my personal favourite is the ibanez tubescreamer ts9 or the marshall guvenor, all because of my guitar hero gary moore
my $35 knock off Klon is great - I can't tell the difference from the original (now $5k) model. Thanks for great content and great guitar sounds.
The dirty secret is that in an actual full band environment no else can tell the difference either. Only if you’re A/B-ing them in a studio environment.
The klon slipping in your grip at the end was terrifying to me and I've never even seen one in person.
Case is solid metal, and the insides are sealed with black epoxy, definitely a road worthy pedal.
I bought a Klon Centaur in the late 90s and treat it like a Faberge Egg, which is kind of stupid because the Centaur is built to handle some abuse. Frankly, the Chinese knock-off from Wish that I bought sounds nearly as good; the original Centaur does not sound $5000 better to me, put it that way. And the JHS Notaklon is a superb copy for about $200. My two cents.
No pedal should cost more than a few hundred dollars. It’s simply electrical components inside an enclosure. No magic.
With limited/discontinued components.
That’s the value based upon supply and demand for good and services .. money is only paper and ink, do you value it as such, no
you're not paying for components but also r&d.although i agree those used pedals are way too much
Sometimes they have exciting graphics on the case.
“It turns out the magic was inside of each and every one of us!” 😂
Quite the demonstration- these pedals seem to get into your very soul as you play, which brings out every bit of emotion and mojo from your heart, through the whole setup, then finally out the speaker and into the ears and hearts of the mesmerized audience- yes this these pedals will work true magic, and this was a treat 😂🎸
That's a pretty crazy chord sequence you do some good licks on there 👍
Great playing! Thanks!
Thank you for enlightening me to the combo of the Klon and the TS9. I got the exact same sound with my G&L S500, a JHS Notaklön and my TS9 I bought new sometime in the 90s😁🤘🏻
Not sure which is my favorite pedal, but the guitarist is awesome. Thanks Tyler
Nice video, Tyler! Fortunate to have all three of these petals, I also am a big fan of the Fuchs. Can we get a video talking about that amp?
I'm happy with obscure gain pedals - Frog in a Blender from Vintage Technology and also MXR Commande Preamp separately go into a high gain drive port of 2 different Marshall combos for 2 separate examples of guitar goodness..
Excellent video.
TS 9 is my favorite. I also like the TS9 with the Klon.
Billy Corgan using a $25 Klon clone kind of answers the "is it worth that price" question for me.
Really interesting video. Thanks for the comparison. Peace
I keep putting off ordering a Mosky Silver Horse, mainly because I have so many overdrives already, but that Klon sound is classic.
First - I love your channel and your energy - I get very excited every time you launch a new clip. PLUS - you give back to the community - bless you for that.
Second - Man, that scar on your head looks gnarly. What happened, exactly. I think you jokingly said it was a fight - but was that a joke?
Anyway - be well - you are a blessing to a lot of us.
i believe someone threw a glass beer bottle and his forehead ended up in the crossfire at a bar months ago.
HOLY CRAP - that sucks!

I own all of these and they really are the best drives on the market but the klon is definitely the greatest overdrive ever. It works with any amp ,guitar ,player ,etc the others it really matters who and what you’re playing.
I find it baffling that the most expensive pedals on the market are not the most complicated, or the most feature-dense, or the most well-made. It's a bunch of overdrive pedals (arguably the most simple kind of pedal) that people like the sound of but, for one reason or another, they're hard to access. They are so heavily copied, not just because they're popular, but because their circuits are so darn simple to emulate (they're literally just overdrives).
Like, the ONLY reason they're so expensive is because the demand outpaces the supply. That, and the placebo effect: people believe the "real deal" sounds better than a clone that has the exact same circuitry, when they likely wouldn't be able to tell the "real deal" apart from a clone if they did a blind listening test. And considering most people don't do blind listening tests, NO ONE is going to be able to tell that you're playing a clone, rather than the original. So please, save yourself a couple thousand dollars, and just get the knockoffs. Or better yet: get a different overdrive, one with a more unique tone. There are literally thousands to choose from. The fact that these three are so sought-after is ridiculous.
i couldn't wait a day, let alone 5 years.....wow...😮
5 years is insane. Mxr collaboration between analogman was a good idea.
I use a custom setting with the 'Sculpt' algorithm on the Eventide H9 Max as my current overdrive. In the past I've just used a Vox valve overdrive on the amp. I may get a dedicated overdrive pedal sometime though. I like to keep things to two or three pedals max in one song. I don't like to complicate things too much, sometimes I'll switch settings or alter something before a certain tune. But mainly I like simplicity and just have everything in the playing
You said people "hate it or love it" with the humbuckers. I thought "huh that sounds fine", then you played the single coils and man it sounded so much better. Very John Mayer and even a little Stevie. That was a great demonstration.
ur tele sound is godly good...and 3 pedal u have, heaven
The best setup up for a Klon is guitar-TS9-klon-amp
The Ibanez tubescreamer works a treat as sidechain effect on snares for more meat & potatoes too. ☮
After watching your Klon and Klon clone videos I got a Klon clone for myself and I love it! So thanks for the Klon clone info way back when. Re: these pedals, I have my TS9, I usually prefer a little more dirt and typically go for the Klon clone, but this is the first I've heard of the KOT! Love the sound! I'll probably never have one because waiting sucks, but when you had it plugged into the Marshall it sounded so good!
