if you dont know what to draw: Stand up, turn around 3 times, and the first thing you catch your eyes on, draw that and then make it into a theme, for example, if my eyes land on a lamp, I would draw that, and then add butterflies or moths flying around it, so the the theme is bugs. I guess, I don't know if that makes sense.

Just draw whatever feels right and fun then it will get you further and you'll start to learn more. I started with stick figures too. I've always been drawing and learning since I was a kid. Drawing is the best part of my life so I won't never get bored of it. ^^
Im a perfectionist when it comes to my art. And it does make it harder when it comes to sketching. But one thing that helps me relax is something my dad (an artist as well) told me. He said "Sometimes there is perfection within imperfection. Not everything has to be perfect to look good." And it helps me relax. Cuz even if a line or a circle isn't perfect, it doesn't mean that it looks horrible. The fact that it's not perfect can even make it stand out and look better. Imperfection gives things like a finished piece or a sketch character. It shows that it's...human made.
Wow I really never thought of it that way, I have been think about this for 20 min straight. You have changed my life cuz I am also a real perfectionist when it comes to art and I usually can’t stand a drawing I don’t like in my sketchbook and usually throw them so thank you!
U know it doesn't counts when you say "I am a perfectionist when it comes to my art",really...your technically thinking your better than others, and please don't reply 'cause then a huuuuge conversatiob comes up and it gonna take a fucking eternity
Flash Gordon I meant perfectionist when like it comes to my sketchbook like I only used to like the drawing if I tried my best and complete drawings, but like when I used to sketch I would throw them, so sorry if you took that offensively, you misunderstood me.. 😅
That little tip about just taking a page and going nuts on it was actually kinda useful for me. I'm usually a perfectionist when it comes to my sketching, but I decided to just loosen up, and in doing so, I actually ended up with doodling a really cool design for a character that I had been struggling to come up with a unique looking design for.
Elite0087 Same! I've also seen a video about using your sketchbook for multiple purposes, it also really helped me. I now write on my sketchbook, take notes and stick photo references or other drawings and I feel free!
Thanks for the "purposefully ruin your first page" advise, I've had a sketchbook for years that I've simply never drawn anything in because I didn't want to draw in it before I was confident that whatever I'd draw in it would look good XD
Best advice I once heard: "no one tells you to start at the first page, just pick a page you want" this helped me a lot when starting in a new sketch book since I always put the date on the drawing I don't need to have it in order anyway.
I got kicked out of my final art class three weeks before graduation and haven’t touched my sketchbook since May out of fear. My paintings and sketches weren’t good enough, and my advisor went so far as to scribble on them in blue and yellow oil pastel. I’ve had this vid in my watch later for a while and I’ve finally decided to watch. I’d forgotten how fun sketching was and this has made me return to it, hopefully practice will make progress and I’ll be in next year’s exhibit. Thank you, Jazza, for always being so inspiring
HylianPopsicle ... Art should never be criticized in that way! It's awful you were made to feel like that! Art comes from the Soul & should always be nurtured! I hope you are now able to create as the mood takes you! Remember, it's about how it makes you feel not about being the best at it!
I'm so sorry you dealt with that. My drawing 1 teacher had a teacher when he was in school that made him cry and almost give up. But his oil paintings now are incredibly. My teacher had an amazing skill with water and reflections and landscape scenes. He always encouraged us in class to believe that drawing is like learning to drive. It's a skill you can develop through time and energy and preseverence
Wow, that's horrible. I don't know why some art teachers think it's okay to basically emotionally abuse their students. I had a painting class in college and I didn't have much experience with painting so I was always being criticized for my art. Besides, I'm not sure it's fair to grade art because it's so subjective. Just look at what is considered modern art.
for beginner artists: if a sketchbook seems too daunting, it’s ok, it’s a lot of pages to fill out and there’s so many different types of books. You can just put paper in a folder or binder (i like binders more), you can use those clear folders for your favorite pieces. It helps you feel like you don’t have to finish a book, and you can take out drawings or put them in anytime.
When I sketch most of the time I only use a pencil, no eraser. Not having an eraser around makes me feel like I don’t HAVE to get everything perfect and I can just enjoy sketching without having to worry about that. It may sound stupid, but that’s just something I like to do.
Thanks this actually helped a ton. Especially the relaxing part I've always been a perfectionist when it comes to drawing and it kept me from doing it or enjoying it. So just being told to relax and accept the imperfections really helped me.

