The Doobies are legit. I saw them all the way back in 1997 at an open air venue in Michigan and they blew my socks off, astounding. I was always a fan but live they were better than I could have believed. Just killed it.,
I saw the Doobies play with REO Speedwagon and Foghat. Still one of the best live shows I've seen! Oh, and yes, Vince is definitely a beast (so is Brad Paisley).
I saw the Eagles in 1975 with Linda Ronstadt, Charlie Daniels Band, Seals and Crofts and the Michael Stanley Band. Saw them again in 1976 with Fleetwood Mac and Loggins and Messina, Joe Walsh was with them though he wasn't officially a member of the band. Rocky Mountain Way was phenomenal. Finally I saw them in 1979 with Jimmy Buffett. Each show highlighted just how superb they really were, I didn't mind hearing the songs like they were lifted straight off the albums. They truly were incredible.
No Felder, no Glenn Frey. Not the Eagles. I saw the Eagles in Detroit at Tiger Stadium in '94 on the "Hell Freezes Over" tour. Awesome musicians. Awesome show.
I saw the Eagles in 2021 on their Hotel California tour. During the entire lockdown, that was the ONE concert I had my heart dead set on seeing when the concert scene reopened. They were fantastic! I'm in my 30s so I missed the classic Eagles period (the joke I tell people is that I'm the new kid in town), but I'm glad they're still playing. Making new memories and creating new fans. It's awesome.

Thank you. I'll 2nd that. I had the good fortune to see him with NGR after "On the Boulevard" was released. Small club venue in Chicago. Between sets I got to talk to him and let him know I appreciated his bass playing as well as his vocals. He still has the voice after all these years. Amazing.

Knowledge, personality, likability, humor, story telling, etc. You really do an excellent job, man. To the point where I feel like we're hanging out, which seems to me to be the pinnacle for hosting videos. Happy Thanksgiving to you. Oh, and that double-neck SG is BEAUTIFUL!! Jason
I first saw the Eagles in 1976 right after Hotel California first came out. My ticket was $8.00. Next time was in college on The Long Run tour in 1980, and I was actually working stage security for the show (my seat was actually ON the side of the stage). Next time was about 20 years ago. I'm a huge fan of Steuart Smith because as you alluded to, he gives a master class in guitar during the shows!!! He is phenomenal!! I got to see the Eagles again last year, and am going again now on this current tour after the first of the year. Steely Dan is supposed to open. Funny thing is that the Doobie Brothers have a concert here in Austin 4 days before the Eagles show. I saw the Doobies twice in the 70s, once in the 80s, and then most recently in 2019. They sound phenomenal live now. Anyway, thanks for posting your review. Interesting to hear someone's take on the show seeing them for the first time.
Nice video, bro. Lov3d your subdued humor. I saw them long ago on the second leg of their Hell freezes Over Tour, when Henley was behind the kit for most of the show, and Felder was still an 'Eagle' and it was easiest one of THE best live shows I've ever seen.
love the review and APPRECIATE your introduction to Liza Jane. Is there a version of that song that youd recommend for the solo you learned? id like to give it a try. or is there a video of you playing the solo? THANKS!
Both times I've seen Sevendust Clint Lowery rocks his SE signature as one of his main guitars. Proves you don't have to play the expensive pieces to put on a killer show.
I saw them in Seattle a couple years ago. Same thing, friend had an extra ticket. I'm not a huge Eagles fan but they sounded note for note perfect. It was almost the exact same experience you had (same lineup, I think) but they played Hotel California in its entirity, then they played all their hits just one after another. The one word that has lived with me when thinking back to it is "quality." Just high levels of quality.
Hey youngster, brilliant solo idea there for Rock and Roll. I’m 62, when we used to go to shows in the 70s it was to see the gtr players stretch and cut heads. Those days are loooooong gone. I’m glad I had my career when I did🤘🤘🤘
Eagles usually sound perfect every concert. That’s a trademark to be near perfect each and every time! Unlike a lot of old bands that just don’t really have it anymore. And the Doobies had 2 great versions with and without Michael McDonald. Both are great so having Tom Johnston and Michael in the same concert is fantastic. And Patrick Fitzsimmons and rest of their band are always great! Nice combo of bands!
Regarding guitar techs and numerous guitars in play at a concert: first time I saw Cheap Trick (1976), they were the lead band for KISS and Rick Nielson had over 20 guitars on stage to start the show. Looked very impressive to a kid like me. And.... he didn't play a single one - just played his one or two main guitars. The ones on stage were never touched. I thought it was hilarious.
