    I always had a love for Sonic Spinball, mainly due to the premise of it alone. It's an adventure game and a pinball rolled into one which is pretty unusual sounding but manages to work pretty well. The Pokemon Pinball game is also quite cool mainly because of the collecting aspect behind it, just wish they had a lot more variety to the stages themselves since it can get tiring seeing the same thing for such a long time while you fill the Pokedex up.

    I will recommend two games, Fantastic Pinball Kyuutenkai for Saturn, an amazing video-pinball I discovered thanks to Jimmy Hapa and his awesome import hidden gems channel, and Battle Pinball for SNES, a super charismatic game with Gundam, Ultraman, Kamen Rider... the music isn't great, but the game is pretty fun.
    Video pinball genre deserves more love. Thanks for this episode! I hope to see a part 2.

    FWIW: The original Pokémon Pinball is a far better game than the Ruby/Sapphire sequel. The flippers are tight, the minigames are fun and the action is fun on both boards. Even the Rumble Pak, gimmicky as it is, aids the experience in making the GameBoy feel like a mobile pinball machine. Also, the sound isn't an absolute bore/good tracks recycled from Ruby/Sapphire, but I digress. Give it a shot if you liked the sequel.

      I think they prefer the less realistic types, which the Amiga games never really had; however, Dave did cover Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Illusions on the Amiga CD32 episode and enjoyed them.

    I'm glad you covered Pokémon Pinball although I prefer the original GBC game. I think by impossible angles in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire you mean the one with Nuzleaf (16:59) on top. The trick is to activate Makuhita (the boxer on the right side) by hitting a Linoone (the Pokémon below it that sticks its head out) and then once your ball is in front of the Makuhita you hit your flipper button in order to make Makuhita punch the ball granting you the way to the Nuzleaf. Once you've hit Nuzleaf couple of times it falls and makes a bridge that you can cross to make your way to the orb on the other side. I don't remember what happens when you get it (might be a ball upgrade?) but I think it isn't worth all the trouble.

    Check out Rollers of the Realm. It's a video pinball/RPG on various systems. You control various pinballs that are classes like knight, thief, healer etc. Each class plays and controls differently (the knight ball is heavier and slower but can knock down barriers for example). You can collect gold to buy upgrades and weapons. Each stage is a unique board that has hidden areas, enemies to defeat, and obstacles to get around.

    After 18 months of Game Sack I finally realized what I like about your videos - they are based on impressions from little details, for instance the part where Dave is talking about how likes the video sequence where the lady wishes him good luck. I mean, that's totally irrelevant from the journalistic point of view! And in 2005 FMVs had been considered a bad thing for almost a decade. But when you listen to the review, you can't help but feel joy!

    I fell in love with a game on the Super Nintendo called "Super Pinball: Behind the Mask". It's this mysterious and cool game where it feels like the pinball machines have personalities, and the game has great atmospheric music that adds to that. Anyways, I was hoping you guys would talk about it until The Necronomicon appeared. I thought "this looks familiar" and with a little research, sure enough both Necronomicon and Behind the Mask were made by the same developer. Thanks for showing it to me, Game Sack and I hope you cover Behind the Mask in another video.

    For Sony and Nintendo systems there's the Zen Pinball series which has some of the same tables as Pinball FX.

  • @seanmyster6

    If you want more video pinball games to talk about, I've got a couple of suggestions right here:
    Zen Pinball series
    Kirby's Pinball Land (I'm honestly surprised that you guys didn't talk about it in this episode) EDIT: As it turns out, they already talked about it in the Game Boy episode
    Mario Pinball Land
    Pinball Of The Dead (yes, it is based on House Of The Dead) EDIT: Someone told me Game Sack already talked about this one, too, but I only remember MetalJesusRocks' review
    Metroid Pinball
    Rock 'n' Ball
    Pinball Arcade

    If you want a newer pinball game, I would suggest giving Rollers of the Realm a try. It has a bit of story and you get different characters with their own unique abilities (like making the ball stronger to break barriers). I have it on my Vita. Pretty fun.

  • @RarefoilB
    @RarefoilB 8 лет назад +15

    Personally, I highly enjoy Sonic's Spinball's OST. I find it rocking, atmospheric, and I can get past the less-than-optimal use of the Genesis' sound chip. I even like the options menu song. I view all that metallic grind as a electric guitar. You should check out the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom album for some of the songs played with actual instruments; it sounds great.
    But hey, just telling you my own opinion.