I feel very troubled when I want to draw, I just can’t draw for some reason. I love to draw but it feels very stressful whenever I start a new drawing so I end up without drawing anything. This vid helped me to approach drawing/ sketching in a different way, thank you.
I've been a perfectionist for a while now, and I'm trying to break out of that mentality because even though it worked when I was younger, and had lower standards and less knowledge of anatomy and what I wanted my style to look like. I always felt like I was improving, for years in fact. But now I've been kind of stuck, and because of my perfectionist mentality, it has discouraged me from drawing anything, and anything I draw I'm never happy with. My anatomy is stiff, I can't draw hands for the life of me, and dynamic poses are like a foreign language. While I now I have improved, for a while it was actually at a really high rate, with almost every drawing looking better than the last. I've been stuck for a while now. This video has inspired me to start working on these things instead of treating my sketch books like the place I draw my finest pieces. To start playing around and using them to help me practice and what not. I've never really placed myself in that "brainstorming" mentality and I'd really like to try it. Thanks, Jazza! : ) (Please like this, I'd really like Jazza to see this.) (EDIT: 400 LIKES HOLY CRAP!)
Mattie Rask you probably have a plan, but something that's helped me get over my perfectionism is to finish one drawing everyday. If I don't like it or it's not turning out how I'd hoped, I learn things or come up with great ideas that will help me in future projects.
I have one and it works really well. I must confess that I don’t really use it very often though. I don’t have a reason to personally recommend it over a normal eraser, but it’s a fun tool.
It's funny how I wanted to sketch better and then this video uploads! Thanks Jazza! I know I've commented this before, but I just wanna let you know that you have helped me with art and if it weren't for you, my RUclips channel wouldn't be as good as it is today! Keep up the awesome uploads!
I love your videos. I know this one is old but you have a way of bringing positivity to the drawing world. I stopped drawing 15 years or so ago because 2 girls picked on me. I want to pick drawing back up. I stumbled upon you and glad i did
Also!!! Ball pens are so cool for sketching! Let's you draw freely,it goes smoothly on paper and is just really great overall to not feel like erasing all the time. You should try it
I’ve been drawing since I was five so about six years and every time I draw I try to learn a new way to make it better and I think it makes your artwork so much better and you can also get better faster so I think this would be a good tip for drawing like, when I started all I could draw was a stick figure with just two dots and a line for a smiley face but instead I added clothes and another line with the arms and the legs I added five French fries for fingers shoes, and hair, after I added hair and I have gone from that to something amazing that I love then I tried digital art I’m still pretty bad at it but like I do for paper art I try to do something different that I haven’t tried if you read to the end I really appreciate you Because this took a long time to write 😅
My mum told me I almost ate a pencil when I was one, then when I learned how to draw a freaking line (which is 4-5) I just took a bunch of crayons and scribbled ;-; now I am a art channel person...RUclipsr whatever (my drawings still suck)
I want to thank you. For some time I was afraid of drawing in my sketchbook because I didn't want to fill it with ugly sketches. Now if I make ugly thing, a mistake, I will be okay with it.
Okay, this video is actually pretty helpful. With every sketch I've been trying too hard and being a perfectionist. I've been thinking I need to sketch like when I was a teen again.. Go back to the beginning. Draw because I want to, and not to try to impress people. I've been looking at every single sketch as something others will see and judge (whether or not I even show them) and then throwing every single one away that I didn't like. For me personally, I think I need to get some more drawing sketch books (so I'm not worried about wasting paper), and to keep my work to myself for a while until I'm confident again. Thanks 2017 Jazza.
Dear Jazza, Ive followed your work for years now. But in this Video at the second Part "relax" you bring my whole problem to a point - and creates a solution within seconds. Because we all forget what art is all about: to have a great time and to improve pur skills. And we often lose this way and put a lot of pressure in our process. So, thank you. Thank you for the reminder. I smile because of your quotes. And the Truth within. It sends me right back to my sketchbook and that feels amazing :) You are blessed, man!
Here's a challenge for you! Bad frame rate challenge -Aim the camera at your paper (basically, it's like drawing with an old tablet but you are watching your hands draw the picture and you never look down at the paper) Set the camera's frame rate to a very very low one. For added, challenge set the exposure rate to the highest
Eligio Virtucio omy god were did lern to right? Edit: before people call me a hypocrite it was a joke ok? The guy I’m criticizing is 10, it’s ok if he writes something wrong. I did it as a joke. I’m sorry for this last part but now days everyone will kill you for saying something they disagree with
Thanks for this video, when I was trying to sketch a person I was having a really hard time and wasn't enjoying my time but then I used some of your tips and it really helped. Thanks for getting my passion back!
This is one of the best 'learn to art' kinda videos i have ever watched, It didn't get boring and before I knew it I had seen the whole video. Please keep making more content like this, because I really enjoyed this clean and crispy way of learning.
Everyone is saying I draw good but I myself think I draw terrible cuz I can't draw faces or figures I'm trying to improve my drawing skills and if I'm being honest You're the Inspiration cuz from my perspective you're one of the best artist on RUclips I've ever watched!
I'm sure this will get lost and no one will care, but... I was watching this video when I was falling asleep/listening to it asleep and I had a dream with jazza in it. There were like evil forces around us and the only way to stop them was by drawing certain things and he was trying to help me from those evil forces that were chasing me. In the end he helped me and let's just say he also had a very nice 6 pack 😉😂
I'm trying to figure out wether you're talking about the cartoon or human version of Jazza and I can only picture the human one with a half beaver face
Thank you Jazza! I really picked up something very useful when it comes time to just doodle with a pencil and paper. I see ideas stretch out more to level up without realizing leveling up is taking place. Thanks, again!
That white outline really made a difference! I never understood midtone papers, but now I'm inspired to go get one! I love sketching so I'm sure this will really help me take it to a new level. Thanks for giving such great advice, you really help out artists like me without formal teachers. Keep doing what you do
It works! My art isn't good, I'm just starting out but sometimes I just scribble and see something in it and draw say like a fish or a dog. Better than I would have been able to draw if I was told to draw a dog.