That evangelist guy is out there all the time....even for Wild games. :D I got to see Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour in Little Rock in '95, then again after they fired Felder. That classic lineup was great. Don't get me wrong, the musicians on stage now are GREAT as well....but it feels like musicians for hire rather than a band.
In 1991 I saw the Doobie Brothers with Joe Walsh as the opening act. The Doobie Brothers were too perfect. It was like I was listening to the album and not a live show.
Back in high school, second year, I was 13 and they asked if any of us wanted to work the Eagles concert selling drinks to patrons. Of course, as a guitar player at the time struggling my way through Hotel California I jumped at the chance. Since then all I could remember of the concert was when all the band members took up a guitar for "Life in the Fast Lane" (it was 30 years ago!) but your review has brought it all back. Thank you for your amazing descriptive skills for their music and attitude on stage! Funnily enough, Sheryl Crow was the support act and she kicked butt. Never did finish learning all the parts to Hotel California, thinking of it reminds me of my first guitar that I actually owned (rather than renting from my school), a massive acoustic Ibanez where the strings were almost a centimetre (I guess half an inch? Sorry, Australian) off the fretboard. When I finally for an electric though, my fingers flew! Cheers for the review and your channel! And for bringing back those memories, it was an amazing concert and I think the first one I'd ever been to at that point...
And if you're wondering how I got to actually watch the show, they had us carrying a little tray with a strap around the back of our necks cigarette girl-style walking around the crowd taking orders. It was a weird set up.
Joe Walsh might be playing an se because that way when they do giveaway or when they release an official prs se, they can show that he plays it live, as a selling point
I saw those boys back when Hotel California had just come out… a ‘Day On the Green’ mega concert at the Oakland stadium (where the Raiders used to play). It was mind blowing good. Boz Scaggs sat in during encore too. Heart played that show too. Yeah… The 70s were awesome.
Thankfully I got to see The Eagles years ago. It was the Hell Freezes Over tour. It was awesome. They played the songs that you mentioned however they did play Get Over It. That too is one of my favorite Eagles songs. Seems very fitting for life these days. They put on a hell of a concert. Joe Walsh is a crazy man but plays a mean guitar. Thanks for sharing.
Rockin Down the Highway is iconic for sure, but as far as record sales, they had two #1 singles - Black Water and What a Fool Believes, with the latter winning a Grammy for Record of the Year. The album Minute By Minute also won a Grammy for Album of the Year.
@@macethorns1168Was front row in Pittsburgh. I felt that way from the entire band except for Joe Walsh. I'm surprised Henley didn't throw a stick at Joe. Joe had a few lost moments. The Eagles were perfect. Too perfect. To me, they acted like they couldn't wait to get off that stage. Spent a fortune for those tickets and left feeling like they were jerk - offs.
I saw the Dooble Brothers 3 times back in the 70's during the height of their popularity I was really into their music. I always thought their biggest hit may have been "oh black water" "listen to the music" certainly bought them notoriety "take me in your arms" was also a hit. My favorite Dooble Brothers album was "Stampede" Patrick Simmons song writing always appealed to me, Neal's Fandango and I cheat the hangman are really good songs. There are 2 short guitar instrumentals on the album that stand out to me not certain who played them it may have been Jeff "Skunk" Baxter? Michael McDonald of course took them in another direction.
We saw the same concert last Tuesday 4th June 2024 in Manchester England. Same show with the Doobies then the Eagles. Fully agree with your review great performances from both bands. And like you I was convinced that it was Don Felder on guitar next to Joe. I was then intrigued that he did not appear with the others on the stage at the end. Equally he is not featured on any of the publicity photos etc. Now being in England I was totally unaware of Stuert Smith. Never heard of him. It was only after a lot of research that I found that he had been with the band for many years and he was a great guitarist in his own right. I can fully appreciate that he is not part of The Eagles corporation. But great shame that he was not allowed back on for the curtain calls nor was there any mention of him throughout the concert. Anyway the mystery was finally solved for me and it was not Don on stage. Great video and review man. 🙋♂️👏👏🇬🇧
Henley was always extremely particular about doing it note-for-note onstage. Seen current-day vids of the band and they do deliver the goods, although I have to say I saw them 4-5 times in the Seventies, and they delivered the goods just that much better when Felder and Meisner were in the band.
