Hey do you restore old Coca Cola vending machines form the 40s
What an amazing transformation. Brilliant video - no irritating music, no narration, just craftsmanship.
Thank you!
Rescue & Restore Hi! What have "my mechanics", "TysyTube Restoration" & "DiesInEveryMovies Customs" to do with you?
I also notice how gentle and careful he is around the parts he restores; no real surprise the things he works on look like a million freakin' bucks when he's done!
M&Ms? C'mon; use gumballs. ;-)
Exactly, just the work, nothing else, you enjoy the video even more
That old and still had the key.... That's the amazing part.
I liked how he even polished up the key.
For realtho
😞 But no candy ...
I think there was a standard key that fit all the Northwestern machines. If you have one, you’re good to go.
No pins when he put back in the lock.
Just imagine: a little boy/girl decades ago hanging in the neighborhood growing up visiting a little shop everyday that they love to visit and saying hi to the shop owner to brighten his day and grab a handful of candy... and now decades later, the machine is being restored to its former glory and reviving a small piece of history. Thats my favorite part of these videos is imagining the story and history behind the littlest trinket.
Absolutely, just think of how many times that knob has turned by little hands and brought priceless smiles...beautiful job on the restoration.
Basically my childhood
@Aly Abobakr wher are your parents
Beautiful words so true
1960. It was probably a penny!😂
That’s a lot of m&ms for $0.05... gonna go broke with this business model for sure
I guess back in the day, 5 cents would get you that much.
Anybody old enough to remember a nice chunk of [penny] candy? Today what use to be a penny in the 60s and 70s, cost you a dime, maybe [even] a quarter today ... and the portions are way smaller.
That was my exact thought as soon as I saw all those delicious candy coated milk chocolate morsels fall into his hand.
They're going to have to fill it with uncooked rice to make a profit.
I had the same thought. 😂😂😂😂😂
I saw a part in the machine that looked like a shutter to regulate the amount vended. Maybe he left it wide open?
Back when the machines would give you a GENEROUS handful 😊
JBarber3d AND for a nickel
I thought it was only one :X
Now it’s like 2 M&Ms for like $2.
And now its three quarters for five m&m
Got to respect when someone surprises you with a generous handful.
You know this dude has the coolest man cave ever
Ya He Dose
Imagine being his friends
I know
Why is your lovely comment so underrated? I wonder.
Wtf is a man cave
Man, I miss owning little candy vending machines like this! I used to have a whole fleet of them when I was a teenager. Maybe I'll get more one day.
Dude I follow a LOT of restoration channels and yours is already one of the best, even after three videos. Please never change your format, you have it down. This should be the gold standard for resto vids
Thank you!
I agree, from the tools to the powder coat, this is THE restore channel to watch. Restoration done right.
Yes. Very good! You should also check out the channel called "my mechanics" He's great too. Very similar presentation. The guy there fabricates his own parts. If he needs a special screw, or whatever, he just makes it.
I agree as well. No annoying music or talking too much. Just good old fashioned restore therapy
@@correywebb :-)
Man, I have no head for all the mechanics. Which part goes where and what it does, all of that. Seeing you disassemble these items and put them back together is just as magical as the actual restoration.
Same principle as replacing an engine in an automobile, film the disassembly and you have a perfect guide to reassemble.
@@tennwalt Yea, but I'm a special kind of hopeless. Even with a video of myself, I'd still have trouble XD That's even assuming I could figure out how to disassemble it in the first place.
@@catswillruletheworld start small and build your way up. I still can’t fold Origami to save my life but can take apart a car no problem. I’d say start with something small and simple like an old TV that you can pick up for like 20 bucks.
Beautiful work. The only thing I wish you'd have done differently is repainted it the original yellow, which is fairly unique (at least nowadays). The red just makes it look so generic.
I thought so too. The original yellow would have been awesome.
I saw and have painted them in several colors. Red, yellow and a blue hammered metallic look were the most common here in the Midwest. A few green hammered metallic look, but they were sort of rare. For a collector they had me do one that was chrome plated on outside shell. Personally I didn't like the look. But they had the money so I did what they wanted.
He uses powder coating. Kinda expensive to have a specific yellow, but i get your point.
aserta if he’s restoring all this and has all these machines I’m sure buying a specific powder paint wouldn’t be an issue
I'm late to the party but I have a yellow gumball machine I bought at goodwill years ago and I was originally going to repaint it red for the iconic look. I'm so happy I never did. It end up being so much more unique and I have seen plenty of other red one turn up later on
I would like some of these. I’d open up a little pastel-themed cafe/bakery and have these in all pastel shades, with an arcade cabinet next to them (also in pastel colors), and it’d be the only bakery where the candy vending machines are actually worth buying from. It’d be beautiful.
That idea sounds amazing, we need more fun cafes with unique themes
🤔Hmm...I like that.

Anybody else wonder where he got those simulated diamond plate stickers for the front of the machine? Or how about those components he replaced?
Those are just reflective stickers for the back of trucks. Available Auto parts stores that sell truck parts
I'm sure the company is still in business and that's where he got the parts and sticker
New tech. 3D printing or something idk.