ElasticKitten13 omfg I'm a perfectionist too! Sometimes I end up with sooo many lines where the eraser didn't get it all because something isn't exactly the same that I just throw the paper away and start over haha

Thank you so much for this video. I have always struggled with the tense frustration of the less perfect drawing. This tutorial really has made my thinking less stressful when it comes to loosening my grip and relaxing my wrist. I really appreciate the help. I always worry about perfection too much. You are a great help.
DONT YOU JUST HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE WANT TO GO THROUGH YOUR SKETCH BOOK ?????! THEN THEY SECRETLY OPEN IT AND LAUGH AT UR DRAWINGS AAAA This happens to me everyday :(
lol first off since I suck at drawing circles so compared to me thats close enough to perfect. Second, I believe the Time is close enough, it still gets the shot of the circle
This video means a lot to me "cus it's what made drawing click for me and now I just got accepted into one of the biggest art schools in the world. Thanks Jazza
I struggled with that for a long time, my sketches looked really interesting but the final product often looked dull.... my solution was adding more detail. Because you often erase your sketch after lineart and colouring, you lose a lot of accidental detail from the messy sketch lines. I now add some more detail in my lineart and colouring and it really improved my art. I hope this might be a useful tip for you :) !
Things I draw, that I dont want people to see: -bloody corpses/knifes (when I am angry) - naked chars to practise anatomy - monsters or seductiv demon - sites filled with scribbles or ugly things I did when I didn't care how it looks - anime chars