Regarding the PRS SE that Joe played, he may have just bought it that day. When they were here in Calgary he came to the music store where I was working and he bought a Mexican Strat that he played that night at the show. He just really loves guitars and is a super cool dude. I think he might even just play them the once, sign them then give them away/auction them for charity or some such.
Great review man..ive been playing Eagle songs thru my whole career as a band member..and i agree with you,i like that kind of spontaniety when playing live, thats why i love Joe Walsh..
What an exceptional review! You are such a down to earth personable guy. I didn't expect to watch the whole thing, but it was kinda like hanging out with you - and I enjoyed it very much. 😄 I loved all of the details you went into and your descriptions of each section. I was surprised you didn't mention Tom Johnston's absence from the Doobie Brothers. I actually had to google why he wasn't there. He wrote and sang the majority of the hits back in the '70's. (I guess he has back problems.) Loved your snarky bit about Don Henley at 14:30 and a potential lawsuit. Funny, but true! LOL. Anyway... Thanks for making me smile this morning!! Oh... Love your double-neck Gibson too. I have a white one as well, but mine's an affordable knock-off! 😉 Have a great weekend!
The Eagles are my favourite band of all time. I've seen them twice in my life. Wish I could see them again on this tour, seeing as how this is supposed to be their last. Their live shows are fantastic. They have a way of sounding exactly like they do on their albums, yet at the same time they can add a different aspect that brings out the best in the crowd.
13:10 Wow, that is n awesome mashup, even for someone who has never heard the solo in its original context. Well done man! I'm going to watch that a few times at least.
I honestly had no idea The Eagles were in town. You missed a great concert 2 weeks ago at 1st Ave. I was hoping you were going to do a review of Mammoth. Wolfgang just killed it.
My buddy lives in north Dallas area. He said he regularly sees Henley walking around in the aisles of target. I’ve read that a lot of these musicians take cheap guitars in the road rather than their expensive ones for fear that their guitars will get beat up or even stolen. Slash takes his fake LP on the road.
Great review. Funny, too. If you've ever seen the Eagles documentary, I think it's pretty apparent there is no love lost between Henley and Felder. He and Frey referred to him coldly as Mr. Felder. Not a chance.
All these old bands still tour because their music is so great, I saw them all back in 70s. The greatest show I have ever seen still to this day is Springsteen and the E Street band in 1978. Nobody will ever compare to that 4 hours of passion and power.
I wish I could've seen Michael McDonald- he's got a great voice. Sounds like the concert was excellent based on your description. I wanted to watch the live stream but I picked up my phone a few hours after the concert ended. You were Already Gone at that point.😁
When I was younger, I thought bands should sound just like their albums. As I got older, that changed. Some songs lend themselves to that, and some songs don't. Sometimes it's cool to hear the band venture off the beaten path and really take advantage of what only a live setting can offer.
I couldn't imagine trying to be a player in the Eagles. The talent they've shown over the years is just so immense that it would be impossible to fill those shoes.
I just saw them live in Lexington and loved it. I love the songs, but I’m not the biggest Eagles fan. It was actually Vince Gill who I wanted to see live the most, and he did not disappoint. I especially loved the spot where Joe and Vince jammed out. The Eagles are famously not a jam band, but you can’t have that many guitar heroes and just play note for note.
Without "Glen Fry" and "Don Felder" you only get a Don Henley and Joe Walsh show doing a decent show though. The Doobie Brothers are crippled without Tom Johnston. But I'm sure both bands were really cool to see. Glad you had a great time. You're a cool guy. Thanks for the honest reviews. Take good care.. Peace.
Love this review! If they strike this, it shows even musical geniuses can shoot themselves in the foot. The dual leads are a staple for them live, though usually in Hotel California. And the electric guitar for the rhythm hook in Life's been Good is something they kept from doing it live that way long ago.
First off this is the first time I've watched anything pass 3 mins , so there you are. I saw the Doobies with Foreigner back in the in Melbourne Australia and they were awesome but they didn't have Michael with em. And I caught the Eagles with Don Felder as well. All I can say if you fellas get the opportunity to see great music please take as others across the pond don't as much.
I saw the Eagles 17 years ago. They sounded like the record for the first half of the show. It wasn't until Walsh played one of his songs in the second set that they loosened up and had fun.
Great review Mike. Ya know, it really sucks when you go to a concert, you pay A LOT of money for that ticket. You get settled in at your seat. You're trying to watch the show. And some asshole has got their phone up in the way! It ruins the whole situation for me, and a lot of folks? So thanks for saying-"don't do that at a concert!" People just need to turn off their phones and be in the moment! You don't need to record every second in life... "If you're not careful, you could miss something?" And that's life man? It's too short to waste... Happy Holidays bro!
