There are two types of people that say test scores don't matter. 1. People with extremely low test scores. 2. People with 1600s on the SAT or 36s on the ACT.
they dont matter in that if you can prove you're capable in other ways that's just as credible. The thing is, if you're capable of proving yourself capable, 99% of the time you have perfect scores, gpa
It’s not that it doesn’t matter, it’s that those types of stats are the baseline. If you have them but don’t have the extracurricular/personality they want, then you won’t get in
I think what people need to realize is that college admissions are not always consistent. Generally yes, they admit the best possible applicants that apply to their college. But it's entirely possible to be denied from Berkeley or Stanford and get accepted at Harvard. You can also no get accepted to Harvard, but get accepted to Yale, Princeton or Dartmouth. An example from me, is that I had a friend who was smarter than me in high school. We both applied to a "less than prestigious" UC and I got accepted and he didn't.
also the applicant pool may be different at each school. I can totally see how a school that is known for being good but doesn't have as big of a name as harvard has tons of brilliant applicants because many may think off the bat that they aren't good enough for Harvard.
Thanks for this! I got into Havard but had a sense of Imposter syndrome due to my very low GPA, however this allowed me to commit and I dont regret it one bit!
SAT and ACT are so pointless. I got a 20 on my ACT and got into my local university, now I’m making 180k with my masters degree. Employers, for the most part, dont care if you went to some prestigious school. As long as you have the degree and or the certifications. Those tests scores are nothing to base your life around, just get a good enough score to be accepted to an average university.

For everyone reading this, I just want you to know that at the end of the day, Harvard and many of these Ivy League schools accept based on their institutional needs, meaning that you can do everything right and be the perfect student, and still get rejected because you are simply not who they are not looking for. A few years into the workforce, where you went to college will no longer matter.
Looking back, I think it’s all stupid, the entrance process & the nonsense these schools put students through, & the price, let’s not talk about price. If I was smart when I was young, I’d have just went to a state school & been done with it. Why? Because it really doesn’t matter at the end of the day, I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, so I thought I was on top of the world, until I realized industry just doesn’t care, they need bodies.