I realized what I was doing wrong. I've been trying to make pretty pictures as well as basic sketches all in the same sketchbook. As a result, I started to become trapped in the sense that everything in that sketchbook must look pretty. I'm going to try having two sketchbooks. One for finished drawings and one for studying and concepts.
BLAKE RBLX no, that’s not true, you can know things and be good but not get paired that’s not a professional artist and it’s not a noob artist either!!!
BKO Music Although it was joke it’s still important pointing out the fact that it’s not true, helping prevent discouraging others. It’s like saying you can either be really bad or really good. It’s not a very good mindset and should be avoided. People can be in between and aren’t limited to being really bad and having to make a huge and sudden change to be better. Perfection is gradual, and the idea that you should become very good at something in one or just a few goes can be very damaging for your mental health if it doesn’t end up going that way. Jeez this is a long comment and I’ve been droning on for too long......................... :/
I’ve been following you since high-school (so about 7-8 years) and I can confidently say that YOU ARE THE BEST! 👏 Thank you for everything you’ve done.
I love watching your videos, especially design sessions! I really learn a lot from you, I want to be a professional illustrator as my career and love learning more about it. Thanks for making your videos!
I still come back to this video when I am doubting myself, huge encouragement boost and makes me want to draw instead of me being dissapointed in my drawings. Thanks jazza
I'm not very good at sketching and I wanna learn so bad😭 I keep looking for videos and tutorials but none of them seem to be working!! You're such an inspiration and one of your videos made me wanna push harder to learn
Stefy Powers when I started drawing/sketching, I didn’t resort to a tutorial or video, I just started to draw. I learnt more by myself than others. Happy sketching!
My figure drawing teacher had us draw the nude model without lifting the charcoal at all for each pose. We did gesture drawings that way. It was really hard to catch myself lifting my arm off the paper.
Great video. Helped to reinforce the idea of not being so self critical and not to worry about mistakes. Sometimes I forget why I am drawing in the first place when things look terrible. I forget that it is all about the learning process and slowly improving over time. Remembering to actually have fun is so important.
if you dont know what to draw: Stand up, turn around 3 times, and the first thing you catch your eyes on, draw that and then make it into a theme, for example, if my eyes land on a lamp, I would draw that, and then add butterflies or moths flying around it, so the the theme is bugs. I didn't know a electric eraser even existed
crystal aliem same
Ditto
Yeah
Me too
I have one and it works really well.
Luke25 This seems like a sneaky self promo
McConnel Hunters it totally is but it works +1 sub
Luke25 wow you always comment on these videos don't you?
Awkward Forever7 yea I love art :)
McConnel Hunters *??? I do not mean to do that.*
How I sketch:
*Step 1: procrastinate for 5 hours*
*Step 2: End up not drawing anything*

what?? i thought i created that technique. 😞
@@microlizard what? i did it first wdym 😞
Yeah u nailed it
I love your videos. I know this one is old but you have a way of bringing positivity to the drawing world. I stopped drawing 15 years or so ago because 2 girls picked on me. I want to pick drawing back up. I stumbled upon you and glad i did
Wow, I want to draw like Jazza! Only I might draw them a bit more...
Sketchier.
No please, just no..