Mxr released a duke of tone that's half of the king of the tone and you still get the 3 different clipping options
I like how that Tube Screamer looks like it is made of marzipan instead of metal. 😂
🤣
The biggest problem with the Klon is that if I had one, it wouldn't matter how good it sounded because it would be locked in the gun safe and never used (I certainly wouldn't consider gigging with it).
“Oh yeah, I have a Klon… I should use it in a video again”
the tele and Strat sound awesome... nice intro btw !!! I'll go with the TS all the way is IMHO a chameleon pedal which can provide versatility to any rig... but the Klon and KOT are unique in their on sound !
No, they sound like single coils… because no guitar sounds different apart from humbucker vs single coil…
I sadly no longer have my original TS-9 and can’t pay the current prices of each. I am about 3 years from receiving my KOT. So, what I’ve done is arm my pedal board with a new Klondike, a prince of tone and a way huge conspiracy theory (all purchased at retail) to get the sounds I prefer. Great video
Been on waiting list for two years now. But I did buy the Duke of tone. Probably my favorite overdrive. I have king Edward 5150 , vai Gemini, the archer, octonought, ocd and Zakk's berserker.
I prefer by a wide margin the King of tone, but both sides set to OD
2nd place Tube screamer
Distant 3rd place for the Centaur.
Agree - we seem to be the outliers lol
I had the Tube screamer in the 80s. I sold it long ago to a buddy and bought a better OD pedal. The Boss SD-1
Come on man subjektiv..
Your a really good guutar player.
Tyler did you just throw PRS pedals under bus?
Pedals work only as well as they interact with a specific amp. Even amp settings affect how a pedal sounds. When I play my bassman in the sweet spot ( Which is quite loud.approx. 100db) my Boss SD-1 sounds fantastic with it. As soon as I turn down the amp the sound loses all it’s “personality” Adjusting the pedal makes little difference I might add.
100 db is going take it’s toll on your hearing. Hope you’re doing it safely!
Tyler has gotta do an updated guitar/pedal/amp collection vid
Hi tyler, please do a Joyo KOK vs Analogman KOT.
In a multi effects pedal, you usually can find a few tones that make you happy without the hype and Extra $$$
I have the Ibanez TS9
Because there's always one guy who points out in virtually every TS-9 video, that SRV started with the 808, then the TS-9 when it was introduced and finally, the TS-10 when it came out. Someone should. I am that someone...
I'm him... LOL!
30 dollar klone sounds as good as any of them.Depends on who is using it.That would be me.❤
This only strengthens my belief that the best distortion emanates from amplifiers. While an overdrive can be employed to refine the overall sound or provide additional gain, it shouldn't serve as the primary source of distortion.
The audio in these clips doesn't resonate well with me; however, a distorting quality amplifier paired with an affordable (basically any) overdrive can produce better results.
I have none of these pedals. But what I do have is Line 6 digital interpretations of these pedals. And for some reason I have never been able to get the Klon to work for me.
Analog man and Klon sound great together. (I noticed that the Ibanez and the Strat had a hum…single coil I guess - do you use a noise gate?)
What are your thoughts on the klon copy on the line 6 podgo known as the Minotaur?
Can you do a jam session with us like a live stream
The coolest sounding tone for me was with all three pedals turned on.
SRV used the often maligned TS10 also.
Give me that tube screamer and the Shwartzinator with a big muff pedal and I'm golden
Does anyone know what’s the telecaster demonstrating the Analog man? Nice logo on the head
Your scar is bad-ass, man! Rock it! :)
hey man, showing to is important. if someone had actually showed their klon back in the day, I wouldn't have thought the website was a scam and ordered one lmao.
My clones are in the same order. TS>KOT->Klone
Although my TS is an 808, it still does the Screamer thing. Love the KOT. I get the hype. It's not really hype. It's freekin awesome. I got my Klone from Wish just a couple weeks before Tyler did his shootout. I bought it due to all the klontent and kept it after the shootout. Found a source for the original style enclosure and pcb. Not cheap, but I think I'm going to build myself a higher quality Klone that takes up more board space, but will look really cool and therefore make me look cooler than I already am and it won't matter how good I am, I can suck, but I will sound great sucking and look coolaf doing it. 😊
What's he doing when he flicks the fretboard at 9:37
?
Amazing lickage!! Sadly the only thing in my price range would be the cables. 🤣
Never ran the Klon with any gain, must use above 2 o’clock if you have an original magic diode!
What about the Nobels ODR-1 original 90's edition? 12 years ago my GF bought me one used for $40, now I see them going for over 2 grand! Seems like the list should be expanded to the top 4.
I love my Nobels ODR-1!