Cant believe you left the auditorium, twice, during the show. I try to keep my eyes on the show throughout it just in case i miss something little never mind a whole song.
I saw Don Felder in concert about a decade ago and he put on an amazing show. The band sounded exactly like the Eagles. And the ticket only cost $35.

😉 Have a great weekend!
nice to hear about such a positive experience!!!
i counted 4 combo amps.. the rest were head/cab.. maybe i missed something.. the Vox, a bass combo, then the two down from them..
Mike…did they play “those shoes” or “in the city”??…two of my favs👍
They played "In the City." Magical, Walsh can still hit those high vocal notes.
Which night did you go, Friday the 17th or Saturday the 18th? I went to Tool as well, the audio was like twice as loud as the Eagles concert.
The 17th.
Great review. Sounds like a good time.
They blew my mind in St. Paul. Amazing.
Great review. Thanks for the details.
I have to watch this quickly before it's gone. The Eagles love to slap videos down. I can't tell you why, but they do.
13:10 Wow, that is n awesome mashup, even for someone who has never heard the solo in its original context. Well done man! I'm going to watch that a few times at least.
Great review, thanks. BTW SE PRSs really are great guitars.
I honestly had no idea The Eagles were in town. You missed a great concert 2 weeks ago at 1st Ave. I was hoping you were going to do a review of Mammoth. Wolfgang just killed it.
All my friends went to Mammoth and then I had to miss Liz Phair because it was on the same day as the Eagles concert. Crazy week.
You need to check out New Grass Revival where you’ll see where bassist John Cowan came from. He’s very famous in Bluegrass circles.
Man you are a great player bud what’s your tone setup with that SG great review, can’t stand Don Henley
thank you
art of guitar

What happened to Tom Johnston? Do you know why her wasn't there?
Back surgery
@@gregmize01 thank you
I wish I could've seen Michael McDonald- he's got a great voice. Sounds like the concert was excellent based on your description. I wanted to watch the live stream but I picked up my phone a few hours after the concert ended. You were Already Gone at that point.😁
🤣🤣🤣
He sound like he always "be" crying. Crying boy guy.
I love these brutally awesome videos,, give us one on the Tool show you went too pls… good job!
I did! 😉
I also got an Eagles/Henley strike on my channel. So I changed the words and tune: "Truva Kaplan Girls of Winter"
"those shoes." ;)
@@TheArtofGuitar”I can’t tell you why” these guys are so good.
Excellent review with plenty of insight! Thank you!
Great rundown
Excellent review. Thank you so much.
Cool vid. Show looked amazing. How are your ears doing- still ringing?
Thanks for the excellent review! Joe Walsh is my favorite Eagle and it's nice to see he's still tearing it up!
Good to see young ones practising up on the DAD JOKES - us oldies need someone to carry on the tradition..!!
Hope the Eagles can be generous and not take this down
Wish in one hand and shit in the other, see which one fills up first. Fuck Don's greedy ignorant ass.
Okay that teen wolf Michael McDonald had me actually lolling 😂😂😂
So where was Tom Johnston? Is he no longer playing?
Never say the Eagles but Don Felder opened for Styx and REO a few years ago and he played a great set.
“Like they’re about to sing We Are The World or something” 😂😂😂😂😂
Caught that subtle Mike Mcdonald impression by Nick Mullen
Joe plays whatever, he'll play a squire if it's handy. He doesn't risk anything valuable on stage.
I saw the Eagles 17 years ago. They sounded like the record for the first half of the show. It wasn't until Walsh played one of his songs in the second set that they loosened up and had fun.
Great review Mike. Ya know, it really sucks when you go to a concert,
you pay A LOT of money for that ticket. You get settled in at your seat.
You're trying to watch the show. And some asshole has got their phone
up in the way! It ruins the whole situation for me, and a lot of folks? So
thanks for saying-"don't do that at a concert!" People just need to turn
off their phones and be in the moment! You don't need to record every
second in life... "If you're not careful, you could miss something?" And
that's life man? It's too short to waste... Happy Holidays bro!
Tom Johnston? Where was he?
Tommy J is still recuperating from back surgery Mark
Cant believe you left the auditorium, twice, during the show. I try to keep my eyes on the show throughout it just in case i miss something little never mind a whole song.
An old lady bladder I guess.
