It seems like, at the end of the day, the most important thing to have access to is a good ledge, a good flatbar, and flatground. But, having a huge skatepark with a wide variety of different obstacles is so good for your development overall and can help you learn faster. It's part of why cali skaters end up being so good.
Having a good skatepark definitely helps you progress faster, wish Dallas proper had a nicer park. Whenever I go to a nice skatepark, everything just feels easier to commit when trying new tricks. That said, I noticed the people that progressed the most always had more solid fundamentals (able to ollie high, can do 50-50s on all obstacles, does basic tricks going fast)
Jamie Griffin is my goat (after Rodney). is skateboarding really only about skating ledges/rails/etc? i personally like flatground the most. but that's maybe because i know damn well it's too late for me to turn pro, so i just do what i enjoy and i enjoy not fearing for my life every time i go skate lol
I have no skatepark near me. I skate the downtown area which has some really cool low impact stuff like waxed curbs/ledges and manual pads. It's a cool set up I just wish there was a flat bar close by.
I can confirm because I fucking suck after ten years of skating every single day in the Ohio corn fields with no skateparks. I definitely watched all my friends progress passed me going to skateparks all the time while I spent all my time skating flat in my garage for years… im limited to what I can do no grinds no rails no ledges no quarters It’s really no fun for us with no parks
Hell ye you can! I was able to become flow for primitive in middld school going into highschool by just learning tricks at local skate spots you dint need a skatepark to learn tricks of course I would go to skateparks when I had the chance but it did not happen often
Would be sick to see you making these videos with other skaters, id be interested to see them answer the same questions you do. One guy in mind is gifted hater, he likes doing hot takes🔥😂
I learnt to hardflip become drop in, but still love to do it anyways. Today, i am still unable to rock to fakie or boardslide a rail but i am doing big heels down things. i just do not like to go to skatepark
I think whoever puts in more work is whoever is going to be better honestly. If you have all the tools to be great but you don’t use them. How good are you really gonna be? A kid who only skates street but skates every single day everywhere and always has his board and practices new things, will be better than the kid who skates a park once every two weeks.
jamie griffin is quite possibly the worst example of a fundamentally sound skateboarder though. He has freakish flat ground at can transfer some of that to medium stair sets/drops but lets be real here...

I almost find i commit more than at the local park cuz I won't be back for a while and if I'm gonna get hurt may as well do it somewhere new lmao
Fax, thats why most of the pro skaters are in the us cuz yall have those big ass parks and perfect spots
The newest videos on both of your channels have been more entertaining than ever lately! Can't wait for the upcoming stuff 😍
I love the tease for big things coming. It's always fun when you move onto a new project or journey! I'm here for the ride :)
loving the jazz tunes

Your video format is the perfect way to watch a video after a hard skate session, nothing better to lay down and watch while your muscles ache 😂

at my place, we just learn flatground trick and do it down or up stair or curb, we don't know to to grind or boardslide at all :D

I don’t have a skatepark near me, and the streets in Quebec are basically shit so I can only skate in a schoolyard and practice flat ground..
I don’t have a local skatepark here it’s so boring I always have to skate street
Hey John can u maybe make a video sometimes about injuries and how u dealt with them and recovering ? :) i believe thats a good topic
Love your vids
Decades of talent says yes.
What would be a list of fundamentals?
Rodney with just a bit of concrete

I noticed recently that I’m a lot more energized and go harder when I skate with other people too. Great video, John!
A Mr. Beast of skateboarding would be awesome. Some dude who just went around blessing people with skate product, money, and sponsorships
Not to nitpick here but wouldn't it be a fakie heel to backside fakie 50?
Anyone know which park this is in the DFW area?
Rodney Mullen invented most of the tricks we still do and he skated a slab of concrete! Skateparks definitely help you progress though, not question
Jamie Griffin. Nuff said.

$500?! We found wood.We made boxes and ramps all day! Work with what you got! If someone's dad can help, even better
I used to skate that park all the time when it first opened, its a good beginners park
I learnt to hardflip become drop in, but still love to do it anyways. Today, i am still unable to rock to fakie or boardslide a rail but i am doing big heels down things. i just do not like to go to skatepark

You hear that all you, “I wOuld Be sO HApPy if I HaD tHaT skAtePrk iN my TowN” people. You can still be happy skating in a shed. STOP COMPLAINING!
A skatepark is a lot better than a shed.
No. You can find success in a shed and still be happy. JH said so