    • @gozinta82
      @gozinta82 8 лет назад

      +RarefoilB I can agree to a certain extent. It might be because I only recently was able to pick up a sega genesis. Have always wanted to get that game since playing it at best buy when they had the genesis and snes kiosks. It gets kinda rough at parts but I definitely still enjoy it :)

    You guys don't do computers, but if you did... Pinball Dreams and Fantasies on the Amiga really belong in a video like this.

    If you haven't already you should play Psycho Pinball on the Megadrive/Genesis (PAL only). Amazing graphics, the main Psycho table links in to the other tables, there are little mini games that play like a platform game and the music is amazing! (hence why I did a cover of it on my channel, sorry for the shameless plug...)

    • @Astfgl
      @Astfgl 8 лет назад

      Yeah, great game. Despite being a PAL exclusive, Psycho Pinball is a region free game and it plays on a US Genesis. It does have some slowdown when running in 60 Hz though.

    • @GameSack
      @GameSack  8 лет назад

      I would think that the game runs too fast since it's likely optimized for 50Hz.

    • @Astfgl
      @Astfgl 8 лет назад

      +Game Sack Not necessarily. The game plays well enough at 60 Hz, without the sensation of being too fast. There's also an option in the menu to adjust the game speed in case you do think it's too fast. The only real downside to playing in 60 Hz is the occasional slowdown, which might also be the reason why the game was never released in the US.

    • @GameSack
      @GameSack  8 лет назад

      Astfgl
      They could have optimized it for 60Hz which would have eliminated the slowdown.

    • @RetroGeet

    Pinball sims/games are some of my favorites to play, largely because I spent so much time in arcades as a youngster. I tend to lean more towards traditional simulations (Pinball Arcade, Zen Pinball, Pro Pinball) because they so closely mirror my original experiences. Rollerball (NES), Power Rangers ZEO Pinball (PlayStation), and RARE's conversions of Pinbot and High Speed for the NES also fantastic.

    One pinball game I HIGHLY recommend is Extreme Pinball for PC and PlayStation. Four tables, memorable tunes, and you can change the score display color to your liking! This game was a decent chunk of my childhood

    Thanks for the love, this genre is so overlooked! And yes, I was wondering where the heck was Alien/Devil's Crush?! Great to see Flipnic, Time Cruise, and Necronomicon (!!!). For part 2 (or 3) I'll suggest Last Gladiators (Saturn), Metroid Prime Pinball (DS), and Pure Pinball (XBox).

    I had Pinball Quest on the NES as a kid. There's three ordinary boards, then there's "RPG Mode" where you're trying to rescue a kidnapped princess. You collect money and buy better flippers and stoppers from shops. It's interesting and pretty decent.

    The Pinball Fantasy and Pinball Dreams games were awesome. I originally played them on the Amiga, but I'm sure they were released on Megadrive and SNES as well.

      You are right on both point ... they were absolutely awesome on the Amiga and there were SNES releases of em. Glad to see someone suggested them too. Don't love, but I even liked the Epic Pinball CD (got it for 1.99 with 12 (?) Tables)

    In case Dave is curious to know (despite him not being a part of Game Sack anymore), there are a few reasons why Sonic is the main character in "Sonic's Pinball Party":
    1. He is Sega's mascot, just like with Mario being the mascot for Nintendo.
    2. NiGHTs and Samba De Amigo are Sega franchises that were created by Sonic Team.
    3. Sonic is a character who has been affiliated with pinball since the first game on the Sega Genesis.

    Being a big Video Pinball fan myself, I just loved this episode guys. A few titles that passed my mind and that deserved to be mentioned are
    Revenge of the Gator pinball (GB) and Fantastic Pinball Kyutenkai (Saturn), Battle Pinball (Super Famicom), Pinball Quest (Nes), Rollerball (NES) and Odama (N64)
    My all-time favorite game in this genre is Pinball Dreams but please stay away from all the choppy console ports and play the Amiga version (If you didn't already). The Steel Wheels table has a lot of emotional value for me, as I played it night after night agains my dad when I was a kid.
    Anyways: keep up the good work!

    Three games that you definitely need to check out are Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies and Slam Tilt on the Amiga systems!
    These are quite possibly some of the best and most realistic pinball games in terms of physics that you are likely to play on older systems. The developers also went on to become DICE who ended up creating the Battlefield series and Mirror's Edge!

Psycho Pinball for Mega Drive must be my most loved 16-Bit pinball game. True Pinball on PlayStation blew me away when I saw it for the first time. The audio on the Vikings table is amazing.

    I never thought I would ever be so into this genre, I only had nes pinball and sonic spin all growing up...but after getting aliens crush and dragons fury, I can play these for hours. I also just played through the Genesis Develish, and absolutely adores the inventive use of breakout style gameplay mixed with cool levels and bosses