🙂
All That JAZZ 😂😂
All That JAZZ would have been funnier if the grammar was correct :/
Also!!! Ball pens are so cool for sketching! Let's you draw freely,it goes smoothly on paper and is just really great overall to not feel like erasing all the time. You should try it
Yes, true true
O
If you do that, you can't fix mistakes tho
I use pen after sketching if it fits my dad drawing
@@mosstah that's the fun part bro
I just can’t get over how perfect his freehand circle is
I’ve been drawing since I was five so about six years and every time I draw I try to learn a new way to make it better and I think it makes your artwork so much better and you can also get better faster so I think this would be a good tip for drawing like, when I started all I could draw was a stick figure with just two dots and a line for a smiley face but instead I added clothes and another line with the arms and the legs I added five French fries for fingers shoes, and hair, after I added hair and I have gone from that to something amazing that I love then I tried digital art I’m still pretty bad at it but like I do for paper art I try to do something different that I haven’t tried if you read to the end I really appreciate you Because this took a long time to write 😅
Wow you are really the same as me i was drawing when i was 5 too and still drawing and improving now! I cant live without art, art is my life!
@@Yan_Haider omg! same! if you want to see how ive improved you can look on my channel lol
Thats really unbelievable, we are on the same art level but we draw in different styles What the...
Do you have discord? (if you want to chat with me)
My mum told me I almost ate a pencil when I was one, then when I learned how to draw a freaking line (which is 4-5) I just took a bunch of crayons and scribbled ;-; now I am a art channel person...RUclipsr whatever (my drawings still suck)

It sends me right back to my sketchbook and that feels amazing :)
You are blessed, man!
Here's a challenge for you!
Bad frame rate challenge
-Aim the camera at your paper (basically, it's like drawing with an old tablet but you are watching your hands draw the picture and you never look down at the paper)
Set the camera's frame rate to a very very low one. For added, challenge set the exposure rate to the highest

Thoughts of novice artist on resisting the eraser . . . sketch with a pen. Doing so has helped to break tons of my bad habits and hesitations.
Thanks for this video, when I was trying to sketch a person I was having a really hard time and wasn't enjoying my time but then I used some of your tips and it really helped. Thanks for getting my passion back!
Aaand now I have a midtone sketchbook and white pencils ordered off Amazon. Thanks Jazza... :p

The answer is in your name

You draw circles often when drawing, and the more you do something the better you get.
Even his scribble is good
D
it is not. Chicken scratches all the way
Everyone is saying I draw good but I myself think I draw terrible cuz I can't draw faces or figures I'm trying to improve my drawing skills and if I'm being honest You're the Inspiration cuz from my perspective you're one of the best artist on RUclips I've ever watched!
Rudolf the guy Fr dude same
Rudolf the guy Fr me too

I SUCK at drawing hair and eyes
And sometimes noses
You’ll get better, dw
I'm sure this will get lost and no one will care, but...
I was watching this video when I was falling asleep/listening to it asleep and I had a dream with jazza in it. There were like evil forces around us and the only way to stop them was by drawing certain things and he was trying to help me from those evil forces that were chasing me. In the end he helped me and let's just say he also had a very nice 6 pack 😉😂
Nikki Rose that's gr8 lol
Daiel Jazza x reader
Nikki Rose ooooh my gosh your probably never gonna forget that, huh??
I'm trying to figure out wether you're talking about the cartoon or human version of Jazza and I can only picture the human one with a half beaver face
Nikki Rose lol so cool
Thank you Jazza! I really picked up something very useful when it comes time to just doodle with a pencil and paper. I see ideas stretch out more to level up without realizing leveling up is taking place. Thanks, again!
That white outline really made a difference! I never understood midtone papers, but now I'm inspired to go get one! I love sketching so I'm sure this will really help me take it to a new level. Thanks for giving such great advice, you really help out artists like me without formal teachers. Keep doing what you do

ARE WE JUST GOING TO GLOSS OVER THE FACT THAT JAZZA JUST DREW AN ALMOST PERFECT CIRCLE
lol?
Circles arent hard its everything else.

I know. I can draw circles pretty well too.
Its just that he did it in one perfect motion and so it just was pleasing to watch.

