens (besides grilling bacon/sausages) apart from cleaning them!
Add aluminium foil to the soda crystal solution and then soak anything that isn't aluminium. It's brilliant - suggest you do check that what you are soaking won't be ruined by the aluminium and soda solution though.
Soda crystals are sodium carbonate (not sodium bicarbonate). This is sold in the U.S. as "washing soda", most commonly under the Arm and Hammer brand. You can find it with the laundry detergents in most large grocery stores, etc., and it is quite inexpensive. It's a little on the mild side for oven cleaning, but is great for a lot of other things.
What a palaver cleaning oven with soda crystals. There is a much better way using bi-carb. Make a paste wipe it over walls, back, door , side rack and BOTTOM SHELF only. Next time just wipe it off with all the grease that has been absorbed. Then do it again for next time. This is an old NAAFI trick.

Soda Crystals are similar to bicarb but actually even better at absorbing grease.
Pro tip, soda crystals do fuck all. It's not as eco but at least proper oven cleaner works.
This is based off trying twice for hours with soda crystals as per this video.. It's no better than just water. That's bad.
Someone should add subtitles in English!
