      That's why I love the Chili Peppers. They're all like that. John Frusciante is a virtuoso, but he allows plenty of room for Flea to shine through. Many bands you can't even hear the bass. Flea, John, and Chad are all world-class, but they have such phenomenal chemistry.

    In a difficult childhood, I was 5 or 6 years old when I watched the "Under the Bridge" music video on MTV. Without knowing any English, I could understand the essence of the song-the search for a better place, far from what it meant to be where I was. I watched the video and wanted to be like Anthony, running with long hair, escaping his monsters. Today, at 37 years old, overcoming addictions, this song has become my daily mantra. Thank you, RHCP, for creating this masterpiece.

      I think it‘s key to the Chili‘s success. Kiedis is not a proper singer - some may say he‘s a terrible singer but he has that SOMETHING in hid delivery that connects - and with ‚Under the bridge‘ that pretty much made them superstars. There are two Hendrix outtakes from the ‚Blood Sugar‘ album and Kiedis totally nails Jimi‘s vocals where most ‚proper‘ singers just sound off and forced when trying to cover Hendrix.

    To some of the comments out there: I'm thinking he hasn't heard the original version in years. Not like, We're all used to. Those drum parts are really burnt in our minds, wether we can play them, or, not. Especially after hearing them, tons of times, since 1991.

    • @johndoh5182
      @johndoh5182 8 месяцев назад +20

      I'm thinking every time he gets on the stage he's playing however he feels like playing, knowing it's his job to keep time, and provide his flair while not getting in the way of others.
      He's a great drummer and this stuff just flows out of him and I can see that whenever he performs.
      So the real question is has he ever played it like he did when recording the song since then? I certainly don't think he tries to or even cares to try. I think he wants to maintain the feel of the original recording and that's it, so I think the best way to say it, maintain the feel, but also play how you feel at the moment. To me that's how it seems he plays and it's always great because he's a great drummer with natural feel.

      Even Daft Punk was like "Why isnt our music as awesome as it could be..."...then they went and hired people like Niles Rodgers (one of the goats of disco funk rhythm guitar).

      @tranullius6087As you said - to each his own. I don't think there's right or wrong choice. I just fell in love with the band from the very 1st listen, so i consider myself a huge fan, started listening to them ~ at an age of 10, and i'm 31 now, so yes, technically their 80s stuff is not something i heard at the time it came out. But that said my favorite album is BSSM, which, still came out in 1991 before i was born :) i'm definitely NOT someone who "judges" RHCP fans if they're enjoying mostly more recent albums - i think there are amazing songs in all of their releases, and i am also happy i got to see them perform live and they always play songs from different eras in each of their shows - which to me says that they themselves are proud of everything they put out there, not only some specific albums/songs

    This goes to show how difficult it is being a high performing musician, just like a sports man. It's really hard to be in top performance shape consistently over the years, especially with instruments that require some degree of physical strength such as drums. Much respect for Chad Smith and all the oldschool drummers that are still pushing their boundaries.