Agreed
Me: I like the ones I get for free

Me: how do you make art look good
Jazzy: SCRIBBLE!
It works! My art isn't good, I'm just starting out but sometimes I just scribble and see something in it and draw say like a fish or a dog. Better than I would have been able to draw if I was told to draw a dog.

This was so helpful! I've been stuck as a perfectionist when it comes to sketching, and you helped me get past that phase. Hopefully in the future I can get myself a half-tone sketchbook or a white pencil and put these tips to good use!
ElasticKitten13 omfg I'm a perfectionist too! Sometimes I end up with sooo many lines where the eraser didn't get it all because something isn't exactly the same that I just throw the paper away and start over haha
uh huh
How I sketch:
1) come up with a good idea
2) hate the sketch
3) erases everything
4) ends up not drawing anything even though I stayed there for like 3 hours

Thank you so much for this video. I have always struggled with the tense frustration of the less perfect drawing. This tutorial really has made my thinking less stressful when it comes to loosening my grip and relaxing my wrist. I really appreciate the help. I always worry about perfection too much. First off, the circle ain't perfect. Second off, I believe it is in 4:25
lol first off since I suck at drawing circles so compared to me thats close enough to perfect. Second, I believe the Time is close enough, it still gets the shot of the circle

I actually invested in a half-tone sketchbook because of this video, and it was an amazing investment!

My sketches look better than my final drawings ..... Fml 😂😂😂😂😂
Hailey same
Hailey I feel your pain. When I outline and/or color it I totally mess it up
Lauren McMurtry mine is the opposite but wth digital art my sketches look better than my finished paintings.
Hailey IKR
I struggled with that for a long time, my sketches looked really interesting but the final product often looked dull.... my solution was adding more detail. Because you often erase your sketch after lineart and colouring, you lose a lot of accidental detail from the messy sketch lines. I now add some more detail in my lineart and colouring and it really improved my art. I hope this might be a useful tip for you :) !
Mum: Can I look through your sketchbook?
Me: *NO.*
Edit: There isn't anything in my sketchbook, it's just it's a private place 😂😂😂

{Parseltounge Hufflepuff} Mine is beyond weird fro normal humans
yeah mine is also pretty weird, monsters and stuff etc, and then there's this one naked anime character
Things I draw, that I dont want people to see:
-bloody corpses/knifes (when I am angry)
- naked chars to practise anatomy
- monsters or seductiv demon
- sites filled with scribbles or ugly things I did when I didn't care how it looks
- anime chars
Dude I just started sketching from imagination and it's been great. love it. To me this is where the fun begins.

I came back to this and 2 years later it’s such a great lesson! Love Jazza!
wow his sketches are better than my actual drawings

There’s a fine “line” betweeen a professional artist and a noob artist
Yes-
I'm the noob-
BLAKE RBLX no, that’s not true, you can know things and be good but not get paired that’s not a professional artist and it’s not a noob artist either!!!
Blue rays- it was a joke don’t take it seriously
Why did I think of Harry styles’s album lmao I have a problem 😂
BKO Music Although it was joke it’s still important pointing out the fact that it’s not true, helping prevent discouraging others. It’s like saying you can either be really bad or really good. It’s not a very good mindset and should be avoided. People can be in between and aren’t limited to being really bad and having to make a huge and sudden change to be better. Perfection is gradual, and the idea that you should become very good at something in one or just a few goes can be very damaging for your mental health if it doesn’t end up going that way. Jeez this is a long comment and I’ve been droning on for too long......................... :/
Why do his sketches look better than my finished pieces
Oh my god yes!
It's been 3 years for this video and I keep rewatching and laughing like never watched it. Love it!!!!!

Your challenge should you choose to except it:
You should draw something without lifting your pen/pencil
Alex Charlot so basicslly cursive drawing
*I like this idea. He could try making shadows by drawing lines closer/further away from each other, and lines alone would form a dimention.*
Alex Charlot that's called line contour and it's a really cool drawing exercise!
