This is exactly what I needed to know. This will be my first DA game. I've been told so many times I should play DA because of how much of a Mass Effect fan boy I am.
One correction on the factions we can be a part of: only the Shadow Dragons are explicitly based in Tevinter. All the others hail from different nations. Mournwatch are Nevarran, Lords of Forune are from Rivain, and the Veil Jumpers… probably don’t really hail from any particular nation. But they have good number of elves in their ranks, so they’re definitely not friendly with Tevinter.
I'm stuck on Dragon Age Awakening only cause I have no time to play. 🥲 I'm sooo looking forward to DAII though!! Glad someone got that Canadian joke lmao it took me a few takes to say it "properly." 😂
i heard the words "Risk reward CHARGE attacks" you just single handedly sold me on the game. (pretty sure you can also guess my preferred mass effect class too)
This honestly looks like a massive step backwards to me from inquisition. They took away the open world, party control and most party skills, and turned it into a hack and slash game. This feels like a dragon age 2 situation all over again and its breaking my heart. I don't understand why they have such a hard time getting these games right. Origins had a great story but the combat was a little lackluster, DA2 had great combat but the story and world were lackluster, and inquisition came close to nailing all 3 its only issue was the open world was a little uninspired at times. All they had to do was make an inquisition style game again and tweak the open world with less collectibles. It's so obvious what the fans want and they just refuse to listen, I just don't understand it at all. It's like developers purposefully do the exact opposite of what fans want and then cry whenever people point out that the game looks mediocre. Don't get me wrong the combat looks solid in veilguard, but its just not dragon age anymore, its closer to a game like devil may cry now in my opinion. To me it seems like they are just trying to find a way to turn a quick profit instead of giving fans what they want out of a dragon age game. Bioware is finished unfortunately if this fails, and from the looks of veilguard I'm guessing its going to be mainly 6s and 7s when it comes to review scores.
Fair criticisms. I'm thinking more along the lines of: if they changed the combat away from Inquisition after it won Game of The Year, they probably had a reason to do so. You can never know what a studio's goal is when they change a large gameplay mechanic like combat away from what was successful (unless they tell us), but the way I'm seeing it is that it might be an attempt to make the game more accessible to a wider audience. Whether that's a directive from EA trying to get more sales or BioWare themselves, who knows?
I am so interested in the companion romance and how they can romance others outwith us (I hope they do better than Dorian and Bull and Isabela and Fenris...I hated how those ones played out). That is one thing I loved about Zevran (romancing him right now in origins...well, trying, just picked him up), he openly talks to the Warden about being bisexual, talks about previous partners, not in great detail but, still. He even asks the Warden's consent to even keep flirting if they are uncomfortable with his sexuality. The more I learn about Veilguard, the more excited I am becoming!
They took so much away from the DA we knew, it’s hard to be optimistic. Different combat system with only three skill slots, cartoonish characters, only two followers and Maker knows what else. And as for romancing anyone it’s a major letdown imo. I know I won’t be wasting my time. Especially after …Leliana, Morrigan, Alistair, Dorian.
I guess coming from a Mass Effect background you're less interested in party control and being able to switch from one party member to the other for direct control. I still haven't seen confirmation or denial, but if switching party member control is not the same as DA:O, DA2 and DAI it will be a huge minus for me. I don't want to be only limited to issuing commands to party members while on pause.
The tall dwarf thing has me reeling, but I am also now super curious about what kind of lore and lines a Qunari Warden will have in the game. Will they be the Worf of Dragon Age, the first of their kind to serve in the faction? Does the calling effect them differently? Does the joining even work on them?
I said it before the Reveal and i´m going to say it again. I´m cautiosly Optimistic so far, currently playing DAI and really enjoying it. Although i find it a bit too complex at some points tbh.
Unfortunately this doesn't tell much about next ME, as this is still running on Frostbite. But it also means that Veilguard should be easily modded for longetivity. Combat in demo itself looks a bit outdated but I don't mean it's bad, it's not the end product and there was just this one spec showcased.
I never pass origins or DA2, so I'm trying to pass them before this game comes out. I just hope there are a lot of dialog choices. Everything that I've been hearing from your vids sounds like it is.
I hope anatomy comes into play in spicy scenes it was very distracting the way bg3 did it. I just hope they either go all in and have separate scenes for pps or just have lovey dovey after scenes with implications.
Thank you for the timestamps, it’s been hard trying to avoid spoilers. 🫠 I’m also new to DA starting out with Inquisition (almost done!), and I’m excited for my first playthrough Inquisitor (and the consequences of my (dumb?) decisions) to play a part in the new game. The Veilguard looks great and also seems a great indicator of how incredible the next ME is going to be!
@@anna-friedavandykif anyone. Morrigan is literally the only character in a Bioware game I've romanced and I honestly never thought about that until just then.
The character creator sounds like a stand-alone game. Looking forward to seeing people's masterpieces.

Please please play the other games first. I have been playing since 2009 and some gold comes from the first few..
Awesome, welcome to the new DA fanclub 🫡
The entire previous series on DA is available for $10 usd on steam right now and you'll have enough time to beat them before Veilguard comes out
You should make more of these type of videos. I liked the codex.
It was fun to make! :)
The tarot style from dai is one od the best things about the series imo! Having the artstyle reflect that gives me some hope ☺️🤞
Unpopular opinion: I’m excited for this game
I'm beyond excited for this game. I need it now!! 😤
Inquisitor and Solas will serve the collective function of the Guardian from BG3 it seems.

Frostbite is fine it does its Job. UE5 is still very heavy on the Hardware Site, so imo thats the save and right Decision.

Only three skills in combat??? 😢
I hear there are 9 and you can switch with a command.
@@TheDream6842 they already talked about it, 3 per character so 9 total and no switching during combat
A little low for sure. I hope there's presets available like in ME: Andromeda so we're not constantly switching between different builds.
This game seems so complex I already feel lost. I'll definitely choose the no dying option. 😅
It seems very beginner-friendly. Love that they added a no dying option for more accessibility.