I prefer the Snouse Black Box to the Analogman. More features (especially in the Stage Pro Mod) and you can get them easily for under $200. With the dip switches you get a lot more versatility, plus it's much smaller and better looking than the 90s aesthetic of the King of Tone. That waitlist is just ridiculous.
maybe I should dust off my TS9 and take it off my bookcase? But I like the TS808 so much more...
I’m more into the KoT, which I’m still waiting for. 😂. I’ve built several clones, but I still need an original and I ain’t paying $1000 for it.
How many times is this ground going to be gone over?
Wonder what he thinks of multieffects pedals. My rp7 valve sounds just as good as any single pedal it imitates to me.
You missed the pedal that JHS showed could do all of these, Digitech Bad Monkey. 😂
My drive section: Hizumitas fuzz, Formula B Super Plexi (with a boost), and an MXR Sugar Drive, probably the best Klone that sounds good to my ears, but doesn’t exactly sound like a Klon… and that’s ok my me. (I have never liked Tube Screamers, that might make me weird.)
On the pedal being beat up: I have an sm58 that looks like it was used as a hammer and that is the hottest damn mic, I think it’s because it’s been beat to hell.
Just checked my spot... still 2.5 years to go...
I like the klon- but tbh, I thought that "room sound" was better- just my two cents.
Man that scar is crazy.
Analogman sounds good riding the horsey.
Quite some lineup of pedals there! Not a single one worth the crazy price tag they carry today 🙂 Oh, and yes, I can afford the Klon price tag, thats not the issue. I have an OD pedal that changed my world, it cost $60. I would never use any other pedal. A two channel OD pedal that I use to fatten my tone and then kick in channel 2 for face melting OD! I have a green pedal that I have A/B against the original green pedal. With a little tweaking, you cannot tell the difference. $25 my green pedal! Circuitry is not that difficult to copy and, no, a virgin maiden did not handwire the original Klow with Unicorn shit solder! 🙂
Am I crazy, or are you getting a tonne of 60 cycle hum at 3:30?
Plug a Rockman Distortion Generator into another Rockman Distortion Generator.
I'm curious to know how you would get Dimebag's tone :v xD
Can anyone tell me why people would prefer the sound of gain pedals rather than a solid tube amp? Other than ease of portability of course
Tube gain sounds best to me but can be too loud. That's why EVH had a block of polystyrene in front of his Marshall "Grenade".
I'm sure you can get these same tones out of a Crate amp. If you are Tyler
The SilverSky... sub pare, so glad I didn't one when they were discounted.... they just sound lifeless.
you blue strat is ...wow...
Thx, this vid will help me getting my 100k$ guitar pedal collection to work 😂
Let's see if this can channel any of Mayer's mojo...
FUCHS
😮
Haha great video.
I thought they used the TS10.
Am I wrong?
Learn skillet monster pls
tone is in the fingers :)))))))))
Bruh he didn’t even mention fuzz faces that go for 20k
The PRS Silversky pickups DO NOT work well with the KLON. They clash in a raspy way. The Fender Strat sounded by far the best, which makes sense. Low to medium output pickups with high gain amps always sound better to my ears. Guitars with 50's wiring or modern wiring with treble bleed curcuits, that you can dial the volume back on. Gives you all that range to find the sweet spots in. Just goes to show, plug'n a bunch of expensive gear in doesn't guarantee "jack squat". You gotta have at least a remote clue of what works with what, and that a muddy oversaturated mess is waiting for many a guitar villain.
A lot of the shit I do is taken as me being boastful, but I’m not. I think when people who aren’t doing as well see you with shit they don’t have or doing shit they’re not equipped to do, they get jealous and want to bring you down or hurt you. Maybe that’s where that bottle came from??? IDK lol. Every now and again I have to remind people I’m not as “affluent” as they tend to think I am. My VANS are actually from autumn 2016. Whatever. Keep doing cool shit!
You certainly talk lots of shit 😉🤣
Hi there,we love your music and we would like to know if you wanna try our guitar strings or not..? we could send your some sample?!and our brand name is Alice strings from china since 1999. pls let us know how u feel about this.
I have one of those green pedals I can sell you for a few thousand… heheheh
Through macbook air speakers, they pretty much all sound the same. There's only so many ways you can square off a wave.
@11:26 is my favorite...creamy
I’ve been gone for awhile , what happen to your forehead
thank god for aliexpress and the waiting list and absurd prices don't matter anything.
Great sounds. But a sound can never be that good for that much money!
Or you could just get a fractal fm3
I’ll never understand why the Klon is so expensive, I guess there is a sucker born every minute.😂😂😂
It's just tone chasing man, for some people it's addictive; though I definitely wouldn't invest this much in a single piece of gear.
It's kind of like John Mayer fans, I really just don't get it, but to each their own🤷🏻♂️
@@Kaz999998 In a world where 5000 $ wouldnt leave a dent in my bank account I would definitely buy one. But this aint it, so ill satisfy myself by watchong tyler's Klontent!
They're expensive bc people are willing to pay a lot for it. Sounds like a stupid reason, but that's how it is xd
All those quick slides up why not just do a quick bend up lol
Yes I noticed also. Pretty wide scar on your forehead. What happened?
Just joking they were all played on a pod go
