This worked GREAT!!! It was like magic. The trick was finding a tub to soak the oven racks in. Home Depot sells a 36" x 24" x 8" black plastic one for $18 and it works really well. We let the racks soak for an hour and they cleaned up extremely well and they look like new. Thanks so much for this tip, Don!
You could definitely do this with just the dish soap and hot water. Make sure you aren't using any abrasive scrubbers like the sponges we showed. You'll just want to use the soft side of a sponge or a washcloth to wipe them down so you don't scratch them. A tip for cast iron too is you can use vinegar and baking soda to get tough grime off!
Hi there, Are your racks Chrome? I have Chrome Electrolux Glide Racks. I soaked in tub overnight and there seem to be rust stains where the grids attached to each other (solder areas). Also, should the glide part be submersed? Will it lessen the effectiveness of easy glide?
Would it be safe to empty the dirty cleaning water down the drain or toilet, or should it be tossed outside? Would the dirty (greasy?) solution maybe lead to clogging a sink/toilet? Thanks!!
I 'inherited' my oven and while the oven racks are clean, they are not bright silver. A lot of the racks have a dull bronze sheen colour to them. Can these ever get back to bright silver?
I’m trying the ammonia in the garbage bag. Then if it doesn’t work I’ll try this. It’s been a 3 day process with Brillo pads dishwashing pods, the blue dish soap they use for grease on animals. Nothing working. I scrubbed for 2 hours also. It must be the dryer sheets!
After a quick towel-dry, why not put the racks back in the oven on 250 to evaporate the remaining water rather than letting them air dry on the counter or in the sink?
Question… I left my racks inside oven when I used the self cleaning process… twice!! Now my racks are burned.. scorch looking… dark .. they are stainless… will this work to restore my racks??
@@loupennebaker2038sorry to hear that. In my booklet It says not to leave your racks in the oven during the self cleaning process because it may cause discoloring. I say try it and see what happens.

Thanks for letting us know you tried this and we are glad it worked for you too! It's a trick that a lot of people don't know about.
Thx @zuma4190 for the HD tip!
I've watched several oven cleaning videos and this is the best one yet. I have a portable steamer that I'm going to try on them.
We are glad you liked the video!
❤
@@rasheedmohammed6613 Thanks for the love!
Whoa! I am definitely going to try this. Thank you!
That's great! Let us know what you think!
6:33 why do they have to be dry to put back in the oven?
Can I use a bathtub or will it stain the tub?
I used my tub and had no issues.
Thank you! Thank you! May God bless you! I was dreading to clean them. I have double ovens. ❤❤Now I can’t wait to clean the rest!
Glad to hear we could help! Happy cleaning!
Amazing! Really have to try this. Thanks
It works really well!
Omg!!! I can’t wait to try!! Will it work on cast iron grates??? I like keeping mine clean too!

You're welcome!
Awesome- thank you!
You're very welcome!
I'm going to try this!
Wow! Thank you!!!

Really good job. What isin the dryer sheets that makes this so effective?
Thank you😊
You're welcome 😊

Dryer sheets are basic. They work by attacking fatty acids. #chemistry
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Wow! This looks so easy! What type of dryer sheets do you use and how many sheets?
We used about 3-4 sheets of generic brand dryer sheets!
Dryer sheet is same effect as fabric softener liquid.
Thanks
You're welcome!
What's that red tool you use to get the heavier stuff of called?
It's a rubbermaid reveal power scrubber brush!
Thank you very much. I'll be buying one.@@Donsappliances
Going to try this tonight! What is that silver scrubber your using?
We sell these - they are non-bacterial non-stick scrubbers.
I use heavy duty purple degreaser for soaking...
do you ever need to oil the tracks and if so with what?
You can use any oven safe oil such as olive oil, or vegetable oil.
@@Donsappliances Thank you so much.
WOW
That's what we said too!
I put mine in a garbage bag and put ammonia in it. Tie the bag and let it sit overnight.
MAGIC!!!

They can definitely be cleaned, but with age and use they will never fully be 100% bright silver again.
A better paste is 1 c Dawn plus 1/4 ammonia and 1/2 baking soda
Any tough spot with rotor brush - take outdoors and rinse with hose and dry
You can also definitely do this!

Maybe take the racks outside to hose them off with the sprayer. ..unless it's the middle of winter with lots of ice or snow outside of course lol.
Soaking is an important step in this process!
@@Donsappliances I was more so talking about at the end when cleaning the racks off (after all the other things have previously been done to them).
After a quick towel-dry, why not put the racks back in the oven on 250 to evaporate the remaining water rather than letting them air dry on the counter or in the sink?
You could do that! That's a good suggestion.

Did you use 3 dryer sheets?
There were 3 used in the video yes, but you could use 2 - 5.
No. Freaking. Way.
I must try this.
Thank you!
Of course!
I was skeptical, but wow this worked beyond words and my racks were embarassing.
We're so glad to hear that! Thanks for sharing your feedback with us.
What's the idea behind the dryer sheets? What are dryer sheets normally used for? Never seen this concept before.
The coating on dryer sheets can help break down tough grease spots. The compound helps work against tough grime.
Probably could use a electric toothbrush haha😊
That would probably work to scrub these as well!