I was mesmerised! Amazing work. It's so nice to see old things being restored instead of thrown out.
you should have another channel where you just sandblast things at regular speed. bet that would be popular
I would subscribe to that in a heartbeat

Euge Federico * laughs inside🤣
I thought that myself... love watching the sandblasting.
I would watch.
That powder coat machine is next level cool. It gives a professional finish. Plus you are the only guy I've watched that can actually film the sandblasting process properly. Keep up the good work.
Professor Aquaria that’s so true! All of the other blasting cabinet cams are completely clouded up but this one turns out completely clear

Holy crap! what happend to this thing? Did you recover it from the Titanic?
Maybe he did 👁️〰️👁️
I wonder this about most of his restorations. They look like he sources them from Pripyat 😳 We have several tin toys from the 60s or older, and usually only rubber tires have degraded and some plastics have discolored.
I like Titanic
@@VanillaLibrarian If it wasn't for the radiation danger, that would be *incredible* to see someone restore something from Pripyat!
That would be so cool!
That’s a lot of m&m’s for a nickel!
I remember when small gum balls were a penny, and these nickel machines gave you the “jawbreaker” size.
What a great job you did restoring this machine!
Thanks, inflation!
Love this video. I was born and raised in Morris, IL. and have two of these that a friend, who worked at Northwestern, made custom for me. One is a Chicago Blackhawks and the other is a Los Angeles Lakers!
Anyone else wondering where he gets all those antiques
Likely antique stores, friends, subscribers, patrons on patreon, ebay, and other sites.
but another question is: what does He do with them after he masterfully restores them?
@@diamond_dude1011 keep or sell of send back to the original owners?
From your grandma. Burn. Jk. There’s places with piles and piles of antiques. Scattered everywhere. Just gotta go look for em.
@@diamond_dude1011 He probably keeps/donates the ones he finds and probably gives back the ones he got from subscribers
You can purchase food grade machine oil. (Probably on Amazon) That canola oil will go rancid, and can promote bacterial growth. Nice to see a restoration with powder coating instead of just spray paint!
I know this video is 2 weeks old now but just wanted to say white mineral oil from the pharmacy is an OK food grade lubricating oil. Easy to get and wont hurt to eat a little.
Google "Cooking oil coating prevents bacteria from growing on food processing equipment".
@@clray123 Cooking oil is a horrible lubricant for mechanical lubrication. It gums up, especially on rotating parts. Once the solvents evaporate it becomes a sticky mess. It may prevent bacterial growth, but I'm not sure there are too many problems with bacteria issues in bulk M&Ms. Having worked on industrial food processing equipment for years has taught me that cooking spray as a machine lube causes way more problems than it solves. There are far better food safe options to keep this machine in top shape.
@@jenslundy just curious what machines have you been working on?
@@jenslundy I agree, had a bb gun years back that had been lubricated with canola oil. After awhile the oil gummed up and it was basically impossible to use.
Absolutely love your channel, please do NOT change the format!!!
aw man.... these videos are so calming to watch...plus the joy it must be to have your workshop and all those tools to play with..... joy!

@@Samwiseangie

Maybe bought it as 3D printed plastics but those metal parts are not from the originals
You can indeed get all the parts for these. People make a living off of these machines, and it makes sense they’d stay in service a long time. Mind you, you’d be replacing the 5¢ mechanism for a 25¢ PDQ.
@@jacksons1010 do you know where? (I'm looking for some old vending machine parts)
@@sierraroseprzybyla3333 Amazon, eBay, D&S Vending...just Google for vending machine parts. If you know the manufacturer try them directly, as many are still in business or there is a vendor specializing in those parts. This video shows a Northwestern - you'll find parts at moneymachines . com
I still find it astonishing that you can make these dilapidated old items look brand new! This old coin operated vending machine is one of the best restorations I've seen so far!
Beautiful. And I love how colorful it turned out with the candy.
Another thing I love about this channel is that the equipment he uses may be loud when he is actually operating them in person, but it comes out making little sound on here.
This isn't just restoration, it's a whole ASMR as well
I almost wanted to cry seeing that old candy machine. I remember when grocery stores (especially A&P, Big Star, Winn Dixie, etc) and K-Mart used to have those candy machines lined up in the front of the store near the registers. On the way out, I spent my change to buy gumballs and tart candies. I wish we could go back to the 70's and 80's. Times were so much simpler and normal back then.
I love things from the 70's and 80's!~

Man I love you show your meticulous your attention to detail keep up the good work
Beautiful! I watch a lot of these restoration videos and yours is the only one I see using powder coating instead of painting. Please keep up the good work. I just love this!
I’m no expert, but powder coating is just what it sounds like. It’s a powder coating that hardens when baked. It’s much more durable than painting, but it’s also much more expensive to do, which is why painting is more common. Not everyone has access to the powder coating tools, but anyone can grab some paint and get to work.
I've never seen that powder painting process, how cool!

So satisfying to watch old things get new life. You are a very talented as resourceful- great at picking and at finding spare parts! Keep up the great work.
When I was a child there was one of those stores that had everything, back when Mom and Pop businesses ruled the USA. At the storefront there was a bank of these vending machines and my brother and I really wanted some of what they had. We got some change from mom as she waited to pay the clerk and went for what we wanted but got a shocking surprise. The dime we used opened the floodgate and stuff just poured out! We told the clerk then asked if we could have two small bags and permission to plunder. I remember thinking this was so fantastic, little bubbles with glittering rings and small toy cars. Believe it or not, many of the things were made of metal!
I could watch these video's all day! Wonderful job!!
